Would you believe Genie Francis was asked to star in the role Julia Duffy played? She refused, waiting for her mini-series "BARE ESSENCE" to become a weekly series. It did- and lasted about as long as "WIZARDS AND WARRIORS" did.
Warner Archive has a facebook page. Someone has asked for this series to be released through their "on demand" service. If you'd like a real release of the series, comment on their page! This is a possibility!
Ah, so THAT was the name of that series. I remember this show, but for the life of me, I couldn't remember the name of it. It was only after I read the article about Jeff Conway, where it mentioned the name of the show, that I finally had a lead. Your clip confirmed it. Thanks for posting this!
I have been trying to remember the name of this show for years, and today I finally tried to do a search with words like Medieval, comedy, 80's CBS and BAM turns out I was not the only one looking for it, but could not remember the name. Now I know, I have to see an episode or 2.
Thanks so much for posting this video. I LOVED this show (albeit, for a very short time) when it was in first-run when I was a kid. I never remembered the name, so I've spent the last 27 years wondering if I imagined it. Nobody ever knew what the hell I was talking about. Thanks for independently confirming my sanity, more or less.
@sherpa285 Your comment could have been MY comment! I remember loving this as a kid, but couldn't remember the name, and no one else had any idea of what I was talking about. I remember it being hysterically funny, especially Julia Duffy as the vain and spoiled princess.
Wow, I have not seen this since it originally aired. I recall them fighting an "invisible" dragon that we, as the viewer, never actually saw...because it was invisible, lol. Classic.
It's funny. I identify Jeff Conaway so strongly with the struggling actor character on Taxi, when I see clips like that I can't help but feel like I'm still looking at Bobby Wheeler on yet another one of his short-lived acting stints.
Man anonther show I was watching that just suddenly dissappeared from TV. I remeber this when the used to show movies like Clash of the Titans, Conan the Barbarian, The Beast Master, and The Sword and the Sorcerer during the Friday night movies. I want to be a kid in the 80's again.
I don't think this is related to the games, since the first game came out in 1987. And I checked out some sites on the web & found no mention of Kuros (the main character in the game) in this show. I know Kuros & his enemy Malkil were both in The Power Team cartoon that was based on Acclaim video game characters.
I can't stop laughing. I love the hell out of this cheesy show! There's a closet in my brain crammed with forgotten 80's shows. No wonder I liked stuff like Xenna & Hercules. It really all goes back to childhood. (No wonder I liked Jeff Conway on Taxi!
Duncan Regehr played the best character on the show, Clive Revill's costume reminds me of Tom Baker era Time Lord outfits from Doctor Who, Thank you for uploading this intro.
@nuwavevidspud I can totally see that with the Timelord outfit. I'm not sure but I THINK I heard or read somewhere that they bought props from the BBC for the show it might have been an actual one from "Doctor Who". :)
I guess you forgot about Covington Cross and Roar, two medieval series made by limeys. Both shows were failures, regardless of your "royal tradition".
Case in point: "Gemini Man." a.k.a. "Riding with Death."
Another example: "After M*A*S*H."
But, perhaps one of the most egregious of all, "Tequila and Bonetti," which was a bit of a "Turner and Hooch" ripoff about three years too late. But, at least it lasted about 11 episodes, so maybe it isn't so egregious after all.
WOW! I don't really remember this series other than my baby sitter (who I had the biggest crush) on used to watch it... I could not remember the name of it, just that the opening used the typical 80s freeze frame for each of the series leads that transitioned into a comic book like graphic. I had no idea Jeff Conway was in this and even Clive Revill who voiced the holographic emperor in The Empire Strikes Back. Thx for this... great memories.
Great show, this was funny as s***, I loved how the bad guys had that leather outfit and it used to make those creaking farting type noises anytime he moved LOL
Didn't Brian Blessed guest star in an ep? I remember that the shot him with a cannon and when the smoke cleared he was just sitting there holding the cannonball, laughing. Then he threw the ball back over his shoulder and knocked out one of his men.
I loved this show. I was so upset when they cancelled it.
LOL Wow! Been a long long time since iv'e seen this. I remember recording the Main Title on cassette tape and endlessly playing it. Great main title score!
man, i was like 7 or 8 when this show was on, i vaguely remember it. I always wondered the name of it. I remember snakes coming out of a table biting the loser of arm wrestling...wow....what the 8 year old brain will remember..........
Holy crapola, I thought I was going crazy. I distinctly remember this show, especially the ep where they go into a haunted castle and get stuck in there after the princess kills a mosquito. Well, I'm glad I'm not insane. Or at least, not in this department.
Wow! What an overpowering memory it is to watch this again! Just a few strains of the music and I can remember college professors and friends from what seems an eternity ago.
I don't remember much of the stories in the series but one piece of dialogue sticks in my memory: I think it's the black prince making some kind of a wager with the wizard and he says, in all drama: "I want...your HAT."
The two of them get drunk to celebrate the death of the empty-headed blonde...and the princess. They make the wager over a game of Bahkin, "for one million Kolnas...and that silly hat". Even better was after they had played the game, and Blackpool cheated, Vector tells him "I think I ought to tell you, I don't wear a hat.", leaving Blackpool and the audience wondering just what that everchanging headgear was.
Holy Cr*p!!!! This was my favorite show when I was a very little kid. People didn't believe me it existed!!! Once I got grounded and couldn't watch it because I ran on stage during my sisters ballet recital. Freakin' awesome dude! This is going on my favorites

Such a series of total tripe affirms an axiom of TV:
Americans cannot do medieval drama; leave that to Brits. British TV cannot do westerns; leave that to Yanks.
Seriously, the US hasn't got any royal tradition. So US actors cannot feel and smell the medieval world like British ones can.
