From the mid 50s to 1978 Bobby played sax on Lynyrd Skynyrd's album Second Helping. (Great work on Call me the Breeze). He played on Warren Zevon's albums (Classic sax on Lawyers Guns and Money, Excited Boy etc). Recorded with Joe Crocker, Buddy Holly, John Lennon, Elton John, Marvin Gay, Humble Pie, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Dr. John, Chuck Berry, BB King, The Faces and even Elvis (Return to sender). The guy must have been good
Bobby starteed to play wiith the Stones in the "Live with me" song on the Let it bleed album in 69. He made a lot of tours with the Stones during the 70's but he was on dope and a good buddy for Keith. Mick though he was a bad influence for Keith and tried to ban Bobby from the Stones tours.
@shimokita2 In Keiths Book life he explains why Bobby was out of the band for ten years: Everyone was at a band meeting apart from Bobby, so Keith was sent to find him, he went up to his Hotel Room, found Bobby in a bath of Bollinger Champagne with a cigar and a french Chick, Keith told he had to come to the meeting Bobby relpied "Fuck off" and that was that.
@fishonalilo05 - I have the book but I must have missed that part. I remember Keith saying he had to sneak him back into the band and because Keys played so well it was accepted by Jaggar, who Keith says never spoke to Bobby once for the rest of that tour they were on. Was that Steel Wheels?
Someone once called Bobby Keys...King Curtis with MASS APPEAL...
I quite agree. I hear the influence... He has this syrupy sound .... King Curtis was just a little too much like King Curtis ...too esoteric to be accepted by the masses...Bobby has it down...Actually "BItch" was the best thing he ever did !!!
Ask him about the night Jimmy Miller and Keith and ...ukhmmmm...the two Corsican brothers...and the three condums... HA! Talk about "FIRSTS" tell em about Bobby!
Wow, Wow and Wow, So, you taught him RC flying without knowing he is a legend? that is one for the books, well thank you very very much, we are all in awe of Bobby's prowess with music, his history, the bands he has been in, the stars he has worked with, his childish face, the fact that he shows no sequelae of the life of a rock star, and of course we all love the fact that he is alive and well, Bobby, we love you, Stones, Mad Dogs, etc.étera, etcétera etcétera hugs my man, Bless you
Actually if you listen to "Bitch"...the guitar and the SAX are "weaving" in and out...as if it was another guitar...but it ISN"T! Bobby is the King Curtis of Mass Appeal...
Bobby Keyes is a beacon of awesomeness.

The guy is keiths best friend and was born on the same day Keith was. Bobby looks like a fat version of Bill Clinton or something.
