Mariah basically took Cherrelle's entire song and sang over it, they could have at least got their own band and remade the music instead of ripping Cherrelle bone dry!!! Seriously!

They just had her sing over the original Cherrelle instrumental. I remember hearing cherrelle's version years ago and liking the song back then. cherrelle has fewer options with her voice but her version is nice. Mariah turns on her silky voice (love her voice singing "Boy I told you twice..."...AWESOME)

Hmm... I admit I foolishly posted before learning that Palmer's own version was a cover of Cherelle. And unlike his version, Mariah's sounds alot like Cherelle's, which I guess was a style back in the mid-80s, like Chaka's song. But Mariah's one of the best pop singers of the rock/synth pop ever talent-wise, so I can't agree with you about Cherelle's being. But it clearly is a cover very loyal to the original, if that's what you mean by stealing.
