Most of the sights are within walking distance around the centre of the city. Try & get a Vienna Card which gives you free travel on all public transport & cheaper entry fees into museums. Check out Wein dotinfo for more info on the sights.

Me too! 7 weeks there was great, mainly because of my wifes family over there. I certainly don't miss the smoking in shops & resturants now I'm back in Australia. The food is so yummy in Austria but all those smokers spoil the eating experience.

We had our fill of the smoke while sitting in the airport cafe. That was probably the worst of it for us. (We were usually asked if we wanted smoking or non.) We weren't there for very long, but I'd love to take an extended trip sometime. More Vienna, I say!

Was in Vienna 2 years ago and it was my first time in Europe and I must say it was by far the best place I went to out of the 8 countries I visited. The food, scenery and architecture are first class as are the people who live there. Be proud Austria you have a great country and one of the greatest cities in the world imo.

Careful you don't pick up the Viennese dialect otherwise Germans will have trouble understanding you.

Similar to Bavarian German so yes its softer but with a lot local slang. You can hear an extreme example if you search Mundl here on YouTube. I am sure where you study will teach high German.

of course, in some districts there are the "proleten" which talk a lil bit different, but mainly we all speak a beautiful german (though i dont tihnk german is beautiful x.X)

I am from Australia where we all speak a beautiful English. Austrian German definitely sounds nicer (less harsh) than Germans German.

i was every day on the danube tower back in the summer 2007. i'm very happy to live just 4 miles away from vienna so it's easy to go there by bike and see vienna in it's whole and beautiful being :D
