The devil is losing and at the end will be judged for all the crimes. Live and act in the freedom of GOD (praying in a right form, following the INSTRUCTIONS in the Bible - keeping the 10 commandments - including keeping the Saturday as the 7th day etc.) instead of in the prison and deception of devil. Through Jesus Christ everybody can do a change for the better.
basically the repubs and conservatives are saying the same thing to the 46 million uninsured americans. "If you cant afford health insurance then you should die"
no one dies for lack of health insurance. Show us where some one died from lack of insurance. If you are over 62 and a half you get put on medicare and if you are younger and fall below a income level then you dont pay. Show us otherwise.
Typically fair and balanced reporting from Fox LOL
I live in the UK where we have had "socialised medicine" for 60 years.
Yes Mr Goldburg, every time I visit the doctor with a cold, or a sore toe, he thrusts a packet of strychnine tablets into my hand and implores me to end it all. LMAO
The right wing has pulled the discussion so far off to the side with stuff like this and death panels that I'm afraid that even THEY can't bring it back on track now.
We have lost our chance to help the 195,000 vets sleeping on the streets every night.
We lost our chance to keep our fellow Americans free from pain.
The republicans can't even offer their own plan now that the American people are so stirred up that they will shoot down any new idea at this point......
This demonstrates that FOX is not news. Your life, your choices is a pamplet that educates vets on end of life choices, such as directives, living wills, etc. This is scare tactics gone crazy. Death panels are bullshit, batshit cracy.
OMG... the "book" guides you through writing a living will. Do a google search. You can download it for free. What is wrong with these people? How can they get away with propelling this paranoia?
As a combat service-connected disabled veteran possessing personal experience with several VA hospitals around the country, the VA sucks. Any idiot that honestly hopes for socialized health care deserves what he/she gets. Why don't you all go serve several years and see firsthand the health care while in the military, go into combat and get injured, afterwards register with the VA, then through personal experience with socialized health care come here and comment.
I served in the 82nd Airborne during Vietnam. I've had nothing but a good experience with the VA, as have all the vets I talk to at the facilities. It's not perfect, but better than I ever had from private systems. Sorry you're not with them anymore; I hope you've had better treatment where you are now.
The experience i've had with military healthcare was outstanding. I'm a combat vet also, by the way, so no need to to go off with the whole "I'm a VET, you HIPPIE!" rant. But, what the anti-reform crowd does not realize is that no one has even proposed socialized health care. What IS proposed was a government INSURANCE OPTION. Say it wit me na O-P-T-I-O-N. I'm gonna translate to Fox News english for ya. "Is the proposed Government option exactly what this country needs right now?"
The VA pamphlet isn't a "death booklet". It's a guide to help vets prepare a living will. It poses questions that adults need to make decisions - for themselves and their families.
Yes, I've read it. There is NOTHING in it that suggests vets commit suicide, or that their life is not worth living. It treats vets like adults, with intelligence.
The people who are willing to let those who can't afford health care DIE. (unless of course some richer person feels like helping them) are comparing the other sides pamphlet to eugenics.
This is a very straightforward pamphlet that provides the reader witg choices that he/she would be unalbe to do when so severely sick or damaged that he/se can't communicate. It doesn't force anyone to anything, it just provides the consize and honest information that one would need to make such a choice. Republicans use to claim that they value grown people's right choose very highly, but this one of the many exceptions they make to get cheapshots at the dems, I suppose.
The nerve of those Liberals and their socialized medicine! The only correct role for government is to kill people who somehow are living on land that has our oil underneath it!
And don't be fooled by those crafty Liberals! The phrase "promote the general welfare" in the Preamble to the Constitution just means the welfare of rich people or weapons makers!
the numbers for government-paid healthcare do not add up unless you get old people to die earlier than they would with life-sustaining care. if you support single-payer YOU BETTER HOPE THERE ARE DEATH PANELS. single-payer will not work any other way. look at Massachussets. they have single-payer without death panels. look at their numbers! in healthcare old people are where the money is. with single-payer THEY HAVE TO DIE EARLY, especially with the abortion fiasco that has curbed young payers
Please !! This should not even be a discussion. Gov't has no place in medical field. It's their provisions that keep costs up. The gov't can't force you to buy something you don't want to buy. It has to be unconstitutional, and believe it is. They might not care about their oath, but I happen to !! this ain't rep or dem it's about gov't doing wrong. click my username and watch my video Washinton your fired or Wake up video. ENJOY and God bless America !!
OK, lets suppose you are stupid enough to trust either of the last two administrations with your health care. Do you know you can trust future administrations with your health care? Just like we trusted Obama to end the war and reverse the patriot act. I wouldn't let any of our politicians fix me a drink, let alone let them be in charge of my health care.
I challenge all you Fox Heads out there to do some research and find out how much money the top execs with FAUX news have tied up in the insurance industry and in stocks relating to health-care, you will be surprised when you go to Yahoo financial and do some research and find out for yourself, why Fox news keeps spreading lies about the Obama admins health-care reform plans
Why don't you research how much yearly profit the insurance industry is going to gain from the roughly 45 million (low estimate, 125 million high estimate) new health insurance policies mandated by Obama's health care game plan? While you're at it, research what in the current plan truly limits the amounts charged for those insurance policies.
yeah, yeah, and soon.. soon. there will be death panels here, just just like in Canadia and and France .. and and the .. the rest of the GAWD DAMNED WORLD .. you know.. the ones that offer medical care to ALL OF ITS CITIZENS??
c'mon people stop buying into the bull shit that comes out of fox news .. please!
Socializing medicine has the effect of giving the government the financial incentive to encourage people to kill themselves before they burden the system.
With fully privatized healthcare and private health insurance, YOU get to decide when to give up.
The idea that the government would give dying people a book asking them to consider giving up and dying is really sick.
It is a logical consequence of collectivist thinking.
You have no idea what you're talking about. There is no compulsion to kill oneself or advice to do such a thing. There is simply the advice about the way in which you will live if your health continues as it is. There is no compulsion, or pressure to hurt oneself. It is simply health advice.
You did suggest that giving advice about the quality of life would be tantamount to endorsing government-sanctioned murder. And again, what is the problem with simply informing people that their quality of life may diminish given the progression of an illness?
The problem is that there is a conflict of interest.
When a Judge is set to try a case in which his wife is the defendant, judicial ethics tell him he must recuse himself. Similarly, when the government stands to benefit from a patient refusing care, there is a conflict of interest in giving that person a book that suggest that suicide is one option.
THere is no conflict of interest. And interestingly, these regulations were in place during the George W. Bush administration and not one Republican EVER raised a stink. To suggest the government is telling people they can commit suicide is ridiculous. They are telling people about their future health prospects.
That's fine, but it doesn't negate the wrongheadedness of your statements about health care. If you're smart enough not to vote for W, you should be smart enough to realize the government is not advising its own citizens to commit suicide.
freesk8 --- What the fuck????? Didn't you read ANY of the earlier posts???? The word "suicide" is NOT mentioned in the damn pamphlet. NOT ONCE! NEVER! NO< NO NO<NO<NO<NO Please read the pamphlet BEFORE you make uneducated, asinine and ignorant remarks about something which you have not read. Where is the word "suicide"????? What page???? WHAT Section???? Prove it to me! Show me!
You mean like when insurance companies have a conflict when THEY refuse to give a person life saving treatment after collecting thousands of $ from their costumers because the insurance company has determined that the condition is pre-existing.
Ins cos need more competition so they can get away with less. Now, they are in bed with regulators. Giving the govt more power just makes them more in bed with ins cos.
Monopoly is even worse, and that is what you have with single payer. Then there would be no place to turn, no alternative at all. Things would be even worse.
A man with no fire insurance calls the ins co to buy some. His house is currently on fire. The ins co refuses to sell ins to him. Pre-existing condition. (Fire.)
it's all true. Obama is coming to kill you all!... run hide! get a gun. fire into the bushes behind your house! Obama could be hiding there. barricade yourself in your basement. But stay tuned to fox.
What is wrong with all of these people? Creating a controversy, where none exists. The pamplet is poorly written, granted, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with having end of life discussions. In fact, if you've never had those conversations with your loved ones, then you're frankly an idiot. No matter which side you take, none of us want to be Terry Schiavo having others make our own decisions. Enough head in the sand mentality. And enough fearmongering of living wills. Grow up.
You are obviously lying. During my first tour, when I had shrapnell in my back, and was sitting in the hall at Walter Reed after giving blood, I had to walk my own blood sample up to the lab. You libs will lie about anything. Your lies will catch up to you.
its insane how normal end of life help can be twisted by sick fucks who only want to scare people. not EVERY old person has family they can talk to when they realize they need to plan ahead and NOT every old person has HEALTHCARE. thats why its in the bill!
Life isn't an hospital. You guys are so concerned about creating a superstate that you forgot what being men and taking care of yourselves is about. Move home to momma and let the men take care of them selves. You weak excuses for men.
oh youre a man? you wrote your own will on bear skin did you? no you had or will have help. people who know what there doing. yknow like a LAWYER or a counselor. not everyone can afford it because old ppl get SICK more often and insurance companies HATE paying for shit. And to this day insurance companies DONT pay for it because its considered elective. So sell your bullshit somewhere else.
And Conservative commentators are calling them out for it. There the one's quietly now trying to pull the reigns back on the rabid Right as they try to exploit Obama's inarticulateness.
They'll come to the conclusion the cooler heads in the Republican Party are at. That the mountain of MORE generous Medicare and VA are NOT the mountains they want to die on. It is completely opposed to their core.
Listen with caution to the right-wing and know their history along with their rhetoric.
Anyone who disagrees with you ande your cult of personality furher is regarded as a nut. Freedom of speech apparently is only acceptable if it is coming from secular, weaklings who do not have the nads to take care of themselves.
No one should take progressive support for the VA or Medicare/Medicaid as endorsements of those system's current state, though. Before the misinformed hit the town halls, historically the Democrats have been the ones turned to for support of Medicare and the VA.
The Cons at their core still despise Medicare. In '03 they had to have their arms severley twisted to even pass Bush's legis. Now they rule the Repub. Party, and to derail Obama, mock support a system they want reduced heavily.
The fact still remains you have to be actively looking for "hurry up and die" or "death panels" in this booklet. You will find no hint of it or anything similar.
It is uncomfortable to talk about death, and if you're like the Cons and too immature to talk about it, than you may read anything into it.
As usual the progressives are the party of adults and the Cons are again stuck at the kids table scribbling "your with us or against us" on it with their crayons.
People should get end of life counseling before they reach the end of their life whether it be deciding if they want to be a vegetable hooked up to machines or simply having an updated will/selected power of attorney. People don't think about death and they end up with messes like Madeline Ledger's omission in Heath's will or uncertain guardianship of Michael Jackson's children/estate.
If "socialized medicine" leads to deciding certain people should be "culled from the tribe," then wouldn't that be happening now in the other 32 developed nations that currently have universal health care?
The truth is, this ISN'T happening in any of those nations! Fox News is spreading baseless, fear-mongering lies!
I hate that Liberal Media! I love Fox News! They even won a court case about their news!
Some Liberal sued Fox after they suppressed a report about bovine growth hormones! Fox went to court and won a ruling on Feb 14, 2003 stating that a program they
called "News" could be loaded with known lies! Google it!
Now Fox can take a story filled with known lies and broadcast it as "News"! What a win for Big Business & Republicans!
Why don't any of the conservatives who post on these videos actually present any compelling arguments for their point of view? They just end up making all conservatives look worse as a result.
conservatives having an compelling argument? what do you think this is the 50s? oh wait -- they had mccarthyism. um. ok let me think on this one. speak softly and carry a big stick? i think that works as the last conservative argument that was compelling.
why the fuck are we talking about this speculative bullshit. cable 24-hour news networks are just becoming 24 hours of micromanagement motherfuckery about baseless stories.
because if liberals death panel your grandmother and make her get an abortion instead of a hip replacement and get arabs to pitch tents in your backyard and steel your freedoms with one of those knives they all carry and your grandchild is an anchor baby and un-white people want to speak mexican THEN you will be sorry! Palin/Bachmann 2012! helicopters for everyone!
i read the Death Book, aka Your Life Your Choices. it's fairly uncomfortable to read, since i don't like imagining myself in a coma, but it takes a conscious effort to see Nazis there. there's NOTHING in it about killing yourself if you're in a wheelchair. it asks you to think about what you would like to happen if you were in a situation where you couldn't make your own medical decisions (say you had severe dementia) and tell your loved ones beforehand what your wishes are.
I apologize for lying the other day! I used the term "death panels", and they didn't exist!
I'm sure you Republicans don't care that I lied! I love Republican voter's complete and utter blind subservience to us GOP liars!
I found out the closest thing in the new bills to a "death panel" is an amendment added by a Georgia Republican! And don't forget the Death Panels that were part of
Only.. death panels do exist. Obama calls them 'end of life consultations with physicians'. End of life = death, consultation w/ physicians = panels. So, yes, they exist, and Obama himself admitted they do and Palin said nothing even remotely false. Try failing harder next time fail guy. It will probably be difficult to do.
LOL I love how you're arguing semantics while dancing around the actual facts behind this.
Without the heated semantics being thrown around to get you all fired up, you wouldn't have any valid logical threads to form your opposition with.
Ignore the rhetoric for just a second. What will this proposed policy ACTUALLY do vs. what Fox News is saying it will do? What is bad about this policy?
"I love how you're arguing semantics while dancing around the actual facts behind this." - the question is semantics, because the criticism of Palin's statement is purely based on Palin's use of language to describe them (negative) vs Obama + co's use of language to describe them (positive, flowery). Palin said nothing that was a factual error, this person claimed she did. Therefore this person is factually in error in making that claim. That was the point of contention
Yep - death panels do exist all right. You can find them in the cubicle farms of every health insurance companies. When they start automatically denying my claims for my son's lymphoma, and I'm pushed between selling my home (which I did) or being declined treatment at the clinic since my worthless insurance company was spitting out denials faster than they were receiving claims, that's nothing less than a death panel.
I am not terminally ill or in avegetative state, so the question doesn't apply to me. My point is that the decision is non-politcal, but is between the ill/Family and the doctors. This is a view that most Americans share. In the Schiavo case it was Republicans that introduced the gov't into the case. So they have no credibility there.
Yes, Michael Schiavo claimed to be a registered republican when he brought the government in by requesting a death sentence for the wife he had abandoned. The bipartisan effort to allow Terri Schiavo to be represented in court for the first time ever was a valiant effort. The republican (Judge Greer) who ordered her termination violated her Constitutional rights. But why did you bring it up? Could you try addressing the booklet?
According to Florida LAW, he had to convince a court in order to remove her feeding tube. However, the matter was decided in Florida courts. However, the Republicans, by SPECIAL ACT OF CONGRESS extended the applicability of the issue to Federal Courts. WTF do you call that? It was a FAMILY matter that had already been decided, and subsequent examination proved that she was in a vegetative state. You're wrong on the facts, and hypocritical as well! Brought it up to show you have no credibility.
I brought it up because it's WE who believe it's a non-gov't matter. Since gov't covers healthcare costs, it can and does inform people about choices, birth control, abortion, assisted suicide, a number of things which it DOES NOT ENFORCE, but finances (ideally). You objections only count if you stood against the gov't getting involved in the Schiavo case (you're not) or if the gov't MANDATED mercy killings, which it doesn't. No one is talking about a gov't mandated lack of choice that kills.
As for assisted suicide, that will probably be taken out, even though it should be left in. The point is, no one is saying "hurry-up and die" it's a choice and a decision that some people have to make, regardless of your personal beliefs
Its a case of projection all over again with the conservative movement. Wasn't it the Republicans who wanted to cut everyone off who was too "melancholy" to contribute to society and to live by "pulling up their boot-straps"? Even though those who are old, disabled, etc. are unable to do so? Isn't it conservatives who want to get rid of Medicare and Social Security like Dick Armey, leaving the poor and old without any safety net, essentially condemning them? Its all garbage from the right.
Fox News works on the principle that their regular viewers are ill-informed and not too bright. Those people spend money too. And who do they have to compete with for these advertising dollars? No-one! Because if there is some nutcase out there that is on another network, they go out and get him!
I have no idea. And if you know, its because it says something you want to hear. But I'm from Canada Hali, and our health has been taken care of 24-7, 365 days per year for the past 45 years. And if they didn't provide it, they would spend my money on some worthless shit like war or something.
Yet again, a GOPer acting all shocked & bothered about one of their own policies, playing it off as a Dem policy. This VA pamplet was created under a GOP administration. Where was their shock & outrage then? Living wills have been federal policy for over 20 yrs, under GOP & Dem leadership. Yet again, where was the shock & outrage then? This is just more GOP fearmongering, exploiting the ignorance of average Americans & insulting the intelligence of informed Americans..
Bullshit. Clinton was not a member of the GOP. He was a dem. This booklet was introduced during his administration. Bush banned it. Obama reinstated it.
If this is such a wonderful booklet, Why do y'all keep trying to distance yourself from it?
Why do you keep repeating yourself you retarded parrot? It is like all things. If you do not want it then don't read it. You conservatives are always blowing shit out of proportion. I am one of those liberals that you want to be careful of. I have a brother who died in Vietnam. So take your and TJ666 self righteous attitude somewhere else. You may want to take out one of those living wills since you are currently not serving a purpose.
The VA is run by the Executive branch of the government. Clinton was in charge when it came out, Bush abolished it, 0bama brings it back. The Party of Death strikes again.
Bullshit, right back at you. Bush never abolished this & Obama didn't bring it back. It's been there the whole time. Check your facts when they fit too nicely with your line of thought.
And what? No comment on the 20 years of living wills as federal policy? That's because you know I'm right. There's nothing to run from when discussing living wills. It's a good policy for anybody to have. It protects you from idiots trying to undermine your last wishes, such as in Shiavo case.
i love wen politicians compare modern agendas to nazi policies, its a great way to let the audience know that they the person speaking should not be listened to
"If you checked "worth living, but just barely" for more than one factor, would a combination of these factors make your life "not worth living?" If so, which factors?"
I guess as long it's about preparing a living will, they can write anything they want in it, with impunity.
Read the booklet. It's about preparing a living will that reflects the values of The Hemlock Society. If those are your values, so be it. But it's wrong to push disabled vets suffering from depression to forfeit their medical benefits to save their families and society from the burden of caring for them.
Jim Towey wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed, "The Death Book for Veterans,"
Funny,Towey brought this pamphlet to light, while he's trying to hawk his own end of life pamphlet to the VA.
$5/pamphlet,millions of Vets,do the math.
Jim Towey is president of Saint Vincent College, was director of the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives (2002-2006) and founder of the nonprofit Aging with Dignity.
He was on Fox News Sunday, yesterday, so now all the parrots' turn to chime in.
Cluster Fox just isn't looking at the bright side ;) i see new cottage industries popping up putting people back to work in pure capitalistic american tradition. snatching retarded babies from cradles, pushing wheelchair bound vets over cliffs, unplugging granny AND gramps--2 for the price of one today! suicide cocktail injection specialists, melancholy people smotherers. gosh, the possibilities are endless!! with our imagination and "can do" spirit we can make this health holocaust work!
soylent green, indeed. and why aren't they mentioning the Forced Organ Donation Program--it's right there in the bill! these Fox Dung Beetles just aren't digging deep enough!
I'm not sure how anyone reading this booklet can come to the conclusion it asks vets to "hurry up and die".
The booklet shows not every has the same definitions about certain terms (what it means to be a vegetable or to 'pull the plug'). It asks seniors to organize their thoughts or at least think about how they want to their final days to be.
You'd have to have a pretty perverse reading to pull "death panels" from that.
route99, "I'm not sure how anyone reading this booklet can come to the conclusion it asks vets to 'hurry up and die'."
because conservatards always project. they accuse Democrats and Liberals of doing the things that conservatards are up to. so if lucianne's little boy jonah (who never accomplished anything on his own) says Liberals are planning something, it means that conservatards are actually doing it right now. Vets ought to be wary of conservatards and repugnicants.
Hmm FoxNews invites Jonah Goldberg, the guy who wrote "Liberal Fascism" and works for the National Review, with no one to counter his bullshit talking-points.
It is disgusting that they would use the veterans as a tool to fight against health care reform when so many vets I know are all for the Public Option Plan. They are offended.
If anyone is still confused about the health care bill you may find the information on my profile in the comment section helpful. Also included are ways in which you can get more involved including phone #'s, petitions etc..
Yeah, it is disgusting to use military veterans to promote a political ideology that's designed to cost those vets their very lives. To kick them when they're down, and pressure them into giving up when the going gets tough, is reprehensible.
To bad The Bush Admin actually started using that book to begin with. At least now it is being revised. I think a vet should have the right to make his or her own decisions regarding what they want at the end of their lives. I don't think they were forced to fill that out.. and you know the answers to those questions may also be used as an indicator for depression to see if the vet is sound enough to make the choices. Most people for example would not want to die as opposed to being crippled.
The book was introduced during the Clinton administration, banned during the Bush administration, and reinstated during the Obama administration. But don't let facts get in your way.
Thats garbage. This book was used under the Bushies, not reinstated. The fact is Veterans should have a right to have living wills, and not let an act of congress decide wether someone has to stay oon lfe support the rest of their life..
Veterans do have a right to have a living will. They also have the right to have their own values reflected in their living will. They should not be pressured into believing they're a burden on their families and society.
The booklet didn't exist it was introduced during the Clinton administration. So no, it wasn't used "under the Bushies." It was still in use during the beginning of W's admin, but when it was brought to his attention, he banned it. Obama reinstated it. Why are the facts so difficult for you to accept? If the booklet was really as benign as democrats claim, why try to distance yourselves from it?
I researched the booklet, KiddVid, and it tunrs out I was wrong (but not in the way that you think). The booklet actually talks about Living Wills and how a veteran can communicate one's preferences about DNR's, finances, treatment, etc..should he/she be incapacitated, such as in a coma. Assisted Suicide is still (incredibly) illegal and the booklet doesn't mention that. Also, the booklet is optional and so must be requested.
I just saved a copy of the pamphlet on my computer. I havn't read the whole thing yet but from what I gathered, it was a guide on how to put together a living will for terminally or near terminally ill patients. If that is somhow evil, than what would be your plan. What advice would you give to an Army Vet like ME who has seen combat in Iraq, if I were to become terminally ill. Are YOU gonna help me with my will. If not, KEEP YOUR PRIVATE HANDS OFF MY GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE!
There IS an exercise on page 21 which is designed to help the patient determine THEIR beliefs & values. There are questions in the exercise (if you read the intructions) that a person will ask themselves when drafting a living will. Next to each of the questions are 4 boxes that can be checked with the statements:difficult, but worth living/ worth living but just barely/not worth living/ can't answer now. These answers are up to the patient to decide, not the government.
And YES!..."Am I a financial burden to my family" is 1 of the questions on page 21. If you think that you can put together a living will without that question entering your mind, then you must NOT have kids.
Swhip: the book started with Clinton, Bush threw it out & Obama put it back in. "just the facts maam " says sgt Friday on Dragnet (. that sure was a good old TV show. ) tj
Who cares when the book first came to be.. the point is they are now using it as a tool to fight against health care reform and that is disgusting. Ask yourself this question. If the book is so scarey than why is it we have not heard of it before? Have Vets been being killed this entire time because of the book.. I think not.. otherwise we would have heard about it. It really is a non issue and a desperate attempt to once again try to go against the wishes of the American People and Obama.
If you believe the crap Megyn Kelly is selling I've got a bridge in Brooklyn with your name on it KiddVid.
I mean seriously did you even read the booklet? Or did you rely on Fox to "decode" it for you, that way you can get to it's secret meaning...'pressuring vets to give up their lives'.
You're reprehensible. Think for yourself for a change.
Yes, I read the booklet. I had to explain to a disabled vet in my family that we value him & don't want him to take the propaganda in that booklet to heart. But my experience must seem foreign to those of you who've never served, had a family member who served, nor even known anyone who's ever served. It's all theory for you. But you can still find the booklet online, and see that it does ask vets to consider whether or not their lives are worth living, and it pushes them to conclude it's not.
your experience is foreign, alright, but not for the altruistic reasons you so gladly and smugly assume. those of us of a certain age have fathers who served in Korea, and brothers who fought in Vietnam, so please take your Angel of Infinite Wisdom and Mercy routine and shove it as far up your anal orifice as possible.
The experience of service members is foreign to you because you've never actually served, nor been close to anyone who has served. It's as simple as that. You can't gain experience from reading fiction and using your imagination. It just doesn't work that way.

The devil is losing and at the end will be judged for all the crimes.
Everyone loses......

We, as liberals, need to stop paying attention to this bullshit. The fact that we even debate it gives legitimacy to this stupid bullshit.

Hey Jazzman, a U.S. army hospital and va hospital are both controlled by the government. Can you not see the connection?

I think what is really at issue here, with the healthcare reform debate, is whether the US is 1st a democratic republic or, 2nd a capitalist nation.
Or vice versa.
We need to set our priorities straight.

Fro those posting that the VA is so terrible---
I am a vet and cannot get into the VA. You are lucky. I would be grateful for ANY health care.
Instead of complaining, why don't you use this very rare opportunity to change what you don't like about the VA?
Think about it.... you have the ENTIRE nation listening to ideas on health care. They are holding town hall meetings to ask for input.
All of us are debating the same subject at the same time, for the first time in decades.

As a combat service-connected disabled veteran possessing personal experience with several VA hospitals around the country, the VA sucks. Any idiot that honestly hopes for socialized health care deserves what he/she gets. Why don't you all go serve several years and see firsthand the health care while in the military, go into combat and get injured, afterwards register with the VA, then through personal experience with socialized health care come here and comment.
chessgame1960 2 years ago
I served in the 82nd Airborne during Vietnam. I've had nothing but a good experience with the VA, as have all the vets I talk to at the facilities. It's not perfect, but better than I ever had from private systems. Sorry you're not with them anymore; I hope you've had better treatment where you are now.
Jazzycat47 2 years ago
I am disabled Vet too and I've had great care at the VA.

cryan71 2 years ago 2

More fear and lies from the Right.

Yes, I've read it. There is NOTHING in it that suggests vets commit suicide, or that their life is not worth living. It treats vets like adults, with intelligence.

This is a very straightforward pamphlet that provides the reader witg choices that he/she would be unalbe to do when so severely sick or damaged that he/se can't communicate. It doesn't force anyone to anything, it just provides the consize and honest information that one would need to make such a choice. the numbers for government-paid healthcare do not add up unless you get old people to die earlier than they would with life-sustaining care. if you support single-payer YOU BETTER HOPE THERE ARE DEATH PANELS. single-payer will not work any other way. look at Massachussets. they have single-payer without death panels. look at their numbers! in healthcare old people are where the money is. with single-payer THEY HAVE TO DIE EARLY, especially with the abortion fiasco that has curbed young payers

Every single one of them has at least one death panel. AND THEY ALL RATION CARE.

Goldberg is right.
Individualism values individual human life.
freesk8 2 years ago
You have no idea what you're talking about. There is no compulsion to kill oneself or advice to do such a thing. There is simply the advice about the way in which you will live if your health continues as it is. There is no compulsion, or pressure to hurt oneself. It is simply health advice.
tnrc75 2 years ago
I never suggested there was compulsion.
I said that having the government give you a book that suggested you consider killing yourself was sick.
That may only be among the options the book suggests. But the fact that it even suggests the option is what should trouble anyone.
freesk8 2 years ago
You did suggest that giving advice about the quality of life would be tantamount to endorsing government-sanctioned murder. And again, what is the problem with simply informing people that their quality of life may diminish given the progression of an illness?
tnrc75 2 years ago
The problem is that there is a conflict of interest.
When a Judge is set to try a case in which his wife is the defendant, judicial ethics tell him he must recuse himself. Similarly, when the government stands to benefit from a patient refusing care, there is a conflict of interest in giving that person a book that suggest that suicide is one option.
The government should not start doing that.
freesk8 2 years ago
THere is no conflict of interest. And interestingly, these regulations were in place during the George W. Bush administration and not one Republican EVER raised a stink. To suggest the government is telling people they can commit suicide is ridiculous. They are telling people about their future health prospects.
tnrc75 2 years ago
I'm no Republican, and did not vote for Bush.
I think Obama and Bush are equally bad, just in different ways.
But many similar ways!
Both overspent. Both favor war in the Middle East.
Both gave massive bailouts to corporations.
Both yucky in my opinion.
I voted third party.
freesk8 2 years ago
That's fine, but it doesn't negate the wrongheadedness of your statements about health care. If you're smart enough not to vote for W, you should be smart enough to realize the government is not advising its own citizens to commit suicide.

No one should take progressive support for the VA or Medicare/Medicaid as endorsements of those system's current state, though. Before the misinformed hit the town halls, historically the Democrats have been the ones turned to for support of Medicare and the VA.

KiddVid 2 years ago
"I love how you're arguing semantics while dancing around the actual facts behind this." - the question is semantics, because the criticism of Palin's statement is purely based on Palin's use of language to describe them (negative) vs Obama + co's use of language to describe them (positive, flowery). Palin said nothing that was a factual error, this person claimed she did. Therefore this person is factually in error in making that claim. That was the point of contention
TheIllegit 2 years ago
nice try, goofball.
"end of life consultations with physicians" happen every single day right now. it goes like this.
patient: "doc, i've been thinking about what would happen to me were i to go into a permanent vegetative state like that Schiavo lady."
doctor: "maybe you should think about a living will so that people will know what you want in case something happens. here, take these pamphlets."
patient: "ok, doc. i'll read them and get back to you."
doctor: "have a nice afternoon."
novazembla 2 years ago

Zakdayak 2 years ago
Yes, Michael Schiavo claimed to be a registered republican when he brought the government in by requesting a death sentence for the wife he had abandoned. The bipartisan effort to allow Terri Schiavo to be represented in court for the first time ever was a valiant effort. The republican (Judge Greer) who ordered her termination violated her Constitutional rights. But why did you bring it up? Could you try addressing the booklet?
KiddVid 2 years ago
According to Florida LAW, he had to convince a court in order to remove her feeding tube. However, the matter was decided in Florida courts. However, the Republicans, by SPECIAL ACT OF CONGRESS extended the applicability of the issue to Federal Courts. WTF do you call that? It was a FAMILY matter that had already been decided, and subsequent examination proved that she was in a vegetative state. You're wrong on the facts, and hypocritical as well! Brought it up to show you have no credibility.
Zakdayak 2 years ago
I brought it up because it's WE who believe it's a non-gov't matter. Since gov't covers healthcare costs, it can and does inform people about choices, birth control, abortion, assisted suicide, a number of things which it DOES NOT ENFORCE, but finances (ideally). You objections only count if you stood against the gov't getting involved in the Schiavo case (you're not) or if the gov't MANDATED mercy killings, which it doesn't. No one is talking about a gov't mandated lack of choice that kills.
Zakdayak 2 years ago
As for assisted suicide, that will probably be taken out, even though it should be left in. The point is, no one is saying "hurry-up and die" it's a choice and a decision that some people have to make, regardless of your personal beliefs
Zakdayak 2 years ago
Its a case of projection all over again with the conservative movement. Wasn't it the Republicans who wanted to cut everyone off who was too "melancholy" to contribute to society and to live by "pulling up their boot-straps"? Even though those who are old, disabled, etc. are unable to do so? Isn't it conservatives who want to get rid of Medicare and Social Security like Dick Armey, leaving the poor and old without any safety net, essentially condemning them? Its all garbage from the right.

The irony is Bush's bullshit coverage of post-war Iraq vets has been one of the biggest injustices in health.

Smartassawhip 2 years ago
Yeah, it is disgusting to use military veterans to promote a political ideology that's designed to cost those vets their very lives. To kick them when they're down, and pressure them into giving up when the going gets tough, is reprehensible.
KiddVid 2 years ago
To bad The Bush Admin actually started using that book to begin with. At least now it is being revised. I think a vet should have the right to make his or her own decisions regarding what they want at the end of their lives. I don't think they were forced to fill that out.. and you know the answers to those questions may also be used as an indicator for depression to see if the vet is sound enough to make the choices. Most people for example would not want to die as opposed to being crippled.
Smartassawhip 2 years ago
The book was introduced during the Clinton administration, banned during the Bush administration, and reinstated during the Obama administration. But don't let facts get in your way.
KiddVid 2 years ago
Thats garbage. This book was used under the Bushies, not reinstated. The fact is Veterans should have a right to have living wills, and not let an act of congress decide wether someone has to stay oon lfe support the rest of their life..
MrMojoRisinII 2 years ago
Veterans do have a right to have a living will. They also have the right to have their own values reflected in their living will. They should not be pressured into believing they're a burden on their families and society.
KiddVid 2 years ago
The booklet didn't exist it was introduced during the Clinton administration. So no, it wasn't used "under the Bushies." It was still in use during the beginning of W's admin, but when it was brought to his attention, he banned it. Obama reinstated it. Why are the facts so difficult for you to accept? If the booklet was really as benign as democrats claim, why try to distance yourselves from it?

I haven't found one yet who can address the content of the booklet.
KiddVid 2 years ago

What's your take on page 21?
KiddVid 2 years ago
There IS an exercise on page 21 which is designed to help the patient determine THEIR beliefs & values. There are questions in the exercise (if you read the intructions) that a person will ask themselves when drafting a living will. Next to each of the questions are 4 boxes that can be checked with the statements:difficult, but worth living/ worth living but just barely/not worth living/ can't answer now. These answers are up to the patient to decide, not the government.
walkwizzy 2 years ago
And YES!..."Am I a financial burden to my family" is 1 of the questions on page 21. If you think that you can put together a living will without that question entering your mind, then you must NOT have kids.
walkwizzy 2 years ago
Swhip: the book started with Clinton, Bush threw it out & Obama put it back in. "just the facts maam " says sgt Friday on Dragnet (. that sure was a good old TV show. ) tj

Thanks. Now we'll somebody to tell them again in another 15 minutes.

Smartassawhip 2 years ago 2

KiddVid 2 years ago
your experience is foreign, alright, but not for the altruistic reasons you so gladly and smugly assume. those of us of a certain age have fathers who served in Korea, and brothers who fought in Vietnam, so please take your Angel of Infinite Wisdom and Mercy routine and shove it as far up your anal orifice as possible.
junkforkaryn 2 years ago
The experience of service members is foreign to you because you've never actually served, nor been close to anyone who has served. It's as simple as that. You can't gain experience from reading fiction and using your imagination. It just doesn't work that way.
