  • This was actually my very first gig with Roy, and Gerald and I didn't arrive at our hotel until an hour before the gig because of our stupid flight.

  • Anyone know who the drummer for this lineup is?

  • Chris Brown on Drums

  • He's pretty good, does he play with anyone else?

  • Chris Brown

    Cost: N/A

"Greg Louis Organ Trio": Greg Louis (Organ), Ron Jackson (Guitar), Chris Brown (Drums).

  • beautiful solo's!

  • I've watched 24 roy hargrove youtube clips straight, and this one is another corker!!!

  • Gerald Clayton! Such a young kid with so much in front of him!

  • Amazing, I can't find it on itunes though is it on an album or is there anywhere I could get it?

  • If you search iTunes for "Jazz NW", youll find a podcast from Centrum Jazz Fest. The whole song is about 31 mins into the podcast. The pc includes a whole concert.

  • what date was the podcast released

  • The song is called "Strasbourg/St Denis", (name of two french town where the band toured), this song is on the 2008 album of The Roy Hargrove Quintet called Earfood.

  • Strasbourg - St Denis is the metro stop close to the New Morning jazz club in Paris. It is also close to the rue Saint Denis which is famed for its prostitutes, hence the hip, sexy, and rather "upstairs inviting" trumpet line on the song.

  • Actually, it's the name of a Paris tube station, close to a very ... lively area !

  • Killin'! Get it Roy!

  • strasbourg saint denis

  • What's this song called?

  • groovin` high

  • hahaha and danny, gus and graham

  • what it is, evan shay?

  • It's just repeated.

  • i was at the centrum jazz workshop at Port Townsend and Roy Hargrove played there. They played this song and all of the Garfield kids were so excited. It was the best performance I've ever seen.

  • who are you i probably know you.

  • do you know if there's a bridge to this, or if it's just that a section repeated?

  • i saw roy hargrove perform this tune live. my friend asked him what the name is and roy said it's called "strasbourg saint denis", he said it's a place in France.

  • Is this the only video of this song?

  • you should have seen garfield. they are probably the best high school jazz band in the country

  • well, roosevelt won essentially ellington... garfield's got awesome soloists but roosevelt has actually got an ensemble, and good soloists too.

  • roosevelt and garfield consistantly make it to EE almost every year. garfield is honestly better in general, not just saying about ellington stuff. there's a lot more to jazz than just emulating ellington's big band. however, both garfield and roosevelt are good... and i'm a mountlake terrace fan. even if they get 2nd to garfield or roosevelt a lot... they're bomb. darin faul is an amazing director.

  • ah i go to Newport and it sucks ass being so close to garfield and rossevelt haha. whole different league, those guys are crazy

  • hey jazztenorsaxdude do you have a chart for this tune?

  • nah I don't sadly. I should've gotten a copy of it at the gig that I played it at. I would give it to you if I had it!

  • just transcribe it. it's not that hard. that's what we did :D

  • its an untitled composition. garfield high school (from seattle) killed it.

  • i go to garfield and i have played this song at a gig. it is great fun to play. the energy can get to a really high level.

  • where's the rest of this tune gone? i'm dying to here it, why wont he record it i wonder? he should!

  • i was at lionel hampton when they played it, it was incredible. and your right, it isn't on any cd's and i don't think it has a title

  • I love this song hardcore, and i also don't know the name. i think you're right about it not being recorded yet... but YEAH. they played it at Lionel Hampton this year and i think i fell in love.

  • Man whats this song called. I've probably watched this video 25 times.

  • this song rocks! its awesome

  • I love this song. I don't think its been recorded yet. When he performed at Yoshi's, Hargrove mentioned something about it coming to him in a dream and wanting to name it after some street in Paris maybe.

  • You are EXACTLY right.

The song was created by him in Paris.

he says it is named after a section of Paris near the New Morning Cafe pronounced ( sun-den-ni spelling not certain)

He created this tune in the year 2005 around the Spring. And he also has lyrics to it..it is actually love song.

  • I'm not sure either but when he came to Portlands jazz festival last friday i saw him play and they played this song. I love this song.

  • oh yeah, and hes WAAAAY better live.

  • Is this Marc Carey on piano and what is the name of this tune?

  • No, it's Gerald Clayton on piano, not sure what the tune is.

  • @flyingchilders its called strasbourg/st denis
