My dad, Gordon Flynn, played with Thumbs in 1951-2 while they were with Little Jimmy Dickens....Dad played the Steel Guitar....I wish I had video of that time....
I use to listen to Thumbs at the 17 bar in Billings.Montana. Thumbs played there for a year or so before Roger Miller found out about him and hired Thumbs. It was 1962 if I recall.I could listen to him all night.

hay thumb,s i just mised you in the army, they said you was shiped out a couple of days before i got there. that was fort gordan ga. i would have liked to pick with you. dana.
When I was four I begin to learn the guitar. Because my hands were (still are) to small to reach around the neck, I would lay my ($9) Stella on my lap and play like you do. I played that way until I was 9. I would also put a piece of wood (cut higher than the nut) under the strings right behind the nut to raise the string off the frets so I could use a steel bar to play Hawaiian style music.
I've always loved this song. Thanks for this beautiful version.

Thanks for preserving and sharing this excellent music — it's an eye . . . ear opener.

Yeah he sure does. But you know I have albums from him where he only played the fender jazzmaster...maybe he uses both just a guess
