Actually, it was written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for a musical. Nina Simone just happened to cover it first, so it became her song, I suppose.

oh yeah!!! That's it.. it's the same song but two different intentions. Here I think about the same thing as you... but when I listen to Nina's song it's more about the black history, about world war 2 and the apartheid. Both are ab-solut-ely great.

i prefer nina's version because of the post-world war 2 sound. makes the jazz feel more real especially the instrumental. if you want to know what i mean then look up the original or play The Saboteur's version of nina's Feeling good
