You won't ever have a mag release accident as did Nutnfancy because you're a LEFTY. Think about which side has the release and which thumb is near it.
Nice review. Because of this and others, I'm getting mine tomorrow, if in stock.
I bought this gun as my first pistol and i love it being a female my hands are smaller so it fits well in my hand. I take it to the range often and have had no issues with it at all
my first round misfired then had at least 5 rounds in 50 jam thats 10%!!!! the crimson trace i have for this gun is pathetic-- i did much better without it-- sighted from the factory my ass, rarely needs adjustment, my ass
Sootch giving us the frosty look at 0:12! ;) Excellent shooting form in that segment. (In some of the later shot strings you were "regripping" after each shot. But I bet that little gun jumps around in the hand ...)
If your slide wont go back properly after assembly, take out the pin again. Position the slide so its even with the body (looks like its reassembled). Set the pin back in, and slowly move the slide backwards until the pin can be pushed all the way down.
If you rack the slide way back and then start to put the pin back in, it will sit wrong and the slide wont move forward when you try to close it.
I am thinking of getting a lcp and purchasimg a wallet type holster to carry in my back pocket. Im worried about magazine ejection though. Anybody have exierience with this weapon carried in a back pocket?
I shot a friend's LCP this week. I was suprised by how accurate and comfortable (reasonably) this gun was. I'm not a .380 fan and don't go below 9mm or .38spl for CCW but I can see that you can carry this LCP in any situation.
But.....my friend bought Tulammo to the range. His LCP has been reliable with everythng else but it would not cycle Tulammo. It was a single shot semi auto today. Something to think about. I shoot steel cased ammo but usually it's at least Silver Bear for handguns.
They're nice little guns, my buddy has one and we were shooting it after my CCW class in early March and he brought TulAmmo and it would cycle but not reliably with his either. It would cycle but not go into battery so every few rounds you'd have to tap the back of the slide to slam it home.
Generally I carry a SP101 .357 but I've been considering one of these, it'll do the job and you can put it in your pocket on a hot day and forget it's there until you need it.
bought the wife one, rasberry and black, she fell in love with it, i carry a glock 45 model 30 myself and i like hers so much im going back to get it in black.
I agree with sootch. I have a S&W Airweight 38 that is definitely not a range gun to shoot for an hour but it is made for concealed carry and conceals perfectly. If you're concerned about a long life and want a .380 you can shoot without worry and practice extensively with, I also have a Sig P232 .380 and it is light enough and small enough to conceal IWB, has never had a misfeed and is accurate as Hell. Only drawback? Price...but worth every cent if you can afford one!
I just bought one today and wondered what the difference was in the LCP that has the silver/ metallic slide and the black one.? The other ones with a different slide were 369.00 at two other gun shops and the one i bought that looks exactly like this one for 293.00?
There is no effective difference. The "shiney" one probably has a little different metal alloy and a different finish. Ruger makes several options, I have seen a few. I own the black one.
The company makes more money when they change the slide color or various other things. You might get a little more corosion resistence or something.
I think ALL gun companys do this with thier guns. People like to have a unique looking gun, not really me though.
I wouldn't risk carrying this gun with an uncovered trigger. If it had a manual safety, then I'd have a different opinion. Great review! Your vid is one of main reasons I chose an LCP over similar guns.
I use a Swiss Army knife screwdriver tool to help with the pin. I had a real hard time the first time. Now that I have it broken in I try to shoot it with Crimson Trace at no more than 7 to 10 meters for its real use distance. I can hit center mass although I tend to shoot slightly up and left. I am still working on learning the weapon. It is so light I carry it like my watch and wallet now.
you think you should just get hard piece of plastic to remove that pin? that way it doesnt unnecessarily mark up the gun. i dont own a lcp so i dont know personally what its like to take em apart.
I'm watching the tear down of this gun and I'm wondering if this was before the recall. I am holding my LCP up to my monitor and it's evident that the front of the notch on the slide has got a slight ramp vs his gun the notch is squared off.My version of this gun is more difficult to use a screw driver to pop the pin out.I don't know how I'm going to do it with out scratching the finish.Does anyone know what I'm talking about ? You thoughts?
I know this video may be old,but to comment on 380 ammo pricing.I live in Lower Bucks County,Pa. and have a Wal-Mart (God I hate going there.I feel like I'm the only one not on welfare,or living in a trailor park) a few miles away. They have a very nice selection of ammo. Thanks for your video. My edc carry is the lcp. It is a reliable, accurate pistol. It's easy to carry daily, flat in the pocket and so easy to hide. I just love it. Around the house I keep my glock 19 or my wife's sp101. For shooting, I put my index figer over the trigger guard to hold the pistol down during recoil. I also put some primer then flourescent fishing lure paint on the front sight. I have shot quite a few hundred rounds and it performs flawlessly. Reliable!

@sootch00 Which gun do you prefer for pocket carry between a Ruger LCP and a J Frame revolver (38 special)? I'm leaning towards the J frame due to its better stopping power and reliability, but I like the Ruger LCP's concealability, I prefer semi-automatics, it holds 2 extra rounds of ammo and reloading is easier. What should I buy?
I just bought a Ruger LCP to protest the AZ boycott. We Arizonans love Mexican culture, people and food, but not so much illegal criminals who cause trouble.
Extremely informative review, thank you very much for this. Do you know if there are any comparably-sized pistols or revolvers that shoot a less expensive round?
Great review! I was wondering what brand of sight is that on the front sight I love that red I'm getting this pistol and absolutely love that red front sight. It it a trijicon?
@adamkajones It has the second strike option, The hammer is recessed so you can't thumb cock it but the hammer comes back with each pull of the trigger, Thanks~
@adamkajones Hey it doesn't have it. It pre-cocks with each rack of the slide. Sootch00 just has to many guns so he probably made a mistake, lol. (no such thing as too many guns)
@adamkajones no, the lcp does not have the second strike capability. it must be cocked first for the trigger to actuate the hammer. if you wanted a second strike, you would have to pull the slide back enough to cock it but not so much that the round in the chamber gets ejected, then release the slide and pull the trigger. which is obviously a useless self defense maneuver...
@kindfacedswayze Its a semi automatic gun so it recocks itself everytime you fire, once you cock it the first time your ready to go....Idk exactly what gun your thinking of but your wrong.
that's why S&W is releasing the bodyguard line. I wish the gun manufacturers would release a gun like this in .22magnum! Give the ammo guys time to catch up on .380. With so many new .380's coming out looks like we will have to keep ordering 4 months ahead of time to get any. Love the lcp going to get one as soon as I can score 500 rounds or so!
@MikaGary Check your recoil springs to make sure they are in the barrel notch. I can't think of any other reason the slide wouldn't go back into position. Rewatch the reassembly part of the video too.
got one for the wife, not good. She is very lady like, light weight and not very strong in her hands. Well small wasnt really the best option, I think its too small for her. The recoil and lack of gripping area made it hard for her to shoot. I think something like the bersa 380 would have been a better choice.
Great review, I've been hearing that the life of the gun is only 5,000 or 6,000 rounds, any credibility to that? It does kick due to size and weight but conceals well. I shoot often so I'm worrying that I would have to buy one every 5 or 6 years.
I haven't heard the life expectancy numbers but it's a CCW gun and not one for extensive shooting. After shooting this one, it gets uncomfortable after 50 rounds, so I don't think I'd wear it out! Lol! I understand your concern but see no need to be alarmed. It's purpose is concealibility and reliability. It will take care of that option.
@jpm1084 6,000 rounds would be a lifetime of shooting for me...i cant imagine even shooting that much with my AK...ive had a box of 1000 rounds for 2 years....maybe gone through 200..
@jpm1084 You can replace the stock 9 lbs. recoil spring with a 13 lbs. Wolff recoil spring to take some of the wear & tear off the gun... You can also replace the stock guide rod with a higher quality one as the stock starts peening after only 500 rounds or so. Stock the gun should last you a very long time, even longer with those two quality parts (which are maintenance parts anyway).
GREAT GREAT REVIEW! just took my chl class yesturday and picking one of these bad boys up this week...bwahaha thank you for the review of this nicely concealable pistol
I use a BullDog BD841 "cell phone style" CC holster for my LCP .. it is on my belt, out in the open, and it looks just like a cell/pda holster. The one finger draw is also very smooth putting the weapon in an immediate firing position.
This little gun can be caried as a primary CCW but, I would consider it more of a back up gun. If you were to use this gun in a SD situation and the BG is very close to you point shoot for the eyes, ears or throat, the little .380 will get the job done then. IMHO.
definately not a range gun, and the .380 is a bit underpowered but the LCP is so small and light it's easy to carry 100% of the time, and a larger bore won't do any good if it's at home in the gun safe so a .380 is better than nothing (i'll still stick with a bit more power like a .38 spl+P or a 9mm for my carry options)
This is a great little pistol. It's like a Kel-tec with a little more polish. There's no wonder why the gun stores around town keep selling out of them.
nice review. i have had my lcp since october 2008. i like how you painted the front site. i tried to do mine, and the paint would not stick. how did you do it?
Yep, got one about 4 months ago. I put a Crimson Trace laser on it and carry it all the time in a wallet holster. It is easy to forget you have it. Perfect backup and deep concealment/CCW option. I haven't had any malfunctions with mine and the laser makes hitting your target easy. The total price for the weapon, CT laser and holster, tax in, was about 590. Its a great buy if you can find one.
Oh yeah. I'd say about 25 yards as an effective self defense pistol. There's a lot of disagreement about 380 being effective but it's all about shot placement~
That LCP has a loud as hell trigger reset. Looks like an awesome pistol though. Maybe I should have purchased the LCP rather than the expensive Micro Deagle. I like the look of the MDE though.
I also bought the 380 2 months ago and everything runs just as you showed in your video. Although, out of the first 200 rounds I had about 4 stovepipe jams. One thing the manual notes is NOT to use any + P ammo. Also I added a Crimson Trace Laser which has put me dead into the bulleye circle 95% of the time at 10 yards. I, also just last week bought the Sig 232 Stainless model and it is just superb. Even my wife loves shooting it
I got one of these... had one jam where the slide seemed to snag on the guide rod. Aside from that, you can hid that gun anywhere and is a decent shot at 20ft or so.
forgot to throw in that I personally do not like the pocket carry because of the reason you stated its hard to get a full combat grip on the pistol but I'd rather have it then not have it. I'd rather have this in my pocket or what have you then nothing at all... Sometimes its harder to carry a Sig 229/226, glock 17/19/21/22 etc... and you need a small pistol even if its just in your pocket. Wouldn't be my ideal pistol but I'd rather have something then nothing in certain times.
This is more of a backup piece or deep cover only. As you said the draw and grip is a bit troublesome with certain holsters. However I have found some awesome holsters which provide full grip access placing the pistol deep in the web of your hand such as the Uncle Mikes size 1, Desantis Nemesis/Nemesis Cargo if you wanna carry an extra mag... as well as the Galco pocket holster, and Talon Training Holster if you desire leather... For pocket carry I prefer the sticky Uncle Mikes/Blackhawk models.
380 acp is hard to find :( The caliber is effective, even though many like to bash it. I personally prefer my Glock 30 in 45acp, but I don't always carry it. The Ruger is great for super light and thin carry when you wouldn't carry a larger pistol. Thanks!
The main and recoil spring on these guns are pretty hardcore. Ruger needs to make deeper serrations in the slide. I've put around 500rds through this gun and don't think it will change much. It's common for the springs in these short slided guns to be less than great. Wolf Springs may be coming out w/ something, but unless you shoot custom loads reliability could suffer. Godbless
trigger pull take a little while to get used to? Looked like a very pronounced pull. Almost decided on the Kel-tec PF9. How many pounds that trigger feel like? thanks for vid.
I have looked at the LCP and reaserched on it also but my worst fear would be to be under calibered by the perp I can't take that chance but it is a nice hand gun.
I recently got to handlet, the LCP and LCR at my FFL buddies shop and found them both to be awesome little pistols. While handling the LCP, I put it in my back pocket and it disappeared behind my wallet! Obviously not an ideal way to carry but wow that concealability! Keep up the good work.
It doesn't lock open after the last shot? I don't really like that feature. But It doesn't matter because Conceal Carry is illegal in Belgium. I can't even carry a knife around..
They use everything we are not supposed to carry. Handguns, rifles, knives and even fully auto AK's. But the government doesn't want us to protect ourselves so we are forced to be victims.
For Concealed Carry, I'd choose the LCP hands down. It's super small, thin and light. For everyday shooting, I'd choose the Bersa. It is easier on the recoil and fits the hand better, with that said, either gun would be a good choice. Thanks~
It's not on the Socialist CA approved list. Although every gun store has them, for law enforcement only. I was ticked off when I found out I couldn't buy one. I wanted to add the LCP to my Ruger collection (10/22 & SR9). I guess i'll get the LCR.
Very nice review. I think I like the Bersa better. After your review I really checked out my friends Bersa. I think I am going to get one. I actually liked it better than my old PPKS. Your reviews really help me figure out what I want to take a closer look at. Thx!! P.S. I threw my holster in the wash and it worked great :) Thx for the tip. The Sig made a heck of a racket in the dryer though. LOL Good Day!!!!

@jonnychaos313 It can break the firing pin or mess it up

Great review! I was wondering what brand of sight is that on the front sight I love that red I'm getting this pistol and absolutely love that red front sight. It it a trijicon?
bhalmat5001 1 year ago
Does it have second strike capability?
adamkajones 1 year ago
@adamkajones It has the second strike option, The hammer is recessed so you can't thumb cock it but the hammer comes back with each pull of the trigger, Thanks~
sootch00 1 year ago
@adamkajones Hey it doesn't have it. It pre-cocks with each rack of the slide. Sootch00 just has to many guns so he probably made a mistake, lol. (no such thing as too many guns)
rwpock 1 year ago
@adamkajones what is "second strike capability"?
scjustin2002 8 months ago
@adamkajones no, the lcp does not have the second strike capability. it must be cocked first for the trigger to actuate the hammer. if you wanted a second strike, you would have to pull the slide back enough to cock it but not so much that the round in the chamber gets ejected, then release the slide and pull the trigger. which is obviously a useless self defense maneuver...
kindfacedswayze 7 months ago
@kindfacedswayze Its a semi automatic gun so it recocks itself everytime you fire, once you cock it the first time your ready to go....Idk exactly what gun your thinking of but your wrong.
BeetleJewse 6 months ago
that's why S&W is releasing the bodyguard line.

Hey Im having trouble reassembling my gun after cleaning it. the slide wont go back to original position. Help!!!!
MikaGary 2 years ago
@MikaGary Check your recoil springs to make sure they are in the barrel notch. I can't think of any other reason the slide wouldn't go back into position. Rewatch the reassembly part of the video too.
sootch00 2 years ago
Hey it's fixed! Thanks
MikaGary 2 years ago
@MikaGary yea i had the same problem, you need to pull the hammer back before you can put the slide back on....

and did i mention how thin this gun is
hawkdogie 2 years ago
got one for the wife, not good. She is very lady like, light weight and not very strong in her hands. Well small wasnt really the best option, I think its too small for her. The recoil and lack of gripping area made it hard for her to shoot. I think something like the bersa 380 would have been a better choice.
mxm190 2 years ago
if your trying to get her comfort level up for
shooting. start smaller i started my wife with a walther p22 and she love's it. we shoot together all the time now and its a lot fun

Great review, I've been hearing that the life of the gun is only 5,000 or 6,000 rounds, any credibility to that? It does kick due to size and weight but conceals well. I shoot often so I'm worrying that I would have to buy one every 5 or 6 years.
jpm1084 2 years ago
I haven't heard the life expectancy numbers but it's a CCW gun and not one for extensive shooting. After shooting this one, it gets uncomfortable after 50 rounds, so I don't think I'd wear it out! Lol! I understand your concern but see no need to be alarmed. It's purpose is concealibility and reliability. It will take care of that option.
sootch00 2 years ago 2
@jpm1084 6,000 rounds would be a lifetime of shooting for me...i cant imagine even shooting that much with my AK...ive had a box of 1000 rounds for 2 years....maybe gone through 200..
StealthyTyler0425 1 year ago
@jpm1084 You can replace the stock 9 lbs. recoil spring with a 13 lbs. Wolff recoil spring to take some of the wear & tear off the gun... You can also replace the stock guide rod with a higher quality one as the stock starts peening after only 500 rounds or so. Stock the gun should last you a very long time, even longer with those two quality parts (which are maintenance parts anyway).

I use a BullDog BD841 "cell phone style" CC holster for my LCP .. it is on my belt, out in the open, and it looks just like a cell/pda holster. The one finger draw is also very smooth putting the weapon in an immediate firing position.
k9rsq 2 years ago
This little gun can be caried as a primary CCW but, I would consider it more of a back up gun. If you were to use this gun in a SD situation and the BG is very close to you point shoot for the eyes, ears or throat, the little .380 will get the job done then. IMHO.
artemerysr 2 years ago
isnt it bad to dry fire these DAO pistols?
GL0CK19onboard 2 years ago
Ruger says it is ok to dry fire the LCP.
k9rsq 2 years ago
definately not a range gun, and the .380 is a bit underpowered but the LCP is so small and light it's easy to carry 100% of the time, and a larger bore won't do any good if it's at home in the gun safe so a .380 is better than nothing (i'll still stick with a bit more power like a .38 spl+P or a 9mm for my carry options)
apman0000 2 years ago
This is a great little pistol. It's like a Kel-tec with a little more polish. There's no wonder why the gun stores around town keep selling out of them.
eljohn385 2 years ago
Love mine. I put a small strip of reflective tape on my front sight too. I used white though.
I found that a spent shell casing works pretty well for field stripping, in a pinch. Also doesn't mar the slide.

Too bad they are law enforcement only in California.

looks like more trigger pull. .380 is a good round too. ruger makes great guns, one that i like is the mk2 22 cal.

Great review, Don. Thx. However, as a Southpaw, I do have a question... Do you think the mag release button would interfere with a left-handed grip?
stinkbug2012 2 years ago
Yeah, that could be a problem. Nutnfancy had trouble hitting the mag release and he's right handed. I would stop by a gun shop and test your grip.

Its a great buy if you can find one.

is this any good to kill someone from 30 feet?
USAworldpower1 2 years ago
Oh yeah. I'd say about 25 yards as an effective self defense pistol. There's a lot of disagreement about 380 being effective but it's all about shot placement~
sootch00 2 years ago
That LCP has a loud as hell trigger reset. Looks like an awesome pistol though. Maybe I should have purchased the LCP rather than the expensive Micro Deagle. I like the look of the MDE though.
AllahConsciousness 2 years ago
Great vid. Might want to get some snap caps is your going to dry fire your LCP. It's pretty hard on em.

Hi Veri~ Yeah, this little pistol is excellent. A lot of options because of the size. Thanks!
sootch00 2 years ago
I also bought the 380 2 months ago and everything runs just as you showed in your video. Although, out of the first 200 rounds I had about 4 stovepipe jams. One thing the manual notes is NOT to use any + P ammo. Also I added a Crimson Trace Laser which has put me dead into the bulleye circle 95% of the time at 10 yards. I, also just last week bought the Sig 232 Stainless model and it is just superb. Even my wife loves shooting it
oldwithgold 2 years ago
Good Job Don.... I think I'm going to get one.
glocklife 2 years ago
I got one of these... had one jam where the slide seemed to snag on the guide rod. Aside from that, you can hid that gun anywhere and is a decent shot at 20ft or so.
uflnuceng 2 years ago
forgot to throw in that I personally do not like the pocket carry because of the reason you stated its hard to get a full combat grip on the pistol but I'd rather have it then not have it. I'd rather have this in my pocket or what have you then nothing at all... Sometimes its harder to carry a Sig 229/226, glock 17/19/21/22 etc... and you need a small pistol even if its just in your pocket. Wouldn't be my ideal pistol but I'd rather have something then nothing in certain times.
jokermann77 2 years ago
This is more of a backup piece or deep cover only. As you said the draw and grip is a bit troublesome with certain holsters. However I have found some awesome holsters which provide full grip access placing the pistol deep in the web of your hand such as the Uncle Mikes size 1, Desantis Nemesis/Nemesis Cargo if you wanna carry an extra mag... as well as the Galco pocket holster, and Talon Training Holster if you desire leather... For pocket carry I prefer the sticky Uncle Mikes/Blackhawk models.

I have been looking into one of these for a back up or when I want something smaller (pocket carry or what have you)

scpd613 2 years ago
380 acp is hard to find :( The caliber is effective, even though many like to bash it. I personally prefer my Glock 30 in 45acp, but I don't always carry it. The Ruger is great for super light and thin carry when you wouldn't carry a larger pistol. Thanks!
sootch00 2 years ago
Nice review Don! That gun looks a lot like the glock in field strip indeed.

My slide is very tight and difficult for me to pull back. What can I do to make it easier? This is a brand new gun, not yet fired.

Thus making it easier to pull back

AiRs0fTNiNjA 2 years ago
The main and recoil spring on these guns are pretty hardcore. Ruger needs to make deeper serrations in the slide. I've put around 500rds through this gun and don't think it will change much. It's common for the springs in these short slided guns to be less than great. Wolf Springs may be coming out w/ something, but unless you shoot custom loads reliability could suffer. Godbless
valetudospang 2 years ago
Firing the gun will work out some of the tension, but not a lot. Working the slide will help you to get use to the way it works and become easier.
Thank you~

I have looked at the LCP and reaserched on it also but my worst fear would be to be under calibered by the perp I can't take that chance but it is a nice hand gun.
GLOCKSTEROC 2 years ago
I recently got to handlet, the LCP and LCR at my FFL buddies shop and found them both to be awesome little pistols. While handling the LCP, I put it in my back pocket and it disappeared behind my wallet! Obviously not an ideal way to carry but wow that concealability! Keep up the good work.
cbales17 2 years ago
you said "double action only". did the trigger pull feel light enough? thanks again

It doesn't lock open after the last shot? I don't really like that feature. But It doesn't matter because Conceal Carry is illegal in Belgium. I can't even carry a knife around..
pukkepop 2 years ago
Then what do the armed robbers use?
cragholder 2 years ago
They use everything we are not supposed to carry. Handguns, rifles, knives and even fully auto AK's. But the government doesn't want us to protect ourselves so we are forced to be victims.
pukkepop 2 years ago
These guns are a lot of fun to shoot.
I personally don't like the trigger pull on the LCP.
madeinamerica650 2 years ago
Which gun you personally prefer the bersa thunder or the LCP? and why?
izaak78 2 years ago
For Concealed Carry, I'd choose the LCP hands down. It's super small, thin and light. For everyday shooting, I'd choose the Bersa. It is easier on the recoil and fits the hand better, with that said, either gun would be a good choice. Thanks~

I know what you mean. 380 is not an ideal self defense round. But a 9mm LCP would recoil a lot more....
madeinamerica650 2 years ago
If you need 9mm which you would out past 75 feet IMHO go to the Kahr PM9 nice gun compact too
amcmgmt 2 years ago
It's not on the Socialist CA approved list. Although every gun store has them, for law enforcement only. I was ticked off when I found out I couldn't buy one. I wanted to add the LCP to my Ruger collection (10/22 & SR9). I guess i'll get the LCR.
