I've done an analysis on this song before and took the view that she took drugs and I got a high mark for it but now that I watch the video it looks to me that the main message is that she is different and doesn't belong on the land. @kattay11 Well, the song is about a girl who destroys herself using drugs. When she "slips beneath the waves" she is lost in drug induced delusions, lying in an alley, gone from the world.

The video represents the same thing. The wolf is her father, and when she grows she becomes lost in the "sea" and "beneath the waves" which are the drugs and the horrible things she does to obtain them. And the wolf (her father) waits for her to come back to him, but she never does.
