To everybody out there....from a neutral perspective. We all agree that gurbani was sung first and then written. So before we point fingers at anyone, look at yourself and think of what you like to listen to, what is being preached at your gurdwara; the kirtan of the guru's or of other musicians?

The purpose of mythology is not to be a historical record but to be inspirational, and that is their only purpose. The stories of Chandi and other gods and goddesses ect... are only there to serve as inspiration. People who believe mythology as fact are unaware of the true purpose of the stories because they have simple minds. If man can live 1000 years were is the proof?

@kukajatt1 In fact Baba Buddha jis birth happend in 1506 according to tradition and his passing is said to be in 1631. That means he was 125 years old. That is a possibility because the oldest documented person in history died in 1997 at the age of 122.

You know reading the negative comments below just makes me sad at the state we sikhs are in; the same sikhs who proclaim universal togetherness, who treat all religion alike, who respect all ways of life; yet people are still being negative below!!
anyway - the namdharis are stubborn on the issue of living guru's; that's their fault. However we sikhs are also stubborn on a lot of their ways of life too. Surely Guru Nanak had not intended to follow the Abrahamical religions in this context?

I dint know about namdharis follow gurus other than 10 gurus and finally Guru Granth sahib ji because such a classical kirtan they perform but again there are risks involved in this sect. Their belief in continuation of Gurus may, in fact, change the bani. There are no Gurus after Sri Guru Granth sahib ji for sikh panth.

being Sikh has nothing to do with hair or uniform. It is the Sikh culture you believe in and follow. People who chose to cut their hair are not as spiritual as you?
One of the 5 K's is Kesh (uncut hair) for an amritdhari Sikh. So basically being a Sikh DOES have somthing to do with hair. Rest of the 5 K's can be consider part of a Sikh's uniform therefore again, being a Sikh DOES have to do with uniform. I am not sure what you consider being spiritual but to be a Sikh keeping you hair is very important.
being a sikh has everything to do with hair, i agree that it is bani bana, however without bana you cannot calla yourself a sikh, bani and bana are both equal as it is bani which tells us what bana is. without bani bana you cannot call yourself a sikh, as you are not, sikhi is not by birth but by rehat.
I wear the full uniform, but I am at a much greater understanding than most Sikhs. You see, sikhism is very young - and spiritually so are many of its followers. In the end it is just you and Guru. You can get lost in translation, but once you have reached peaks in understanding you dont need uniform, or even your body anymore. You only need Love. We are given tools by guru to help us attain spiritual greatness.
Also please take into consideration when and what was happening to our people when G.G.Singh founded Sikhism. Our uniform was based very much on that time period. I willingly wear the uniform for guru, but i also know it is not needed. We were dressed as soldiers.. this has put some ppl into soldier mentality, creating a very aggressive attitude. It is all love brother.
if you believe that the soldier uniform can bring soldier mentality do you not agree the soldier mentality is needed to fight th panj chor, the fact if the matter is that it was satguru maharaj's hukam, it is not upto me 2 decide that i feel i am spiritually educated enough and i do so much abhyaas that i can now give up my kakkar, they all stand for something. if you feel you high enough to abandon them, you are lost in ahankaar which then just fails your spiritual education.
I only wish to give up my body. Panj chor are evils that can be defeated by doing meditation, service to all, believing in One God and Humanity, loving God and opening yourself up to Gods Love. My point is- What you look like, or how you dress has nothing to do with Love. For those who were born into uniform - no doubt you are lucky.( I do belive this is the true path to experience being a sikh ) - I am speaking about those who were not, or those who cut (for whatever reason)
o, well then people who cut their hair are not bad, they may not be gursikh, but they arent bad people, dont look down upon them. it isnt about who is spiritual high or low, it is about sikhi, if you are sikh you must attain bani bana, if you dont have bana, you are not sikh and that is final. to serve the guru is to live by his will, that is his will.
Just remember that not everyone has lived the special life you may live. People have different callings in life, and you must bring everyone in. There are so many people who barely believe in god, but come to the gurdwara b/c their mom or dad goes. For them -they consider themselves Sikh b/c it is a way identify them selves, its the thread they are hanging on by. You are the example of what they will be once they are ready to choose B&B.
So set pride aside of what you are in comparison to what those people - in your eyes- claim to be. Those other "half-half sikhs" Need the most love- You are the example. Religion is a path one takes. As long as you have chosen one, you should be able to claim the path you are taking right?
again there is no half sikhs, you either are or you not, no1 is forcing you on the path, if you choose, then you are most welcome, im not saying people who dont keep hair are ne lower than me or you or ne1 else, im sating they are not gursikh.

there should be no seperation at all, nothing at all. we dont claim ourselves to be anything, we are either sikh or not, if you are sikh you are, if your not you are not, if you cut your hair but are on the path, your aim should be to follow with bana as well as bani, as bana comes from bani. Sorry if i offended you in any way but i was just trying to point out that kes do have something to do with sikhi, bana is apart but not the end.
@sweetooob They are not as commited as those with hair. A mona sikh can pretend he is a hindhu or a muslim when the facists come to hunt him down. But a Gursikh can not hide his identity and must fight for what is right.
What most ppl seem to always overlook is oneness. There is no separation between earth, man, and God. There is only one identity, and there is only one faith. LOVE. Even the the youngest Bai Sab knows that we are born in a uniform- our body - and much like clothes, it is material- something we do not need. It is what is inside that only matters. Guru Nanak Dev Ji had not written anything in the Dasam Granth about Guru Ram Singh, in fact the Dasam Granth was written in the time of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in which there is none of Guru Nanak's bani. As for Guru Gobind Singh Ji writing about returning..can you give the ang? Guru Ji did not write in the Guru Granth Sahib at all. I am not arguing, I am trying to help my confused brothers.

The line Dandaut Bandhan Anik Baar Sarab Kala Samrath, Dolan Te Rakho Prabhu, Nanak De Kar Hath is not by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and is not from the Dasam Granth and is not followed by Jaahe Kul Te...It is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji on panna 256 of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Please give details of this quote you have provided as I have never heard, nor seen it in either Guru Granth Sahib or Dasam Granth.

@kukajatt1 If you are a Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh then I assume that you follow the Akal Takht, which was set up by his Grandfather, Guru Hargobind Sahib. That same Akal Takht has issued a hukamnama saying that no Gurdwara is permitted to allow Namdharis to perform Kirtan in Gurdwaras.

@kukajatt1 You seem to be reading it wrong. The akal takht, which was started by Guru Hargobind Sahib as the governing body of our faith, issued a hukamnama which stated that no Namdhari is allowed to recite kirtan in any gurdwara. According to Guru Hargobind Sahib, the word of the Akal Takht is the rule of Sikhi. They do not regard Namdharis as members of the Sikh panth. The are held in the same regard as radhaswamis, nirankaris and other faiths that worship human gurus.

@kukajatt1 The akal takht is the same one created by Guru Ji and stands in the same location. The only difference is that now the governing Guru is the Guru Granth Sahib. The fact that you have proudly called yourself a Jatt and stated your family heritage proves that you cannot be a Sikh. Guru Nanak Dev Ji states jaanahu joth na pooshahu jaathee aagai jaath na he || on Panna 349. The simple translation is there is no caste after death, so forget about it and recognise the light of God in all.

It is claimed Jesus was born to a virgin mother, would that make him a Guru? I have read up on history, maybe I am not as well versed on Gurbani and history as you, but from what I have read, all Gurus up to the final eternal Guru Granth Sahib were born to a Mother and a Father. Does that make them lesser Guru's in your eyes?

@kukajatt1 Guru Angad Dev Ji states on Panna 1239, Jeha Cheeri Likhiya Teha Hukam Kamaae, Ghalai Aavai Naanaka Sadhi Uthi Jaaye. As the Lord issues his command, it is followed. When we are sent, we come, when we are called, we return. Guru Ji states, when one dies, he is meant to die, it is Guru's Hukam. If proof of Guruship was needed, Guru Arjan Dev Ji would not have needed to give up his life for the Hindus, and Guru Gobind Singh would not have had to sacrifice his children and parents.

A Sikh isn't a Sikh by name...its by the way they live their lives and the way they present themselves...not in front of other people but in front of their guru, the Guru Granth Sahib.

@navjatt92 I have spent a lot of time with namdharis, and do not have any personal problem with them. What irritates me is the lack of respect that I see of the Guru Granth Sahib. I have seen situations where Guru Ji is placed on a low pedestal and a huge photo of Satguru Jagjit Singh is placed in the room with people ignoring the Guru Granth Sahib and just bowing to the photo instead.

And for namdharis to not bow down to Satguru Jagjit Singh is disrespectful as they believe the Guruship carried on. So we both hav a problem and 1 we feel we just cant forget bou. Personaly I think it shud b the same as ive seen in Guru Ravidass Gurdwaras where a foto of Guru Ravidass is placed directly behind GGS. This way you show ur respect for both. What do u think?

The purpose of mythology is not to be a historical record but to be inspirational, and that is their only purpose. The stories of Chandi and other gods and goddesses ect... are only there to serve as inspiration. You know reading the negative comments below just makes me sad at the state we sikhs are in; the same sikhs who proclaim universal togetherness, who treat all religion alike, who respect all ways of life; yet people are still being negative below!!
anyway - the namdharis are stubborn on the issue of living guru's; that's their fault. However we sikhs are also stubborn on a lot of their ways of life too. Surely Guru Nanak had not intended to follow the Abrahamical religions in this context?

I dint know about namdharis follow gurus other than 10 gurus and finally Guru Granth sahib ji because such a classical kirtan they perform but again there are risks involved in this sect. Their belief in continuation of Gurus may, in fact, change the bani. There are no Gurus after Sri Guru Granth sahib ji for sikh panth.

One of the 5 K's is Kesh (uncut hair) for an amritdhari Sikh. So basically being a Sikh DOES have somthing to do with hair. Rest of the 5 K's can be consider part of a Sikh's uniform therefore again, being a Sikh DOES have to do with uniform. I am not sure what you consider being spiritual but to be a Sikh keeping you hair is very important.

I wear the full uniform, but I am at a much greater understanding than most Sikhs. You see, sikhism is very young - and spiritually so are many of its followers. In the end it is just you and Guru. You can get lost in translation, but once you have reached peaks in understanding you dont need uniform, or even your body anymore. You only need Love. We are given tools by guru to help us attain spiritual greatness.

Also please take into consideration when and what was happening to our people when G.G.Singh founded Sikhism. Our uniform was based very much on that time period. I willingly wear the uniform for guru, but i also know it is not needed. We were dressed as soldiers.. this has put some ppl into soldier mentality, creating a very aggressive attitude. It is all love brother.

if you believe that the soldier uniform can bring soldier mentality do you not agree the soldier mentality is needed to fight th panj chor, the fact if the matter is that it was satguru maharaj's hukam, it is not upto me 2 decide that i feel i am spiritually educated enough and i do so much abhyaas that i can now give up my kakkar, they all stand for something. if you feel you high enough to abandon them, you are lost in ahankaar which then just fails your spiritual education.

I only wish to give up my body. Panj chor are evils that can be defeated by doing meditation, service to all, believing in One God and Humanity, loving God and opening yourself up to Gods Love. My point is- What you look like, or how you dress has nothing to do with Love. For those who were born into uniform - no doubt you are lucky.( I do belive this is the true path to experience being a sikh ) - I am speaking about those who were not, or those who cut (for whatever reason)

o, well then people who cut their hair are not bad, they may not be gursikh, but they arent bad people, dont look down upon them. it isnt about who is spiritual high or low, it is about sikhi, if you are sikh you must attain bani bana, if you dont have bana, you are not sikh and that is final. to serve the guru is to live by his will, that is his will.

Just remember that not everyone has lived the special life you may live. People have different callings in life, and you must bring everyone in. There are so many people who barely believe in god, but come to the gurdwara b/c their mom or dad goes. For them -they consider themselves Sikh b/c it is a way identify them selves, its the thread they are hanging on by. You are the example of what they will be once they are ready to choose B&B.

there should be no seperation at all, nothing at all. we dont claim ourselves to be anything, we are either sikh or not, if you are sikh you are, if your not you are not, if you cut your hair but are on the path, your aim should be to follow with bana as well as bani, as bana comes from bani. Guru Nanak Dev Ji had not written anything in the Dasam Granth about Guru Ram Singh, in fact the Dasam Granth was written in the time of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in which there is none of Guru Nanak's bani. The line Dandaut Bandhan Anik Baar Sarab Kala Samrath, Dolan Te Rakho Prabhu, Nanak De Kar Hath is not by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and is not from the Dasam Granth and is not followed by Jaahe Kul Te...It is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji on panna 256 of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Please give details of this quote you have provided as I have never heard, nor seen it in either Guru Granth Sahib or Dasam Granth.

@kukajatt1 If you are a Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh then I assume that you follow the Akal Takht, which was set up by his Grandfather, Guru Hargobind Sahib. That same Akal Takht has issued a hukamnama saying that no Gurdwara is permitted to allow Namdharis to perform Kirtan in Gurdwaras.

@kukajatt1 You seem to be reading it wrong. The akal takht, which was started by Guru Hargobind Sahib as the governing body of our faith, issued a hukamnama which stated that no Namdhari is allowed to recite kirtan in any gurdwara. According to Guru Hargobind Sahib, the word of the Akal Takht is the rule of Sikhi. They do not regard Namdharis as members of the Sikh panth. The are held in the same regard as radhaswamis, nirankaris and other faiths that worship human gurus.

@kukajatt1 The akal takht is the same one created by Guru Ji and stands in the same location. The only difference is that now the governing Guru is the Guru Granth Sahib. The fact that you have proudly called yourself a Jatt and stated your family heritage proves that you cannot be a Sikh. Guru Nanak Dev Ji states jaanahu joth na pooshahu jaathee aagai jaath na he || on Panna 349. The simple translation is there is no caste after death, so forget about it and recognise the light of God in all.

@kukajatt1 You can call him whatever you want, but it is also claimed that Sai Baba from Shirdi had no birth. Would that also make him a Guru? It is claimed Jesus was born to a virgin mother, would that make him a Guru? I have read up on history, maybe I am not as well versed on Gurbani and history as you, but from what I have read, all Gurus up to the final eternal Guru Granth Sahib were born to a Mother and a Father. Does that make them lesser Guru's in your eyes?

@randomsingh1 satguru ram singh ji brought alot of dead people back to alive...one incident happend to a muslim mom's child who was 5 years old a horse jumped on him in the mela and was dead on the spot..its a long story i ma makeit shot..she called satguru ram singh ji and said if u rly r a guru then bring him back to life..then satguru ram singh ji placed his right thumb foot on his fore head and told him to get up...and he got up right away..thr r alot of sakhis but nun would matter to u ppl

@kukajatt1 Guru Angad Dev Ji states on Panna 1239, Jeha Cheeri Likhiya Teha Hukam Kamaae, Ghalai Aavai Naanaka Sadhi Uthi Jaaye. As the Lord issues his command, it is followed. When we are sent, we come, when we are called, we return. Guru Ji states, when one dies, he is meant to die, it is Guru's Hukam. If proof of Guruship was needed, Guru Arjan Dev Ji would not have needed to give up his life for the Hindus, and Guru Gobind Singh would not have had to sacrifice his children and parents.

@randomsingh1 and what you guys belive is that guru gobind singh ji died when he didnt he lived for years after tht he kept his name has ajaypal singh..and guru ram singh came and started the khalsa panth again which was called santh khalsa gave a new name has NAMDHARI guru ram singh made panj pyaare just like guru gobind singh ji did and also gave amrit to women's..and gave all the rights to women by not bein a sati..NAMDHARI'S are just keeping the sikhi alive..

@kukajatt1 Erm...the 'them' you talk of exist in every religion...I've met namdharis who eat, drink and trim. I think you have misunderstood. A Sikh isn't a Sikh by name...its by the way they live their lives and the way they present themselves...not in front of other people but in front of their guru, the Guru Granth Sahib.

I have heard that Namdharis are very religious ppl and are firmly set in their way of life which is more or less the Sikh way of life, no?? Their story that the Guruship carried on could well be true, who knows?? No one does. Its about your faith and what you believe. @navjatt92 I have spent a lot of time with namdharis, and do not have any personal problem with them. What irritates me is the lack of respect that I see of the Guru Granth Sahib. I have seen situations where Guru Ji is placed on a low pedestal and a huge photo of Satguru Jagjit Singh is placed in the room with people ignoring the Guru Granth Sahib and just bowing to the photo instead.

@randomsingh1 I see where you are coming from. And yes that is going to seen as disrespect by orthodox Sikhs such as ourselves. And for namdharis to not bow down to Satguru Jagjit Singh is disrespectful as they believe the Guruship carried on. So we both hav a problem and 1 we feel we just cant forget bou. Personaly I think it shud b the same as ive seen in Guru Ravidass Gurdwaras where a foto of Guru Ravidass is placed directly behind GGS. This way you show ur respect for both. What do u think?

However, my question is, why does one Guru have to return is there is already one? Never happened in Sikhi before...and for some reason i find it difficult to accept that Guru Gobind Singh had to run away scared and change his name...and that too to Ajaypal Singh? Farcical stories much? I thought so...

please describe what you mean by you people. if you meant a true khalsa, i agree, a khalsa does not eat meat or cut their hair, they treat all 5 kakkaar as an ang of their body. We do not believe that pages r god, we believe as khalsa that shabad is the guru, bani is the guru. But please clarify what you mean by 'you people'.

u say dat, n yet namdhari panth follows Sikhi mor den any other. they follow word for word the Hukam of all our Gurus, liv a pure life, lyk no other. condeming the namdhari panth is wrong cuz dey r the onli ones following Sikhi, how it is truly ment to be followed, wid purity. the namdhari panth wer da 1st to stand against da british, n da non cooperation movement credited to ghadi actuali started wid the namdharis 60yrs b4 him, but they wer met wid massacres. they are saint soldiers so =Sikh

@JasSingh88 Although namdharis have preserved sur, raag and taal, they have not preserved bani. 'Sabh Sikhan Ko Hukam Hai, Guru Manyo Granth' If namdharis cannot follow this one line of bani by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, they do not deserve to be called Sikhs.

we sing in proper RAAGs....what actually made by Dhan Guru NANAK dev ji and moreover Guru Nanak Dev ji himself created all our baani in raags when HIs holiness created.
So this is a proper way to sing our Baani.
