(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT) If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.
What kind of lunatic would make a rape victim marry her attacker? Answer: God.
Judging from the accent, that caller is originally from the Caribbean island of Barbados. If only all other air-headed, christians from Barbados could be owned like this.
This caller is a classic example and victim of the mental programming accomplished by his former enslavers and colonizers. He is yet another neo-colonial, christianized, zombie with no sense of history nor critical faculty, ever ready to spew unsubstantiated drivel to defend his former slave master's point of view. Pathetic.
@yvranx Responses need to get interrupted, when they are bad from the get go. Its called Correcting. If a child is reaching out for an open flame, you are not going to wait till he touches it.
@NathanWubs That's called "rude" and "begging the question". How on earth could you have a discussion about a controversial topic if you expect people to interrupt the opponent everytime they think the opponent is wrong?
It just can't work, and Matt knows this. He wouldn't suggest such behaviour in a symmetrical situation, ie. if he does not have the Power Of The Button.
@yvranx I suggest, you look at several shows of the atheist experience. And I mean about 20 episodes of them. Then you probably will understand things a bit better. Also some of the older ones, which are longer. After all their show has been reduced to a hour.
@yvranx "Jeff and Matt are the only ones constantly and rudely interrupting callers, the others don't do it. So it IS possibly to not be rude."
I see it this way, when an argument starts with a false assumption it is not rude to point this out to try to gain common ground. I can agree that patience is a virtue but considering it is their show I would guess Jeff and Mat is less patience and tries to cut off dead ends because they also want to give air to as many callers as possible.
@yvranx Only ever seen them cut off a caller if the caller makes a point that needs to be countered. This is because it is a common tactic of theists to try to fire off half a dozen or more different points to sound authoratative and not allow atheists to counter the points one by one.
Cutting off after the first point is a perfectly legitimate tactic to allow the atheist counterpoint to be made.
@jomen112 "I see it this way, when an argument starts with a false assumption it is not rude to point this out to try to gain common ground."
How would that work out if both participants would have a button?
I can think of only one topic where I disagree with Matt and Jeff, but I would not call and put up with their rudeness to discuss it with them. So I think they are losing interesting callers over this, and not in a good way.
I also think it is part of charm with the show that they have different personalities, because of their different ways it give a greater spectrum and broader view on their responses. If we all was equal the world would soon become very boring.
@yvranx "but from time to time they cut of something that might turn out to be a good point. It's counterproductive."
You are proposing a speculation about things that cannot be proven. I would says they discussed these matter so many time that they do recognize the pattern of arguing - and the diversity isn't as big as one may thing - and they cut it off because they already heard it way to many times before.
I think you give more credits to the callers than they actual may deserve.
@jomen112 "You are proposing a speculation about things that cannot be proven."
You are trying hard to avoid a cognitive dissonance. I'm not talking at all about the stuff the theists say, but about rudeness and discussion economics.
How do you like religious talk shows where atheists are treated like this? Would their rudeness be a reason to consider theism, or just their arguments?
I became an atheist when I read the Bible. it's so full of crap and contradictoins. I didnt get very fer before i was like "holy crap this is bullshit"
@2011rosarot that is true, but the problem the thiest side has in that argument is that a supposed "fanatical" thiest is a total believer in every aspect of the bible, word for word! now,if you do not except 100% the bibles content then how can you say you believe in the bible?you cant pick and choose the best bits?it makes no sense?if it the word of god, then thats what it is?warts and all! where as "fanatical" athiesm does not pick and choose in any manner, one deals with facts the other is fical!
People should stop supporting religion and start support, advancement in science and medicine and groups that really do try to better country's by not just throwing aid at them.
If you hold a belief in god or and afterlife thats idiotic, now if you support science and things that helped push mankind forwards but say something like "I know there isn't an afterlife but I hope there is one, so people can do the things they could or miss out on in life" thats fine.
one of the reason I like Atheist vs. Christian video is I want to see if there is anyone that can defend bible which I personally consider indefensible by logic. Unfortunately after viewing hundreds of them, either from Atheists or Christians, there is no one can defend bible as a whole. They either dodge the question or change topics or impose a misleading definition or just call ppl's names and attack the personality of opponents.
@KuhoinX So true. I have debated four of them personally on Youtube through personal messages. None of them have a good argument. They all resort to appeals to emotion, acceptance on faith, or butchering of science.
@KuhoinX Yes your are correct, this whole show is rigged. There is no way anyone can make a good sensible argument about their religion. Is like trying to prove, like Aron said, that Godzilla is real. It is a waste of time for all these theists to even try. Still, I don't know why, but I enjoy watching their futile attempts.
@omarct this show is no way shape or form "rigged". Its just that it seems that way, because of a few reasons. First NONE of these theist callers can EVER make a decent argument towards their side of the debate because its based on total crap. Second they always answer all the callers questions based on scientific/mathematical/logical fact. Show me any instance in that this show is rigged *seriously i will give you as long as you need*.
@MrSumbody69 every single caller is given a FAIR chance at proving his or her statement and EVERY single time they dance around the question, throw out analogies, and counter question *which are all forms of dodging the original because they CANNOT prove their claim*. So if you ask me, i personally think theists rigged themselves to never be able to understand the logic behind the hosts questions.
@MrSumbody69 You are as stupid as the callers in this show. I used rigged as a sort of metaphor to say that they could never lose the argument. I even went ahead and explained why they couldn't lose with the Godzilla example. If you are young then you need to say less and listen more, if you are already a grown "man" then I pity your ignorance and stupidity.
@KuhoinX Exactly, well said! I'm currently debating a Christian who LOVES to dodge my questions, change the subject, and get terminology all wrong. It's maddening.
@SubconsciousGatherer There are two kinds of Christians; those that debate and those that don't. An intelligent rational Christian will not debate his or hers religion because they understand it isn't defensible. However, someone that can debate is usually going to be a little nuts and won't accept any good argument you might have because if they did they wouldn't be theist. I have always been a reasonable person and the one time I debated an atheist and lost, I stopped being a theist.
"Christians don't understand the character of God"
every christian who i've ever talked to about christian religion has said this, and their definitions of "true" christianity have all been disagreement with each other from person to person.
I have already explained what I mean by "radical atheists". I mean people who think that everybody who doesn't agree with them 100 % is a stupid and bad person. :D
@2011rosarot radical atheists sounds like any run of the mill christian or muslim or any other religious belief that revolves around a "almighty creator/s". This is based on all my personal experiences and just about every youtube video i have seen based on this *which is quite a bit of them*
@MrSumbody69, becoming "radical" or a fanatic has little or nothing to do with a belief in God or lack of belief in God. It is simply a character trait that some people have. have. For instance, there are non-smokers and then there are fanatical non-smokers....I am sure you understand the difference. Fanatical non-smokers are annoying preacher types. LOL
I don't understand why it should matter to us that SOME crazy Christians want to believe that everybody who isn't like them will be tortured in hell forever after death. I have never in my entire life heard any Christian say that. Honestly, I have not! (However, I don't live in America.) So, the idea all Christians think like that is completely and utterly wrong.
It's a central tenet of Christianity, and the reason Christians on the whole try to bring non-Christians to the faith, to save us from damnation. Whether they wish it on us to be tortured forever is irrelevent, they knowingly worship a god who would do that to someone no matter how good a person they were in life, and then have the nerve to say that their god is a good god and is the basis for morality.
@TheTexanCanadian, Christians of the type that you just described are definitely messed up. LOL But do you really believe that all people in the world who say that they believe in God are just like American fundamentalist Christians ? ? ?
That depends on the god. If a person says they are Christian, it is not fundamentalism to accept a core doctrine of Christianity, such as needing salvation from Christ to escape damnation, or that original sin is the reason for damnation in the first place. I would argue that if someone rejects those tenets they do not actually fit the definition of a Christian, as that is exactly what Christ supposedly preached.
@TheTexanCanadian, well....then about 90 % of the Christians here in the West and North of Europe are not real Christians at all. :D Nonetheless, they are officially called "Christians" and they usually say that they believe in some kind of god....of, course, most of them never go to church. LOL
The sad fact is, Christianity as was explained in the bible is very much at odds with peaceful coexistence with our fellow human beings. Secular laws and morality have slowly whittled away at the bible's rules on how to live your life... no one in their right mind would even think of killing a neighbor for working on the Sabbath, for example, and Europe is (unsurprisingly) just ahead of the US in abandoning the bible altogether.
@TheTexanCanadian, although people in this part of Europe normally don't take the bible very seriously (and they definitely don't take it literally), they are usually not atheists. Usually they are very liberal Christians, or agnostics, or they are interested in all kinds of other religions like Buddhism. Apart from that, however, (almost) NOBODY here cares whether his friends, co-workers, etc. believe in God or not. This topic is just never discussed.
@2011rosarot All christians USED to think just that. in fact that is fundamental to the three major abrahamic religions. it just became unpopular over time, and relatively recently at that.
@hardinmichael1981, yes, you are right. Fortunately, the vast mojority of people are not these types of Christians anymore. (At least not in this part of Europe. I can't speak for the USA.). I think that radical atheism only makes sense in opposition to fundamentalist Christians who really take the bible literally. Radical atheists and radical Christians belong together like two sides of a coin. That's how I see it.
@2011rosarot - please explain 'radical Atheism'. Because to me (an Atheist) describing someone as a radical Atheist is akin to labelling someone a professional non-player of chess or a rabid non-collector of stamps or a chronic non-smoker.
@freakystyley4000, by "radical atheists" I mean a person who thinks that it is 100 % certain that no type of god can possibly exist....and who thinks that everybody who doesn't agree with him 100 % is a bad and stupid person. :D
@freakystyley4000 I'm a chronic non-chess player. I know it’s difficult being one, but that’s just who I am. I’m sure others wonder what’s wrong with me. Maybe someday I'll start playing chess, but for now, the daily habit of non-playing has really got me under its spell. Sometimes I think I may never be able to free myself from not playing chess. People have shoved chess boards at me, and still I refuse. They even mail me chess pieces, but I just can’t bring myself to play.
@politicoochie09 well, I hope that you are not a radical non-chess player. LOL You are a radical/fanatical non-chess player, if you tell people who DO like to play chess that they are stupid and inferior, because they enjoy playing chess. Also, you are a radical non-chess player, if you have a stance of moral superiority towards chess-players and if you walk around telling everybody how horrible playing chess is. :D
@2011rosarot Religion deserves no respect. As long as it takes the stand on issues of the world with its unfounded claims, I will take the stand against it and ridicule it. If they can make others feel inferior, then I will make them feel inferior.
@hislord1 Taking a stand against unfounded or dangerous religious claims is necessary and a good thing, of course. However, that is not the same as being a "fanatical" atheist. Fanatical atheists are just like fanatical vegetarians. They can't stop preaching and condemning. Atheists or vegetarians who become fanatical in this sense are not helping their cause at all.
@2011rosarot But sometimes bashing believers is just fun! It’s sort of like the fun Christians had when they poured molten lead into the orifices of non-believers during the Inquisition,…. but without all the dead bodies.
@2011rosarot I am a "fanatical atheist" because a large proportion of our population comprises of fanatical theists, who constantly make decisions that affect me. I will condemn to my hearts content until they stop condemning. The moment they keep their wishful thinking to themselves, I will stop calling them out or insulting them. It is frankly not a hard idea to grasp.
@hislord1 Your comment proves that my initial thesis is correct: fanatical atheism only makes sense in opposition to fanatical theism. They are like two sides of a coin and belong together. .
@hislord1 continued: But some people here think that there can't possibly be something like "fanatical" atheism....and I tried to explain to them what I mean by "fanatical"....that's all. :D
@2011rosarot you cant be fanatical in non-belief of something. Id like to dump every religious person in the ocean and then enjoy the peace it would bring, thats not fanatical its like wishing to dispose of garbage
@2011rosarot No, it doesn't prove that it is correct. I only resorted to using a label you gave, for better clarification. That, however, does not mean I acknowledge that. There simply isn't fanatical atheism. There's the truth, and a passion for it. If you're referring to the passion of the truth as fanatical atheism, then, I agree that fanatical atheism exists.
@2011rosarot wrong, if fanatical atheists like me had our wish thered be absolutely no debate about religion because all religoius people would be forced to admit theres no proof of God and that thier beliefs are dangerous and unfounded. Admit it, theres no God and you have no real evidence that there is one and in your heart you know ther isnt
Your claim makes no sense; are there "radical non-believers in Santa Claus" versus "radical believers in Santa Claus", or are there just people who can recognize reality versus those who can't? In EVERY other sphere of discussion, the people making a claim of the existence of something bear the burden of proving it, so why should this be any different?
That's what is so crazy about Black ppl seeing the Bible as the word of God. Not once, does it ever condemn the institution of slavery. It instructs slaves on how they should act toward their owners, and how owners should treat their slaves, but never does it label slavery as inhumane nor the possession of other humans as wrong or sinful. As a Black man I especially find the Book offensive. When I was a kid I'd ask questions my parents couldn't answer and today they STILL can't
@MadHatter34784 That's because most of these callers are from the MidWest/Bible Belt area, their slow drawl and inability to form complete thoughts and sentences definitely doesn't help their case. But then again, the ones who can at least do that- don't do much in the way of presenting plausible arguments either.
I love these guys. Itelligent, reasonable and polite. I love how every argument is prepared, well though out and above all backed up by passages from the Bible, which gives major problems for people who are unused to 'non believers' who actually know what the Bible says, and quote the contradictions that are written within.
That was a smack down from the top rope. Game Set and Match. I would love for some aspects of religion to be true but warming up to religion is corrupting. My god told me "I Shall not SUPPORT pedophiliac cults". Thus I refused to be "anointed" by a pervert priest. NEXXXTTTT!!!
How would you people respond to this: God don't show himself to people because it is up to everyone to believe him, through the Bible. That's why "he" wrote that book, it is the pathway to truth, but only if man himself believes it. It's an opportunity, not a innate privilege, to go to heaven?
I'm an atheist myself, but I don't know how I would have responded.
I am not going to believe without evidence. I will also not start to believe to just see evidence. This is called confirmation bias, and skews your observations. So if there is a god and he will not shown me that he exist before I believe then so be it. I still wonder why he never did showed himself to me when I was a believer though.
beliefs are not facts, they are opinions. GEEZ religious people!!! I'm not even atheist but it's so annoying to see most religious people worse than people who aren't religious. Even if there was a god, he wouldn't wanna baby all of you guys, he'd want u to do things yourself. you can't pray for something and do nothing yourself in order to get what u hoped for. These guys have proof because they know facts (things that don't change every five seconds like religion reasoning).
Too bad that they skipped the part where the Bible says that you can beat up your slaves to punish them, as long as they heal and can go back to work in a day or two.
This scene from Mass Effect 1 played out in my head. A preaching alien won't shut the fuck up about his gods in a public area.; C-SEC Officer- "That Hanar refuses to listen to reason. Why can't it act in an orderly and lawful manner?" Nin Jah Shepard (Yes, that's his name)- "Because it's a big, stupid jellyfish." (Uh-huh...I'm stoned too.)
@JoshDec7 moral values are generally justified on the consequences it has regarding to what kind of society people want to live in. Using 'holy morality' is at best a way not to justify ones morals and in worst case a justification of immoral behavior.
@JoshDec7 They justify (and got) their morals the same way you do/did. Someone presented to you a set of morals and you decided they were a good idea.
I wish i could be free of religion, of this mess that i am in, sometimes i feel like i dont believe in anything, other days i feel guilty about it, it sucks living in hiding for fear of relection or divorce, UGH i hate religion so much!!
@chinopisces :) Actually I talked to someone from the congregation i go to, and now tht i did I feel so RELIEVED, I don't feel guilty about it, I am so free so say that I DON'T BELIEVE IN GOD, or the bible or any fake religion. Of course my family doesn't know or my spouse, but I hope that with time I can tell them :)
@MegaNefesh: I felt 'guilty' for a long time when I realized I was atheist. I was a teenager, and my immediate family went to church on Sundays. One of those Sundays, I told my father that I did not want to go. He was clearly upset, then was even more upset that my sisters agreed with me right after I announced it. He left and went to church without us, and never asked us to go again.
Interestingly, nowadays he doesn't go to church anymore. He sits at home and watches megachurch TV on Sundays.
@MegaNefesh Just try to find answers to all of your questions, and see what people in different religions think about it and what atheists think, and then make your own judgment. I used to feel guilty about questioning things too, that's what religion teaches you in most cases.
When I was in high school I always challenged and argued with people about the existence of a god. And they made me feel like I was just this depressed, pessimistic, misguided kid. For a long time despite my best efforts they made me question if that was true....today I realize I was just smarter then them all.
@ChipArgyle second part of your statement is absolutely correct. i cant believe some people are still lobbing to get rid of gay rights and woman rights (laws vs abortion). this is the 21 century and no way in HELL should we BE THIS STUPID STILL!
i cant wait till religion fads out of reality and becomes nothing but a fun story you make into bad hollywood movies. history proves this correct (see greak mythology)
@ChipArgyle LOL. Heretic here, and whereas I admit that I hate atheism, I can agree 100% that there are LOADS of contradictions in the Bible. Typical Christians make everything worse for the rest of us.
@ChipArgyle Sure there is a reason Chip....it's not a very good reason, or a reasonable reason :) , but it is still a reason.
It's really quite simple. Here goes....
They are terrified. They are so ingrained with this concept of a God who loves them , cares for them, protects them, wants to let them live forever so they don't have to even fear Death, even while all these things continue to be proven wrong by the fact that theists starve, suffer and die every day.
@ChipArgyle Since these religious concepts are so embedded in their whole notion of self-worth, without the belief they would have to face the world with open eyes and open minds and accept the responsibility for making their world better.
That is the main reason why they will use circular logic, self-delusion, equivocations, rationalizations because it's akin to the struggles of drowning men holding onto whateve can keep them afloat.
To continue the analogy...
They struggle until they realize they don't HAVE to struggle to stay afloat, they just need to relax, stay calm, and maybe do a little treading every now and then, and look at the lifeboats floating all around them if they would only see.
Stranger, the word is proselytize and you are wrong. Atheists don't proselytize, because "Atheism" is not a religion that people can choose to join, but "a-theists" is just a label for people who are not theists.
Trying to proselytize for atheism would be like trying to get more non-smokers by not handing out free cigarettes. Atheism has no free bonus gifts. The only benefit of atheism is that it doesn't have all the disadvantages of theism, so atheists can only educate and inform.
@TheAtheistExperience, Thank you for correcting my faulty English. I am German. :) In my opinion, some atheists do "proselytize" because they try to convince religious people that they should give up their belief in God. But, apart from that, atheists don't really have anything interesting or helpful to offer, as far as I can see. They don't know how to be happier, better humans...or do they? All that atheism seems to offer is a smug sense of (intellectual) superiority.
@GoblinXXX, No, not "as opposed to" but exactly the same! SOME atheists have exactly the same smug sense of (moral) superiority that SOME theists have. Isn't it true to say that some atheists think that they are the good ones and that those who don't think like them are the "evil" (stupid/inferior) ones? That is exactly the same way in which some religious people think.
@2011rosarot The biggest difference is that atheism is a rejection of a belief system- It makes no "promises" nor offers any moral guidelines-- And yet, believers are prone to the same failings. So what good does religion do, if the religious are no better?
@GoblinXXX I am not saying that religion is good. But atheism in itself is not good, either. It is irrelevant whether a person is a theist or an atheist because the only thing that matters is his character. A kind, accepting, friendly person makes this world a better place. A judgemental, self-righteous, hostile person makes this world a worse place. Do you think a self-righteous Christian will become kind and accepting when he becomes an atheist?
@2011rosarot Atheism makes no claims to be "good"-- Religion DOES. And if someone is self-righteous BECAUSE he's a Christian, he probably WILL become less so upon leaving the faith.
@GoblinXXX, Atheism makes no claims to be good? If that is so, I applaud atheism. I got the impression that some atheists think that atheism turns them into morally and intellectually superior human beings.
- "Atheism makes no claims to be good? . . . I got the impression that some atheists think that atheism turns them into morally and intellectually superior human beings."
Atheism is not a religion and it's not a person, so atheism doesn't claim or do anything. The problem is that faith-based religions produce brainwashed sheep with irrational beliefs, while some religions also teach immoral ideas. Many atheists promote rational thinking without all that religious indoctrination.
@2011rosarot Atheism makes no claims other than "I don't believe God or Gods exist". That's the sole claim of atheism. Individual atheists may differ on the rest of their attitudes or beliefs, but the only thing...the ONLY thing all atheists share is that we don't believe God exists.
@alphaenemy, you wrote "The ONLY thing all atheists share is that we don't believe God exists". Yes, I understand.
But it is also true to say that the only thing that theist have in common is that they believe in God...apart from that they are all different. For instance, here in Europe, Christians who take the bible literally are very rare. Here, most Christians go to church only for Christmas. And they have no problem at all with accepting the theroy of evolution, etc.
@alphaenemy, What do those Christians mean when they talk about "values"? Could you give me an example? A value is obiviously not the same as a belief. Do they mean values like helping others, patience, kindness, respect etc.? I think that most people (Christians, non-Christians, agnostics and atheists alike) value these traits.
@alphaenemy What do those Christians mean when they talk about "values"? Could you give me an example? A value is obiviously not the same as a belief. Do they mean values like helping others, patience, kindness, respect etc.? I think that most people (Christians, non-Christians, agnostics and atheists alike) value these traits.
That depends on how you define "good." Is it "good" to accept that the world is not flat, as was once thought?
"A judgemental, self-righteous, hostile person makes this world a worse place."
That's very naive. There's nothing wrong with being any of those qualities, they do not represent harm to others. People can be rude and mean without being dangerous to others. What DOES cause harm is choosing to act on willful ignorance.
@TheTexanCanadian, Rude and mean people make this world a worse place even if they never become physically dangerous. Or do you enjoy having rude and mean people as family members or co-workers? A person's character is more important than ANYTHING else about him/her. It is bizarre that some Christians and atheists think that a person's belief in God (or the lack of this belief ! ) is more important than his character.
And as for how rude and mean people make the world a worse place, sometimes what is interpreted as rude and mean is just the honest truth. It's a mistake to always expect the world to be a happy place, it is not a mistake to expect it to be a decent place filled with intelligent people who accept reality and don't condemn others to an eternity of torment for disagreeing. The worst thing an intelligent atheist wishes on a theist is that they accept reality.
@TheTexanCanadian, I don't expect the world to be anything other than it is. I accept reality. But I definitely prefer to be around nice and friendly people rather than rude and nasty people. There is no need to become rude, mean and nasty in order to state one's opinion or to be honest. Yes, some Christians are very judgmental and condemning. But so are some atheists.
You cannot equivocate Christian and atheist condemnation, as for a Christian (or Muslim) to condemn you is for them to say you're going to burn in a lake of fire and be tortured forever, and for an atheist to condemn is for them to say "You're stupid." You prefer to live in harmony, fine, so do I. But don't make this about the delivery of a message when it's really about the message itself.
@TheAtheistExperience, Continued: I understand that being a theists has some disadvantages and has a negative effect on SOME people. I do, however, know some religious people here in Germany who are much more tolerant and friendly than some atheists. I think, the problem is not religion, but fanaticism of any kind.
Even if i knew that god was real, there would be no way in hell that I'd worship such a vindictive, malevolent and cruel god. So I'd gladly say I'd rather burn in hell then bend my knee to a monster.
@hannahmillable "He isnt a monster, he is a very loving God" yeah he sounds really lovely, i especially love the parts where he knowingly sacrifices children and says that its ok to have slaves (hell I'm even allowed to beat them to death and have no punishments at all). In all seriousness you're god sounds malevolent, so I'm going to let you try explaining the reasons he lets such things happen. The fact is he only loves those who serve him, leaving others to rot.
this show host has very good argument and the main argument is that there is some very evil shit going on in the bible molestation of children owning people murdering people yet the 10 commandments say though shalt not kill to much contradiction
It is a constant source of amusement to me to see how much more these guys know about the bible than those that supposedly live their lives based on it.
@xipheonj They dont have a freaking clue, they are satan, he is talking through them. If they knew anything about the bible they would not be atheist.
@hannahmillable you don't know enough about the bible or you too would be atheist. It was only through my study of the bible that I broke free. You hear this claim from so many atheists.
@hannahmillable You've obviously never met an atheist, then.
I was a Christian for a very, very, very long time. One day I realized that the pastor of our Church would read through certain "uplifting" parts of the Bible for a couple of years, and then he would start over with the same passages. So I decided to read the Bible on my own. It took a long time, and much of the things I read I couldn't believe, so I read through most of it again. I then realized it's a violent and contradictory book.

yvranx 1 week ago
@yvranx Responses need to get interrupted, when they are bad from the get go. Its called Correcting. If a child is reaching out for an open flame, you are not going to wait till he touches it.
NathanWubs 3 days ago
@NathanWubs That's called "rude" and "begging the question". How on earth could you have a discussion about a controversial topic if you expect people to interrupt the opponent everytime they think the opponent is wrong?
It just can't work, and Matt knows this. He wouldn't suggest such behaviour in a symmetrical situation, ie. if he does not have the Power Of The Button.
yvranx 3 days ago
@yvranx I suggest, you look at several shows of the atheist experience. And I mean about 20 episodes of them. Then you probably will understand things a bit better. Also some of the older ones, which are longer. After all their show has been reduced to a hour.
NathanWubs 3 days ago
@NathanWubs I've seen far more than 20, including some older ones. I'm a big fan of the show, but that does not mean that I can't see its faults.
Jeff and Matt are the only ones constantly and rudely interrupting callers, the others don't do it. So it IS possibly to not be rude.
yvranx 3 days ago
@yvranx "Jeff and Matt are the only ones constantly and rudely interrupting callers, the others don't do it. So it IS possibly to not be rude."
I see it this way, when an argument starts with a false assumption it is not rude to point this out to try to gain common ground. I can agree that patience is a virtue but considering it is their show I would guess Jeff and Mat is less patience and tries to cut off dead ends because they also want to give air to as many callers as possible.

yvranx 1 day ago
@yvranx Only ever seen them cut off a caller if the caller makes a point that needs to be countered. This is because it is a common tactic of theists to try to fire off half a dozen or more different points to sound authoratative and not allow atheists to counter the points one by one.
Cutting off after the first point is a perfectly legitimate tactic to allow the atheist counterpoint to be made.

I also think it is part of charm with the show that they have different personalities, because of their different ways it give a greater spectrum and broader view on their responses. If we all was equal the world would soon become very boring.

To the contrary, I think they should be exposed, by letting them speak, then show how wrong they are.

MunkyDrag0n 2 weeks ago
@KuhoinX Yes your are correct, this whole show is rigged. There is no way anyone can make a good sensible argument about their religion. Is like trying to prove, like Aron said, that Godzilla is real. It is a waste of time for all these theists to even try. Still, I don't know why, but I enjoy watching their futile attempts.
omarct 2 weeks ago
@omarct this show is no way shape or form "rigged". Its just that it seems that way, because of a few reasons. First NONE of these theist callers can EVER make a decent argument towards their side of the debate because its based on total crap. Second they always answer all the callers questions based on scientific/mathematical/logical fact. Show me any instance in that this show is rigged *seriously i will give you as long as you need*.
MrSumbody69 2 weeks ago
@MrSumbody69 every single caller is given a FAIR chance at proving his or her statement and EVERY single time they dance around the question, throw out analogies, and counter question *which are all forms of dodging the original because they CANNOT prove their claim*. So if you ask me, i personally think theists rigged themselves to never be able to understand the logic behind the hosts questions.
MrSumbody69 2 weeks ago
@MrSumbody69 You are as stupid as the callers in this show. I used rigged as a sort of metaphor to say that they could never lose the argument. I even went ahead and explained why they couldn't lose with the Godzilla example. If you are young then you need to say less and listen more, if you are already a grown "man" then I pity your ignorance and stupidity.

I have already explained what I mean by "radical atheists". I mean people who think that everybody who doesn't agree with them 100 % is a stupid and bad person. :D
2011rosarot 3 weeks ago
@2011rosarot That has nothing to do with their atheism, denying a god exists is a different level than Atheism.
you cant really agree with disbelief or belief.
Example.
person 1 "I believe in god"
person 2 "I agree"
do you see the problem here? what are they agreeing too? person 2 is agreeing that person 1 believes in god, not that they also believe in god.
What you are talking about is completely secondary to Atheism, you don't have to deny god exists to be atheist.
evilyakko 3 weeks ago
@2011rosarot radical atheists sounds like any run of the mill christian or muslim or any other religious belief that revolves around a "almighty creator/s". This is based on all my personal experiences and just about every youtube video i have seen based on this *which is quite a bit of them*
MrSumbody69 2 weeks ago

2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot
TheTexanCanadian 1 month ago
@TheTexanCanadian, Christians of the type that you just described are definitely messed up. LOL But do you really believe that all people in the world who say that they believe in God are just like American fundamentalist Christians ? ? ?
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot
TheTexanCanadian 1 month ago
@TheTexanCanadian, well....then about 90 % of the Christians here in the West and North of Europe are not real Christians at all. :D Nonetheless, they are officially called "Christians" and they usually say that they believe in some kind of god....of, course, most of them never go to church. LOL
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot
TheTexanCanadian 1 month ago
@TheTexanCanadian, although people in this part of Europe normally don't take the bible very seriously (and they definitely don't take it literally), they are usually not atheists. Usually they are very liberal Christians, or agnostics, or they are interested in all kinds of other religions like Buddhism. Apart from that, however, (almost) NOBODY here cares whether his friends, co-workers, etc. believe in God or not. This topic is just never discussed.
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot All christians USED to think just that. in fact that is fundamental to the three major abrahamic religions. it just became unpopular over time, and relatively recently at that.
hardinmichael1981 1 month ago
@hardinmichael1981, yes, you are right. Fortunately, the vast mojority of people are not these types of Christians anymore. (At least not in this part of Europe. I can't speak for the USA.). I think that radical atheism only makes sense in opposition to fundamentalist Christians who really take the bible literally. Radical atheists and radical Christians belong together like two sides of a coin. That's how I see it.
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot - please explain 'radical Atheism'. Because to me (an Atheist) describing someone as a radical Atheist is akin to labelling someone a professional non-player of chess or a rabid non-collector of stamps or a chronic non-smoker.

@freakystyley4000, by "radical atheists" I mean a person who thinks that it is 100 % certain that no type of god can possibly exist....and who thinks that everybody who doesn't agree with him 100 % is a bad and stupid person. :D

@2011rosarot Religion deserves no respect. As long as it takes the stand on issues of the world with its unfounded claims, I will take the stand against it and ridicule it. If they can make others feel inferior, then I will make them feel inferior.
hislord1 1 week ago
@hislord1 Taking a stand against unfounded or dangerous religious claims is necessary and a good thing, of course. However, that is not the same as being a "fanatical" atheist. Fanatical atheists are just like fanatical vegetarians. They can't stop preaching and condemning. Atheists or vegetarians who become fanatical in this sense are not helping their cause at all.
2011rosarot 1 week ago
@2011rosarot But sometimes bashing believers is just fun! It’s sort of like the fun Christians had when they poured molten lead into the orifices of non-believers during the Inquisition,…. but without all the dead bodies.
politicoochie09 1 week ago
@2011rosarot I am a "fanatical atheist" because a large proportion of our population comprises of fanatical theists, who constantly make decisions that affect me. It is frankly not a hard idea to grasp.

How would you people respond to this: God don't show himself to people because it is up to everyone to believe him, through the Bible. That's why "he" wrote that book, it is the pathway to truth, but only if man himself believes it. It's an opportunity, not a innate privilege, to go to heaven?

@ChipArgyle Sure there is a reason Chip....it's not a very good reason, or a reasonable reason :) , but it is still a reason.
It's really quite simple. Here goes....
They are terrified. They are so ingrained with this concept of a God who loves them , cares for them, protects them, wants to let them live forever so they don't have to even fear Death, even while all these things continue to be proven wrong by the fact that theists starve, suffer and die every day.
OkamsRazer 1 month ago

2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot As opposed to the smug sense of MORAL superiority that theists have?
GoblinXXX 1 month ago
@GoblinXXX, No, not "as opposed to" but exactly the same! SOME atheists have exactly the same smug sense of (moral) superiority that SOME theists have. Isn't it true to say that some atheists think that they are the good ones and that those who don't think like them are the "evil" (stupid/inferior) ones? That is exactly the same way in which some religious people think.
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot The biggest difference is that atheism is a rejection of a belief system- It makes no "promises" nor offers any moral guidelines-- And yet, believers are prone to the same failings. So what good does religion do, if the religious are no better?
GoblinXXX 1 month ago
@GoblinXXX I am not saying that religion is good. But atheism in itself is not good, either. It is irrelevant whether a person is a theist or an atheist because the only thing that matters is his character. A kind, accepting, friendly person makes this world a better place. A judgemental, self-righteous, hostile person makes this world a worse place. Do you think a self-righteous Christian will become kind and accepting when he becomes an atheist?
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot Atheism makes no claims to be "good"-- Religion DOES. And if someone is self-righteous BECAUSE he's a Christian, he probably WILL become less so upon leaving the faith.
GoblinXXX 1 month ago

@TheAtheistExperience, Okay, fair enough. :)

@2011rosarot Atheism makes no claims other than "I don't believe God or Gods exist". That's the sole claim of atheism. Individual atheists may differ on the rest of their attitudes or beliefs, but the only thing...the ONLY thing all atheists share is that we don't believe God exists.
alphaenemy 1 month ago 2
@alphaenemy, you wrote "The ONLY thing all atheists share is that we don't believe God exists". Yes, I understand.
But it is also true to say that the only thing that theist have in common is that they believe in God...apart from that they are all different. For instance, here in Europe, Christians who take the bible literally are very rare. Here, most Christians go to church only for Christmas. And they have no problem at all with accepting the theroy of evolution, etc.
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot Well when some of you espouse that you all share the same values, which am I to believe?
alphaenemy 1 month ago
@alphaenemy, What do those Christians mean when they talk about "values"? Could you give me an example? A value is obiviously not the same as a belief. Do they mean values like helping others, patience, kindness, respect etc.? I think that most people (Christians, non-Christians, agnostics and atheists alike) value these traits.

@2011rosarot
"But atheism in itself is not good, either."
TheTexanCanadian 1 month ago
@TheTexanCanadian, Rude and mean people make this world a worse place even if they never become physically dangerous. Or do you enjoy having rude and mean people as family members or co-workers? A person's character is more important than ANYTHING else about him/her. It is bizarre that some Christians and atheists think that a person's belief in God (or the lack of this belief ! ) is more important than his character.
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot
TheTexanCanadian 1 month ago
@TheTexanCanadian, I don't expect the world to be anything other than it is. I accept reality. But I definitely prefer to be around nice and friendly people rather than rude and nasty people. There is no need to become rude, mean and nasty in order to state one's opinion or to be honest. Yes, some Christians are very judgmental and condemning. But so are some atheists.
2011rosarot 1 month ago
@2011rosarot

@ApostateOfTheDamned He isnt a monster, he is a very loving God
hannahmillable 2 months ago
@hannahmillable "He isnt a monster, he is a very loving God" yeah he sounds really lovely, i especially love the parts where he knowingly sacrifices children and says that its ok to have slaves (hell I'm even allowed to beat them to death and have no punishments at all). In all seriousness you're god sounds malevolent, so I'm going to let you try explaining the reasons he lets such things happen. The fact is he only loves those who serve him, leaving others to rot.
ApostateOfTheDamned 2 months ago
this show host has very good argument and the main argument is that there is some very evil shit going on in the bible molestation of children owning people murdering people yet the 10 commandments say though shalt not kill to much contradiction

@xipheonj They dont have a freaking clue, they are satan, he is talking through them. If they knew anything about the bible they would not be atheist.
hannahmillable 2 months ago
@hannahmillable you don't know enough about the bible or you too would be atheist. It was only through my study of the bible that I broke free. You hear this claim from so many atheists.
xipheonj 2 months ago
@hannahmillable You've obviously never met an atheist, then.
I was a Christian for a very, very, very long time. One day I realized that the pastor of our Church would read through certain "uplifting" parts of the Bible for a couple of years, and then he would start over with the same passages. So I decided to read the Bible on my own. It took a long time, and much of the things I read I couldn't believe, so I read through most of it again. I then realized it's a violent and contradictory book.
