  • I have a vastly edited vhs version of this, cut down to about 3 hours and after seeing this, now I have to get the dvd to see what's missing (I can guess, since I've read the book.)

Well, one thing I notice is the preacher in this 1981 min series is the same actor who played Joe the bouncer in the 1954 James Dean starring/Elia Kazan directed "East of Eden."

    Interesting....

  • so the book and the movie are different?

  • The trailer is confusing. Jane is on the cover, but the trailer implies that she's just a small side character. I hope she does have a main role, cuz I only want to see it for her.

  • wait wait wait thumbs up if u looked this up cuz of the song monster by meg and dia if u did this is notin like the song

  • @719hannah I KNOW HELL PEOPLE IN THE COMMENTS TOLD ME SUMMARY OF STORY IT SOUNDED REALLY GOOD

  • This was a great adaptation of one of my favourite books. The 50s film was wonderful too - but I loved the fact that this one told the whole story. Jane Seymour was perfect as Cathy. I really hope that whoever plays her in the planned remake is as sweetly poisonous .... Kate Winslet would be ideal as would Natalie Portman or Kate Hudson with Eddie Redmayne and Tom Sturridge as Cal and Aaron.

  • @rees276 Kate Hudson is an idiot. If she were in it then it wouldn't be a good movie.

  • @Akahdiufe Carey Mulligan?

  • @rees276

Yeah she might work. It's not that I don't like Kate. I think her parents adversely affect her and to me she doesn't portray confidence on screen that a role like this requires. Kate needs to ignore her parents and just do her own thing, acting wise that is. I don't know that is the case but that is the impression I get from her movies.

  • the book was 100x better

  • Dont' make movies like this anymore.

  • GET IT ON NETFLIX!!! They have the movie.

  • It is on Netflix...Don't need to buy it.

  • i thought james dean was in the movie?

  • @MrsChasen91 he is in the movie. this is a miniseries.

  • holy crap.... SO not how i imagined ANY of the characters

  • This book was AMAZING! I hated Cathy with a passion, she was an effin bitch on crack, "i can get to be so small you wont even notice me." She set up her own rape scene when she was 10! She had no soul or humanity. Adam was an idiot to have let Cathy control him. But i felt soo sorry for Cal, all he wanted was to be loved. This is Steinbeck's best work in my opinion. The way he intertwined the trasks, cathy, and the hamilton's was genious, making it seem like he was the grandson of sam hamilton.

  • @MLA786zasy Actually, the character of Samuel Hamilton is based off of his maternal grandfather. So yes, Sam Hamilton actually is his grandfather.

  • Wait i thought this was the movie were the boy rapes a girl and took her virginity and he didnt know what love was so he saw what horrible things he did and he bathed in kerosene and lit himself on fire???

  • @InLoVeWiThLaNgStOn yea wat book was that called .... i cant find it anywhere can u r someone tell me wat book it is called it seems so interesting

  • @EchonKun I think its hannahs regrets

  • @InLoVeWiThLaNgStOn Are you here because of the Meg & Dia song xDcauses i am o.o

  • @Gia0891 yeah pretty much lol

  • i love that soundtdrack.

  • I am just done with the book and, like every Steinbeck novel I have read, I am stunned at the authors talent. Would love to see this version of the book.

  • i am currently reading this book and its kristen stewart favorite book but i hate how kathy looks she should look smaller and sweeter

  • cathy is a psychopath, but nonetheless extremely hot

  • Hello! Can anyone pinpoint me the Rapidshare AND/OR MegaUpload links for this mini-series, pls? If you like, pm me AND/OR visit me @ Bolt.Org; I am 'The_Ecclectic_One82' there; see my uploaded movies there! ;-)

    Thanks 1 ZILLION!

  • looking at this depresses me, because of the picture i have in my mind of all of them and in comparison, i don't like it! oh well

  • "East of Eden" is one of my most favorite books!

I liked the movie very much - I think the movie is as true to the original book story as very few movies are.

  • just watched it online....for FREE!!! :-P

  • @MichellePlettke Please where did you see east of eden with Jane Seymor for free?

  • love this movie

  • where?:)

  • why do that when u can watch it for free

  • where?:)

  • It is not available for free anywhere. We are a DVD company. We sell DVDs to make money.

  • @AcornMediaUS bla

  • @AcornMediaUS $59.99 are u kidding why not $599.99?

  • @AcornMediaUS

Not for that price you won't

  • @o14elise lol

  • @BumperKart I hate to say it, but that's really a dumb answer to leave on the publisher's page talking to a person that works for the publisher. >.>

  • @AcornMediaUS Why sell it for $60? This movie is like 30 years old...

  • Jane Seymour is amazing in this! And the music is beautiful.

  • i liked this version better bc it shows more of jane's character side of the story. the one with james dean was the trask family story more.

  • I haven't seen this version yet, but I hope that it doesn't focus entirely on Cathy/Kate simply on account of Jane's beauty the way the 1955 version focused entirely on Cal because of how handsome James Dean was. If so, that would be a very shallow treatment for such a profound character study and I couldn't stand to see another adaptation do such terrible injustice to one of my favorite novels ever.

  • I think you'll enjoy this version. Incredible actors and provocative story line. Very sexy remake!

  • @SeattleHereICome

Don't worry. This version is quite true to the book.

  • @SeattleHereICome

This version was much better than the James Dean movie!! It is shocking and Jane Seymour is fabulous in this!!!! She is definitely a demon!!!!!

  • It is not a question of 'which version is better'. They are both terrific.

The James Dean version concentrates on Cal Trask. Jimmy Dean was FANTASTIC in that one.

The Jane Seymour-version concentrates on the entire book. She is the one I remember the most, but all the actors were sublime, it is beautifully shot and kept me interested till the last minute.

  • i've never even read the story but which version is better?

  • where can i watch this? it seems like it would be better than the james dean version.

  • It's available for purchase at acornonline(dot)com!

  • i want to watch this, is that wrong?

  • I LOVED THIS MINSERIES!!!
