  • Beautful Song, make me think about my dad,i lost him last year, miss him alot ! Thanks.

  • Thank you Maureen:

I could listen to Jim Ed all night, and you put together a great package.

I'm not ashamed to say I still get a little 'misty' listening to this.

    Thanks again

    Ron

  • I have looked for this song a long time...I rmember fond memories of mum and dad playing in on a record back home a long time ago...I love it

  • so was this on the radio in '61 or 2? because i remember it, i was only in 2nd grade in '62. maybe it was 63?

  • My parents liked this song, brings back memories. *****Stars

    Thank you for sharing.

  • This is a beautiful walk down memory land, thank you, Maureen. Beautiful graphics.

  • Anyone doing their tourist thing should head for Malvern in England. The council wanted to get rid of our original gas lamps and go all flash modern but we beat them and gas lamps still glow!

  • Beautiful song. I like the original by Sammy Kaye better

  • Thanks so much Maureen

This reminds me so much of my parents singing it.

By the way, where icome from (Scotland) the lamplighter was "Old Leerie"

    Dont ask me why

  • @momac71 Catherine O'Leary was an immigrant living in Chicago in the 1870s. It was alleged that a fire started in her barn which went on to burn a large part of the city, an event known as the Great Chicago Fire. After the fire, she was used as a scapegoat by the Chicago Tribune whose reporter admitted that he had made up the story of a cow kicking over a lantern because he thought it would make colorful copy. Many believe that the fire began with the O'Learys' cow knocking over a lantern.

  • i'm a lamp lighter

  • my parents danced their first dance to this song in Martinsburg Missouri in the early to mid 60's. They went to a youth group dance and were matched b/c the girl and boy with the biggest feet were supposed to dance together. I have to chuckle everytime i hear the story.

I love u Mom and Dad.

  • @jaksspring97 That is such a cute story. It made me laugh. Thanks for telling me. :)

  • maureen, i so enjoy these old songs. this is especially beautiful.i love jim ed brown songs. thank you for sharing this video with me. 10stars. god bless you, margie

  • @puckett456 Thank you, Margie! I tried to thank you last night but wasn't able to. I'm glad things are okay again. God bless you! :D <3 Maureen

  • Jim Ed Brown's voice was always so mellow. The Browns' sound was so just right for this song (and 'The Three Bells', too). As with you and so many others who have responded, this was a real favorite of mine while in junior high......so long, long ago.

  • @davesnouffer Nostalgic moments are so nicely spent! :) <3 Maureen

  • They maKE NICE SONGS TODAY, BUT SOMETIMES WE SHOULD STOP AND REFLECT WHEN SONGS WERE MORE VARIED, I CAN NOT IMAGINE ANYONE SING A SONG TODAY (oops taps) about old lamp lighters just isn't going to happen,is it?? songs were much more varied than todays themes are sex drugs and heartbreak. loved it .

  • @beachfrontal I'm happy you liked it. Thanks for the nice comment! <3 Maureen

  • Thanks Maureen

    for the old music

  • Oh this is really lovely maureen.

  • A lovely crafted video *****

  • Very nice I haven't heard this song it a long time. The sound quality is also very good.

  • I well remember when this song was released. 1959 was a year of fast moving transition. This vintage classic, with it's nostalgic lyrics, brought us back to good 'ol solid ground. What I can't remember, is anyone who didn't like this song.

I think you collected an excellent selection of pictures to accompany this all time favorite. Thanks for a very nice video. We don't have gaslights anymore. Not to worry. I'll light a candle for you. ♥

    5*

  • @likekinds Thank you for your very nice comments. I said the same thing you did...

I don't know anyone who didn't like this song. I figured there'd be a few lamps that

wouldn't be appropriate for this song. Thanks for lighting a candle for me. :D
