Is there any offline co-op feature for the console version of this game? As in can i play the game with my buddy beside me without needing to go online? Anyone?
@robohobo38 No, there is no level-up or unlock system in this game. There are also no customized weapon/equipment load-outs in the included missions, although some user-made missions will let you select your own equipment load-out.
@hockeykid30b I don't think the game is worth purchasing these days. As mentioned elsewhere, the developer (Codemasters) dropped support for the game while it was still buggy. It MIGHT be worth a purchase if it goes on sale for $5-$10; the single-player campaign might keep you entertained for a bit, and there are some decent user-made missions you can download and play. If you don't already have Arma2, I highly recommend purchasing that and skipping OFP:DR altogether.
@dcalpha007 ya. the only problem is my computer needs a higher hd card, im out of memory, i dont really know how much RAM i have and i only have 10 gb so ya. im looking into an hp pavilion laptop just for me. i dont have the money to get a laptop by sony or apple. theyre way too expensive
I used to have this but sold it, I'm thinking of buying it again with a friend for the co op multiplayer but I was wondering, if there are just two players, do you get two AI friendlies as squad mates to complete the squad, or do you have to cope with just two people?
@porterbehling The AI will fill in for any open squad slots, and you can issue them orders. Make certain that you do have a friend to play with, because, at least on the PC, the community for this game is all but non-existent. Codemasters also stopped supporting the game before it was debugged, so you may have issues with online play in regards to making and keeping connections. When I played with friends, dropped connections and crashes were common, and those issues were never patched.
@setorando2 I have no idea; I have the PC version (haven't played it for months, Codemasters killed all development and support for the game). According to Codies website, there is no split-screen in any version.
do you guys still play this? i just got the game and its impossible to find a co-op server... if by any chance your looking for players give me a PM and il give you my steam name or something
@jackassunit22 : Sadly, no; the developer, Codemasters, stopped supporting the game on February 16, 2010, just 4 months after release. There was a huge backlash from the PC community because Codemasters had promised dedicated server support, only to pull the plug on that promise after 2 months. Online play is still buggy as hell, and since the issue will never be officially addressed, players gave up and moved on. As with any game, there are a few supporters hanging on, otherwise OFPDR is dead.
@jackassunit22 : As a follow-up, if you have a decent rig, look into Arma 2, and the upcoming stand-alone expansion for it, Operation Arrowhead (releasing in June, I believe). Arma 2 delivers on many of the concepts that OFPDR originally promised but could never implement. Arma 2 has it's flaws, but it also has a HUGE, supportive community, as well as continued developer support. I haven't been playing much lately, but I plan to get back into with Operation Arrowhead.
Too bad the MP on the Xbox 360 is broken. I can play every other game mode but coop. I've tried all day today on many different servers. Apparently "connection failed" is not uncommon.
expert review u have to spend too much time sneaking around before u see any action pluses huge maps nice scenery but not much action besides sneaking around for hours and too litle action in between i will stick with battlefield 2 for another year untill something else comes out
Lol, my friend, you probably know that, since we used TS, my voice was the only voice that Fraps didn't pick up, but there are a few times you can kind of hear it in the background coming over the comm of another player.
Instead of your formula above, I'd say that OFDR falls somewhere between the other two games: not as runny-jumpy and more realistic than CoD, but not as deep or mil-simy as Arma. Considering that it has to run on consoles as well, I'd say they did the best they could.
OFP:DR is awesome worth buying!

@RiddicksRevenge
yea it was pretty awesome.
If there's one thing that this game has on ARMA2 it's the gore.
In ARMA 2 I shoot somebody with an M107, the death animation plays and a small spot of blood appears.
In OFP:DR and Red River. I shoot somebody with a M107. They're head explodes and they ragdoll.

@FrackVaren I have no idea, I only have the PC version. In any event, the game turned out to be mostly crap, I would recommend steering clear of it.
dcalpha007 8 months ago
@dcalpha007 The game's not crap, you are. By your standards anything that isn't CoD or a CoD clone is crap.

@FrackVaren No only 1 player on one xbox. otherwise each player needs their own xbox and live account to play.
