The Andante Spianato is like a prelude to the grande polonaise and usually played one after the other. This is just the Andante Spianato.

His hand position is actually perfect for this piece. Andante spianato requires a very wide hand position, and obviously that requires flatter fingers. Also, tonality is easier to control with flatter fingers. Although, make sure to notice that he never loses the curve in his fingers.
