  • The Basques are my Great, great, great, geat etc. Parents. I had no dea of this struggle, apparantly people hate us Basque and Irish :(

  • Freedom for the Basque and Irish people!

  • @MrDanFitzpatrick YOU SAID IT THERE

Viva Espana unidad! When you unite you became bigger and stronger, when you divide you became insignificant and weaker. Long live a united Spain! Noone has said you have to loose your language or costumes, that is what makes Spain unique!

  • Nacido en Argentina, apellido y raices Vascas. No abondonemos la lucha!

Born in Argentina, Basque surname and roots. Do not give up the fight!

  • If a culture feels it has been forced unfairly against its will it will rebel like this, the best approach to this situation is negotiation and concessions, allow more choice and freedom rather than make demands. Appeal to them to remain with Spain and show benefits of being voluntarily part of the country. Integrate. Tribalism grows when force is used.

Allow a gradual flow and give them space, dont compress or it will blow up. I've been watching similar for decades here in Ireland.

  • Gora euskadi!!

No habéis intimidado a nadie.

  • @faouar sabes castellano?

  • @breizhcatalonia1993 Soy vasco.

  • @faouar o alemán.

  • @breizhcatalonia1993 Vasco, residente en el extranjero.

  • "The origin of these people remains a mistery" God created them separetly from the rest of the people of the iberian peninsula... lol The fascism in Spain 30 years ago was Franco now it's just the nationalists. (and DN and Falange btw)

  • @dankspain lololololol being nationalist is not bad except if you go against the others

    btw

you are also nationalist but you don't know it :D

  • It's sad that we haven't realized that separation only weakens and causes conflict. Instead of trying to promote respect and live together in a world that doesn't even belong only to us, we always emphasize the differences and want to feel special and different in a negative way seeing the rest as inferior. It'd be nice if people were proud of being HUMAN and helped one another. Anyone could've been born anywhere else and have a different background and that wouldn't make them any less human.

  • @ranov blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and more blah, this is not your busniess, one thing is a terrorist organization and other thing is that you don't share the sentiment of belonging to the nation in which you live in and want to form another.

  • Freee the Basque Country? Open your eyes. This country is free and it must be freed from ETA.

  • @faouar It's not free jabroni!

  • @fonzie0704 Who do you want to fool here? Certainly you're trying to make other nations believe we live in a dictatorship or something simmilar, like in Palestina or Tibet. That's the usual borroka strategy, which by the way does not work any more. Nice try.

  • @faouar your the fool idiot

  • @faouar FUCK

letting ETA apart ( because it has been dissolved) it's clear that you spanish idiots would never understand that someone speaks a language different to you and not wants to be part of your country.

  • @breizhcatalonia1993 It's clear, you fool, that you don't understand the Basque Country does not belong to the Basque only. The Spanish people are part of the Basque Country, whether you like it or not, and they will speak Spanish as well. Swallow this.

  • @faouar The Basque belongs to the basque only, but the basques are all who live and work in the basque country and WANT to be basque.

  • why there is no unrecognized nations - chechnya episode? :D

  • Free the Basque country from the Spanish tyrants, Basque people need international support!!!

  • Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind.

    -Albert Einstein

  • @gcastro44 Nationalism is the last refuge of an oppressed people. It only flares up in times of crisis.

  • @gcastro44 i am nationalist and i think nationalism is not bad except if that nationalism goes AGAINST other people;)

anyway another german say that "Nationalism is hate against other countries, patriotism is loving your country".

  • Hey what happened to saving a REAL COUNTRY like TIBET and the BASQUE COUNTRY? The heck with that fictitious country called Palestine!

  • @MultiPelias

    fuck you

freedom for palestine scotland and basque country

  • @MultiPelias I think you'll find Israel is the fictitious country, Jewboy...

OT: How long after given independence, would the Basques go crying to the Spanish government, begging for funds for their economy, or start moaning about Bilbao and Sociedad not being allowed in La Liga?

  • @ParkLaneTottenham1 Does really a football match is the most important thing for a country that stops them to get its independence? :O

  • Anyone know the songs between 0:00 and 0:40?

  • Fuck Palestine... it belongs to the Jews anyways, SAVE the BASQUE COUNTRY!!!!

  • franco :D

  • @croatiaa4ever fuck he :D :D :D :D

  • FREE BASQUE!!!!!

  • @istraight1 and the FREEDOM of express their independentists opinions without ETA

PD: You are not anticatalan independence or antibasque independence, you are really anti catalan and antibasque.

  • My roots come from the Basque country. I never knew how bad it was for the Basque people. I thought Spain was united. Que tengan fuerza la gente de Basque.

  • My father's side of the family has Basque roots. I never knew much about them until now. I am a Californian-born American but I am Mexican, Native American, Irish and Polish with splashes of Scottish as well--my mother being full Mexican (which of course inevitably has Native American in it as well) and my father adding everything else to my bloodline. I feel proud to add Basque blood to that list, their pride in themselves in admirable.

  • THERE ARE COWARDS THAT ARE AFRAID OF LOOSING THEIR FINANCIAL WELL BEING IN TERM THEY GIVE UP THEIR HISTORIC FREEDOM.... I RATHER DIE FREE......FUCK SPAIN

    LONG LIVE THE BASQUE COUNTRY!!!!!

  • free the basque region from ireland,we have similar problems here

  • FREEDOM BASQUE COUNTRY

  • now Basque political prisoners' faces are forbidden, the Spanish law says it's a statement justifying terrorism to show their pics.

now ETA has stopped attacking, but Spanish politicians do not stop their repression.

  • salam, our palestinian homeland is being oppressed too. We will fight and stay faithful to God and he will make us victorious over the jews in Israel. We will pray for Basque country too so they can be victorious over Spain!

  • @chaosbringer127 and us here in in ireland also be victorious

  • @chaosbringer127 i will ask you a thing and i will like you to reply with the same calm that i am replying you ok? ;)

I personally defend the right of Palestine to be an independent country like Basque Country and Catalonia, but i also defend the right of israel to exists, so why you don't support the two states as i do and stop to spread hate between jews and arabs? ;)

    Greetings ;)

  • @tontsa911 there is a large difference between nations that have independance and ones that dont. Some with independance, such as South Ossetia, Somaliland, Transnistria or Nagorno-karabakh have minimal if no internation recognition. Some like Basque Country, Tibet or Quebec are not independant but a large majority of it's citizens want it. INDEPENDANCE DAY IS TODAY!

  • @SamsSpaghetti haha you are pathetic man i said blacks and arabs i want you to go to algeria and find the white man or asian man you wont so its mostly black and arab you idiot you know nothing of any country

  • @SamsSpaghetti then you are racist and you have no say in who can come to my country i have black friends they are great people and some very funny they do not ruin this country they are people same as arabs i play soccer with many and they are great people aswell and there belief in islam makes them brave and selfless men

  • @SamsSpaghetti arabs and black people they have nothing to do with the struggle on the basque. even if the spanish come from north africa they are no longer north african dont shame the africa by calling them such things

  • How is it possible that the Basque have not had indepence yet? :(

  • @tontsa911 and Tibet?

  • @xxxxLetsRidexxxxx Tibet should get independence ASAP. And Kurdistan... and Chechnya...

  • Fredom for Basque Country, We need democracy not the Spanish persecution. This video is patetic.

  • @DrMMHMD Fuck off prick, genetical histories are officail titles ignornat punk...run along to class pinochio, there a good boy....you offer no counter evidence.....maybe you are good at making lego models or something?

  • Hi Basques!

I would be very grateful if any of you could answer my question:

In what extent has been effective the revitalization of the basque language since the fall of Franco's regime up to the present days please?

    Greetings from Hungary!

    Agur! :)

  • @farfromtotalism i would have answer if i could understand your question

  • @farfromtotalism

I am sorry, my English is rather poor than perfect.:)

    My question is the following:

To my knowledge during the Franco's regime the Basque language was forcily oppressed. In other words many of Basques had stopped to spek their native Basque language and changed it to Spanish.

What is the situation now? Do Basque people use again their native mother language or they remained assimilated, please?

  • @farfromtotalism I will answer you ;)

Basque Language and nation have a similar history to the one of irish language, they not feel spanish but, as ireland, began to lose its native language in early 20th Century. The situation could resumed as in Ireland as: No one speaks basque as first language, but no one feels spanish, i think now it is about 16% of people that speaks basque as first language in the basque country, altough i think the whole basque country (including the one that is domined

  • and is part of france had a mininum knowledge of basque, franco's dictatorship forbid to speak basque, to have basque names, to toponimy places in basque...... and this made the basque language to be even less speaked, when the democracy came basque languages was made official in the basque country and navarra (which are the same but are divided by spain) and now you can put names in basque, speak basque, address in basque to the administration, and in the school there is the option of

  • a), study only in basque

    b) study in both basque and spanish

    c) study only in spanish

I am from catalonia myself and we have a similar situation that the one of the basques but the advantage here is that education is ONLY in catalan and in occitan (in the occitan speak part of catalonia) which has made that the almost the whole catalonia speak catalan today and catalan is the first and mother language of 50% of catalans, and that is purely stastic because outside the metropolitan area of

  • @breizhcatalonia1993 i am basque and just because for what most of stand for does not make me anti basque or catalan i am anti indepence of basque country and catalonia.

  • @istraight1 you are american accodring to your profile.

  • @istraight1 ok ;)

  • barcelona catalan is by far the most spoken language.

  • @farfromtotalism answered ;)

  • Saludos a todos los Bascos Desde Mexico

  • I HOPE THE REPUBLIC OF BASQUELAND COMES INTO FORCE ONE DAY BUT NOT BY THE BULLET. USE THE BALLOT INSTEAD. USE THE INTERNET, TOO, TO REACH OUT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN. FRANCE AND SPAIN SHOULD BE FORCEDDTO HAND OVER THEIR PARTS OF THE PYRANEE MOUNTAINS TO YOU AS REPARATION FOR WHAT THEY DID TO YOU OVER THE CENTURIES. LOOK AT WHAT THESE "CIVILIZED" COUNTRIES DID TO YOU. THEN COMPARE IT WITH WHAT THE NAZIS DID TO THE FRENCH. SEE THE SIMILARITIES? SO DOES THE REST OF THE WORLD.

  • FREEDOM 4 MY LAND!

    WE NEED THE INTERNATIONAL HELP!!

  • @unai94 spain is becoming the mexico of europe

  • I hope the basque country will achieve the independence, because the Central Power of Spain has always atacked every non-castillian spanish language, so their independence will give them freedom and will protect that ancient and valuable language, euskara. Spanish has discriminated basques, perhaps they want to hide it, but we won't forget what they did. ETA doesn't represent basques or independentists basqs, which don't agree with violence, but for spanish is easier to disqualify them with that

  • THE CORRECT TITLE IS: FICTICIUS NATIONS

  • EUSKAL HERRIA IS NOT SPAIN

  • As someone who is half Basque I have to admit that the idea of Basque independence is absolutely ludicrous. It's development is understandable. Franco was a jerk, but those days are over and there really wasn't much of a history of Basque repression before him. Quite the opposite, really. The Basques have mostly enjoyed many privileges within Spain. At one time everyone born in Vizcaya was considered a hildago from birth for crying out loud.

  • The basque people are the mother people of the western europeans!!

  • 20:15 "ploff misploto" LOL xd

  • I was thinking the same about how Russia ,dominates it minority's...But those minority's are growing, and Russia's population is failing like a rock... Maybe the Russians need to lay off the vodka and have more children...lol...

  • Best wishes to Basque nation! Eastern(Caucasian) Iberia-or Georgia!

  • @jabamelkadze1 excuzame my friend, but DNA research showed that basques has more ties with Celtics from

Ireland and wales than with georgians.

  • @TheDontancredo read more...

  • @TheDontancredo i have, this is why i tell you, i know Georgians wishto have relations with basques..but we know their origin is a mistery, and every thing are just speculations, anyway who should read is you man, this is why the Research was done and showed a completly diferent conections,im sorry to dissapoint you.as well Vasque people are the first human group in Europa, they share genetic conectios, unlike georgians.i wish you could read more and not base ur ideas in similarities of names

  • @TheDontancredo the basques may well originate from the first n african people "the pre arab berbers"......its scary but I love any truths revealed by DNA analysis.........of course its far more complex but there is a general trend

  • @3tangle3 IN GENERAL FRO SURE IS FAR MORE COMPLEX AND AS A CONCLUSION I WILL SAY SOMETHING ABOUT UR COMMENT, AS WE KNOW ALL THE EUROPEAN TRIBES COME FROM AFRICA, SO BE MORE SEIROUS IF U WANT TO WRITE ABOUT THE PROCEDENCE OF A COUNTRY,I WILL EXPLAIN TO YOU IN OTHER WAY,DONT WRITE BULLSHIT, THE ONLY RESEARCH IN WHICH is possible to proove until now IS THAT VASQUES ARE RELATED TO BRITISH,IRISH AND SCOTICH its not better but its the reality.

  • @TheDontancredo why caps? I am conducting a PhD on the genetical history of the brit isles.............what is your evidence? what is your methodology....the fact you write the word scotch and irish with british together does not fill me with confidence at your qualification lol

  • @TheDontancredo DNA researches does not matter. In this few, Armenians and Georgians have more common DNA but they still are Indo-European like Celts, ore Germans. Read more about the languages. There are a lot of similarities in Georgian and Basque grammar. Anyway I do not think that Georgians and Basques are relatives, but I do not think either that Celts (which are Indo-european) are similar to Basques. Now we see who wish to have relations with basques...

  • vaya tela.

  • From the video, "the origins of these people remain a mystery"

Lulz wut? They're simply a people that resisted the the language of the Indo-European migrants. How are they a mystery? The media has to sensationalize everything.

  • @FlashVirus omg but where did they come from earlier on ? did they live in europe for millenias? did they come from asia or somewhere else to settle in northern spain ?

  • @MrKiljeaden89

They came to Europe just like everyone else. Most of them are probably descendants of neolithic migrants. For whatever reason, when Celtic culture was catching on in the areas around them, they remained the same. Perhaps it's because they didn't trade as much as their neighbors (so they didn't pick up a celtic tongue). Who knows really. It's cool they held onto their traditions, though.

  • @FlashVirus i guess its also cause they had good predispositions to isolate themselves in the unacessable mountain areas of the northern part of the iberian peninsula

  • so is this video supporting the genocide of the basque people?

  • 3:00 Why is culture a Lie you crazy lady

  • what is the song that is played in the beginning a bit after the video starts?

  • There is yet people living in the past. And in the Basque country they are above the 50% of the population.

  • Basque is Spain say no to separatist and terrorist republics . Basca speak spanish

/watch?v=wV1WqPv0iWc

  • well said Neu1983. Good news today though!! For the first time since 2003 ALL Basque people will be able to vote, even though the Spanish fascist state through all they had to stop us we outwit the bastards! Our finest hour is coming, there'll be more pain and Basque blood spilt but is coming! GORA EUSKAL HERRIA ASKATUTA!!

  • It seems that all the hope, intentios to be independent from Spain is related to ETA. And this is a huge mistake. The majority of the people who want the freedom of the basque country don´t support ETA. The strategy which is employimg for example ORDOÑEZ widow and many spanish people is to confuse people with these methods.

  • euskal herria!

  • Respects to the Basks and independence for the Basks. In the French Republic identity and origins are not respected and all forced to be French. I am from Normandy we have our own culture, language and identity but the French have for long trying to eliminate our identity.

  • @Anquetil79 cultural diversity of France is hardest hit than here in Spain, I am Galician and Spanish Constitution recognizes Galicia, the Basque Country and Catalonia as historical nationalities respecting their customs and their own languages,

French central state should be aware of this diversity and respect it. Normans, Bretons, Basques, Catalans, Burgundians, Alsacians ... should have more recognition

  • @LPScarface Well said my friend.

  • tripitrapu is full shit.

  • Ana Iribar Min 3:12 Euskal-herria doesn't exist? Why doesn't she talk with the hundred thousands of Basque language speakers that make the land of the Basque language a reality everyday of their lives

  • That kind of prejudice and flat out ignorance is a deterrent to mutual respect and understanding and BTW has anybody ever met any Englishman or Castilian for example, who loathes their own english or castilian languages as much as these "so called Basques" demonstrate towards their own Basque Language? Truly shameful. Hare okerrago!!!

  • Funny....yet SAD....

    Basques, France, Spain....

the SAME People fighting over "nationality/culture".

In fact, minority languages & cultures influence majority languages & cultures --

and vice versa....constantly developing and transmuting over time.

Here's a laugh, the Basques will never eliminate the Basques who oppose them....nor the Irish eliminate the Northern Irish....nor the Scots Highlanders eliminate the Scots Lowlanders....etc....ad infinitum! ;D

  • representative democracies' role on the conflict

  • if some part of the basque country is in france why no one wants that part from france?! why no one talks about the basque country in france?!

why the ETA dont attack france too?

    is france something holly?!

    FUCK FRANCE fuck basque

    E VIVA ESPANAAAAAAAAA

  • @Ulansananelan Can't understand why people that have no idea of what they're talking about feel the need to have an uneducated opinion. There is a Basque movement in French Basque Country, there's always been, at one point there was an armed group operating "Iparretarak" but there's a very good explanation to all your questions, if you want the answers get a proper book, if not, shut up you moron!

  • the british and irish apparently come from the basque people.

    Free the basques from UK.

  • @21centurynostradamus That's completely false, I'm afraid! The basques are in no way related to either. The Irish are Celtic in origin, as are the people of Scotland and Wales (though I presume that by "British", you effectively meant "English"). The English have quite a complicated history involving Germanic people, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Normans....but they have no connections to the Basque people. The Basques are entirely unique.

  • @fionnskie the high amount of rhesus negative blood in basques is similar to the celtic irish and cornish people . It is not beyond the realms of impossibility that groups of basques immigrated to the British and irish isles when it was still attached .

I think the fact that 35% of basques have negative blood brits and irish have similar numbers. Not to mention their flag looks a bit like the union jack in different colour's :P

  • We want freedom for our country, but we don´t like the violence. It´s not the way!! Freedom to the Basque Country!! Peace for the Basque Country!!

  • @xabier138 The only violence left in our right now is state violence!

  • Freedom for Basque from IRELAND

  • @M1ckyCFC Why?? Basque country is already autonomous, either way theyre going to be Economically, culturally, and politically tied, Especially now with the EU. And thats bullshit Spain encourages the use of regional languages in Spain now like Catalan, the franco years are over. and ETA are criminals

  • LoL.... "The basque language is the best" do you know what the kid says?

"El vasco es el mejor" guess what language is that... spanish, obviously because, probably the boy doesn't even know how to say it in basque... unlike some catalans almost every single basque speaks spanish much better than basque

"Basque activists"....yeah....Bin Laden was an "Arab activist"...

  • @M1ckyCFC SAOIRSE - ASKATASUNA :)

  • @M1ckyCFC Come On now, if we gave you guy freedom, it meant that England gotta walk out from Belfast too. And perhaps American have to get the fuck out and let the Native American roam the empty city.

  • @Insomaniaartist are you serious with that comment! yes get England out of Belfast to fuck! and that american native comment made me laugh clearly your a retard

  • @Insomaniaartist ha, ha, ha ( ironical)

  • always*

  • Well it should exist as it's own country, there wouldn't be any problems anymore if they got independence, no 'terrorism', so many countries fight for independence every century, just let them be their own country, that's where they've already been.

  • I am a mix of Irish and Basque, born in America. My grandfather tells me his mother was basque. It really is interesting exploring our own histories and how we have ended up in the region we are in... me being in california, it is quite different than in Europe, but part of me wants to accept my basque and irish origins.

Genetics and origins is not such an easy topic and hard to grasp. It's not black and white.

So much history, so much control, too much religion has masked our identity

  • @workingclasssociety I recomend the book "The Basque History of the World" by Mark Kurlansky.

  • Good documentary, thanks very much. I'm an Irish student studying in Bilbao actually and I wasn't sure about the whole Nationalism thing. I can relate to it because Ireland has faced a similar struggle under British Rule and still there are problems in Northern Ireland and such.

  • Nope, they are normal white people like the rest of Iberians, and unlike the retarded and resentful nonwhite Brazilian troll pretending to be a "redneck" from the United States below this post

  • Basque are Moors like the rest of their Iberian kinfolk

  • @RedneckVandal Get a job!

  • @RedneckVandal your so stupid!

  • @RedneckVandal You moron. The Basque Country was the only place not invaded by the moors!! There're things called books, I don't know if you heard of them, but they give you all sort of information and facts!

  • The fucking spanish IRA
