you are a great player and a very good teacher, thank you for your videos. Do you have a good way on learning or practicing the scales? If so can you do a video on this. Thank you Bill.
@abdula96 I already have quite a few right hand blues and boogie tutorials, so dive on back in my timeline. If there's anything specific you want to know about, just let me know and I'll shoot a vid for you - bearing in mind I have quite a backlog at the moment, but I like to help people out ;)
looks like a lot of practice for sure! you were using C scale to play this right? but how come it still sounds good when you had a black key played? isnt a C scale all white notes?
@coolguy701 Good question! The broad principle is that you don't have to stick to the scale notes of a key when you're playing. They'll likely form the spine of what you're doing, but you're not restricted to them.
That's true of all styles of music, but especially so of jazz and blues. In this case, the Bb comes from the C blues scale, which is different from the regular C major scale. I can't link here, but if you look back in my timeline there's a tutorial on blues scales - might be useful!
@coolguy701 its in the key of C major (all white keys) yes, but the C major blues scale is C, Eb, F, F#, G, Bb, C etc. You can get a blues scale from any key by following the pattern. minor 3rd, whole, half, half, minor 3rd, whole repeat. blues is built on minor 3rds (3 half steps) so thats where most of the contradicting notes come in. a D blues scale is D, F, G, G#, A, C, D which is strange cause in the key of D, F and C should be sharp.
@astro2191 It isn't a major scale since a major scale would have major 3rd in it. the blues scale it a minor pentatonic with a added #4 or b5. So it isn't strange that the F and C is sharpend in the D blues scale.
@coolguy701 Another thing about scales, don't just get locked in on the Major scale. There is a blues scale, a minor(Aeoleon) scale, a Pentatonic scale, Dorian scale, and several others that can be done in the key of C. There's at least 9 different scales for each individual key that you can play in. I don't know if there are more than 9 scales named for each key, but I have a feeling there are more scales that I haven't stumbled across. Scales are also known as modes.
@lorikins12 Strictly speaking, it's C major - but the thing with the blues is that it's often hard to say whether it's major or minor. If you look at that left hand, it's using both an E (which is part of the chord of C major) and Eb (part of the chord of C minor). Got that? :)
omg! i have the same electric piano as you!! :D about the walking base you played at the time 5:03 what were the notes in the left hand?? plse comment :D lorikins12 p.s please put the notes not chords :D

@lorikins12 On the C chord it's C-C-Eb-E-G-G-A-G and on the F it's A-A-C-D-Eb-Eb-D-C. I'm working on another video using this pattern right now - should get it posted later today or tomorrow.
