It's just another way for eBay to charge additional fees by promoting higher final value fees associated with the total price when you use "free shipping". Theft is the word, greed is the reason. At least Meg never did this crap!
i m getting fucking tired of this ebay shit. i have been a seller on ebay for the past 10 years and now i already quit selling on ebay. fucking ripping sellers in every possible way. ebay actually suck buyers dicks. they dont kare about sellers. if thats hows their attitude is and if it remains like this, they r surely gonna go down. they r doing this becuz they dont have a big competitor. i hope some big company comes up and beat this greedy bastard ebay company.
I use Craigslist as much as possible to avoid ebay fees. I am so sick of those bastards jacking up the fees. I remember a time it was fun, and even a joy to be a seller. They have taken that fun away by overcharging people. Can't wait until they have some real competition. Ebay deserves what they will get.
@djBC10000 - face to face, be careful but cash is the only way to go. Always meet in a place that there is people around. I meet them at restaurants as a rule.
@djBC10000 We make html ads. It becomes easy with a little time. That way your pics are decent. Say about 1 paragraph. I usually (if something is mechanical) give a 48 hour right to return for refund. We use a google voice phone number. That number can be set so no one can wake you in the middle of the night and it's anonymous. And yes, cash only when they come to pick it up. :) You can sell almost anything on craiglist. Good luck! :)
The reason Ebay did that change is to prevent sellers from using higher shipping charges & low bids/BINs in order to avoid paying Ebay fees. Their motivation is actually reasonable. At the same time, they are grabbing any angle they can to keep revenue up as the economy has hit the buyer base pretty hard.
I don't like it either but we have to deal with it. At the end of the day, the cost is still passed onto the buyer. Estimate your shipping and add 10-15% to it, simple as that.
@StickyickyX - your right because any good business person will pass the cost, just to stay in business - good point. Jack - I know they say is is getting better but I do not think it will. I think the worst is to come.
I used yahoo auctions back in the day to save on fees but the items sold for less/not at all/ or the bidder didn't pay! This is what you come up against with the ebay wanna bes. i hate ebay and always will for their greed but show me a better site! Amazon is pretty good.
tried selling some stuff over 200$ on ebay.....never again D: i put it up as a 50$ profit from what i had purchased it at. and before it was over. im in the negatives. completely negating the fact that i sold it in the first place... i dont want to be paying to give my stuff away. i thought the whole purpose of ebay was to turn a profit.. looks like the only ones stuffing their wallet is ebay...
@02mrjosh No, this is referring to ebay.com (the US site). I think they are still trying to grow the sites in the other countries... No harsh fees for them, YET...
@02mrjosh this is fucking bullshit! i sold a game on ebay for 35 dollars. i got 14 dollars and 4 cents out of my sale. Ebay took 20 fucking dollars from me!
i live over in the netherlands, i love the website m.a.r.k.t.p.l.a.a.t.s.n.l just leave the dots out, this website is free and it's big in the neatherlands but not out of the country so it's nice to sell the eassy stuff. but not the big expensive stuff this you need to sell on a bigger site.

don't hope ebay will reduce their fees, don't hope they will change their policies, they still the number one online auction venue, most people who want to get something online they go to ebay if you want to sell something your first thought is ebay, so how the fuck we will win over ebay? of course unless you avoid it but the 90% of ebay consumers don't notice these unfair ebay practices.
It is so fucking unfair, I do charge to my customers what the really shipping costs are, if a small flat rate box is $5.40 I do charge them that amount. but ebay like fucking shark comes and charges me a percentage, I know many sellers try to make money on shipping they charge $10 but they pay $3 to $5 but with this shit it will get even worse, if they used to charge $10 now it will be $20, ebay does this because they still on the top and will stay there for many more years so, they don't care.
I sold 8 item on ebay for 0.99 and my bill from ebay and paypal is $8.35....hahaha....I am selling for them....hahaha....and I owe them money.....hahaha
I've been selling on ebay for years but this last change has made me come here to Ebay has constantly raised and adjusted the fees in their favor. I have a 100% rating and my items are often listed below most others in the search, probably because I don' t pay for a store. There practices are shady and should be challenged in a court.
They do border being a monopoly, however, there are other sites out there. We just need a grass-roots effort to build traffic away from eBay onto a single alternative auction site. The problem is there is no clear number 2, and the people fed up with eBay are going different directions. This makes it hard to get eBay like traffic anywhere else... -Vince
i'll just put in my description why the raise in shipping, because of new ebay fees on shipping. we end up paying for part of shipping to start with right now. now with this new fee, we will have to pay for more of the shipping.
yes, with ebay you need a smoke afterwards because you are going to get screwed up the ass big time now. then they say that you can list 50 items free a month. bull, you are actually paying for it after all the fees. ebay has become very greedy now. i sent them an email and have not gotten a response back. i am considering now jacking up my shipping prices. screw the feedback.
@petshopboy1 That's what I have had to do. I'm going to switch between high shipping costs and free shipping every now and again so I can have halfway decent feedback though.
ebay will not charge a fee on the international shipping price. if you sell a iternational item the shipping fee is caculated on the domestic shipping price not the intrenational price.. if you have fee shipping for the usa then ebay will not charge any fvf on the international shipping price if sold international.
@oicu814me2 : That is great news, and it will make it easier to handle this new fee on shipping. As we use a calculator for domestic shipping, do you know what zip code they will base their fee on? -Vince
@PickersInc11 im not sure i think i read it will be the lowest domestic shipping cost. what ever that may mean. i am raising my prices and adding free domestic shipping. international people will just have to pay more. not really a fair system for buyers outside the USA. that way i will get my 20% discount on the full amount. if you dont have free shipping you will only get the 20% discount only on the asking price and pay full % FVF on the shipping cost.
1:15 2.9 % + .30 cents not 30%, but otherwise I made a fortune shafting buyers on shipping lol, these policies were set in place to deter folks from selling .99 cent items at close with no reserve & earning $30 or $40 profit on the shipping., Also if you have an eBay store the 9% shall drop to "Only" 7.5% + your eBay store.
@Begbucks - Thanks for the correction, I misspoke on the video with the Paypal fee, you are correct 2.9% + .30. You can see it all broken down in black and white on our blog post at pickersinc(dot)com
Yes, eBay store owners get a slightly lower Final value fee percentage. However, for big ticket items, non-store owners are capped at a maximum FVF of $50. Store owners have no cap, and will pay a percentage across the ENTIRE sale. The complexity of fees is another big problem! -Vince
@PickersInc11 Np Vince..we all tongue slip, happens all the time. That $50 cap however, I believe will be shed July 6th, it's ridicules, I feel your pain.
i personally dont know what to do anymore...i know after my next 3 auction's are up im going to stop using ebay...everything about it sucks...the people, the fee's just....everything...
ioffer (dot) com seems like a good site for selling, haven't tried it yet but it is completely free to list and sell items besides paypal fee's of course. I am also sick of ebay fee's.
As a business owner and ex-computer guy, completely free worries me a bit. The programming, computers, internet, and support costs money. If a company charges nothing, they will not be able to handle the future. I think the business plan at onlineauction is sound, and as they grow, they will be able to upgrade the infrastucture as needed. This is why they are my eBay alternative recommondation.. -Vince
Ebay used to be great......its on its last leg. Since they went corporate its been a steady progression into ripping off members for more and more fees. Biggest mistake was the BUY IT NOW and EBAY STORES. It has sucked ever since this.
It seems shipping should be left alone. I just dont understand it. What will they charge us for next? your ideas are appreciated and will check them out. We are all in this togeather. I have found that people in this type business will overcome everytime. Like the great hunters from long ago. lol
They say they are implementing the final value fee on shipping costs "To encourage low cost shipping to prevent sellers from hiking up their shipping costs."
Amazing they are only concerned about this issue now. They are NOT concerned about protecting buyers from overpriced shipping costs because the fee thats taken out isn't given back to the buyer, it's going into feebays pocket.
Paypal has always charged their 2.9% on the shipping, but the eBay final value fee never touched the shipping and handling.
