  • i dump my mesh data in the skyrim data folder and that worked but i imported anything was a .nif at the end and it comes up with "no appropriate import module found"then'' Improper file format'. I can get the .obj files to work .i think i have all the some formats as these guy. i need help

  • @blackjackarcher13 I had same problem you have to copy NifSkope files into 3DSMAX installation folder and when it asks to copy and overwrite just say no. it should work then. id did for me

  • What Am I doing wrong when my custom weapon is invisible in creation kit? I get no error messages and i cant really find anything wrong by comparing it with an already existing weapon in nifskope. (it is visual in nifskope btw) Cheers!

  • It's too bad none of these videos explain how to import .nif files. I go from one useless video to the next. It's just "click on import, then click on your .nif file" and then I rage quit.

  • @officerbeardontcare I have made a custom model and managed to get it ingame, but it doesn't appear to be rigged to any bones. It just stays motionless against the floor when NPC or I have it equipped, even while running. What am I missing out?

    And this happens with any .nif file I try to load. Help?

  • Wow! finally a tutorial that actually explains what to do! I was having problems importing models in the CK but with what you showed it all worked perfectly. Really wish it wasn't that complicated to simply get a model in there. The Unreal Engine doesn't have that problem... Well anyway I can't thank you enough from saving me from more banging my head against a brick wall. :D

  • A question to anyone with knowledge of making custom weapons: Does the size of the custom mesh make any difference when you are trying to put it into the game? (Say the mesh is vastly bigger or smaller than the mesh you are replacing) If so, is there a way to re-size the custom mesh? And does anyone know any "rules" that the mesh has to follow/what can you can push about it so it will be able to be used?

    I did it , you don't have to do just reskins.

    But you can do all-new weapons.

    Just drop a random weapon like a silver sword , doubleclick , art and sound , and switch choose a new weapon model , wich is in the data/meshes/weapons/Yourweapon­name

    so why you copy the entire branch into your own and this other intricately stuff? scaling of the blood effekt is also not necessary noob!

  • Everyone to solve some of your problems, I would suggest on getting the creation kit on steam! (But this guy's tutorial is very explanatory and helpful) The CK is a whole lot more simple! Good Video Man!

  • @ecto5380 Not if you want to retexture or remodel. The currently do not have a way of doing so. (If they do please tell, I have spent over 10 hours playing with it and watched the tutorial and have seen nothing about this)

  • When I import the firstpersonlongsword.nif it says "No appropriate import model found" then it says "Improper file format"

    I've been trying to figure this out for the past 2 hours and I don't understand, I have done everything your video has said and description has said and its not working. I have even been on forums and sites trying to get it to work. Any idea whats wrong? (the files wont even show up under the import thing unless I select all files under file type)

  • @Khamis1203 What do you mean? This is the process to getting custom things into game. The asset creation side of it is up to you.=)

But I was wanting to make take a weapon from the mod "weapons of the third era" and make it have a higher stat, is there a way to edit the stats of the weapon? If not, is there a way to take that weapon, and then make it replace a vanilla model?

  • For all of you who can't import NIFS into 3DSMAX/Blender, you have to get the NIF Tools from the link supplied in the description. Make sure you're using the proper version of said programs as well! (3DSMax 2012, Blender 2.60) IF you're not, chances are pretty high that the import plugins wont work! AND NO, this process is not easier with Creation Kit. Bethesda themselves have yet to create a proprer nif program themselves for modders! So this is a very primitve method. Still.

  • @collinpaddock hi , you have to use nifskope to change the files to .obj then you will be able to open it in 3dmax ha well it seems to work for me so good luck:)

  • @ajf100 go the student version of the Autodesk website, make an account, and now you can download whatever program you want for free. You have a 3 year license on each program.

  • Ok I managed to get the texture to show up! And the new weapon works perfect in game. The problem was when I copied the BSlightingShaderProperty over to my new weapon I didnt remove the old property from FNV. Once I swapped it over, it worked fine. Thanks for this tutorial! Cheers!

  • I tried this tutorial with a weapon I made for FNV. It worked, I got the weapon in game. But the textures I assigned in Nifscope don't show up.They show up in Nifscope just fine though. Is there a way to fix this? Great Tutorial btw

  • I have a problem. Im doing everything right but when i try to import my texture to the new .file it just doesn't work. I cannot see it on my model, i cant apply it on it.

  • How do you edit the specular mask?

  • @sergyu2500 You edit the Alpha channel of the normal map. White - Super shiny. Black - flat and not shiny at all. All the grays in-between them: different power of the shine.

  • When I try to add jaysus swords mod where do I put the meshes folder and the textures folder?

    I have tried putting it in /data but to no avail do I need to add them to the appropriate .bsa(inside the /data folder)?

  • @DementedPingu You put the meshes and textures folders from the mod archive into your skyrim/data folder.

  • @lsmbird I do know how but it's not in the scope of things I would cover in my videos. This channel is about doing the game art side of things. Not the content side. Also: Content is much more tedious than art before the ck is out. I'd suggest waiting the few weeks before the CK is released before trying to get new assets it. This stuff is all just about getting valid .nifs.;)

  • @lsmbird It is possible without the CK, but it is very hard. You can find a tutorial on skyrimnexus. Most of the time doing it, you will be "working blind".

  • I get this problem when I try to save as .nif: i0imgur0com/flCpa0png (replace 0's with dots) It still DOES save the file, and when I put it in game, I can take it from a chest, equip it, but when I exit inventory screen it crashes. Any idea what's going on? All and any help is aprreciated.

  • @shadowtroop110 I have not followed the tool development for blender, but I have seen some people have success with blender. So I'd say yes. =)

  • Hi is there any way how you can edit for example Nocturnal Robe, It is bugging me that the nocturnal robe is glitching with female right leg when in 3rd person idle stand. I was hoping just to change the shape a little and that should fix it. :)

    Also I am wondering if this would be possible in nifscope or do I need other program to do that. Thx D13

  • Well this is great, but this actually doesn't say how to get the mesh into Oblivion. How to get it from the nif into the hand of my character that is. I saw a couple of tutorials and it just breaks my head.

  • @JedoDre If you replace a nif that already exists it will just show up. The new item data is not in my interest to do as it's a lot of hex edit until they release the creation kit. I'll cover it after those tools are released.

  • @officerbeardontcare But that means the old nif has to be sacrificed, right?

    Anyway, in the mean time I decided to make all the models I want to make and once the official tools get released I can try to put it in correctly.

  • Thanks so much for this video! It's helped me get a lot further on my mod. I'm still stuck in one aspect though, I'm trying to add a new potion bottle texture to the game as a new object, I"ve managed to get the new item in the game (with the same texture and mesh as the white phial), and to get the white phial's nif into nifskope.

  • @natildespot I've made my .dds texture and em map, but I'm not sure how to get the textures on the new object, without starting from a totally new mesh. I know that I can point to the new nif once I save it in the data folders, even with the .nif and new textured named the same, it seems they still wont work unless they've been attached in nifskope.

  • @TheJester39 The .obj was a sword that I had already made and exported as an obj. It's just a simple file format for models. Once I get through all of the basic import/export tutorials, I'll record a video on actually creating the sword. Cool?

I downloaded someones CONAN sword but its 2 handed I would like it to replace 1 handed steel swords or even just make it 1 handed and keep it as an unique item.     I successfully managed to replace a model, but my custom baked textures are not working as they should. Texture is loaded and displayed, but doesn't match the model geometry. Is there a way to fix that?

  • @KanpuK You need to set your texture path in the shader properties. Make sure you point to your own textures! When you copy the block it will initially have the textures from the old model assigned. ;)

  • I went though this, and ran into a slight issue, the model works in game but, they textures won't load. I guess the UV Map is messed up? any idea how to fix it? 3ds runs it fine.

  • @TheJackdaws22 Could be uvs and could be misassigned textures. Did they show up when you were in NifSkope?

  • @Kurosaki826 I have not been following the maya model exporter development as I'm not a maya user. All of the steps that are not in Max can be applied to any other export process though. I'll investigate the maya tools at lunch and let you know. =)

  • @mustangdude187 You can rename them an create item data for them, but to my knowledge, the stats are still not figured out apart from cost. Soon!

  • @TheUser38 you can use a custom directx shader inside of max to view your model in the viewport with textures. You might be able to export the cubemap from skyrim into the shader for accurate in-game reflections.
