Yes it does make it a little better especially when you are in sport mode, but I still notice the occasional hesitation when taking turn. The tuner also allows you to choose a percentage for the transmission pressure which makes it's shift harder. In fact, I had mine set to only 25% and when I floored it from a dig, it would chirp shifting to 2nd.
@CSRAProductions I got the tuner from a member on a a G8 forum that I belong to called grrrr8.net. I bought the Vararam cold air intake from a sponser on the website. You should check it out, there is LOTS of good information on G8's
@tallerthanormal I bought mine used from someone on the one of the G8 forums. Now I wish I had a custom tune because it will gain you more HP, but I didn't want to be tied down to a particular performance shop if I had problems. Yes the main reason I bought the SC tuner was to disable the DOD. When my car was stock I couldn't tell it was switching from 4 to 8 cyl, but when I added exhaust, I could hear it and it was annoying. Yes I prefer transmission stock for daily driving.
So I am thinking about getting one for my 06 Charger but I'm kind of worried about fucking something up. Is there like a "reset to factory settings" option?
@DJK290 Yes you can reset back to stock. In fact, the Superchips tuner has to download your stock tune settings before it will let you install your superchips tuned settings.
That's pretty awesome, do you think I should go find someone who knows more about it or is it pretty straight forward. Seemed easy in the vid but a handful of the options I didn't understand. Not a big car junkie, I just like to drive them. I was going to buy a Cold Air Intake from a different brand but I have to get the Vararam one yes?
When you did this video were you just looking to make it faster or trying to tune to your personal preferences?
@DJK290 It was a little intimidating at first but knowing what I know now, you really shouldn't have anything to worry about. I mainly bought my Superchips so I could disable my AFM(active fuel management) 4cyl vs 8cyl mode, but I also wanted to see if it would make the transmission a little better. It was worth it to me because the car is much better than stock, throttle response is better too. It doesn't compare to getting a tune at a performance shop, but it's cool to be able to change it
@DJK290 Superchips has other CAI's to choose from too, I don't know all of them but I know you can get Vararam, Rotofab, K&N, and some others. They are purchased through superchips when you hook up your tuner to your PC. My Vararam tune was only about $2.99.
@DJK290 Yes they are model specific however the same tuner covers several different models. You should go to the superchips website or call them to find out what you need.
@rvsharp No the Vararam tune is not already loaded. You will need to hook your tuner up to your computer first, and then you will need to purchase the air intake tune which is only about $3-4 while the tuner is still hooked up to the PC. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe you have to install the performance tune in the car first, once that is installed, then you should be able to install Vararam93 etc tune. If you have problems, email or call superchips. They helped me out with a similar issue.
@jb102310 Thanks for the info, I mainly wanted to turn off the afm because the drone from the Magnaflow cat back is annoying. I think this is the only tuner out there that allows you to enable/disable active fuel management.
@rvsharp Funny you say that. That is the same reason why I initially bought SC tuner too. I didn't notice it when I had stock exhaust, but I installed Borla Cat back, I had that strange drone too. I know exactly what you are talking about.
@jb102310 Are you going to add headers at some point? I am leaning towards Kooks mid length 1 7/8'' with hi flow cats, but I am worried about a check engine coming on with hi flow cats. Good luck with your car!
@rvsharp I wasn't planning on adding headers to this car, but you never know. I had a GTO before I got my G8 and I had headers, exahaust, cam, tune and it was fun, but I just don't know if I want to do that all again. I have heard good things about the kooks headers though.
@jb102310 I just wanted to let you know that I installed the Vararam Superchips tune and wow! It really seemed to wake the car up. The trans shifts much better with torque management set at 25%. So far I am happy with it, but you know modding cars is a sickness! Later
@rvsharp That's awesome to hear that you are so happy with it. I love mine too. Throttle response is much better too. Most importantly, the DOD/AFM is not annoying anymore with my Borla catback since I disabled it. Enjoy life, and enjoy the car.
I wish I could have seen a video before I bought mine too, but it was really pretty easy. Not sure if you are buying NEW or USED superchips, but if you are buying used, make sure that the person you are buying the tuner from has returned the their car back to stock or you won't be able use the tuner without paying superchips $100 to reset it. Other than that it's just a matter of downloading the Superchips program from their website, creating an account, and downloading the CAI tune.

@raulred93 No this tuner is only for GM cars and trucks

^^ Bump ^^
Did you buy yours new or used? Wondering if you still like it as much or are leaning toward a custom tune at this point lol
Do you usually drive around with just dod tuned off and shift/transmission set to stock?

how much horsepower does it actually give you
jakevanella11 11 months ago
@jakevanella11 I haven't actually had it dyno'd but if I had to guess I would say maybe 30-35 with the air intake and catback exhaust that I have.
jb102310 11 months ago
Can this tuner tune the G8 for a cam upgrade? Like a livernois stage 1 cam?
DanSVT03 11 months ago
@DanSVT03 I'm no expert or mechanic, but I would have to say NO it won't work for CAM. You would be better off getting a true performance tune.
