people on youtube need to invest time into the history of the sport of boxing an they will all find out theres more to Boxing then Mike Tyson since mikes videos get so many views
my Grandmother danced with Marciano back when Marciano was alive probablly right around the tim he was in his prime he was the greatest ever an him an Ali would hev been a good match as for Joe Louis he would destroy Tyson Holyfield in his prime Louis was a Negro living in a white mans world an he hated it he was quite on the outside but when he stepped into that ring he unloaded all that fury an rage onto his opponents is why Joe Louis an Marciano are 2 of the top 5 greatest ever
Rocky did what few men could handle. Joe might have been over the top, but he was KO'd in grand fashion. Rocky's best KO, better than the Joe Walcott KO. He would have lost against a prime Joe, though. Nobody beats a prime Joe.
Rocky Marciano was good, but compared to Joe Lewis, Rocky Marciano aint shit. Joe lewis was 75 years old when he fought. Joe lewis allways lied about his age.One time Frank Sinatra sit down in this chair and i said "Frank you know Joe Lewis just between me and you how old is joe lewis" 137 years old !!!!!!! Fuck You I have met Frank Sinatra!!!!!!!!!
ppl should watch joe louis movie ..it talks about this he needed money .. so he got out of retirement and started fighting again ... he was out of shape here ...the movie called america great betrayal ? i think
1947 Mar 17 -- Lee Epperson, Holyoke, MA -- KO 3 (First Pro Fight) 1948 Jul 12 -- Harry Balzerian, Providence, RI -- KO 1 Jul 19 -- John Edwards, Providence, RI -- KO 1 Aug 9 -- Bobby Quinn, Providence, RI -- KO 3
August 23, 1946 Joe DeAngelis L 3 (amateur fight) Rocky was paid January 17, 1947 Bob Girard L 3 (pro fight) Rocky was paid March 1, 1948 Coley Wallace L 3 (pro fight) Rocky was paid
Rocky Marciano fought a 37 year old and over the hill Joe Louis. If Marciano woul dhave met Louis during the reign of the Brown Bomber , he would have been beaten badly even though Rocky had that abilty to put you out with one shot.
@MrTufflong You must be joking. We never saw Bruce Lee in a real fight. On what do you base that Bruce Lee would floor any boxer from any point in history? Bruce Lee had speed, but his footwork came from Muhammad Ali. He was physically strong, but that says nothing. I think he would win from a heavyweight in a streetfight, not every heavyweight, but from most, but most streetfighters could. How do you eve think about saying that Lee woud whopp any heavyweight. Thats freaking DUMB.
To bad there lying saying that Rocky Marciano was never beaten. HE GOT BEAT BY COLEY WALLACE!!!!! THE MEDIA LIES....not trying to sound racist but the white media back then wanted to make it known that the "white man" was unbeatable, and coerced people into believing it by shunning the facts. Make sure you look up COLEY WALLACE if you dont believe me.

@strictlycomments Louis in his prime was a better fighter than Marciano in his prime. You're right that he would have been more aggressive. He also would have been faster, stronger and harder to hit. They were both great fighters but a young, explosive Louis would have been too big and strong for Rocky to handle.
@sandman1347 I disagree, a short tub of a tough guy named Tony Galento; armed w/only a left hook, gave Louis trouble, backed him up and knocked him down, hurting him a number of times in their fight during Louis' prime. Louis wasn't "too big & too strong" for a 167lbs Billy Conn, who was whupping his ass for 12 rds, or a smaller Arturo Godoy, who bulled Louis around for 15 rds. Louis was NOT superman, he didn't have the greatest chin and he would've walked INTO Marciano. RM was stronger than JL.
@ajbhsagf While we will never really know these things. As far as matchups of all time greats go, this one seems easy to sepculate on. Ali was bigger with better handspeed and footwork and a better jab. I feel pretty confident Ali would stay on the outside, dancing and peppering rocky with jabs and the occasional 1-2. Ali by UD 9 times out of 10.
@MeAndMyFamily1992 Had to, man, gotta spell it out for these guys. I comment bcz I enjoy it, and enoy responding to replys in hopes of a civil debate on a subect that is really speculation. It's subjective speculation, but thats ok. I only get irate when cowardly punks respond w/disrespect, vulgarities, and insults. Easy to do when they're hiding in anonymity, somewhere in cyberspace.
All that scientific shit means nothing. Bruno land s overhand right and Rock is history.Rock beat up on old men. He would be a just a build up fight for 14-0 Ali. Even at 49-0 .
@RayPFP It means nothing??? Gee, thanks for coming along and clarifying that for the rest of us! Now, I know this may sound kind of funny, but...have you ever laced on a pair of boxing gloves and actually stepped foot in a real boxing ring, for a real sanctioned bout in your whiole entire life???
@RayPFP Should I play the " I asked you first" game, too?! Sounds like a "NO" to me. I've mentioned my experience on the same page ("Marciano vs Louis") where u were compelled to reply on my comment regarding Ketchel's knockdown of Johnson. I touched on it on page 2 of the comments,to imamflower(?), but was more extensive in previous posts - to make a point - on that same video. You can look, if you like, I'm not going to re-write it...
It's not very often you come across intellectual conversation in boxing talks. The majority of conversation are bitchy one-liners about PBF and Pacquio. I find myself stumbled across legendary old school fighters prior to my first fight tomorrow night (inspiration huntin' and what not) and i find great value. Not only have they inspired me but the "old-school spirit" in where people find value in legacy pushes me further.
@Jharaiz Good luck to you tonight! Chin down, hands up, and work his body too...think upstairs, downstairs! Not many body punchers out there anymore. A good body shot is like takin' a 2 mile run out of a guy! It'll hurt em', tire him out fast, add another dimension to the fight in ur favor, make him more apprehensive, and open him up upstairs. If you're a young fighter just starting out, work hard to make it part of ur repertoire, it'll make u a much better fighter!
louis by this point didn't care about boxing any more. at least not as much as he did in his prime. he made a brief comeback for the money and only the money.
@1oktay1 Marciano was definitely a harder puncher than big George. George was a clubbing puncher, who could hurt you with a punch, and then finish you(and this is according to Gil Clancy). Rocky could knock you out cold with one shot. Marciano's power came from the floor; starting w/incredible leverage, weight shift, trunk rotation, momentum, and inertia. His punch was measured at 1000 foot pounds of torque on a ballistic pendulum; enough force to lift 10000lbs 1 foot off the ground!
@lggriffin but have u ever saw george forman hitting the heavy bag. please go and watch forman training sessions for the rumble in the jungle he punched the shit of the heavy bag man. i cant belive that marciano would work on the heavy bag like forman.
@lggriffin but have u ever saw george forman hitting the heavy bag. please go and watch forman training sessions for the rumble in the jungle he punched the shit of the heavy bag man. i cant belive that marciano would work on the heavy bag like forman. forman demolisht fraizer and nortan.
@1oktay1 Saw it yrs ago. It's an old 60lb leather everlast bag. So small his trainer had to hold it for him, allowing him to really lean into it. Probably the only hvy bag on hand and not intentional. Marciano hit so hard that a 300lbs hvybag was custom made for him. Watch the last 3 punches Rocky hit Louis with, the one punch ko he hits Layne with, and the one punch ko he hits Walcott with. Then watch the numerous ones GF hits Frazier,Norton,&(especially)Lyle with. Then tell me who hits harder
@lggriffin no thats not ture forman used the biggest heavy bags around and he punched the bag so brutal that there was a dent in it. if u dont belive watch when we were kings where i trained in zaire 1974. boxing journalist said that they never saw some hiting the heavy bag like that
@1oktay1 Think you'd better go back, yourself, and watch the video, it was a small brown leather everlast heavybag. That ONE journalist in the interview said he never saw anyone hit a bag like that, but he didn't say who else he had ever seen hit a hvy bag. Also, hvy bags don't hit back so u can throw caution at the wind while punching them. I'm more interested in what professionals in the business(like Clancy, Louis, Dempsey, Foreman, Farazier, and Ali) had to say about hitting power...
@lggriffin I m Right on both accounts. Everyone (Bert Sugar, Ring Magazine, Eddie futch, Cus D'amato, Evander Holyifeld Dick Saddler, Jim Brown, Ray Mancini) agrees that the number 1 hardest hitter in heavyweight history was either George Foreman or Earnie Shavers those are the two contenders for the number one spot. Marciano hits harder, but no student of Boxing says he hits harder than Shavers or George. Oh and that test of Rocky Marciano's power? that story has been circling around for years
@lggriffin Kinda like the story of how Ali broke his jaw against Ken Norton in the second round and fought a full 15 round fight with a broken jaw? Yes that is false same as the MArciano story. Ali DID get his jaw broke but it was the last or semi last round of the fight. Stories like that about famous pros circle around all the time. They;re fun and inspirational to hear when gym rats like me and my buds used to train. Makes these pro seem bigger than life. Dont believe me? Find a credible sour
@l find a credible source of that test? Who witnessed that scientific Test of Marciano's power? Was it one trial or multiple trial, did they make sure to test this numerous times to avoid mistakes or sample error which is common in experiments? What was the method of testing; how EXACTLY did they measure his punch weighing 1000-10,000 pounds of pressure, are? What year was it? Even common sense? If that sotry was true, Marciano's fist would BREAK not only his opponents neck, but his own hand!
@lggriffin Use ur common sense and dont be blinded by bias hero worship. I heard the MArciano infamous story of people tested his power. Every iteriation "It was a heavy bag snesor, no it was a ball and chain! his power was 1000lbs! 1500! 2500! 10,000!" If Rocky REALLY hit that hard he'd break every bones in his hand, and INSTANLY kill his opponent with one glorious right hook. But please find a reliable published source of that story. key word: RELIBABLE. Rocky is great, but dont think him agod
@POTATER1228 Ok, Mr. "Gym rat", my common sense tells me u know nothing, & that u are a typical youtube boxing expert. Louis, Dempsey, Archie Moore, Charlie Goldman, and Gil Clancy All said Marciano hit harder and Foreman rated him #2 best of all-time, behind Louis. Ali, in an interview right here on youtube, admits that he doesn't know if he could've beaten Marciano. I'll put more weight on that distinguished, over ur list of experts over yours any day!
@POTATER1228 (Cont.) Marciano was a one punch ko artist & George, according to Gil Clancey(who was in his corner), was a clubbing puncher who could hurt u, & then would finish u. I've given examples of Marciano's 1 punch power(Walcott, Layne) & the 3 shots that almost decapitated Louis,as opposed to the many knockdowns of Frazier & Norton, & the 28 unanswered punches on Lyle in the 5th rd, while Lyle was helpless in the corner. Why don't u offer your examples to back up your claim GF hit harder?
@POTATER1228 Cont.) Lastly, I suggest u look up "infamous" as u are misusing the word. Guess u heard about it from a lot of people who didn't know. The Dec 1963 issue of Boxing Illustrated reported it, & that the U.S. Testing Co. was asked to measure the power of Rocky's punch. It found that Marciano's right hand packed more explosive energy than an armor-piercing bullet & represented as much energy as would be required to spot lift 1000 pounds one foot off the ground.
@POTATER1228 A ballistic pendulum measures torque, & u wouldn't break ur hand on it(U R obviously unfamiliar). I had seen that actual article yrs ago, & I saw it (a photocopy of the act. article, here on the internet) again about 3 mos ago. It's here, you find it. Also, "Boxing Illustrated" was/is a credible Boxing Magazine, far more credible in the sport of boxing than you'll ever live to be! Ring mag rated Marciano, Louis, & Dempsey the hardest punchers in 1997, so wut R U talking about?
@POTATER1228 Search Marciano on "wikipedia".Open the page & scroll down to the bottom at the "Reference and Notes" section. Click #16;"A picture of Marciano's punch test at Kolumbus.fi" It's a photo copy of the article from Dec of 1969 "Boxing Illustrated".Enlarge it to see the last paragraph in the article(begins in the lower right corner),re: test of Marciano's punch. Then click #17;"A further picture of Marciano's punch test at Kolumbus.fi" to finish the article. A reliable published source!
@POTATER1228 So there ya go! No "fallacy", Marciano's punch was indeed tested by U the US Testing Co.,& measured 1000 foot lbs of torque. And I appologize if you lack the boxing field experience, the capacity, or the ability to easily see the body mechanics, and the subsequent impact of the punches; which clearly convey that Marciano was a harder one punch hitter than George Foreman. He was indeed "a cat of a different breed". Here, outweighed by 30lbs,he easily bulls a 6'2", 214 lbs Joe Louis
@lggriffin The who? What company? I havent heard any such compnay exisitng. Can you show me proof of their existence and WHY in the hell would they bother testing Marciano's power? Were they a company made with sole intent of testing a boxer's power? You didnt even bother answering the rest of my questions I posted that seem like common sense? I've heard so many stories druing my training its unbelieveable. Like roberto duran punching out a horse on a drunken stooper
@POTATER1228 "The who? What company?" Is it your wish 4 me 2 treat u as if you have borderline intellectual functioning? I wrote the name of the co. in my prior post & how to look it up. If u didn't hear of any such company existing, it's likely bcz they existed b4 u were born, & are now defunct. Don't know why they bothered 2 test him, but they DID! Duran never punched a horse, but Rocky DID punch a ballistic pendulum. Read the article, everything I wrote was factual; 1000 ft pounds(.05 tons).
@Kerbee U know what's really funny? The number of "925 ft lbs" came from me, when I wrote it in a response to a science question several years ago. It was the number that I had recalled from a "Boxing illlustrated" article that I had read in 1969, and I was later quoted, verbatim, by Mike Casey, in his "Art Of The Big Punch" Article. I was incorrect, he wasn't tested at a "military installation" he was tested by "the US Testing Co.", and the measurement was indeed 1000 foot pounds!
@POTATER1228 There IS info on the net regarding tests on Frank Bruno,Foreman, and Tyson in the 1980's. Bruno scored highest, Foreman was next, and Tyson came out 3rd in terms of one-punch power(Bruno came in at .04 of a ton of foot pounds, which would be 800 ft lbs). Foreman reportedly said;"I wouldn't wanna get hit by Frank", after the test. Interesting to note that Bruno hit harder w/1 shot than GF, and Marciano hit harder than Bruno. Equals: Marciano hit harder than Foreman, just as I said!
@POTATER1228 I do wish u people would know wut ur talking about b4 u go off half-cocked! You can google the Bruno test, as it was actually conducted by the British Medical Journal, and appeared as; "The Damaging Punch British Medical Volume 291 21-28 December 1985". It is quite legitimate, even showing photos of Bruno, and the equipment /ballistic pendulum used. His raw score was 0.4 tons , as I stated earlier. No story, this is the real McCoy, Kid! Open mouth, insert foot! Goodbye!!!
@POTATER1228 I do wish u people would know what ur talking about before you go off half-cocked! Open mouth, insert foot! Good bye!!!
@lggriffin Kid listen to me. show me an article of Rocky Marciano doing the test. With documents and interviews about it. Show me the proof. Post a link. dont comment send me a message. there might be a test, but I've heard stories of ALL KINDS of different ways they tested the Rock's power. And a lot of sports tests have been disproven for being fault over the decades. Even the computer they used for the Superfight has been scoffed at. But really look at the date 1985? Rocky died in 69
@lggriffin Look people have tried all kinds of way to measure athletic performances? Why becasue its difficult. Too many variables to consider and a hard way to record it. The test was from 1985. You dont think people have changed things to make it more accurate? Look The Rocky story as you've told it doesnt make logical sense. If rocky really hit that hard, he'd break every bone in his hand. Foreman, Shavers, and Liston all hit harder than Rocky. no Professional disagrees with that statement
@POTATER1228 All info is w/in the contents of the comments I've posted, & how u can google them. Rocky was tested in 1955 & it was reported in a 1963 issue of "Boxing Illustrated". Bruno was tested in 1985, & it was in the British Journal Of Medicine. Rocky scored higher on the ballistic pendulum than Bruno, & Bruno scored higher than GF & Tyson. Equals: Rocky hits harder than GF & Tyson! A ballistic pendulum measures the ENERGY required to move something, not the actual MASS. No broken hands!
@lggriffin Kid... all you put was a google search to a certain "ballistic pendulum test" a test that Could have existed back in Marciano's time. But... As i've said, in my gym days there were many different variations on what test it was. Also if this pendulum test is used, it measures "ex[plosiveness" not just blunt trauma. if it said Foreman hit less than MArciano it needs to take into account the way which he hits. Rocky is Explosive + blunt. Foreman =blunt. And Foreman was OLD at the time
@lggriffin of this supposed test! And also Although I DO enjoy boxing illustrated, not everything in it is 100% accurate nor true. Sometimes its exagerrated to promote fighters. One Boxing illustrated issue depicted Ali with his "underwater training" where he would throw punches underwater for training.... Ali at the time never had such a regiment, and in fact didnt even know how to swim. Also like I said its difficult to measure a boxer's punch through such a scientific means, which is why
@lggriffin there have been multiple ways over the years to test it. These tests are a quarter centrury behind! And If it says Frank Bruno (the nobody heavyweight of the 80's) could score higher than Foremna or tyson, you know something isnt 100% accurate. There are too many mechnaics in a punch to measure power. Not just force but accuaracy and angle that changes the punch completely. As I said, Its univerallsy agreed upon that Marcniao is Strong, but Shavers, Foreman and liston was harder.Basic
@POTATER1228 Now I remember you, KID, you're the guy who wouldn't concede that Tyson was definitely more ripped against Mcneeley than he was against Berbick,Spinks, etc. U wouldn't concede that Tyson used HGH or steroids, which he did.U have NO credibility! I am 52, fought nearly 40 fights, won a hvywt GG title, my Dad won 5 GG titles, my brother won a GG title, & my son has won a GGtitle. I grew up around the fight game & never heard anything other than the 1 ballistic pendulum test on RM.
@POTATER1228 (cont) There was a pic of Ali in a pool throwing punches years ago. And the only people who "universally" agree that Foreman and Shavers were harder hitters, are the wannabes, like you! Every fighter in my generation & before, believe that Rocky woulda clobbered GF! GF fought tomato cans on his way to a washed up Frazier. He beat Jose Roman & Norton, who was himself a nobody who feasted on stiffs, until be beat an under-trained Ali. He then got beat by an over-the-hill Ali, powder
@ The pic in the pool was Ali yes, but he only did that for a press . He went into a pool to take the photos for his supposed "underwater training" when in reality he had no such routine. This was confirmed YEARS later. though. And those who universally thought Foreman or Shavers hit harder than Foremna were: Bert Sugar, Cus D' amato, Eddie Futch, Jim Brown, Ray Arcel. Really, I know your wrong, and until your willing to listen to another opinion shut it. Otherwise no point.
@POTATER1228 You don't know what your talking about, kid, the ballistic pendulum test on Bruno didn't lie! Look it up if you like ; "The Damaging Punch", in the British Medical Journal. It was test conducted to gauge the impact of a damaging punch & what it does to the brain, Mr. Knowitall! For people like you, even seeing isn't believing! You're just a naysayer! Bruno was a huge muscular man who weighed 247lbs for Tyson2. He had far more lean muscle mass than GF. The fact that he hit harder
@strictlycomments Really You are refuted a lot of things that experts and fellow boxers have believed for decades. Which is fine, no one is gonna trouble you fot that. But the burden of proof for you to prove these things is really on you. Against you. So unless you can disprove a lot of what you said in the face of many exeprts and anaylsis before you. Your not gonna proof anything. So your in the minority. Your gonna need a lot of proof to help your claims. And being a little more humble helps
@POTATER1228 (cont.) than GF in a 1 punch test, doesn't mean that he could've ever beaten GF! Ur problem is that you can NEVER concede a point! I learned that long ago, when a film showed that u were wrong about Tyson being more ripped against McNeely & u weren't a big enough man to admit it! Ur problem here is, u can't debunk the test, but if u admit it, you'll be admitting that RM hit harder than GF too, which means ur wrong again! We shood just believe u over a scientific test, huh?! G'bye!
@POTATER1228 1 more thing! I lost my password to another acct about a yr ago&opened this 1. I found the password to the old 1 several mos ago&sometimes don't know which 1 I'm writing from, but the other is lggriffin. If I seem irate it's bcz I've endured enough of ur nonsense! I didn't just "google the test", & the test doesn't need to take into acct.; "the way he hits"! It measures impact...PERIOD! Could care less about ur names, they R WRONG! They were speculating, The BP actually measures!
@strictlycomments If you really need so many accounts to debate me wow. And if you think that. fine. Im not gonna convince you, your not convince me. I sent you proof, you didnt send me anything. Welp I guess we are at a draw here. carry on with your day
@POTATER1228 Your need for self-aggrandizement says a lot about you; I explained why I had 2 accounts & it had nothng to do w/debating U! If your so-called "proof" is that Sugar, D'Amato, Futch, Brown( football player?), & Arcel, said so, it's no proof at all! I offered scientific proof, statements of legendary fighters/common foes of GF, video examples, & statements of reputable boxing historians. You choose to dismiss these bcz u can't concede .Guess we can agree to disagree & that's about it.
@POTATER1228 (cont)powder punching Jimmy Young, & then looked horrible against Lyle.He had a 20 mo reign, when Ali exposed him as an unresourceful flash in the pan! He wasn't great & no one back then ever thought he could've fought Marciano(after his 1st run). 2nd run was more impressive, as he was more relaxed, not a head case, & was actually a better all around fighter. He got banged pillar to post by Holyfield, who was a blown up lt hvy, there's no way that he could've survived RM's onslaught
@cpfc4life1505 Wasn't invented then? Is 25 your age or your IQ? Must be your IQ, becuz your ability to understand and reason, is more consistant with that of an 8 year old! The ballistic pendulum was invented in 1742, Mr. Einstein, and is a device used to measure velocity, torque, and momentum. It WAS used by the US Testing Co. to measure Marciano's punch. If you could read, you'd see my prior posts, where I provided the info , which was published in 1963, in "Boxing Illustrated". What a dope!
@lggriffin Marciano was not a heavier puncher than big George Foreman. He was knocking out contenders who didn't break 200 and 190 lbs. George on the other hand had to get dehydrated to make anything near 220.
@capablemachine Marciano's punch was measured at 1000 ft lbs in the 1950's on a ballistic pendulum. Frank Bruno, Foreman, and Tyson's were measured in the 1980's using the ballistic pendulum. Bruno scored hardest of the 3 w/1 punch. GF was 2nd, and Tyson was third. Bruno(hardest of 3)) scored 800 ft lbs. Equals= Bruno hits harder than Big George at 800 foot lbs, but Rocky hits harder than Bruno at 1000 ft lbs! Conclusion? Marciano hits harder than George for 1 punch power, you do the math!
@lggriffin Typical heresay and conjecture without any scientific evidence. Only Frank Bruno was tested with any measure of scientific method and he hit harder than Marciano's anecdotal test.
@capablemachine "When Marciano was destroying all challengers with his blockbuster assault, the U.S. Testing Co. was asked to measure the power of Rocky's wallop. Its findings:
Marciano's knockout blow packs more explosive energy than an armour-piercing bullet and represents as much energy as would be required to spot lift 1000 pounds one foot off the ground." Boxing Illustrated December 1963
Frank Bruno's test was reported in the "British Journal of Medicine", and measured .4 tons(800ft lbs)
@capablemachine The above quote/info regarding Marciano came out of December 1963 edition of "Boxing Illustrated", and is no more "heresay and conjecture" than the story about Bruno in the "British Medical Journal". Both stories had photos of the tests. There are stories online of GF and Tyson's results being lower than Bruno's with Big George reportedly saying; "I wouldn't wanna get hit by Frank". The scientific evidence of those tests is more elusive, but not unbelievable. Bruno was a huge man
@strictlycomments If Marciano hit so hard as you say. Why couldn't he hurt former middle Lowry? A fighter that only weighed in at 177 and was 5'10. A former middle with more losses than wins. Many at ringside felt Lowry did enough to win first fight. He stood toe to toe with the Rock for 20 round without being knocked down or seriously hurt. Surely if the Rock hit with so much power as you and say, he would of ko'ed the former middle. Does Lowry stand toe to toe with GF or Bruno for 20 rounds?
@Freedom0467 "Marciano had a hard time putting ex welter Moore away. Moore was stopped by exhaustion".
Actually, Moore was stopped by a pair of left hooks! Moore and Charles were great defensive fighters who could've easily went the distance with, and maybe even beaten much slower GF. And Forte went on to say that Patterson, who weighed 185, was the hardest hitting fighter he ever faced, not Foreman. Now that's coming from a fighter that was in there with Foreman!
@capablemachine (cont.) who weighed 245lbs against Tyson. He was 25 lbs heavier than Young GF, and had more lean muscle mass. He scored numerous one-punch ko's in his career(moreso than GF; as GF was a clubbing puncher that hit & knocked down opponents numerous times before scoring ko's) and it's reasonable to believe that he hit harder than GF w/one punch.RM scored higher than FB in the recorded accounts of the tests. If u don't believe "Boxing Illustrated", then why believe anything in print?
@strictlycomments I don't care what some rigged test from the government says.Did Lennox Lewis take the test, how about Joe Louis? Surely these men hit harder than Marciano along with Shavers ,Liston, Tua,. You're trying to tell me Marciano hit harder then t hese men? I can't believe that. Charles a former middle went 15 with the Rock.NO way Charles stands toe to toe for 15 with GF or Liston. Look at the Applegate fight. Applegate sported a record of 11-14 and a 37-0 Marciano couldn't hurt him.
@Freedom0467 It wasn't a rigged test and the US Testing Co. was not owned by the government. Don't care what you believe, Marciano did hit harder- with one punch- than the fighters you listed. He had an ability to generate incredible torque/power even though he was lighter. Just as Pedro Martinez, at 170lbs, could hurl a fastball as fast as Clemens at 240lbs. Applegate ran like Hell, but let’s look at Foreman in the Young fight, he got knocked down and beaten by a powder punching Jimmy Young!
@strictlycomments Marciano had a hard time putting ex welter Moore away. Moore was stopped by exhaustion. The 42 year old went on to say Durrell "a light heavy"; was the hardest hitting fighter he ever faced not Marciano. Now thats coming from a fighter that was in there with Marciano.
@Freedom0467 Lowry didn't stand toe to toe, he ran like hell! Any fighter can stay the distance if decides to run, and not trade punches. Levi Forte did it with Foreman and he was 19-21-2. Yet Forte got ko'ed by Patterson in the 2nd , does that mean Patterson hits harder than GF? He said Patterson hit him harder than GF, so does that mean we're to conclude that he hits harder than GF? Forte was likewise a "former middle" and was much smaller than GF when they fought.
@strictlycomments Fucking dick. Lowry wasn't a runner. Nor was Applegate.Marciano said it himself that he could fight Lowry 100 times and 100 times they go to decision. Lowry as a former middle like most of Rocks opponents were.Marcian never fought anyone over 6'0 tall or over 200 in title fight. He's completely untested against fighters over 200 and over 6 feet tall in title fights.
@strictlycomments Joe Louis,Liston, Foreman,Tua, Shavers,Lennox Lewis, Bruno and a host of others hit harder than the Rock. Old man Moore said Lt heavy Durelle was the hardest hitter he ever faced. You're full of shit Strictly. You're an internet fraud just like your hero Marciano was a fraud. Take a look at his first 37 fights. Only name that stands out is a used up broke old Louis.
@strictlycomments ESPN must not of heard the U.S. T esting co. results. Because they have Tyson at #1 ,#2 Liston, #3 Louis #4.Big George and at #5 Marciano.
@strictlycomments Marciano is the most overrated champion ever. He only defended 6 times and average age of opponent was 35. He only ko ed old men and struggled doing that. Instead of fighting Patterson or a liston he decided to comeback to fight a fictional fight against ALi. But when Ali asked for a real one Marciano declined. Just like he with Patterson and forget about him fighting Liston. Heart? Marciano didn't have that. If he did he fights Patterson and Liston.
@strictlycomments If Marciano had all t he great power as you claim he ko's Lowry. A guy with more losses than wins . Lowry never ran from Marciano nor did Applegate. You're a liar. Building up Marciano like he's the greatest fighter ever. Ali and Louis have combined 48 title fights won.Marciano 6? You fucking jerk.
a young joe louis at his peak would beat marciano. i cant belive that the people think that he is one of the best of all time. roc is a great boxer on of the best heavyweights but he is still overrated
@1oktay1 You can't believe "the people" think it? Louis(himself), Dempsey, Ali, Frazier, and Foreman are all some of those very "people" who thought/think it.
Rocky buckles Louis' knees with an over-hand right(in the 1st round) @3:37, just before the bell sounds for the end of the round. Louis was seriously hurt and this is probably why he retreated from Rocky for the rest of the fight. It was the first time Louis ever retreated from anyone, he was always the "master stalker", as the commentator stated. Louis, at this age, had more wisdom.I think a younger Louis wouldn't have been as wise & would've walked right in.He would've been ko'ed even earlier.
@MERITMAN2008 You think Louis took a dive? That's an interesting theory and I never would've guessed! So you're saying that those last 3 Marciano punches - the ones that nearly tore Louis' head off - didn't really hurt him? And that Louis was faking it, or just "acting", like he was hurt when he went down? He should've got the Academy Award for that one!
Or maybe you; for coming up with this theory, should just get the "Jackass Of A Lifetime - Achievement Award"! HAHAHA!!!
@strictlycomments Yea do you know the cuntbag Rocco haters talk shit about Louis being old but don't ever fuckign mention young Joe was knocked the FUCK out by an OLD READY TO RETIRE Shmelling the first time they fought and when he won the second time Schmelling was even older!
@J0k3r4U That's a true story! And they always forget that Louis had his "bum of the month" club, and that Foreman(generally their other idle) fought more tomato cans than anyone, and that he failed to ko smaller fighters, w/losing records, just as I told the clown "Freedom0467" below
@strictlycomments Clown? You stupid redneck. Foreman fought "prime" Norton,
"prime' Frazier and fought Ali. What prime great did the Rock fight? Louis defended 25 times. He basically ran out of people to fight. Marciano chickened out and retired without accepting Pattersons offer for a fight.Marcaino was an old man beater. His biggest win was against Lastarza. Another tomato can..Walcott was 39, the oldest heavyweight champ a t the time. Moore was ancient. Marciano=protected fighter.
@strictlycomments Marciano was a cigarette smoker. He didn;'t have all the endurance you claim he had. You
re building Marciano up into something he wasn't. Take a look at the end of the Moore fight. Marciano was battered and gasping for air in interview. Moore was how old? Fucking jerk. Marciano knew it was time to retire. No way Floyd was getting a shot.Marcaino wanted no part of Floyd. Google it moron.
@Freedom0467 You nitwit, it's obvious that wut u know about boxing could be housed in a thimble. Patterson weighed between 160-170 at the time of Marciano's retirement, and Liston was an unknown w/only 12 fights; he hadn't even reached pre-lim status yet(I'm sure you don't even know what that means!). Prime Norton? Norton(like Foreman) fought all tomato cans, he was a nobody until he beat an undertrained, out-of-shape Ali. He got ko'ed by every big puncher he faced & drew w/Scott LeDoux, LOL
@strictlycomments Doesn't matter what Patterson weighed he challenged Marciano before Marcaino re tired and Marciano turned him down and re tired. That's ducking. You can't find any opponents the great Ali or Louis flat out ducked.Norton was out of his prime when he facd Scott. Norton resume blows Marcianos under the table. Nort on fought boxing greats while they were still in primes. Foreman unbeaten, Holmes unbeaten, Cooney You must be on crystal meth old man.
@strictlycomments You have a way of ducking the big questions Strictly. What prime great did the Rock ever face? You're delusional, you say Norton fought bums. So I guess Holmes , a guy who defende 21 times ,and not 6? In your weak mind is a bum. Ali , whom most consider the greatest heavy that ever lived , was a bum also. How about Foreman? Was he a bum also? You stupid old fool. Norton second tier opponents blows Marciano 's weak oppisition under the table.
@Freedom0467 U R a delusional, feeble-minded little twerp! Patterson never challenged Marciano, u chump, he was a middlewgt when Marciano retired! I get a kick out of u wet behind the ears, no-nothing little punks, who try to recreate history! Norton was a bum, Foreman fought tomato cans, and Holmes was the best of the bums; he got decked by the likes of Renaldo Snipes! Ali was the common denominator 4 these bums, he was the only true great of his era, he beat all these bums out of his prime!
Norton got ko'edby every big puncher he faced. Well Marciano never faced a big puncher , now did he? The only big puncher Marciano faced was Louis. Louis had lost most of the power in right by the time he fought Marciano. Shavers, Foreman both ko the overated Marciano. Marcaino never faced one prime top tier puncher in his ent ire career. You can fool some of the people some of the times Strickly, just not all of them all the time.
@Freedom0467 You pretentious little dickwad, U couldn't box a dozen eggs and you don't know shit! Lowry and Applegate ran like Hell, as was described by spectators who saw the fight and was in the book "Marciano", by Everette Skehan. You didn't answer my question about Levi Forte, 19-21-2, a former middle who went the distance against Foreman. He got ko'ed by Patterson in 2, and said Patterson hit him harder than anyone. Does this mean Patterson hit harder than Foreman, you dumb fucking shit?!
@strictlycomments Holmes was a bum, and Marciano wasn't>? Let 's see Snipes was 7 years Holmes jr>? What unbeaten prime fighter did Marciano defend against. Last time I checked Larry defended 21 times. Marciano 6?Keep posting stupid. Let the world know just how ignorant you are. You st upid fuck, Patterson challenged Marciano before Marciano retired and Marciano turned Floyd down. Google it you stupid senial fuck.
@Freedom0467 Time doesn't rob a puncher of his punch, you dumb little bastard! That statement, coupled with the one where you claim Patterson; as a middlewgt, challenged Marciano, shows you have zero credibility! And all u Marciano bashers use the same stupid line; "Marciano never faced a top tier fighter/puncher". Ur a broken record, numb nuts! Why don't u come up w/something of ur own that's original? Walcott, Moore, and Charles would've beaten Norton & Shavers, easily, and maybe Foreman too!
@strictlycomments So what if Floyd was a middle. So was Charles,Moore,Cockell, and many of Marciano's other opponents. Majority of Marciano opponents were middles some ex welters. Most had lost at lower weights before facing Marciano. Google that you old fart you.
@J0k3r4U Louis was only 21 when he fought Max. Max was an ex champion wit h a lot of experience. Marciano didn't fight an ex champ until Louis. That was Marciano's 37th fight and Marciano was 27. Marciano at 24 fought and lost to, Henry Lester L-DQ 3
@J0k3r4U You make it seem Max was as old as Walcott or Moore. True Max was 9 years older than Joe.But that is deceptive because Joe was only 21 in first meeting. SO that made Max 30. That's still younger than Charles,Moore,Walcott, and Joe Louis when they faced Marciano.Max wasn't old. Louis was fighting higher tier fighters much earlier then what Marciano was. No comparison. Marciano didn't put the gloves on until after 21.
@J0k3r4UFloyd Mayweather Jr lost to Angel Manfreddy in the Olympics lol, in the amatuers shit is very easy to loose on points! It would be much easier to beat Marciano in 3 rounds on points than it would be in 15 LOL Joe was 37, and Rocky was 28. Even if they were both 28, if it came down to it Rocky's chin was way better than Louis, and so was Rocky's power. Louis was knocked out by Max Schmelling. Rocky would probably have killed Max Schmeling lol!
@strictlycomments You are a complete moron t hat hides out in this little corner building up Marciano a complete tomato can and old man beater. Everyone seems to know that except for you , Fucking impotent son of a bitch you..
true ..about joez weight and size joe had nothing to keep him off why?? joe had no "precision" to back up rocky because he was missing and sliding the important shots >> missing a inch away maybey 2 inches
on rockys jaw line>>and where the hell was joe louis speed ?who was this sloppy man in the ring???not joe louis joe louis will bomb you with combos

@imamfollower In all fairness, you're not going to see "the muscle" in this grainy, low quality, black and white film. Check out the colored clip; "Marciano vs Vingo". Still not the greatest quality, but you definitely can see the muscle mass of Marciano. My father was on the same New England Golden Glove boxing team as the Rock, and he said the man was extremely rugged and very muscular.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@imamfollower Don't think the Rock can hit?Marciano was grounded w/incredible leverage, and his body produced inhuman torque. You can't see it because it's generated within his body;starting from the canvas,up his legs, his weight shifts, his trunk rotates and his upper body is torqued by this action. The fist comes around with torque measuring 1000 foot lbs.(actual test result).Watch the effect of the last 3 punches he lands on Louis, compared to the 15 that Prime Mike Tyson lands on Pinklon Thomas
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@imamfollower Louis is the exact same size as Pinklon Thomas here. Despite what some Marciano naysayers have said, Louis was not fat(look at his waistline), and was in great shape for this fight. Notice how Marciano - 30 lbs lighter - easily bulls Louis all over the ring. He exceptional strength. He may be out-of-his prime, but he's only lost 2 bouts at this point in his career, and I still think this "Legendary" Joe Louis was far better than Pinklon Thomas...
I think Louis in his prime would have stopped the Rock. Not without a brawl of course, but Louis was a master boxer and a heavy hitter, the combination of which I think would have eventually overcome even the granite chinned Marciano.
3:12 RM slips to the outside of JL's left jab and then "follows it back in" to rest his head on JL's left shoulder - to begin throwing hooks to the head from outside JL's field of view, uppercuts to the head if JL bobs, and otherwise working the body...
RM also has phenominal timing of the slip to the inside of JL's left jab with and overhand right "along for the ride."
it would have been great if louis , marciano and ali were all in there primes at the same time. i think the man who one the first fight would always be in trouble for the rematch.
ahhhhh.....you're forgetting that Ali took 15 rounds of Shavers best and 7 of Foreman's best and......the point is that they hit harder than Rocky and couldn't k.o. the greatest. neither would The Rock..............
@jackstein104 is that so? why don't you do some research first? rock was being outfought by art henri in 1951, in his next fight, he had his hands (gloves) full with willis applegate who had fought twice in the previous 2 years and couldn't even knock him down! the combined records of these two was 24-29-3, don't you think rock should have k.o'd them in 1 or 2 rounds? henri, lastarza and charles weighed 185 and he couldn't put them away early as the the "hardest pucher of all time" should have.
@ztztzyzy you know what, lastarza pretty much only fought guys with quick fists and no fucking chins, plus: ted lowry!! the guy had the shittiest record and lastarza still couldn't knock him out. and the fucking henri fight is a perfect example, henri was kicking the shit out of him and rock landed TWO shots that fucked him up for the rest of the night and eventually got TKOed. and you say henri was a PFP harder puncher?? BULLSHIT.
people on youtube need to invest time into the history of the sport of boxing an they will all find out theres more to Boxing then Mike Tyson since mikes videos get so many views

my Grandmother danced with Marciano back when Marciano was alive probablly right around the tim he was in his prime he was the greatest ever an him an Ali would hev been a good match as for Joe Louis he would destroy Tyson Holyfield in his prime Louis was a Negro living in a white mans world an he hated it he was quite on the outside but when he stepped into that ring he unloaded all that fury an rage onto his opponents is why Joe Louis an Marciano are 2 of the top 5 greatest ever

Rocky did what few men could handle. Joe might have been over the top, but he was KO'd in grand fashion. Rocky's best KO, better than the Joe Walcott KO. He would have lost against a prime Joe, though. Nobody beats a prime Joe.

@strictlycomments Louis in his prime was a better fighter than Marciano in his prime. You're right that he would have been more aggressive. He also would have been faster, stronger and harder to hit. They were both great fighters but a young, explosive Louis would have been too big and strong for Rocky to handle.
sandman1347 7 months ago
@sandman1347 I disagree, a short tub of a tough guy named Tony Galento; armed w/only a left hook, gave Louis trouble, backed him up and knocked him down, hurting him a number of times in their fight during Louis' prime. Louis wasn't "too big & too strong" for a 167lbs Billy Conn, who was whupping his ass for 12 rds, or a smaller Arturo Godoy, who bulled Louis around for 15 rds. Louis was NOT superman, he didn't have the greatest chin and he would've walked INTO Marciano. RM was stronger than JL.

Who wud win Ali or marciano?
ajbhsagf 7 months ago
@ajbhsagf While we will never really know these things. As far as matchups of all time greats go, this one seems easy to sepculate on. Ali was bigger with better handspeed and footwork and a better jab. I feel pretty confident Ali would stay on the outside, dancing and peppering rocky with jabs and the occasional 1-2. Ali by UD 9 times out of 10.

Much respect, to great fans + great fighters.
Cheers, Jharaiz.
Jharaiz 9 months ago
@Jharaiz Good luck to you tonight! Chin down, hands up, and work his body too...think upstairs, downstairs! Not many body punchers out there anymore. A good body shot is like takin' a 2 mile run out of a guy! It'll hurt em', tire him out fast, add another dimension to the fight in ur favor, make him more apprehensive, and open him up upstairs. If you're a young fighter just starting out, work hard to make it part of ur repertoire, it'll make u a much better fighter!
Again, best of luck!!!

he lost a fight becouse he never got a fight like rumble in the jungle or thirlla in manilla. george forman was stronger puncher
1oktay1 11 months ago
@1oktay1 Marciano was definitely a harder puncher than big George. George was a clubbing puncher, who could hurt you with a punch, and then finish you(and this is according to Gil Clancy). Rocky could knock you out cold with one shot. Marciano's power came from the floor; starting w/incredible leverage, weight shift, trunk rotation, momentum, and inertia. His punch was measured at 1000 foot pounds of torque on a ballistic pendulum; enough force to lift 10000lbs 1 foot off the ground!
lggriffin 11 months ago 25
@lggriffin but have u ever saw george forman hitting the heavy bag. please go and watch forman training sessions for the rumble in the jungle he punched the shit of the heavy bag man. i cant belive that marciano would work on the heavy bag like forman.

@lggriffin but have u ever saw george forman hitting the heavy bag. please go and watch forman training sessions for the rumble in the jungle he punched the shit of the heavy bag man. i cant belive that marciano would work on the heavy bag like forman. forman demolisht fraizer and nortan.
1oktay1 11 months ago
@1oktay1 Saw it yrs ago. It's an old 60lb leather everlast bag. So small his trainer had to hold it for him, allowing him to really lean into it. Probably the only hvy bag on hand and not intentional. Marciano hit so hard that a 300lbs hvybag was custom made for him. Watch the last 3 punches Rocky hit Louis with, the one punch ko he hits Layne with, and the one punch ko he hits Walcott with. Then watch the numerous ones GF hits Frazier,Norton,&(especially)Lyle with. Then tell me who hits harder
lggriffin 11 months ago 3
@lggriffin no thats not ture forman used the biggest heavy bags around and he punched the bag so brutal that there was a dent in it. if u dont belive watch when we were kings where i trained in zaire 1974. boxing journalist said that they never saw some hiting the heavy bag like that
1oktay1 11 months ago
@1oktay1 Think you'd better go back, yourself, and watch the video, it was a small brown leather everlast heavybag. That ONE journalist in the interview said he never saw anyone hit a bag like that, but he didn't say who else he had ever seen hit a hvy bag. Also, hvy bags don't hit back so u can throw caution at the wind while punching them. I'm more interested in what professionals in the business(like Clancy, Louis, Dempsey, Foreman, Farazier, and Ali) had to say about hitting power...

@lggriffin Marciano DID NOT hit harder than Foreman. And that infamous Marciano power punch test is confirmed Fallacy
POTATER1228 10 months ago
@POTATER1228 BZZZZZZZT, Wrong, but thank you for playing! U R WRONG on both counts, Mr. POTATER head!
lggriffin 10 months ago
@lggriffin I m Right on both accounts. Everyone (Bert Sugar, Ring Magazine, Eddie futch, Cus D'amato, Evander Holyifeld Dick Saddler, Jim Brown, Ray Mancini) agrees that the number 1 hardest hitter in heavyweight history was either George Foreman or Earnie Shavers those are the two contenders for the number one spot. Marciano hits harder, but no student of Boxing says he hits harder than Shavers or George. Oh and that test of Rocky Marciano's power? that story has been circling around for years
POTATER1228 10 months ago
@lggriffin Kinda like the story of how Ali broke his jaw against Ken Norton in the second round and fought a full 15 round fight with a broken jaw? Yes that is false same as the MArciano story. Ali DID get his jaw broke but it was the last or semi last round of the fight. Stories like that about famous pros circle around all the time. They;re fun and inspirational to hear when gym rats like me and my buds used to train. Makes these pro seem bigger than life. Dont believe me? Find a credible sour
POTATER1228 10 months ago
@l find a credible source of that test? Who witnessed that scientific Test of Marciano's power? Was it one trial or multiple trial, did they make sure to test this numerous times to avoid mistakes or sample error which is common in experiments? What was the method of testing; how EXACTLY did they measure his punch weighing 1000-10,000 pounds of pressure, are? What year was it? Even common sense? If that sotry was true, Marciano's fist would BREAK not only his opponents neck, but his own hand!
POTATER1228 10 months ago
@lggriffin Use ur common sense and dont be blinded by bias hero worship. I heard the MArciano infamous story of people tested his power. Every iteriation "It was a heavy bag snesor, no it was a ball and chain! his power was 1000lbs! 1500! 2500! 10,000!" If Rocky REALLY hit that hard he'd break every bones in his hand, and INSTANLY kill his opponent with one glorious right hook. But please find a reliable published source of that story. key word: RELIBABLE. Rocky is great, but dont think him agod
POTATER1228 10 months ago
@POTATER1228 Ok, Mr. "Gym rat", my common sense tells me u know nothing, & that u are a typical youtube boxing expert. Louis, Dempsey, Archie Moore, Charlie Goldman, and Gil Clancy All said Marciano hit harder and Foreman rated him #2 best of all-time, behind Louis. Ali, in an interview right here on youtube, admits that he doesn't know if he could've beaten Marciano. I'll put more weight on that distinguished, over ur list of experts over yours any day!
strictlycomments 10 months ago
@POTATER1228 (Cont.) Marciano was a one punch ko artist & George, according to Gil Clancey(who was in his corner), was a clubbing puncher who could hurt u, & then would finish u. I've given examples of Marciano's 1 punch power(Walcott, Layne) & the 3 shots that almost decapitated Louis,as opposed to the many knockdowns of Frazier & Norton, & the 28 unanswered punches on Lyle in the 5th rd, while Lyle was helpless in the corner. Why don't u offer your examples to back up your claim GF hit harder?
strictlycomments 10 months ago

POTATER1228 9 months ago
@POTATER1228 "The who? What company?" Is it your wish 4 me 2 treat u as if you have borderline intellectual functioning? I wrote the name of the co. in my prior post & how to look it up. If u didn't hear of any such company existing, it's likely bcz they existed b4 u were born, & are now defunct. Don't know why they bothered 2 test him, but they DID! Duran never punched a horse, but Rocky DID punch a ballistic pendulum. Read the article, everything I wrote was factual; 1000 ft pounds(.05 tons).

@lggriffin Actually, it was 925 foot pounds for Marciano.
Kerbee 1 month ago

Rocky died in 69
POTATER1228 9 months ago
@lggriffin Look people have tried all kinds of way to measure athletic performances? Why becasue its difficult. Too many variables to consider and a hard way to record it. The test was from 1985. You dont think people have changed things to make it more accurate? Look The Rocky story as you've told it doesnt make logical sense. If rocky really hit that hard, he'd break every bone in his hand. Foreman, Shavers, and Liston all hit harder than Rocky. no Professional disagrees with that statement
POTATER1228 9 months ago
@POTATER1228 All info is w/in the contents of the comments I've posted, & how u can google them. Rocky was tested in 1955 & it was reported in a 1963 issue of "Boxing Illustrated". Bruno was tested in 1985, & it was in the British Journal Of Medicine. Rocky scored higher on the ballistic pendulum than Bruno, & Bruno scored higher than GF & Tyson. Equals: Rocky hits harder than GF & Tyson! A ballistic pendulum measures the ENERGY required to move something, not the actual MASS. No broken hands!
lggriffin 9 months ago
@lggriffin Kid... all you put was a google search to a certain "ballistic pendulum test" a test that Could have existed back in Marciano's time. But... As i've said, in my gym days there were many different variations on what test it was. Also if this pendulum test is used, it measures "ex[plosiveness" not just blunt trauma. if it said Foreman hit less than MArciano it needs to take into account the way which he hits. Rocky is Explosive + blunt. Foreman =blunt. And Foreman was OLD at the time
POTATER1228 9 months ago
@lggriffin of this supposed test! And also Although I DO enjoy boxing illustrated, not everything in it is 100% accurate nor true. Sometimes its exagerrated to promote fighters. One Boxing illustrated issue depicted Ali with his "underwater training" where he would throw punches underwater for training.... Ali at the time never had such a regiment, and in fact didnt even know how to swim. Also like I said its difficult to measure a boxer's punch through such a scientific means, which is why
POTATER1228 9 months ago
@lggriffin there have been multiple ways over the years to test it. These tests are a quarter centrury behind! And If it says Frank Bruno (the nobody heavyweight of the 80's) could score higher than Foremna or tyson, you know something isnt 100% accurate. There are too many mechnaics in a punch to measure power. Not just force but accuaracy and angle that changes the punch completely. As I said, Its univerallsy agreed upon that Marcniao is Strong, but Shavers, Foreman and liston was harder.Basic
POTATER1228 9 months ago
@POTATER1228 Now I remember you, KID, you're the guy who wouldn't concede that Tyson was definitely more ripped against Mcneeley than he was against Berbick,Spinks, etc. U wouldn't concede that Tyson used HGH or steroids, which he did.U have NO credibility! I am 52, fought nearly 40 fights, won a hvywt GG title, my Dad won 5 GG titles, my brother won a GG title, & my son has won a GGtitle. I grew up around the fight game & never heard anything other than the 1 ballistic pendulum test on RM.
strictlycomments 9 months ago
@POTATER1228 (cont) There was a pic of Ali in a pool throwing punches years ago. And the only people who "universally" agree that Foreman and Shavers were harder hitters, are the wannabes, like you! Every fighter in my generation & before, believe that Rocky woulda clobbered GF! GF fought tomato cans on his way to a washed up Frazier. He beat Jose Roman & Norton, who was himself a nobody who feasted on stiffs, until be beat an under-trained Ali. He then got beat by an over-the-hill Ali, powder
strictlycomments 9 months ago
@ The pic in the pool was Ali yes, but he only did that for a press . He went into a pool to take the photos for his supposed "underwater training" when in reality he had no such routine. This was confirmed YEARS later. though. And those who universally thought Foreman or Shavers hit harder than Foremna were: Bert Sugar, Cus D' amato, Eddie Futch, Jim Brown, Ray Arcel. Really, I know your wrong, and until your willing to listen to another opinion shut it. Otherwise no point.
POTATER1228 9 months ago
@POTATER1228 You don't know what your talking about, kid, the ballistic pendulum test on Bruno didn't lie! Look it up if you like ; "The Damaging Punch", in the British Medical Journal. It was test conducted to gauge the impact of a damaging punch & what it does to the brain, Mr. Knowitall! For people like you, even seeing isn't believing! You're just a naysayer! Bruno was a huge muscular man who weighed 247lbs for Tyson2. He had far more lean muscle mass than GF. The fact that he hit harder
strictlycomments 9 months ago
@strictlycomments Really You are refuted a lot of things that experts and fellow boxers have believed for decades. Which is fine, no one is gonna trouble you fot that. But the burden of proof for you to prove these things is really on you. Against you. So unless you can disprove a lot of what you said in the face of many exeprts and anaylsis before you. Your not gonna proof anything. So your in the minority. Your gonna need a lot of proof to help your claims. And being a little more humble helps
POTATER1228 9 months ago
@POTATER1228 (cont.) than GF in a 1 punch test, doesn't mean that he could've ever beaten GF! Ur problem is that you can NEVER concede a point! I learned that long ago, when a film showed that u were wrong about Tyson being more ripped against McNeely & u weren't a big enough man to admit it! Ur problem here is, u can't debunk the test, but if u admit it, you'll be admitting that RM hit harder than GF too, which means ur wrong again! We shood just believe u over a scientific test, huh?! G'bye!

He wasn't great & no one back then ever thought he could've fought Marciano(after his 1st run). 2nd run was more impressive, as he was more relaxed, not a head case, & was actually a better all around fighter. What a dope!
lggriffin 10 months ago 6
@lggriffin Marciano was not a heavier puncher than big George Foreman. He was knocking out contenders who didn't break 200 and 190 lbs. George on the other hand had to get dehydrated to make anything near 220.
capablemachine 5 months ago
@capablemachine Marciano's punch was measured at 1000 ft lbs in the 1950's on a ballistic pendulum. Frank Bruno, Foreman, and Tyson's were measured in the 1980's using the ballistic pendulum. Bruno scored hardest of the 3 w/1 punch. GF was 2nd, and Tyson was third. Bruno(hardest of 3)) scored 800 ft lbs. Equals= Bruno hits harder than Big George at 800 foot lbs, but Rocky hits harder than Bruno at 1000 ft lbs! Conclusion? Marciano hits harder than George for 1 punch power, you do the math!
lggriffin 5 months ago
@lggriffin Typical heresay and conjecture without any scientific evidence. Only Frank Bruno was tested with any measure of scientific method and he hit harder than Marciano's anecdotal test.
capablemachine 5 months ago
@capablemachine "When Marciano was destroying all challengers with his blockbuster assault, the U.S. Testing Co. was asked to measure the power of Rocky's wallop. Its findings:
Marciano's knockout blow packs more explosive energy than an armour-piercing bullet and represents as much energy as would be required to spot lift 1000 pounds one foot off the ground." Boxing Illustrated December 1963
Frank Bruno's test was reported in the "British Journal of Medicine", and measured .4 tons(800ft lbs)
strictlycomments 5 months ago
@capablemachine The above quote/info regarding Marciano came out of December 1963 edition of "Boxing Illustrated", and is no more "heresay and conjecture" than the story about Bruno in the "British Medical Journal". Both stories had photos of the tests. There are stories online of GF and Tyson's results being lower than Bruno's with Big George reportedly saying; "I wouldn't wanna get hit by Frank". The scientific evidence of those tests is more elusive, but not unbelievable. Bruno was a huge man
strictlycomments 5 months ago
@strictlycomments If Marciano hit so hard as you say. Why couldn't he hurt former middle Lowry? A fighter that only weighed in at 177 and was 5'10. A former middle with more losses than wins. Many at ringside felt Lowry did enough to win first fight. He stood toe to toe with the Rock for 20 round without being knocked down or seriously hurt. Surely if the Rock hit with so much power as you and say, he would of ko'ed the former middle. Does Lowry stand toe to toe with GF or Bruno for 20 rounds?
Freedom0467 4 months ago
@Freedom0467 "Marciano had a hard time putting ex welter Moore away. Moore was stopped by exhaustion".
Actually, Moore was stopped by a pair of left hooks! Moore and Charles were great defensive fighters who could've easily went the distance with, and maybe even beaten much slower GF. And Forte went on to say that Patterson, who weighed 185, was the hardest hitting fighter he ever faced, not Foreman. Now that's coming from a fighter that was in there with Foreman!
strictlycomments 4 months ago
@capablemachine (cont.) who weighed 245lbs against Tyson. He was 25 lbs heavier than Young GF, and had more lean muscle mass. He scored numerous one-punch ko's in his career(moreso than GF; as GF was a clubbing puncher that hit & knocked down opponents numerous times before scoring ko's) and it's reasonable to believe that he hit harder than GF w/one punch.RM scored higher than FB in the recorded accounts of the tests. If u don't believe "Boxing Illustrated", then why believe anything in print?
strictlycomments 5 months ago
@strictlycomments I don't care what some rigged test from the government says.Did Lennox Lewis take the test, how about Joe Louis? Surely these men hit harder than Marciano along with Shavers ,Liston, Tua,. You're trying to tell me Marciano hit harder then t hese men? I can't believe that. Charles a former middle went 15 with the Rock.NO way Charles stands toe to toe for 15 with GF or Liston. Look at the Applegate fight. Applegate sported a record of 11-14 and a 37-0 Marciano couldn't hurt him.
Freedom0467 4 months ago
@Freedom0467 It wasn't a rigged test and the US Testing Co. was not owned by the government. Don't care what you believe, Marciano did hit harder- with one punch- than the fighters you listed. He had an ability to generate incredible torque/power even though he was lighter. Just as Pedro Martinez, at 170lbs, could hurl a fastball as fast as Clemens at 240lbs. Applegate ran like Hell, but let’s look at Foreman in the Young fight, he got knocked down and beaten by a powder punching Jimmy Young!
strictlycomments 4 months ago
@strictlycomments Marciano had a hard time putting ex welter Moore away. Moore was stopped by exhaustion. The 42 year old went on to say Durrell "a light heavy"; was the hardest hitting fighter he ever faced not Marciano. Now thats coming from a fighter that was in there with Marciano.
Freedom0467 4 months ago
@Freedom0467 Lowry didn't stand toe to toe, he ran like hell! Any fighter can stay the distance if decides to run, and not trade punches. Levi Forte did it with Foreman and he was 19-21-2. Yet Forte got ko'ed by Patterson in the 2nd , does that mean Patterson hits harder than GF? He said Patterson hit him harder than GF, so does that mean we're to conclude that he hits harder than GF? Forte was likewise a "former middle" and was much smaller than GF when they fought.
strictlycomments 4 months ago
@strictlycomments Fucking dick. Lowry wasn't a runner. Nor was Applegate.Marciano said it himself that he could fight Lowry 100 times and 100 times they go to decision. Lowry as a former middle like most of Rocks opponents were.Marcian never fought anyone over 6'0 tall or over 200 in title fight. He's completely untested against fighters over 200 and over 6 feet tall in title fights.
Freedom0467 4 months ago
@strictlycomments Joe Louis,Liston, Foreman,Tua, Shavers,Lennox Lewis, Bruno and a host of others hit harder than the Rock. Old man Moore said Lt heavy Durelle was the hardest hitter he ever faced. @strictlycomments Marciano is the most overrated champion ever. He only defended 6 times and average age of opponent was 35. He only ko ed old men and struggled doing that. Just like he with Patterson and forget about him fighting Liston. Heart? Marciano didn't have that. If he did he fights Patterson and Liston.

HAHAHA!!!

@J0k3r4U That's a true story! And they always forget that Louis had his "bum of the month" club, and that Foreman(generally their other idle) fought more tomato cans than anyone, and that he failed to ko smaller fighters, w/losing records, just as I told the clown "Freedom0467" below
strictlycomments 4 months ago

Freedom0467 4 months ago
@Freedom0467 You nitwit, it's obvious that wut u know about boxing could be housed in a thimble. Patterson weighed between 160-170 at the time of Marciano's retirement, and Liston was an unknown w/only 12 fights; he hadn't even reached pre-lim status yet(I'm sure you don't even know what that means!). Prime Norton? Norton(like Foreman) fought all tomato cans, he was a nobody until he beat an undertrained, out-of-shape Ali. He got ko'ed by every big puncher he faced & drew w/Scott LeDoux, LOL
strictlycomments 4 months ago
@strictlycomments Doesn't matter what Patterson weighed he challenged Marciano before Marcaino re tired and Marciano turned him down and re tired. That's ducking. You can't find any opponents the great Ali or Louis flat out ducked.Norton was out of his prime when he facd Scott. Norton resume blows Marcianos under the table. Nort on fought boxing greats while they were still in primes. Foreman unbeaten, Holmes unbeaten, Cooney You must be on crystal meth old man.
Freedom0467 4 months ago
@strictlycomments You have a way of ducking the big questions Strictly. What prime great did the Rock ever face? You're delusional, you say Norton fought bums. So I guess Holmes , a guy who defende 21 times ,and not 6? In your weak mind is a bum. Ali , whom most consider the greatest heavy that ever lived , was a bum also. How about Foreman? Was he a bum also? You stupid old fool. Norton second tier opponents blows Marciano 's weak oppisition under the table.

I get a kick out of u wet behind the ears, no-nothing little punks, who try to recreate history! Norton was a bum, Foreman fought tomato cans, and Holmes was the best of the bums; he got decked by the likes of Renaldo Snipes!

You didn't answer my question about Levi Forte, 19-21-2, a former middle who went the distance against Foreman. He got ko'ed by Patterson in 2, and said Patterson hit him harder than anyone.

Everyone seems to know that except for you , Fucking impotent son of a bitch you..

imamfollower 1 year ago
look at joes arms he looks kinda 2 robotic

@wire4paladin
true ..about joez weight and size joe had nothing to keep him off why?? joe had no "precision" to back up rocky because he was missing and sliding the important shots >> missing a inch away maybey 2 inches
on rockys jaw line>>and where the hell was joe louis speed ?who was this sloppy man in the ring???not joe louis joe louis will bomb you with combos
that are accurate and suck youre heart away>>>

marciano was throwing haymakers
that came from miles away and still hit the target
i dont belive that rocky had the musle
to convince me that his punch power was that great
dont forget the mafia and white establishment at this time
at its peak also cocain at that time was being promoted in boxing
played a bit part in marcianos stamina look at his face and body there is no muscle to back it
so they banned it and marciano quit simple thats the truth
my source is from john gotti himself

@imamfollower In all fairness, you're not going to see "the muscle" in this grainy, low quality, black and white film. Check out the colored clip; "Marciano vs Vingo". Still not the greatest quality, but you definitely can see the muscle mass of Marciano. My father was on the same New England Golden Glove boxing team as the Rock, and he said the man was extremely rugged and very muscular.

Funny: the whites in the crowd look confident and happy while the blacks look worried and uncertain.

Amazing. Rocky doesn't even look like a heavyweight, and he has the strength to bully Louis around like that!
FumingPoliticalPunk 1 year ago
I think Louis in his prime would have stopped the Rock. Not without a brawl of course, but Louis was a master boxer and a heavy hitter, the combination of which I think would have eventually overcome even the granite chinned Marciano.

Uppercut at 1:35 would have been fatal.

3:12 RM slips to the outside of JL's left jab and then "follows it back in" to rest his head on JL's left shoulder - to begin throwing hooks to the head from outside JL's field of view, uppercuts to the head if JL bobs, and otherwise working the body...
RM also has phenominal timing of the slip to the inside of JL's left jab with and overhand right "along for the ride."

even though joe louis wasn't in his prime you still gotta give rocky credit for knockin him out
AliRidah619 1 year ago
it would have been great if louis , marciano and ali were all in there primes at the same time. i think the man who one the first fight would always be in trouble for the rematch.

marciano is great, but prime Louis schools him
cizer77 1 year ago
ahhhhh.....you're forgetting that Ali took 15 rounds of Shavers best and 7 of Foreman's best and......the point is that they hit harder than Rocky and couldn't k.o. the greatest. neither would The Rock..............
ztztzyzy 1 year ago
@ztztzyzy but he presented the style that allways gave ali alot of trouble, and he has said himself that he is unsure of the result.

@ztztzyzy nobody fucking ever hit harder than the rock your so fucking wrong my friend. and he never lost....
jackstein104 1 year ago
@jackstein104 is that so? why don't you do some research first? rock was being outfought by art henri in 1951, in his next fight, he had his hands (gloves) full with willis applegate who had fought twice in the previous 2 years and couldn't even knock him down! the combined records of these two was 24-29-3, don't you think rock should have k.o'd them in 1 or 2 rounds? henri, lastarza and charles weighed 185 and he couldn't put them away early as the the "hardest pucher of all time" should have.
ztztzyzy 1 year ago
@ztztzyzy you know what, lastarza pretty much only fought guys with quick fists and no fucking chins, plus: ted lowry!! the guy had the shittiest record and lastarza still couldn't knock him out. and the fucking henri fight is a perfect example, henri was kicking the shit out of him and rock landed TWO shots that fucked him up for the rest of the night and eventually got TKOed. and you say henri was a PFP harder puncher?? BULLSHIT.
