@drummer78 I like The Jam, but unfortunately they still LOOKED like junior bankers - and that look stuck around until GNR and the Seattle crowd brought back Rock in the late '80's - early '90's. Up until the early '80's, the British had RULED Rock for a long time, we Americans couldn't even come close to British bands like Zep, the Who, Stones, Floyd etc. - but New Wave sorta killed that and the Brits have never really recovered. (The Clash had a shot but imploded. Oasis? LOL!)
I Was at this gig, the first one, cos there was actually 2,, it was the best ever,,, However, I have been to a smaller gig by Robert, since,,, and i find all his solo music superb,, its always in a new style,, and its wonderful, to make new things,, just like the Beatles did..
greatest show band ever-during my army career of 4yrs elvis died=ronny vanzant=lynard skynard and john bonham=they played together one time after this -munich =olympic halle-
Meanwhle in England at this time, there were bands like the Specials, The Jam, Buzzcocks....a mod revival, ska,, etc. Why the hell would anyone want to be a hippie at that time?
In 1979 it was cooler to look like Paul Weller than a member of Bad Company.

@drummer78 So, they wouldn't have to cut their hair and put on a suit and tie like the bands you mentioned?
