he actually is not that bad i mean he is pretty good i love the hand technicality but hedid not look as thoguh he was missing any beats to begin with he is actually fine to me
Some parts seemed out of place and didn't really flow with the rest of the solo. Like the grooves at 1:21 and the bit at 2:11 with the cymbal thing...
Other than that, very enjoyable. Hard to believe they didn't pick you up.
thats just a groove u do when ur riding the ride...it can be any speed...but i like it doing 8th notes with the ride, ir with a nother groove when its not stright 8tths, do eather quater or 16th notes on high hat...
Hey, nice!!! Did you do the traditional drumline path in school? I grew up in Iowa, but I live in Australia now, and I swear the reason its hard to find drum freaks like us is that their schools don't have music programs at all. Its an amazing country, but no one will admit or address some of the cultural shortcomings here, and chief among those is music. Its a country which is isolated, and not just by geography. Keep up the STELLAR work, my friend!
that was pretty cool. Nothing that really awed me, but it was good. I like a lot of those fills, but it sounded like you dragged when you did that sweet stick trick. I liked that intro too. Very original.
that solo is more samba than jazz-rock fussion, just in case you didnt know, its great you try that kind of genre, thats why most rockers get that awed when they see this, yet i think this one is really complicated even for that genre, probably because of the fills and the kick drum combo, i still cant do the samba kick drum right!
you got potential my friend that's for sure, but i think you got to be more confident with what you play.i suggest that you minimize your chops on the solo a little bit to make it more fluid in some parts.keep up the good work dude!
Very nice, I like feel that your going for. Just a little constructive criticism....it sounded to me that a few of your transitions were a little hesitated. Then again it could just be me missing something other than that, job well donemy friend.
1:13 it starts to un groove . The groove is what gets you the gig and I think it is what wins the contest. Take away the hand percussion and start a groove on kit. Build the groove in a sick way and go from there. use head phones and a click. You can program the click to change or give you a Q:-)
I don't know about anybody else, but that's the first time i've seen double kick used like that. Very nice man =D The beginning sounded very jazzy, loved it all =D
omg.. i am sooo glad that u sent this to me!! i loved it & i still do :P anyways.. this piece is one of a kind.. i loved it when u started the hi hat with the 6abla.. u rock man... i envy u!! :D
I like! IN a way, reminded me of some stuff that I've seen both Billy Ward and Bill Bruford do. Bruford used melodic percussion, like tuned wood box instruments as well, in the same way you used that drum (what is that, a tiny djembe?). Maybe go see if you can find some of their stuff using extras, cause It hink that idea would be even better expanded.
All in all, you sound GREAT! Takes balls to post a video like this, good job!
I really enjoyed this and you're obviously a talented drummer, but I would like to say that being a drummer isn't just about making good beats and stuff...Drums are still a musical instrument and therefore a drum solo should have a musical direction and when writing one, try to keep a particular theme or something to portray or convey in mind at all times.
The first fill was a little busted..When you do those cymbal (stick kind-a) stops at the begining, you go a lil bit off time. Off time also with the cross-overs.
Other double-bass fills and expressions were good.
WOW You're one of the drumers that I find incrdible because you can paly a drum solo with a ostinato (which a lot of famous drummers can't do!!!) you kinda lost the passion fo the solo when you strated playing the beat with some fills but overall it was AMAZING ESPECIALLY THE BEGINING!!!! (I'm working on my own ostinato solo and it's gonna be amazing as well!!!) Well done.
excellent! i liked the start of the solo with the hand drum and the cowbell...nice foot technique too...i want you to check out a friend of mine. he is 17 years old.. type in 'harshan drum solo'. feel free to leave any comments....
Real nice dude. If you want some real critiquing you'ld need a pro. But here are my 2 cents. Your solo is creative and musical, I love the hand drum beginning (r u greek?) You play music rather than just show off technique I like that. You combine styles and transition nicely btw them. Then you introduce the fast shit which really punches through in the end. Only thing in my novice op I think needs improvement is tightening up the execution and accenting. It's a tad loose in spots. But Great Job!
Huh. Do you practice all day, everyday, or what? I've been playing nine years, there's no way I could play anything close to this. There's no advice I could give, except send this tape to every magazine, website, and drum company you can.
Dude. Thank you for contacting me. I love how humble you seem to be. Keep practicing man. You seem to work on your rudiments and your executions are clean. Continue to work on your single stroke rolls and practice things that are hard for you. You are well on your way man. Thanks for this. I hope you have great successs.
Hey, George, I'm a hand drummer and I love what you did with the doumbek at the start of the solo...
Would agree with eskimoposh that you could have built up the kit solo around the doumbek, but given that you had only two minutes, you were cookin' the drums!
Best wishes on your entry, bro'! Keep that beat goin'!
I loved it so much that i wanted it to build and progress way more than you did in your clip.I found the whole solo a bit rushed, like you were trying to throw every lick and groove you had in before the "buzzer" went off!(ha!)I imagine you only had "X" amount of time to film yourself, but i think maybe you should have stuck with the hand drum-built a foundation around that - slowly but surely 'moving' to your kit for embellishment purposes.
I figured that...well, in any case best of luck to you bro. I'm a drummer too and after watching your video(and other contestants) I really want to post some of my stuff. It's such a great way to get good constructive criticism / compliments and even insults! I'll send you a link soon.

hey! before anything else, thanks for d invite to view ur video.
its cool. nice intro! nice groove too..i just think you can improve your transition from your mozambique beat at 00:42 to your straight beat at 00:53. you can make your transition sound swift-er. =) and secondly - actually, this was my first thought the moment i saw ur vid - you might try working on expressions while playing. its a vital part of musicality. =)
Lots of good stuff - good potential. Could be tighter and more well thought out. I didn't really dig the stick flips and antics like that. Just give me a tight beat. :) Looks like you've got some great skills to build on!
You're pretty good...not quite as good as me yet, lol. You're awesome. I really liked it. It was a little sloppy and unorignal at parts but I love the end and that little hand-drum part at the beginning was brilliant. And that one-handed shit is tight.
Oh yeah and one more thing, once the comment for your videos are like "HOLY SHIT and WOW pr DAMN!!!!" then you know you've got something, these comments are a notch from ready, don't be discouraged though, kick it up a notch and you can do it.
Well dude your goal if you wanna win modern drummer is to try and top Eloy Casagrande.....which is far from easy, this is impressive, but in my opinion you need to do some out of the ordinary things. Study from Donnie Marple and Eric Moore's solos, great intro though!
great work.. a very tasteful drum solo.. great double kick work and the toms sound amazing, love the bass art and the combination of kit and percussion. cheers.
