thats just a groove u do when ur riding the ride...it can be any speed...but i like it doing 8th notes with the ride, ir with a nother groove when its not stright 8tths, do eather quater or 16th notes on high hat...

Hey, nice!!! Did you do the traditional drumline path in school? I grew up in Iowa, but I live in Australia now, and I swear the reason its hard to find drum freaks like us is that their schools don't have music programs at all. Its an amazing country, but no one will admit or address some of the cultural shortcomings here, and chief among those is music. Its a country which is isolated, and not just by geography. that solo is more samba than jazz-rock fussion, just in case you didnt know, its great you try that kind of genre, thats why most rockers get that awed when they see this, yet i think this one is really complicated even for that genre, probably because of the fills and the kick drum combo, i still cant do the samba kick drum right!

1:13 it starts to un groove . The groove is what gets you the gig and I think it is what wins the contest. Take away the hand percussion and start a groove on kit. Build the groove in a sick way and go from there. use head phones and a click. You can program the click to change or give you a Q:-)

I like! IN a way, reminded me of some stuff that I've seen both Billy Ward and Bill Bruford do. Bruford used melodic percussion, like tuned wood box instruments as well, in the same way you used that drum (what is that, a tiny djembe?). Maybe go see if you can find some of their stuff using extras, cause It hink that idea would be even better expanded.

I really enjoyed this and you're obviously a talented drummer, but I would like to say that being a drummer isn't just about making good beats and stuff...Drums are still a musical instrument and therefore a drum solo should have a musical direction and when writing one, try to keep a particular theme or something to portray or convey in mind at all times.

Some critiques:

The first fill was a little busted..When you do those cymbal (stick kind-a) stops at the begining, you go a lil bit off time. Off time also with the cross-overs.

Other double-bass fills and expressions were good.

WOW You're one of the drumers that I find incrdible because you can paly a drum solo with a ostinato (which a lot of famous drummers can't do!!!) you kinda lost the passion fo the solo when you strated playing the beat with some fills but overall it was AMAZING ESPECIALLY THE BEGINING!!!! Real nice dude. If you want some real critiquing you'ld need a pro. But here are my 2 cents. Your solo is creative and musical, I love the hand drum beginning (r u greek?) You play music rather than just show off technique I like that.You combine styles and transition nicely btw them. Then you introduce the fast shit which really punches through in the end. Only thing in my novice op I think needs improvement is tightening up the execution and accenting. It's a tad loose in spots. But Great Job!

LOVED the hand drum intro dude.

I loved it so much that i wanted it to build and progress way more than you did in your clip.I found the whole solo a bit rushed, like you were trying to throw every lick and groove you had in before the "buzzer" went off!(ha!)I imagine you only had "X" amount of time to film yourself,but i think maybe you should have stuck with the hand drum-built a foundation around that - slowly but surely 'moving' to your kit for embellishment purposes.
