I could have said yes to quite a few of those questions 4 years ago...I then started having problems with an abusive boyfriend (who was more addicted than I was). Broke up with him and took a 6 month leave from WoW...I then came back, more casually as an RP player more than anything. Met my husband through the game and have married for almost 4 years with 2 daughters. We still both play very casually, but family and friends come before anything else.

I don't understand the addiction. After getting two classes to 80, all of my desired mounts, and pretty cool pvp pieces, I got shit for balls bored with it and haven't played it in months since. Instances become extremely repetitive, pvp'ing is only fun when you pwn, and once you've finish obtaining a long-desired item, the excitement dissipates after a few minutes. I was tired of turning off the game and realizing that I had just spent several hours trying to accomplish imaginary tasks.
exactly the way I am right now, log in like 5-10mins a day and just realize there is nothing left for me to really do. I just kind of sit there in dalaran for a few minutes and log back off since I don't talk in trade and I don't really talk to any other players. My account is canceled now I just still have 2 weeks left till it closes.
I completely agree.. almost. What you have to understand is that people who are susceptible to addiction whether its wow, gambling or heroin are people with a void or with deeper issues (like me lol) So you were able to step away because you just played for fun not to escape real life or fill a void.
Success in WOW = time taken away from success in REAL LIFE.
At any rate, maybe it doesn't matter. I wish the little gangbangers tagging everything in the alley were addicted to WOW, thus the need for more computer education in low-income communities.

Fragmaster, it takes a lot of time and devotion to get to the maximum lvl, most people have to spend about 17-18 days in game to get to lvl 70. Plus once you reach 70 u have raids, PvP, and more quests.

I've worked with a lot of people who quit hard drugs, so does that mean that hard drugs aren't an addiction? There are vids of people playing 16 hours. For some people, just like with harmful substances, they are able to quit whenever they choose. For others, though, it grabs them the first time they try it. Just because playing WoW all day doesn't cause immediate physical side effects doesn't mean it won't cause harm in other ways. I bet the next DSM will include technology as a new addiction.

Fragmaster, it takes a lot of time and devotion to get to the maximum lvl, most people have to spend about 17-18 days in game to get to lvl 70. Plus once you reach 70 u have raids, PvP, and more quests.

I play man but i dont play for that long i play about 4 hours a day 3 days a week, i can get off when ever i want. i have a mate who plays allot about 12 hours a day but, if i come over and say lets go to the beach, Bamn he gets off and comes he plays when he feels like it and gets off when he wants hes not addicted so your comment is ur opinion not all ppl are the way u view them.

I've worked with a lot of people who quit hard drugs, so does that mean that hard drugs aren't an addiction? There are vids of people playing 16 hours. For some people, just like with harmful substances, they are able to quit whenever they choose. For others, though, it grabs them the first time they try it. Just because playing WoW all day doesn't cause immediate physical side effects doesn't mean it won't cause harm in other ways. I bet the next DSM will include technology as a new addiction.

WoW is not an addiction. People get bored of it and quit all the time, you don't get bored out of a real addiction.
I haven't played in like a month, i'll probably pick it up again when WoTLK starts though, just nothing left for me to do at the moment.
Watching TV or even youtube is about as "addictive" as playing WoW.
