have you tried playing the scar tissue riff up on the 3rd and 5th fret? cause thats how john did it at slane for some reason. i started doing it to and it sounds quite a bit better.

i did that too, playing it up the neck is fucked, i dont know how he can strum the notes and not get the strings inbetween

silence them... just put a free finger lightly over those notes so when you strum them that finger stops them from making a noise. He does that a LOT with his songs...

um yes mr eienstine i know that but on scar tissue its hard as its up on the lower strings, try doing that when your standing up, its very hard to be precice, Its easyer as the other guy mentione to play it at the other end of the neck

Never played it standing up, but i play it sitting down pretty easily... Ring finger covers the high e, index finger reaches to the 5th string, covering all the strings, and have it just far enough that it touches the low e, and all the strings are muted but the ones you want to hear...

yeah but once u go to change to the top string and do the slide bit, it's not a very natural motion since the shape changes, its way easyer to go back to the 3rd fret as frusciante does and sounds way smoother because it stayson the same strings
