Coptic language is the direct descended from the language of Ancient Egypt. Luckily the language survived as a liturgical language of the Coptic Church. Prayers and songs are done in Coptic language. Champollion used his knowledge of Coptic language to decipher Demotic text and then used the deciphered Demotic letters to decipher the hieroglyphs.
