@blackbeltbrown Well, in the beginning he wasn't that excited about it, because he didn't know how he should actually be a part of this album. In the end, though, he stated on his diary that he "Fucking love this record". :)
Thom was going through some serious depression after OK Computer because he absolutely hated the fame. I mean, what was OK Computer all about? How materialistic the world is and how much it sucks. So I think Thom went off and did a "this'll show 'em" bit and made Kid A. It just happened to be an incredible, ground-breaking album. After that, I suppose the guys said "well maybe these people aren't so bad after all".
@JoshuaSuperham As far as i know, Thom just felt that playing the music they made up till after OK Computer, They were just left with an empty feeling. They were just a rock band. As they made Kid A they found a whole new side to themselves and yeah, Thom started getting over it as he found some sort of mutual understanding from the audience aswell.
Hey, Kid A was a fucking awesome album! They could do what ever they want because they're good! They could make a damn screamo album and STILL be the best. Plus, Thom went through depression, getting tired of rock music so they learned how to make an electronic sound in the recording studio. If people didn't like Kid A they're not true Radiohead fans.
Indie means independent from mainstream. Time is proving how success can be garnered without being attached to a major record label. When you're as genius as Radiohead you don't need the help of companies churning shit for you to sell to the masses.
"If I die tomorrow, I'll be happy that we didn't carry on working within this huge industry that I don't feel any connection with" - Thom Yorke
So why did they sign contracts with big labels back in the 90's? Even Kid A was made on a huge corporation.
Yorke just did a TV Spot for the Grammys, the industry biggest monopoly, Why? becouse they wanna win Best Album.
Like it or not Radiohead are not indies, they are part of the system, Yorke and his eccentricities stunts are closer to Bono then to M.I.A. There's nothing wrong with that, what is wrong is to trash other artists (Oasis, Prince) while doing the same thing. It's hipocrital.
They signed contracts so they would actually make some money to provide for their families. Which they have done now and all is well, end of story, all Thom's saying is he doesn't like it. But no-one likes everything that their job entails do they? Or neccesarily agree with it.
man, this is like the second or third comment of yours i've seen insulting radiohead in some way. i'm just really curious as to what your deal is. did you used to like radiohead and then for reason begin to hate them? have you always hated them? are you trying to get other people to hate them? i'm trying to figure out why someone who clearly dislikes them so would devote so much time to posting comments on their youtube videos. just seems sort of exhausting.
my music snob definition is that pop music is anything that can be traced back to robert johnson.
Plus, these days, I'd rather be called "pop" than "indie" or "alternative." At least then you don't have a bunch of fucking hipsters or whatever talking about you all the time.
True true, actually, anyone want to tell what the fuck Indie really is? It always pisses me off when someone calls a band Indie, as If they aren't connected to the whole recording industry, cause guess what, they all are.
pissed off myself with dick head interviewers trying to trip them up so they can talk shit about them, they class and ur shit end off, fuck pop music too.
Kid A wasn't THAT great- Radiohead had become so popular after okay computer that they basically could release anything and the students and what not would buy it. Radiohead are assholes.
People who ask for "another guitar album" and dislike Kid A and Amnesiac are just commercial sheep that don't have the depth to understand Radiohead's weird and amazing stuff.
The interviewer is lucky Phil was there. I think Ed would have choked him otherwise. haha
