CFH!!! So if I were to condition malt, I would weigh out the grains for the recipe(s), combine them all (base and specialty), moisten, crush, and proceed as usual?
Well technically you could always just use two pumps in series. That would allow you to pump the stuff much higher and over a longer distance depending on how you set it up.
I do have a question about your mill gap...I am going to be using my barley crusher for the first time this weekend, should I leave it at the default setting? With my current false bottom, I have not had a stuck sparge yet(only had 3 mashes too). I will be brewing with pale ale malt and crystal 60l
Very nice MLT insulation job....turned out nice. I noticed that you lost the siteglass when you insulated. Was is going to be more of a pain that it was worth to try to save the siteglass? Ever get grain particles stuck in the siteglass?
I used to use the MLT sight to fill it with strike water since I can direct heat there. However, I throttled that burner down so much that it wasn't realistic to heat the full volume. What I do now is put all the strike in the HLT, heat to about 140F there, then transfer to the MLT to finish heating. The MLT sight was never a problem but I couldn't justify integrating with the insulation project so I plugged the fitting.
Woah .. something happened from about 2:20 to 2:30 .. Other than that, great video. I've been thinking of trying to condition my grain before milling, so this was also very timely. Thanks!

bobby,
any limitations on how high the march pump can pump up to? I was hoping my pump could pump up to my HLT. It sits about five feet above the pump.
ohlancali 1 year ago
@ohlancali you shouldn't have any trouble with 5 feet. It may run a little slower, but I think the max head of the March is 12 feet.

I don't remember off hand what the stock BC gap is but I like .040 for dry malt and .030 for wet conditioned malt as shown in this video.

wet milling is good IF you have a mill that will handle it as it use ALOT more torque to turn the mill

I didn't notice my drill motor straining at all. I'll try to be more conscious of it next time.
