I think this album is kinda like "daisy" for brand new fans. Most people hate it for how "different" it sounds compared to earlier albums, but the truly astute will recognize how far the band has come musically and lyrically since full collapse or waiting

I generally dislike synthesizer in punk music. It seems to take over the mix.

That said, I liked Andrew's playing on parts of CIty by the Light Divided, i.e. Counting, Running from the Rain, and Autumn Leaves Revisited, but those are more prog than punk.

This album is so unique and different, it's amazing to see how far they've come since waiting and full collapse. I remember rocking out to porcelain and ian curtis when I was like 12, I feel like I've been taking this journey with them while they change with the times. They are the most inspirational band to me. They've been there at times in my life when I didn't think I had anything else. Probably saved my life, honestly.<3 Thursday fan for life!

Thursday is good because they don't write songs to fit a certain genre or sound every album is good in their own ways in this album they used more effects pedals and new technology. music has always evolved with technology. playing with new effects that come out is fun and gives you something new to work with. any good musician would know that music is about creating something new every time you record not repeating whats already been done.

Never call Full Collapse shit dude, that album was epic. Common Existence is great, but i can see how people say its overdone. But thursday has been exploring new things with every album and thats what makes them such a great band, and i love it ALL

Full Collapse is actually my least favorite Thursday cd. I thought it started strong, ended weakly. But I agree all their albums have been candy for the ears.

@cannibalcorpseowns a raw, lo-fi sound on this album would surely ruin the effect they're trying to create here. They've moved into dreamier, huger-sounding territory, away from the earlier punky sounds of before. fullcollapse is awesome, but they've expanded from there without completely abandoning it and I think this type of production is required. Then again, if it was possible to make these songs with their original sound that would be genius, but I dunno if that would really work.

If you like Common Existence, A City By The Light Divided might be a good first choice, considering it was mixed by the same producer so they have a similar sort of sound (although CE is ultimately harder-sounding).

But you definitely can't go wrong with Full Collapse or War All The Time either, and then there's their debut Waiting which is worth checking out at some point.

Full Collapse is their defining album in a sense, and most fans' favourite, but see for youself. It's all good, though...
