My Mom Walked Out On Me And My Dad Raised Me For 14 Years I'm Only 15, My Dad Works 500 miles Away from my house so he rents a room in Modesto since that's where he works.I barely see my dad and I have convinced myself my mom is dead
@Nachitoctr360 just keep believing that it'll be all right but it might not but don't think like that if u think it'll turn out bad then it will so stay positive.
My dad passed away in Oct and we had this inside joke, I would ask him to come over and hang out and he would say he was tired and i would say When you coming home and he would say I dont know when but well get together then you know well have a godo time then. he was awesome dad and was the oposite of this song but it was our song
I really envy everyone who had a good father growing up. My dad was never around and when he was he was always drunk and extremely abusive. It made my household a unsafe haven when he came home after work because anything would call him to lash out his anger on you at the tip of a hat.
Respect and be good to your fathers fellow youtubers, I never had that luxury.
@FinderofNemo I can too. It's because kids are idiots. Anyone who was a alive at the time knew who Harry Chapin was... flying in his taxi and getting stoned.
I have always loved this song. It applies to more than taking time for children. Any relationship requires quality time to grow and blossom. Unfortunately, most think the more superficial things are the most important. Women leave rich men who don't spend enough time with them everyday or those who think sex solves all the problems if what's missing in the relationship. Good ole time which leads to real, sincere communication is usually all that is required.

o my god my dad is kinda like this and it made me cry he has lots of friends and hes loved all over our community i hav alot to live up to because of him and im proud of him for being a gental and caring father to me and my family:)
Not tryin to be lame but my Dad died today after fighting for 2 months on dialysis, and its 419 in the morning,im drunk, alone and idk just needed to listen to this.
This song, suprisingly, made quite a connection with me. I'm not normally much for 70's music, but this one makes me feel EXACTLY like my dad. He worked a "9-5" engineering job, and tried to take care of care of my siblings after the divorce, but he never played with us, or not very often. And he talks to my grandfather sometimes... with that "it was real nice talking to you" feel. Now that I'm in college, I miss him. And when I listen to this song I know I will play with my kids.
This song has an extremely powerful message but how many people actually take this to heart??? In this ever so busy society where most are so materialistic and takes both parents to make the living so they can have what the Jones'es have, little time is spent just chillin' with your kids and getting off the rapid roller coaster.
One of my all time favourite songs. I loved it from the first time I heard it in the mid 70's. I am 50 now and I can relate to this song so much. A different excuse every day. My son looks up to me so much and wants to spend time with me every day, but I'm either too tired or just plain lazy. These are not excuses. I am just so slack. How many fathers can really relate to this song. All put up your hands. :'-(

I can see how people make the connection about a father and a son, but the song is deeper than that. Cherish every single moment that u have with loved ones and friends. U never know when it will end. If there is bad blood, bury the hatchet and love one another because it's over before you know. Pick up the phone, go see them, or even on Facebook, get together now..............
The unofficial Anthem of the American Middle Class. I was a Freshman in college when this was a hit. It affected me profoundly. No way was I going to turn into a corporate clone, and I didn't. Thank you for the spark, Harry....
I can relate to this, in a way. When I started school, my parents had schedules to keep. They left for work early in morning, and came home when I was alseep. I only saw them on the weekends, even then sometimes they have to work on the weekends. I grew up with nannys/babysitter wutever. lol kids at school treated me like trash from 2nd grade thru high school grad. I lost my patience a few times almost taking their life. And they still didnt get the hint.
Now, my parents are around more often. But now Im completely independent, fending for myself. I almost cut my finger off and I treated it myself, and bandaged it. The next morning I mentioned about my finger and they lectured me about not telling them. I cant help it though, I keep to myself most of the time anyways.
life sucks. whos dad is there all the time? its hard being daddy. im a daddy, and i miss my dad. life is what it is.nothing more young son. sorry about your father.
