I really envy everyone who had a good father growing up. My dad was never around and when he was he was always drunk and extremely abusive. It made my household a unsafe haven when he came home after work because anything would call him to lash out his anger on you at the tip of a hat.

I have always loved this song. It applies to more than taking time for children. Any relationship requires quality time to grow and blossom. Unfortunately, most think the more superficial things are the most important. This song, suprisingly, made quite a connection with me. I'm not normally much for 70's music, but this one makes me feel EXACTLY like my dad. He worked a "9-5" engineering job, and tried to take care of care of my siblings after the divorce, but he never played with us, or not very often. And he talks to my grandfather sometimes... with that "it was real nice talking to you" feel. Now that I'm in college, I miss him. And when I listen to this song I know I will play with my kids.

I can relate to this, in a way. When I started school, my parents had schedules to keep. They left for work early in morning, and came home when I was alseep. I only saw them on the weekends, even then sometimes they have to work on the weekends. I grew up with nannys/babysitter wutever. lol kids at school treated me like trash from 2nd grade thru high school grad. I lost my patience a few times almost taking their life.
