  • I can just imagine Charlie now. "Yes.... tell those oiks at National Rail I want steam. None of this diesel malarky." -- Was there a 67 on the back just in case?

  • The 67 towed the train and 60163 from Manchester back to Preston and then 60163 was serviced before returning to Manchester to pick up HRH

  • Brill vid but how did you get times for it..ive got mates working on the rail but still could not get any info..keep uploading you excellent vids...steve..

  • Thanks Steve, lineside gossip the week before when waiting for 46115 and outline times from one of the railway forums

  • Tornado on the royal train in the snow thats somthing you don't see every day

a loverly video and a pleasure to watch 5*****

  • Thanks James, yes the snow was certainly an unexpected bonus.

  • Cracking video, that snow is a great background for a steam train, pity about the traffic noise, but that is something we all have to grin and bear5*.....John

  • Thanks, yes the bridge is on a really busy road, not really suited to video, I may try dangling the mic. over the bridge when I go again

  • It's fantastic to be able to see this wonderful video. I read with interest about Their Royal Highnesses' naming of the Tornado, and it's now a real pleasure to see this handsome steam train carrying the beloved Royals who were there at the very start of its service.

  • Thanks, it was a pleasure for me too being the first time I had seen the Royal Train

  • Excellent video. I was privelaged to be in the second coach and it was a truly remarkable experience. Geoff Griffiths

  • Thanks very much Geoff, you must have very powerful friends!! I'll say no more.

  • Magnificent images on white bottom. Bravo Austin. 5*

  • Thank you, it is very special to have steam on the royal train

  • lot of people crossing the line behind it, bit of snow in lancaster as well, nice video , thanks.

  • Thank you, down by the junction there were some Network Rail guys, but it looked like a trespasser on the first crossing

  • Superb shot Austin, quality all the way, and great to see the Royals travelling in style for a change...5* Bob

  • Thanks Bob, a short run for them but no doubt enjoyable, they were probably just finishing off their kippers at that point.!!

  • Really good clip the snow showed the loco off to its best 5 star

  • Thanks, yes the bit of snow was a real bonus.

  • The Duchess of Cornwall? is that Camilla? It's hard to keep track.

Made a change for them from the usual 67s, I suppose.

    :P

  • It is indeed, an A1 is much more fun than a 67

  • Great clip Austin, I see the snow is back down your way... Not a good sign ;)

    Si

  • Thanks, we had snow yesterday afternoon which didn't stick in Liverpool so it was a surprise to see it there today. I wouldn't object to a snowy Copy Pit weekend after next!!

  • Cheers Steve, it was actually warmer than Saturday when I was there for the Scot. The snow brightened what is quite a dark cutting

  • Nice one Austin, good job I did not turn out as that's the location I had a look at a couple of days ago...

  • Thanks Ralph, it's a popular spot which I've used a few times, the downside is being on a busy road the sound suffers.

  • I also looked at another similar one about a mile further towards Manchester, only a farm bridge but accessable by car and no traffic...

  • A nice winter setting here Austin and lots of thick white smoke from the A1! And interesting seeing the signal in the distance changing from double amber to red with no train passing!

  • Thank you, the little bit of snow was a bonus as it brightened the cutting quite nicely. The smoke was very welcome!! There was some work going on down by the junction which might account for the signal.

  • That could be something crossing over at Golborne junction.

  • Nice footage Austin. Snow & steam, but sadly no sun - but hey we can't have everything. Sadly didn't get out this morning but will hopefully see it later on. Mike

  • Thanks Mike, yes I was at the same spot last Saturday in the freezing cold waiting for 46115. As you so rightly say, we can't have everything.

  • i can imagin the queen shoveling coal :)

    * my train im shoveling* lol

    excellent video. 5*

  • Thanks, interesting imagination you've got!!

  • Lovely work there Austin, I wondered how much the fog would be a problem but not so ! very foggy here in Sheffield. Thanks for sharing 5* Brian

  • Thanks Brian, thankfully the fog wasn't too bad around here and the snow was a bit of a bonus

  • Superb Vid Austin, really going for it :D

  • Cheers Mark, off now to try and catch her again!!

  • Excellent shots of yet another glorious moment in the career of 60163! 5*

  • Thanks, with the Duchess being out of action I expect 60163 will have a few turns on royal duty.
