China's government, though highly oppressive, is amazingly effective. Incredible amount of labor, limited freedoms, maximum production and profit. Scary.
That was very interesting. Anyway, I'm off to bed now. I've to get up early to milk the cows and then the vet is coming at nine o'clock to give the pigs their shots. I've to get a lend of my neighbours trailer to collect feed from the market and later , see if I have time to fix some of the fence around the back field.
This is really amazing, I'm starting to really ask myself about the world we live in, it's all going too fast, like in a relationship with one of the 2 partners speeding up "things" and the other one just can't go so fast. Here, the speedy is technology, and the other one are we... :/
There's a company out there that designs houses... to be constructed on the moon.
There's also a new computer being developed that is a touch screen. Except it doesn't have a screen. It displays information like a hologram, in the air.
so there are lots of people in China, and US education is crap. Tell us something we don't know. Thx for the *pointless* video (i.e. your point is...? )
I actually used PowerPoint and tried my best to 'replicate' Keynote's standard gradient theme; I also used Myriad Pro for the font (the video was created before I bought my Mac, hence the Keynote impersonation). :)
although they may come very near, computers will never exceed the human race. think. if there are billions of people in the world, we would have to create a laptop that could design anything. what would happen when it tries to design a computer superior to it?
Why do you people ignore the facts? You say stuff like oh how can you say this without any evidence. You have to be really damn stupid to not even know have the stuff that they talk about in this video. It didn't say we had the highest standard of living, it said England did in 1900.. 1900 not 2000, not 2001, not 2002-2008.. it said 1900, so don't go saying, oh Japan has the highest standard of living. It doesn't mean computers will be smarter than us it means it will compute faster than us
in case u havent realised its currently ireland ever heard of the celtic tiger we have the second highest standard of living under japan 50 american dollars would buy u crap over here so learn the facts before u run ur mouth retard
For hundreds of years we have used machines with poor performance to create machines with superior precision, speed and capacity. I see no reason for this not to hold true when we design intelligent software for the machines of the future.
Let me help you all out to remind all. Shift happens and you miss the point. People skills are a must and will be lost by all tech savy people. Learn people skills and teach tech skills. Only two college courses you will ever need.
I'm starting to make a profound impact on the information age. I have launched a webserver at the age of 14. I just turned 15. Just think of it - Teenagers with their own webservers. What a dream that just may come true, or may already be true!! I personally program in C++, HTML 4.0, XML 1.0, learning Actionscript, and I also know CSS v1.0.
Even I cannot believe how far I'm outdated with the computer programming languages. My goals are set with computer hardware engineering though :)
I think it's great, and maybe the whiners oughta look at the title, "Shift happens" to understand the message. Music is always an a matter of opinion, hopefully the facts aren't so far off to prevent the "Schift" message to come across. Two thumbs up from me

myASIMO, I appreciate your thought-out and sensible feedback, unlike that which mischamowse could provide.
However, the video does state that China has "more honors kids than we have kids", and states that the upper quartile of the chinese population is more intelligent than the entire population of North America.
Apologies for tarring the entire North American population with the same brush; sometimes I get a little ratty when I get called an "ignorant fuck" ;-)
The video did make comments about China having more honors kids than we have kids, and the video said that 25% of the population of China is larger than that of America. But we all know that China has a much larger population than America, and considering the video makes no comment about the IQ's of Americans, I don't understand, where is the insult towards Americans?
In response to Mischamowse's comment what "mess" are you referring to? The only comment in the video that you may find remotely insulting is that the US government spent less on education than Nintendo did on improving their products. But if this fact is true than unless you are the person in charge of the annual spending of the government towards it sectors you have no reason to be insulted personally. if this is not what you were referring to, than which mess?
The point the video is making isn't to insult the US but to simply make people realize that it isn't "the greatest country in the world". If that is insulting to some, than that's fine, but the video's point that technology will soon be greater than the human race should worry you more. I would also like to make the point that I'm not North American, therefore may look at this differently that those who are. Ok, i've written enough, i'd like to hear people's responses.
While Karl's original presentation is breathtaking, the facts presented are mostly inaccurate or unverifiable. Researching the sources Karl offers I find only a handful of the data he uses is accurate. Fully two-thirds of the data he uses is wrong, simplified to the point of being misleading, otherwise misreported, or unverifiable.
Should we be pointing the way to the future with inaccurate information?
DanielDainty...I didn't come way with same opinion as yours after I viewed this video. Nothing in this video wasn't insults towards US or it's citizens. We all come across something or somebody that point something out to us. We simply have to use to our benefit, not as to resent it.
China's government, though highly oppressive, is amazingly effective. Incredible amount of labor, limited freedoms, maximum production and profit. Scary.
