By the way, can I please have your translation of the lyrics? I just loved it! If you're willing to share the original from the book with any sheet music, I would be overjoyed. You managed the Swedish text better than most English-speaking I heard by the way :-D (Yes, I am swedish)
I know the song you have translated and I love it. It reminds me of one I heard long ago. It was called "Det stod en jungfru vid en brunn" . I think the origin of your song is the same as the one I heard. The story is basicly the same but the one I heard had 21 verses and had a refrain that repeat each verse in medieval style and the melody was completely different. The maiden put him to all sorts of impossible tests before he give up and rides away.
I. Det stod en jungfru och öste vatten allt ur den djupa brunnen; Kom så en ungersven ridande och hälste den jungfrun sköna. II. Wäne Jungfru och sköne Jungfru Hwy stå j här så allena Willen j wara myn hierteligh kär Och fölia migh öffuer hedhe. III Eder hierteligh käre iagh wara will I hempthen migh tre Roser Teh som äre wåxne j thetta här åår Och ståndhe på syn egne Röther
Noted in Venjan by Rikard Dybeck. 1st vers is according to him, the other verses (there are eight) are in a songbook in the Royal Library.
I have a handwritten copy of a copy, therefore I am not positively sure about the spelling which is, in general, old fashioned, but some words are spellt in a modern way.

The talking part went a bit long in the beginning, but the song was really pretty.

It would be nice to have the lyrics... as well as the original swedish. I have only heard the first verse in swedish.
Beautifully played!

I know one part of the song from Orsa Spelmän, there it is called "Visa fran Venja" (not sure about spelling).

Hello!
Yup, that's the tune/song.
I thought song from Venjan wasn't a nice name though! The Roses Three sounded more romantic.
