  • So fascinating to see a coach break down what NBA players did past, present, and future. It's like a 'How to execute simple basketball plays'

  • @bballbreakdown Hey Coach, i was watching this game a couple of days ago and i took note of how you said it was a 5 point difference because of that shot by Harper and the 3 that didn't count for Eisley. Just wanted to say that i think it is only a 2 point deference because the Bulls got called for 4 illegal defense and the Jazz made all 3 free throws. I know im kinda late but just wanted to point that out.

  • That was a 9 pt swing due to bad calls by the refs. And those were very obvious calls too.

  • based on what Coach Nick said, jazz could have won the game if that 3 pointer counted instead of a 24 second violation

  • fucking bavetta, he should be fired, he's been known for throwing games, like the lakers-kings series in '02, why doesn't david stern do someth...oh...that's right...

  • Comment removed

  • MJ traveld so bad around 6 minutes

  • @Vergecurtis no. that pivot move i do that all the time just not that perfect

  • How many rings did Kukoc get ?

  • @elitaren 3 rings :)

  • Coach Nick = Jordan Nut Sucker!!!

He is happy point out Kobe's flaws, but not Jordan's...smh

  • @champion909 what flaws?

  • @natemup Like jacking up shots or committing stupid turnovers.

  • @champion909 I'd rather him jack up shots than any other player on the team. Which is not me saying they're good shots, but that our team sucks and needs to sign Gilbert Arenas yesterday.

  • lol when kerr screened malone for kukoc's 3, kerr was bulldozed by malone!!!! LOL

  • bballbreakdown is a coward. He asked me to show him results of the Rockets teams that beat the crap out of the Bulls in the first three-peat. I showed him and he hasn't responded. COWARD!

  • @kehwa Which team won more championships?

  • @dnttalktomeh You're taking the situation out of context. I was replying to bballbreakdown's statement at the end of the video: "They won six championships in eight years. And only because MJ retired to play baseball." That statement is clearly hypothetical. However, the statistical proof shows that the Rockets OWNED the Bulls in the first threepeat. So saying that they would have won 8 championships in 8 years isn't so easy.

  • @kehwa woah calm down, charlie brown...You also have to take into account that the reg season and playoff's are two completely different entities. I'm sure if you looked at the bulls overall reg season production in comparason to their playoff numbers, it increases tenfold. But you do bring up a valid point the Rockets team wasn't truly complete until the 94' season when they acquired Clyde Drexler. It's a shame that series never came to fruition, bulls v rockets in 94-96 that is.

  • @randomaznpopper That's exactly my point. People put MJ in a hypothetical situation and take for granted that he would have won all eight years. It's too easy to say that. But if you're going to put MJ in that situation, then you can't just say, "Well the Bulls won more." If you're going to use hypotheticals, stick with hypotheticals and back them up well. I'm not saying the Rockets were better than the Bulls, but the proof shows that whenever the two teams met, the Bulls got owned.

  • @randomaznpopper And then the FREQUENT change of subjects. It's really annoying.

  • @kehwa I'm such a coward that I ran to a different country for the past week so I wouldn't have to respond to your comment.

I'll look at the link and see what you're trying to say about the Rockets owning the Bulls. But having had to sit through the awful basketball played during those 2 years when the Rockets won it all, there is no doubt those Bulls teams would've won those 2 as well...

  • @bballbreakdown Dude. I responded first to you WEEKS ago. Stop with the excuses.

  • 5:31 who was that guy next to jordan on the bench?

  • @rockfan96channel That's Dickey Simpkins next to MJ. He didn't play long for the Bulls.

  • @MemoTea i have no idea who he is hahaha, did he get credited with the ring?

  • carr was wide open in the paint, stockton did not give it to him

  • never see pure basketball like this anymore thumbs up if u agree

  • Bad calls happen all the time against all teams. Which is why the more clutch team is more likely to win.

  • @Helotes420 Whether you think the NBA is rigged or not, I have no idea why you think I'm talking to anyone like a child.

  • @tanyaxrich I would hardly call 11,000 views "little" - we keep growing every day - don't miss our latest posts!

  • Jordon clearly traveled on the up and under

  • @888traxxasman888 Yeah, he did - but it's still a great move and done so fast, it was hard for a ref to see.

  • watch?v=Q825kaV28Wg&feature=feedu at 8:56 of this video, jordan did a baseline fadeaway. it was 1984.

  • 6:00 - "as good as an up and under as you're ever going to see" what?!?! he moved his pivot foot THREE times! i like bballbreakdown but this guy just outed himself as a jordan dickrider. well, he admitted he was a bulls fan in the beginning of the vid, so no surprise there.

  • @TitoYuca So he moved the pivot foot on the turn - but it was still a great move and he did it without travelling a number of times. But you are right - I think Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time.

  • I think that guy sitting next to Jordan is Dickey Simpsons...

  • @platedab Yes - good call. The guy's got rings, hard to believe.

  • Ah this brings back memories.

    1. Malone - not clutch, and pathetic how he falls down every time the ball gets stripped.

    2. Bavetta - Once a douche, always a douche.

  • utah should have won there first tittle but they did not count the 3 pt shot toward the end of the game

  • how about spurs vs pistons 2005 nba finals

  • Hi coach,

Love this video. Though I feel that NBA nowdays don't have this kind of great offense flow anymore. Do you agree? And what do you think is the problem?

  • @richkidsmartkid I think the Mavericks had good offensive flow, but there really aren't any continuity offenses out there, where the ball can swing back and forth. I think the shot clock has something to do with it - as well as most players aren't patient enough to stick with it for more than 4 passes. Too bad.

  • I want game 7!

  • Only because Michael Jordan retired. You'll never know for sure. Why don't you break down some Rockets-Bulls games where the Rockets spanked the Bulls with Jordan on the team. Hm?

  • @kehwa You'll have to show me some results of those Rockets team spanking the Bulls during the BUlls first 3 peat...

  • watch?v=epPwITy_BMU&feature=youtu.be

  • @bballbreakdown watch?v=epPwITy_BMU&feature=youtu.be

  • @bballbreakdown Rockets went 5-1 against the Bulls during first 3-peat. Just check for yourself, lazy ass.

  • Hi Coach Nick, in one of Michael's old videos that I watched recently he stated that after winning 3 straight NBA championships he actually was becoming jaded with playing basketball (sounds crazy, I know). He said he actually went to Phil Jackson and asked him if he had any suggestions for challenges for Michael in the upcoming season. Neither Coach Jackson or Michael could think of anything, and so Michael was actually thinking of stepping away from basketball BEFORE his father was murdered.

  • It's Dickey Simpkins! (Did everyone already say that?)

  • @mossy234 Not too many! Good call...

  • Is it just me, or did that "perfect" up and under consist of a Jordan travel?

  • @Fulllatears It's not a travel since he didn't change pivot foot. You see it that the foot really lifts up the floor that m uch only because it's in slow motion. But if you look at basketball moves in slow motion, you'll see that your feet always and constantly lift off the floor and slide a little bit. It's just normal and it's not a travel.

  • Coach I hate to say it but...after watching your breakdown...don't you get the idea that the Jazz should have won this game 6? The refs waived a Jazz 3 pointer and then accepted Ron Harper's shot that was really a shot clock violation...so Utah should have won?

Now my second comment is that I thought MJ's motives for retiring weren't a secret: he wanted to play baseball because it's the sport his father taught him as a child. MJ said this sport connected him to his father.

  • @WorldOfSnakes Certainly those 2 ref's calls affected the game for sure.

  • @Fulllatears arguable... he pivoted on his right, and took two steps with his left whilst on his right... looks like one... but not too sure...

  • @Fulllatears it's jst you

  • @Fulllatears it's jst you

  • If you look closely, LeBron traveled :p

  • Thank God refs can review calls these days... travel on the up and under and a 5 point swing from two bad 24 second calls?

  • @djflexure Yes - you are right. Would've been interesting to see a Game 7

  • @bballbreakdown 8:20 to 8:28 SUICIDAL

  • nvm it was Dickey Simpkins.

  • Comment removed

  • Jordan massively traveled on the up and under.

  • @ArmoredFelix Yeah, but it was still a great move...

  • @bballbreakdown Yeah, I used to love the up and under until I got in with some legitimate comp. Suddenly I realized my days of posting up were gone. :D It was a good thing. Made my switch to point guard not a choice.

  • It is really a great game for jazz and bulls=)

Oh,,but if u look carefully, Lebron travelled!!

  • Yeah, the fadeaway was always there, but he had a more refined/polished post game in the 2nd 3peat and since he wasn't as athletic as he used to be, he relied on it a LOT more. He basically lived in the post in 96-98.

  • @jetsblaze Let's do a poll and see who remembers him doing that baseline fadeaway in the first part of his career. I'm curious how others remember it...

  • @bballbreakdown

Here it is, a baseine fadeaway.

    watch?v=LACUT8RW6SI&feature=player_detailpage#t=506s

P.S. Please coach, breakdown game 7 bulls knicks from 1992.

  • @bballbreakdown MJ had a shaky jumper when he came in the league. his athleticism allowed him to get shots off, but that jumper was nowhere near as smooth as say, the second half of his career. but it's also true that he was awesome when he posted whether it was a fade away or just a great use of his pivot. this series is what truly got me into the game of basketball. jordan will always be my favorite of all time

  • @jetsblaze

i agree. but his fadeaway was always pretty damn accurate, even when he wasn't using it as much. it is not like he started using it after 2nd 3peat.

  • No way the Bulls win 8 straight championships, they would have burnt out.

  • @kabalcage All I can tell you is that those Bulls teams with Michael would've destroyed those 2 Rockets teams. I mean, there would've been nothing left when they were through.

  • @popeyeisgood totally agree with you, that up and under looks like a travel, but its too hard to catch without watching a slow mo replay, and also michael's midrange didnt just suddenly develop after his retirement it was there from his rookie year

  • saw this game on hardwood classics yesterday on espn uk. What I don't understand is, in the last 6 or so minutes of the game jazz would just allow jordan to iso with out anyone doubling him. Why would you just let one defender go 1 on 1 with the GOAT.

  • @gshooting It's what they did pretty much for both Finals. Even when he hit Kerr - Stockton committed late and didn't come all the way over anyway... Hard to double him from the wing anyway, so hard to fault Sloan. But to sit there and take it like that for 2 years is a little hard to fathom.

  • @gshooting Just watched Kerr shot again- Stockton does come over, but it is late, but he does come all the way over to Jordan. I had remembered it that he came to the corner of the foul line to stop the drive... damned if you do, damned if you don't...

  • as much as i agree that that up and under move is beautiful and fluid to watch at 6:10 he totally travels(he on that play. jordan being the best at getting away from being called in play like this(he did travels quite a few times do the similar up and under during his 2nd 3 peat) because it is just too quick for naked eyes to catch it in live.

  • sorry coach nick. i like your technical breakdown and all that. but it is misleading that jordan added his fadeaway to his repertoire after his first retirement. his fadeaway shot goes way back to his college days. he actually utilizes it a lot more often around 89/90 and in 93 season his fadeway has already been one of his key weapons. i have heard of so many myth and hype from media about jordan improving his mid range and fadeaway over the years. but he simply has them all from day 1.

  • and dicken simpkins are hard to be missed for all those bulls fans out there too..

  • I mean dickey simpkins is *

  • @popeyeisgood I beg to differ. Jordan did not utilize that baseline fadeaway before his first retirement. It became an absolute staple after the Bulls lost to the Magic when Jordan first came back. It wasn't hype from the media...

  • @bballbreakdown

now you are getting more specfic with ' baseline fadeaway' i admit that he utilizes his fadeaway a lot more after he comes back the first time. but my point is, his fadeaway has always been there, he was just having easier time getting to the basketball pre-93 (him being in his athletic prime) / he just doesn't need to do as much in the 2nd 3peat ( his 96-98 team is better than 91-93's

  • his fadeaway was especially prominent. he also posts up quite often during his 4 year battles against the pistons in the play off. lots of fadeaway ( some baseline fadeaways too) being used.

  • i mean his fadeway shot was especially prominent during the 93 final against the suns*

  • @bballbreakdown

    /watch?v=SngzANlRG_E&feature=feedu

here at 44:36 he was getting his ' baseline' fadeaway shot against brian shaw, this game is in 91 season. i can prove that he has his baseline or non-baseline fadeaway since the 80s by giving you a lot more example. it has always been in his arsenal. during the first 3 peat playoff, mike fratello said that a lot about his 'new' fadeaway shot. when doug collins became a commentator he also did the same. a shame for someone used to coach jordan.

  • @popeyeisgood Thanks for this! I'll check it out and see what you're talking about!

  • @bballbreakdown

no problem coach nick. i appreciate your intellectual break down a lot and youtube need more guys like you to make educational and rational video.

  • Lakers and Kings/ Blazers in the early 2000s breakdowns?

  • @ChosenOne I think I've got one from that era on my DVR.. stay tuned. And don't miss tonight's premier! only at bballbreakdown[dot]com

  • Is it just me or did that up and under at 6:06 look like a travel.

  • @irishmist1794 No, it's not you - he drags the pivot foot, but still a sick move.

  • @synergysportstech Without a doubt it's a great move but that's a call that shouldn't be missed.

  • hey bballbreakdown what do u think about bruce blitz?

  • @dannywuyue I don't think too much about him - tried listening to a show once, but got distracted and never finished...

  • Hey coach, could you do a breakdown of the 2011 draft? I've been dying trying to find experts on their opinions on the draft!

  • we should look at sacramento lakers earlier this decade, those were a great series

  • Awesome Review Coach. You should do more retro breakdowns.

  • @ButtZilla1031 Stay tuned! I've got a ton of them in the pipeline. Don't forget about tomorrow night, 6 PM PST - when we release our exclusive interviews with Paul George and Nick Young

  • Coach can you give a breakdown on jordan's greatness? on how much attention he gets back then... and give these guys the difference of handcheck era to this era... I think these guys (or some) has no clue on how is basketball played then... maybe the glove guarding MJ...

  • @scapicoco Sounds good- I'll see what I can do!

  • who was the guy sitting next to michael? Erik Damnpier? lol

  • @ 5:28 Dickey Simpkins..... Krause drafted him, then traded him and then traded for him......... I know, it didn't make sense back then either

  • i love your videos Coach Nick i would love to see more retro defensive plays from back then. Keep up the great work BTW I love the breakdown of the UCLA screen play

  • @sopa71479 No problem! Thanks! Lots more coming and don't miss our premier of a special post about Paul George of the Pacers and Nick Young of the Wizards. Exclusive interview footage! Only at bballbreakdown before it goes wide on Friday!

  • @bballbreakdown i am looking forward to it

  • ok thx, i have one more question. when they beat the lakers was it mostly because their adjustments to l.a's new defensive system or cuz the lakers were terrible at defending the pick n roll?

i wish the lakers good luck after hiring mike brown..

  • @learie101 Lakers were horrible, just awful, at defending the pick and roll. And one thing about Carlisle - once he spots a weakness, he'll attack it until you adjust. If you don't adjust (see Lakers, Miami, etc.) you will lose.

  • nice breakdown coach nick!,btw i have a question about the mavs, you said their offense was unimaginative and mediocre(which was true) but how did they end up winning with offense like that?did they adjust later in the season?

  • @learie101 I'm not sure what happened or why I said that, since they ended up being clever enough to hurt the Heat with their offense, and the Heat never adjusted. Some of their plays they ran in the finals they simply did not run in the earlier rounds...

  • @bballbreakdown I think it had to do with the Heat just not guarding the 3 point line very well due to their lack of a front court. Mavs had the weapons to shoot 3's all day long, and they pulled up casually to hit 3's, because the Heat's defense (especially transition) goes straight in the paint. That's what I noticed anyway. Besides making shots, and the Heat not making them, the Mavs won by the 3 ball. So many game changers, momentum changers, and daggers with those 3's.

  • awesome video : )

  • yeaaa love these retros!

  • Hey Coach Nick, this video was great. I love seeing break downs on older series!

  • How many Nba stars have you trained?

  • What exactly were the strange circumstances?

  • Who is better defensively? Pippen or Jordan?

  • Man I still have the original recording of this game on VHS from '98! I was 16, stayed up late on a school night to watch the last game with Mike as a Bull. I will never forget how it felt watching greatness live in front of me, and that last sequence...lord. When he hit the last shot, I had to bury my face in a cushion to muffle my scream cos it was 4am in the UK ha ha. I knew then I had just witnessed possibly the greatest game of MJ's career.

  • You should do a commentary on how the Bulls succeeded without a traditional point guard or dominant center.

  • Nice video post more

  • @MrFrEaK4NBA Stay tuned! We are moving our premier to THURSDAY night (I have a game to coach on Wed)

  • love the retro breakdowns! keep em coming!

  • noiceee, can you break down the crucial games in the magic/bird/pistons matches

  • man I am really happy when your video showed up in my youtube home page..have been waiting for this..keep up the good work coach :)

  • Very nice breakdown coach. Keep those coming. Do one on the draft and what you think different rookies can bring to the table maybe (if you have enough info on them from NCAA).

  • @ivan61750 Kukoc is from Croatia

  • who are you a coach of?

  • @MrJDRecords A high school in Los Angeles - Birmingham High School...

  • @bballbreakdown nice thx for the reply

  • @bballbreakdown Lol one of the most famous public high schools in the country. No big deal.

  • In an interview Michael Jordan said that he used to play baseball with his dad as a kid and it brought back a lot of memories. I think it was a combination of total domination of the game of basketball mixed with bitter feelings about his father's death that led Michael to play baseball.

  • @DTDCRapture You do know about all the gambling rumors, right?

  • Kukoc is from Croatia

  • @youutube1679 He is. Did you see the 30 for 30 about Petrovic and Vlade?

  • Love the retro breakdowns. I'm looking forward to more of them, especially with the Bulls, but I think you should do some of the Lakers-Celtics, it is the greatest rivalry in the NBA.

  • @Slamwoo93 For sure. I think I've got one on the DVR. I've got over 20 old games, maybe I'll type up the list and let you guys decide the next one!

  • Thank you professor Nick.

  • @jhualexc Ha! Thanks!

  • YAY! Coach Nick, you're not dead!! We haven't seen a breakdown in a while...

  • @AshGhiassi2 Just busy with team and camp stuff. Don't miss tomorrow night at 6 PM!

  • Whats up with the liquid-like quality coach?

  • @scapicoco Not sure what you mean? If you're talking about the green screen - I'll fix it - I was in a hurry, I guess.

  • @bballbreakdown It's like the facebook breakdown you made coach... on the intro where you are talking and yet to give a peek on the game... But I actually like your quality overall, too bad you're using a mac software and I can't use it.. lol... I would've wanted to use it...

  • Great breakdown of two of the heavy weight titans of the 90's. I really loved both teams and how both their styles make their games fun to watch. I would also appreciate more Bulls and Jazz breakdowns. Keep up the great work.

  • @noonevincecarterfan Thanks. Stay tuned for lots more coming up this week!

  • 5 pts difference of unjustified points?...jazz couldve won this game.

  • @wuat007 And I'm sure the Bulls wanted no part of a game 7 on the road - especially cause they never had a 7th game in the Finals...

  • Hey Coach Nick, I think it's a bit of a myth when people say the PG gets taken out of the offense in the triangle. Would you agree? This is sometimes the explanation for Derek Fisher's low numbers the past few years. I'm pretty sure Fisher's got low numbers b/c he's 36! Plus, The Glove averaged around 6 APG in the triangle, as did BJ Armstrong (per 36 min). Ron Harper averaged a solid 4-5 APG per 36 min. (all stats from basketball reference.)

  • @leadoffeohippus The argument is that the PG doesn't get to penetrate from the top, which is true in the traditional ∆ - but there are tons of ways to adjust it to get a great penetrating PG some drives to the hoop. I'm in that position this year with my team, and you'll see how we do it when PatriotHoopSquad starts posting footage!

  • great breakdown. anyway you could do more on the bulls and how rodman was such a great defender?

  • @pnewtonfarley I'll put it on the list and see if we can get to it! Thx.

  • @bballbreakdown thanks...a breakdown on the best defensive players would be cool. but i know u have a million requests . doing good coach

  • tnx coach nick! more retro please! this is a nice introduction though! i keep watching! =)

  • @nantoi Awesome. Don't miss Wed. night when we premier our interviews with Nick Young and Paul George...

  • Great breakdown, as usual. I really love these retro ones. 92-93 finals between the Bulls and the Suns next, please!

  • @aecbandit I believe I've got a Finals game from 93 on the DVR. Stay tuned.

  • lmao malone with 3 in the key. 8:06

  • 84-93 MJ was a one man wrecking crew on offense & defense, 96-98 MJ really bought into the system. Coach, would you please talk about the importance of group cohesion, and getting players to buy into a system?

  • those screens look soooo much more physical back then. If screens like that were set in this years finals there would be about 10 more calls a game.

  • @Tommmaaah I agree - this series was very physical and the game was very slow. Both teams shot 50% in this game, yet didn't even get to 90 points!

  • who's that guy on the bench ? Parish ?

  • @makuzer # 8 bull was dicky simpkins from providence.

  • @nantoi Good call!

  • who's that guy on the bench ?

  • Triangle offense explained vid please! :))

  • @heyyyitsandre24 OK - we'll do one soon.

  • 8:27 = broken ankles.
