I'm not sure if this has been previously pointed out but the episode was first aired on Saturday the 17th of September on the BBC, unless of course you're referring to overseas syndication, in which case I apologise.
I know this because that is my birthday and on my birthday I achieved the trifecta of seeing Frank Turner live, a corking MOTD and a brand spanking new Who... Which I thought would never happen.
Beautiful episode too.
Thanks for uploading... You've set my mind to the TARDIS :)
@SagemeisterGeneral That was my birthday, too. With the corking MOYD, tell me you're not a Blackburn fan. Cause I was at that game and it wasn't so great for Gooners... :)
I think what really convinced Amy was "Over Rory's body?" Very touching ending. Kind of wished this was it or maybe the Christmas ending. Moffat is going to give us a "heartbreaking ending" *sigh*
@ukulelenerd its the fan termed version of Amy's theme before the Soundtrack came out. Not sure what it was originally. If you go to my profile and search for Amy's theme, it'll be there.
And this is why they're my favourites, right there. She didn't make a scene, she didn't try to convince him to reconsider, she just understood because she loves him. Not romantic love, that's all Rory. But he loves her too, and that's why he decided to leave her where she's safe,so he doesn't have to lose her completely.
Oh my God the doctor looks so sad! Especially when Amy hugs him and he hides his head in her shoulder and makes that little noise.... I lost it... my heart is broken!
He chooses a person, waits till he becomes really precious to him and at that point sends him away because he understands it will be TOO painful to see him age or die...
@URamonness, yes, you're absolutely right, he really needs someone beside him as Donna has noticed and he kinda have no choice... But he loves his emotions and you can't deny that.
@007Frankly Oh yes, he loves feeling close to a person. But that's probably because his race looks like the human race and he's the only one left of his own race.
It was disappointing to see that he was leaving. But, the last episode was epic and i loved it because it was just a jumble of brilliance mashed into an hourlong episode.
Perfectly written and played by all the actors here - not syrupy, overblown or frustrating, just moving and beautiful and so so sad in the best possible way. The moment at the end where the Doctor just turns around in the TARDIS alone just stabs me ... he looks so small and alone. And the exchange with Amy where they're both trying to smile through it all ... it hurts to watch because I love them both but I couldn't have asked for a better goodbye.
I jave a theory as to what they're going to do at the end of this series, but I warn you, you won't like it.
I think they actually going to try and end the series by killing off the Doctor.
Think about it. We saw his death at the start of the series. He leaves his friend behind. The Doctor himself finds out when he's going to die, thus explaining his willingness to face tha astronaut at the start, and River is called the woman who kills the Doctor.
@TheJboy88 I'd be extremely saddened if they didn't show River's second to last day with the Doctor - you know the day he gives her his sonic screwdriver (that alone tells me the can't end the Doctor that quick - he doesn't have a sonic screwdriver with a 'red' setting) :)
@TJgrebdnul That is due to happen in Episode 13. The Doctor will have a new sonic screwdriver in Episode 12 which is apparently the sonic he will give River.
@Trayusstudent1 :) I hope not - and I know! :) I have my hopes held out for at least a 3 Doctor episode on the 50th anny - but I'd be thrilled if they did all 11 or even just from Tom Baker on up :)
@TJgrebdnul It is unofficially known that David Tennant will be involved whatever happens with the 50th Anniversary. He's always been interested in the prospect of a special episode.
The Doctor looks so sad and alone in this scene. Moffat may be messing us around as far as plot goes, but he's getting the characters spot on! Bravo. Can't wait for the rest of Season 6.
Is it just me or does this farewell seems incredibly out of character, especially for Amy?
"Okay then, we'll just continue our regular lives in this cookie-cutter home. Keep an eye out for our psychopath daughter whom we're suddenly not frantic to find. Take care.. until that death of yours that we witnessed and apparently are no longer concerned about."
(Maybe I'm just bitter because after such a moving previous episode, Rory seems like a block of wood for all his input in this week's story.)
@kaniamia I definitely know what you mean! Especially when she mentioned River, its like they just cant be bothered to find her anymore! :L I love the music in this scene though! And I love that the colour of the house is TARDIS blue :')
@kaniamia well, I disagree with the finding the daughter part, they tied that end up in Let's Kill Hitler when they found out that their closest friend was their own daughter, so why would they go back to a finished plot point.
@pikadusk For some reason I was thinking that River had run away again at the end of "Let's Kill Hitler." You're right, that end was fairly tied.
Still, this last episode didn't seem life-changing enough to warrant everyone agreeing that it was time to end the companionship. If it had happened right after "The Girl Who Waited," sure maybe, but the whole breaking Amy's faith just by saying "Hey, you shouldn't have faith in me," felt pretty weak to me.
@kaniamia totally agree, Amy and Rory were some fantastic compagnions, this the most soulless departure i have seen. This proofs that RTD was better at writing the emotional scene whereas Moffat is a better writer.
As long as River is NOT the new companion then I'll be a happy camper. I love Amy and Rory, but I can understand the Doctor's reasoning for leaving them. But still Darvill and Gillian have both said they'll be back in some capacity, so...
They have to be back this season because we really don't have any closure on them. the 8 - 13 trailer shows more stuff by the lake as well as silence and more river wearing the eyepatch. All things that the ponds are tied in to. The other thing is that the lake event has to be stopped because the doctor can't be killed as Matt Smith unless he will play the last doctor ever. I know the pond days have to end soon but it's such a good dynamic. Eagerly awaiting there return.
What really struck me about this parting (besides the fact that it took me completely by surprise and reduced me to a sobbing wreck) was how it is consensual. In the end, the Doctor chooses freely to say goodbye, and Amy agrees to be left behind. With the other New Series companions this was never the case--Rose got trapped in the Alt. universe, Martha chose to leave but the Doctor was going to keep traveling with her, and then of course there's Donna's tragedy. This felt so . . . mature.
cont. Well, and also completely heartbreaking. It was almost worse to see them part like this, agreeing to it. Because it was free choice instead of brought about by necessity, you could tell it took a lot more strength for the Doctor to walk away, and for Amy to watch him go. I know Rory and Amy will be back for the finale, and I desperately hope they are back next series as well (funny, I had not realized just how they've grown on me), but at the same time this scene is a perfect goodbye.
@badpoetwithdreams I was going to make my own comment, but your comment summed up my thoughts pretty much. Especially since in 'Lets Kill Hitler' he claimed that Amy Pond was the only one who he hadn't screwed up yet. However, I have a feeling since the last episode is called The Wedding of River Song, River Song might be the companion for next season. However, they could always pull a fast one and River Song could be marrying some random dude.
@badpoetwithdreams Shame that it's ruined by the fact that Gilan's signed on for the next season.... Perhaps she'll get a tragic death scene this go around. It's only been hinted at since S5...
It was a very sad departure, but I think it was time, the doctor needs to go on and be on his own. amy and rory will be back in 2 weeks and in series 7.
Why is the view like...reversed or backwards? Or whatever term you would use? Anyway, this broke my heart watching this. I did not see this coming at all...AMY has to come back! I know she'll be back for the finale, but for all we know, this could be the final episode where she is a main cast member. :( I know the Doctor is protecting them, but he can't leave Amy! She's Amy! I can't see the 11th Doctor with anyone else, AMY is his companion! This was so sad a departure, I hope they're both back.

i absolutely burst into tears at this. i mean i knew before hand that they would be leaving this episode, but i didn't want to believe it. but, when i saw this part i started crying my eyes out. i can't believe they're gone! for not atleast. Karen did say she was coming back next season.
@Lillythepinkxxx i really hope rory is. i mean the episode is titled 'the wedding of River Song' it wouldn't be right if her parents weren't there. :)
@ismcb4sc Greg a character from last season is going to be with him next episode don't know about the last one though I doubt this is the last well see of Amy and Roy.
@ismcb4sc Its Craig from last series, played by James Corden. Episode 13, the Doctor is essentially on his own, but Amy, Rory and River are all in it.
You know, Rose did two series. Donna and Martha did one. Amy has done two. But for some reason, when I look back at Rose, it feels like she travelled with the doctor for ages - much longer then it feels like Amy has been with him. I have enjoyed Doctor Who so much more since Amy, Rory and 11 came along. The time has gone so quickly with them though. I'm REALLy glad to hear Amy is returning. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope when she goes for good. I love her! :,) x
@Lillythepinkxxx When a companion splits time between two Doctors, (like Rose, Sarah Jane Smith, Nyssa and Teagan) their run does seem longer. You also have to remember Rose's presence seemed to permeate through David Tennant's run as 10 until the farewell scene in End of TIme.
@lkgrave Yeah, I suppose so. I did love Rose, but It just feels like time with Amy and Rory has gone so quickly! I can't believe they've been on for almost two series already! D: But they are returning so all is good :)

@ipodpepsimates Yeah, Amy is definitely in Episode 13, and although she hasn't been seen on location for the Xmas special yet, she is staying at the same hotel with the crew....
@AyeeItsAshley I think, to be perfectly honest, that was sadder than anything Tennant's ever done. We kind of always knew 10's era would be full of those kinds of scenes, but 11's era is different. I think the way the last bit is shot, you really do get this sense the Doctor is, and always will be, alone.
@Trayusstudent1 Thing is they are returning for the next couple episodes or that i've heard. But they will for sure be back for the 7th season i've heard. But yeah it makes me sad to think that 11, he is just so amazing and loving that it just broke my heart to watch this scene, But i agree with you.
Aaaw :( I dunno, with this trio that Moffat set up, it always felt like they'd always be together. I can't help but think of River's words from season 4, that when you run with the Doctor, it feels like it goes on forever.
@TvMovieSparks88 Depending on which side of love you mean, lol, the Doctor doesn't love Amy. I think he has definitely grown attached to both her and Rory, but I think the relationship is either like a best friend, or some kind of brother/sister relationship. i.e. though the brother thinks he's protecting the sister, in fact the little sister is looking after him.
Love it how me makes a little cute noise when he nussles his head into her sholder at 3:32 So cute!!

i absolutely burst into tears at this. i mean i knew before hand that they would be leaving this episode, but i didn't want to believe it. but, when i saw this part i started crying my eyes out. i can't believe they're gone! for not atleast. Karen did say she was coming back next season.
TwilightFanatic113 5 months ago
@TwilightFanatic113 Yeah Karen is returning next season (YES) And in episode 13 Amy is definatley back, and maybe (hopefully!) Rory too. :)

You also have to remember Rose's presence seemed to permeate through David Tennant's run as 10 until the farewell scene in End of TIme.
lkgrave 5 months ago
@lkgrave Yeah, I suppose so. I did love Rose, but It just feels like time with Amy and Rory has gone so quickly! I can't believe they've been on for almost two series already! D: But they are returning so all is good :)

The saddest part was that the song that was playing when he left them is called "Can I come with you?"

Trayusstudent1 5 months ago 2
@Trayusstudent1 Thing is they are returning for the next couple episodes or that i've heard. But they will for sure be back for the 7th season i've heard. But yeah it makes me sad to think that 11, he is just so amazing and loving that it just broke my heart to watch this scene, But i agree with you.

Aaaw :( I dunno, with this trio that Moffat set up, it always felt like they'd always be together. I can't help but think of River's words from season 4, that when you run with the Doctor, it feels like it goes on forever.

Thanks for posting sweetest scene was screaming for the doctor to tell that he loves amy happy to know that is not good bye for amy
TvMovieSparks88 5 months ago
@TvMovieSparks88 Depending on which side of love you mean, lol, the Doctor doesn't love Amy. I think he has definitely grown attached to both her and Rory, but I think the relationship is either like a best friend, or some kind of brother/sister relationship. i.e. though the brother thinks he's protecting the sister, in fact the little sister is looking after him.
