  • Where's the beef?

  • how do you think the 7d compares to the 50d? currently deciding between them.

  • @brookiemathews 1st....the 7D Mark 2 might be out in the next 6 months.....so you might get the 7 cheaper or a Mark2 soon!

2nd......7D all the way!!! It's just such a comprehensive DSLR. Great up to ISO 3200, fast, Great HD video, great ergonomically. I just love it. Once you get to know it, it really is a great camer to use.

I would say te 50D would be fine, if you not going to do photography jobs (the 7D is a great workhorse), and you were only really interested in stills....and not video.

  • @AndyBJ ohh no!! the 7d markii!! I just got the 7d last week! I figured that would happen! but thanks, I love the 7d, really 3200? I havent tried that high yet!

  • @brookiemathews Ha ha. Don't panic. it's probably ages away, and anyway....the original 7D will always hold good value for a 5 years I recon. It's a bit of legend really!

ISO....ha. Yeah. In good light 3200 is fine. I shot a really bad low light gig with no flash about 3 months ago, mostly around 6400 ISO, and while they was still a lot of noise, with touch of noise reduction in Lightroom they were still fine for web use or small prints.

    Enjoy the 7D man!

  • @AndyBJ What about the 5d mark3, people keep saying that will be out soon for the past 8 months! The 7d just came out fairly recently, 2 years right so that will probably take a bit longer. All i care about is VIDEO so i want to get it right before i buy a camera...what is the best of the best for video. No AF for video scares me, how can that be considered the best Video. Af is very important in my eyes. I don't want moving objects going in and out of focus!

    Your thoughts?

  • @whole27 I would just buy a proper camcorder if the autofocus thing worries you. The main advantage of a DSLR is that you have more control access to different lenses. Overall it's a more professional approach to video and you should be prepared to take control if you buy a DSLR for video; in my opinion.

As for the 5D mark 3 and 7D replacement...Canon are taking their time, but after the release of the 1Dx it seems they have been having a major rethink of their DSLR line up, so who knows!!!!

  • @AndyBJ yea but is the camcorder conversion any diiferent, any "heavier" than a DSLR conversion onto a computer and then onto youtube or a DVD? It doesn't appear from the vids on youtube that 1080p on a DSLR is the same as the 1080p on a camcorder....or is it just b/c the conversion on a camcorder is heavier??

I want my footage to go on a professional style DVD, kind of like a movie...so will a camocrder convert lightly onto a DVD?

  • 7d mark 2 what's wrong with this amateurs

  • @Gallosafare What do you mean?

  • im very happy with my 7d and there is so much more to this cam then anyone could put on video like the fact you can adjust the ai servo drive speed or being able to remember af points also the fact you can adjust almost every button to suit your needs so your eye never haves to leave the veiw finder lol its just a amazing high end crop cam. awsome vid

  • I want this camera but nikons d7000 seems to have a faster auto focus, 2 seconds quicker than the 7d plus 39 focal points compared to 19 from the canon. The nikon has lower pixels but a few more features which are quite useful like 2 mem card slots. So it's a hard decision to make at the moment.

  • @krazy4baja dont just base it on body think about lens's too if your shooting sports canon makes the best tele's or weddings canon also makes the best and fastest primes and even though the canon only has 19 af points there all cross type meaning it will lock on to a subject quicker and you will get more keepers. if i was you i would go with the better glass bodys get a update every 3 or 4 years glass does not

  • I'm going to see about upgrading from my 8mp olympus e500 to the canon 7d,mainly for the faster continuous shooting, live view and better auto focus

  • I went from the 400d to 7d.....the 7d is such an amazing camera, I absolutely love it!

  • @theone2225 But was it worth the money????

  • Will I just sold my Canon 40d and I'm planning to get the 7d I read some reviews all around the internet regarding to the sharpness and noise but when I Compared to the 40d it was way better, anyway I wanted to go to the 5d mak 2 but it was so Expensive for me, Plus to that 7d has many Great features that will make you to go for it.

  • @ColorfulPhotography Hey. Sharpness is often more to do with the Lens and the photographer than the camera. But there is no doubt the 7D does produce excellent images a lot of the time and it might be slightly better at higher ISO's than the 40D.

If your seriously thinking of the 5Dmk2 then you might want to hold off because I feel the 5D mark 3 may come out later this year, then second hand 5D mark 2's might be a similar price to the 7D now. But I really love my 7D now it's great.

  • @AndyBJ Thanks Andy really appreciate it.

  • @AndyBJ Dont hold your breath fella... I dont think we're going to see a 5D Mk III for a while yet after all the earthquake and flood problems! My guess is probably well ito next year.

  • @AndyBJ your right but the 7d and 5d are ment for diffent things like i would not sell my 7d for a 5d 2 i would own both unless the 5d 3 has 8fps and a better ai servo like in the 1d mark 4 ai servo 2 im be hanging on to the 7d for a long time lol plus the video is amazing in the right hands

  • What lens are you using on the 30D

  • How do you afford all of those cameras -.-

  • @IIVI0RTAL Work Hard and get a good Bonus each year, Bank Loans, Generous Relatives.

  • why the fuck do people argue over a camera jesus get over it

  • I need, just cant afford yet,.... XD

  • First of, in this video you're basically saying you don't have anything to say about the 7D?

And secondly, what is the lens on the 7D, and why do you not have a better lens on it?

  • @ensampojken 'First of (should be 'off', learn to spell!) ', if you read the title of my video I am justifying if I need one, I do state I wanted more resolution, faster and better focusing etc. I never stated it was a full review, or that I had anything to say about the 7D.

Second, that is the EFS 60mm F2.8 which you will find is an excellent Macro lens, obviously specifically designed for APS-C size sensors. It is a top quality lens.

Thirdly, 'Fuck off' and read/listen before you comment!

  • @ensampojken Fourthly....I readily accept my mistakes and acknowledge that this is not a great video both in content and quality, but it was one of the first I made and I am trying to improve.

  • @AndyBJ Well, I just found it peculiar that the titel was called "Do I Need One?" when you clearly have one... And still didn't really say much about it. (Yes, trying to justify expense etc...)

About the lens, obviously EFS lenses are för APS-C sensors. Though I would probably go for L-series lenses if I spent the money on a 7D.

And how do you justify using the phrase "Fuck off" here, anyway?

  • @ensampojken I apologise for the harsh language, I have had a very bad day and your comment read to me like a very pompous, know it all, slightly vindictive, judgemental and unnecessary way of wording your queries. I retract the remark and hope it did not cause offence.

For your further information, I do now have an L Series 24-70 f2.8, however well made EF-S lenses can produce good enough quality for pro photography. Also I am not a full time Pro so I don't have a need to get all L series.

  • You're doing well - looking forward to your other videos.

  • What are your thoughts on noise improvement over the 30d? Does ISO 3200 on the 30 equal 6400 on the 7d? I tried to judge from your IPOD picts but had a hard time. I'm looking for as many reasons as possible to upgrade. :)

  • @1970Canon Hey. Sorry my pics aren't great, Have you tried viewing them a the larger size, saving a copy and then zooming in (although i think I might have a block on my flickr images for right clicking).

Anyhooo.....I would say that your assessment is about right. 6400 images on the 7D are definitely useable where as the 30D does struggle over 1600. There is an obvious improvement in the technology from the 30D's release to the 7D's chip.

  • the link is a lie.

  • @Goobers200 Thanks for the warning. I've updated the Flickr link (not sure why it changed). Cheers.

  • andy blow job :-)

  • @CSH373 How did you guess my other names???

  • @CSH373

ha ha ha only one :P

  • i have a film one :/

i mean its okay just a pain sometimes

but im waiting for Christmas or my birthday to get one of those!^

  • @GraceeHunnn film? cool =p i just got my first dslr the t2i a couple of months ago :D its intense d=

  • thanks

  • Hi Andy; have you used the 5D mark 11?

  • I sure do need one lol

  • do you think that the live view feature is that necessary? should i trade my new xs for a used 30D?

  • @GoingSkateboarding Yo (cool YT name!). Live View is KILLER!! It really is very very useful - more so than you would imagine. Live view is great as you can zoom in 10x on the image on one area and get it pin sharp, which you could never do just looking through the view finder.

The 30D does NOT have live view btw and is now quite dated, you should look at new models - get one which shoots 1080p the video on these new generation canons is amazing. If your into photography defo look at an SLR.

  • @AndyBJ thanks. yeah i shoot skateboarding so im not sure if live view is that necessary but i do like to shoot macro every than and now. good point. yeah, i wish i could afford a nice 1080p camera. i just brought it up cause i found a 30D body for 300$

  • @GoingSkateboarding...Ah ok mate. The 30D is an excellent camera and produces the usual hight standard photo's with a good lens. I am just wondering if you have 300$ you might want to consider holding out and trying to save for a Rebel (aka 550D), then you would have everything. So long as you have a computer you think can handle editing 1080p vid then I don't think you would regret waiting - and the quality of skating vids you could possible achieve would blow your mates away! GL, Andy

  • Is that sigma similar to the tokina 11-16? Whats the diameter of the lens ?

    And how much was it?

  • @nsaccary Hi. Unfortunately I have never seen or used the Tokina Lens. I think the diameter is 77mm for the filter thread, not sure about the lens it'self. I think the upto date version is about £380, and I got mine for something similar about 4 years ago!. Cheers.

  • hey Tucker, im a total newbie. i was planing on investing on a Canon 7D, but i read that the rebel t2i is the same but smaller in size. is this true? or should i just invest on the Canon 7D? thanks

  • @Mdlballo1 Hi. If your new to photography I would probably say the the rebel might be the best entry choice. I started with a 350D personally and grew into wanting/needing something a bit more substantial when i got a few jobs. It seems the rebel/550 has comparative HD and a lot of good features so would be a great intro to Canon EOS System. If you have £$ to spare, then you might regret not getting 7D for faster fps and just better overall quality. Go to a shop and have a play with both!!

  • Is 7D's AI Servo in any way noticeably faster & better (more accurate) than 30D to justify the much higher price tag?? I'm a 40D user, undecided if I should upgrade at this point, pls advice.

  • @770827 Hi. For me the focusing system in general is 50% better than the 30D. All modes and functions seem to work well. I think the key is that all focus points are now ultra sensitve cross type points (not sure if the 40ds are). This makes the focusing system rapid and accurate and although I've only used servo mode a couple of times, it has done what I expected and done it well!! Hope that helps. Thanks for the query.

  • @AndyBJ Thanx alot, that really helps. Looking forward to more of your reviews,

    keep up the good work.

  • My same thoughts, go with the 7D now, buy great L quality glass and be prepared for the 5D2 killer replacement here in the next 6-12 months. I feel Nikon will make a move by September or so I might be wrong, but I am sure Canon will counter. I generally prefer Nikon AF/IQ but their lineup is very stale now and they are really behind on video. Nikons lack of fast lenses is a negative, really thinking this one over and I have a few months to decide. I am not a Pro or do this for profit, just fun.

  • Great video, I am tore between getting the 7d or 5D2, Will L quality glass be fine on the cropped sensor of the 7D? Thinking strongly of getting the 7D and hopefully Canon will improve the 5d2 in the next release or do you think it's good enough to get a 5D2 now over the 7D? I have heard the 7D is superior in AF and the dedicated movie/still button and others, any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks for the video, great.

  • @tuckerjeffrey Hi Tucker. I think the L series lenses will still create stunning images on an APS-C size sensor, but it might be a bit frustrating that your not getting the full zoom range. Personally I think the upgrade to the 5D is going to be amazing and might be worth waiting for. I would speculate Dual processors, better layout, faster fps, probably called the 6D! Considering when the 5dmk2 was release I would expect the next version of this camera in the next year or so. Thanks.

  • am new to photography but would like ot ask if the quality of the 7d is a good enough standard for magazines - I'd like to take shots for bike magazine, or mcn etc but I don't know what standard of equipment is required. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

  • @vincejap Hi Vince. I think the 7D would definately take magazine quality images. The image quality (at lower ISO's) has been matched to the Canon 5D MK2. However I would say that lighting, exposure and knowledge of how to take good photographs is 80% of making good shots for magazines. While having a good and capeable camera helps, to get professional good looking shots takes some knowledge and skill.

While I would recommed the camera for sure, I would also recommend a photography class!

  • just wondering if you know anything about canon 85mm usm 1.8 ... is it inner focusing ? or the focus barrel comes out like 50mm lens ?thanks

  • Was that the 60mm or 100mm?

  • Hi, that's the 60mm 2.8. Good lens!

  • hi , just wondering what is the latest price for 7d body only ?thanks

  • Hi Freaky. I think there around £1100 now from the advertisement's I see popping up! I've been using it quite a while now and really love using it.

  • i also have 30d , and i love it lots ! it just kinda annoying about video camera on 7d make the price higher. thanks

  • What lens is that on the 30D?

  • That's the Sigma 10-22mm 1:4-f5.6. Its a good little lens, but it's about 4 yrs old ish. Not always stunningly sharp, but can deliver some nice colours and contrast when a good landscape is in front of you. Thanks for the comment.

  • you missed mine the 20D lol

i have now got the 7D to replace 20D so much more to learn

  • i had the 40d for a year.....went from that to the 50d which i still have and use.....recently i got the 7d....and i have to say compaired to the 50 and 40 its a great camera.....higly recomended.....all they say about it is true.....in fact i had the choice between the 5d mk2 and the 7d and well...the 7d has to beat the 5d in features and price..even though i know its not full frame..but then again ..with todays cameras..full frame isent all its cracked up to be...believe me..

  • Thanks for the comment, I am interested in your quote 'full frame isn't all it's cracked up to be' and would be interested to know why.

So far as the 7D goes...I have been out shooting in snow today and it really came into it's own. I think I used most features, including Live View, HD video, Quick menu's - it is a joy to use now I'm getting into what it's about. Cheers, Andy.

  • Hi, Would it be too complicated for an amateur to use this camera?

  • Hello

I don't think it would be to complicated, but I believe you should be interested in photography and it's basic concepts before getting an expensive DSLR.

You can just pick the 7D up look through the lens and press the button to take a picture, it is simple in that respect. But it has many advanced features (such as a technical autofocus system) which would take some getting used to.

You may wish to consider a second hand 300 or 350D for around £100-£200 first to get used to DLSR's.
