  • Any symphony that plays them plays this as the third .... I just heard the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra play them this evening

  • COCO, c'est la 1 !

  • May I ask what are those paintings always featured in videos of Satie's work?

  • this was "jazz influenced" before jazz even existed

  • This is Gymnopedie 1.. But yeah, it's a beautiful rendition.

  • Great composition! But isn't this rather Gymnopedie No.1? I listened several Eric Satie videos at tube and all Gymnopedie number ones was similar to this.

  • @topolino70 Yes, because Debussy himself inverted the numeration of these orchestration:

    Satie's Gymnopedie 1 = Deb's Gymnopedie 3

    Satie's Gymnopedie 3 = Deb's Gymnopedie 1

  • @RufusLoacker That explains a lot. Thanks.

  • omg the harp... with saties piaono... why is this not in zelda...

  • @xsirmatt The soundtrack by Koji Kondo in zelda are good too !

  • majico en mi

     mente

  • me encantas maricumbias!!!!

  • isccha89 - you are Dead?!

  • My funeral's song

  • @isccha89 Bueno, yo también creo que esa pieza musical es propicia para el momento en que me vaya de acá.

  • @isccha89 same

  • Simply spell-binding.

  • How soothing sound to my exhausted mind!

  • this is all sorts of wonderful

  • Every time I play this on the piano I can hear the harpsichord in the background.

  • its a great tune i would have liked it at the end of meloncholia it fits just right

  • uhm this is gymnopedie no. 1

  • who cares what gymnopedie is this, just listen and enjoy the tune. ;D

  • @nyamukdbd **farts a little**

  • All the Gymnopedies (1, 2, and 3) were piano pieces. However, Erik Satie's friend Claude Debussy (composer of Claire de Lune), thought that they would sound better orchestrated. As a gift for his friend, he arranged the music for an orchestra, and renamed the Gymnopedie 1 to Gymnopedie 3, and Gymnopedie 3 to Gymnopedie 1.

  • @DiogoJSCosta The Gymnopédies were originally written by Satie for piano. There were three of them. Other musicians have since adapted them for orchestras to play. And this is indeed the tune of Gymnopédie No. 1. Listen to a piano version of Gymnopédie No. 1 and you will be able to tell.

  • Gymnopédie #1 but beautiful none the less

  • @zippoloko Actually, Debussy apparently reversed the numbering on Gymnopédie #1 and #3, while he didn't orchestrate #2.

  • Holy..... woah x.x

  • Heavenly bliss...LOVE.

  • I'm absolutely amazed by this painting! Could anyone give me further information like name or artist? Thank you!

  • @nickhansbauer It's by Leonora Carrington

  • I wouldst wish it would continue to the ends of time... resounding in its tocking. The feeling emmiting from it everafter till the very last drop.

  • Perfection DOES exist.

  • Debussy switched the order in his orchestrations.

  • This is wrong... it isn't the Gymnopedie No.3, it's the No.1

  • @DiogoJSCosta sorry but this is Gymnopedie No 3 because No. 1 is all piano.

  • @tpakvn Not true. All Gymnopedies are in piano form originally. The publisher of this video did in fact get them mixed up.

  • @iAmTheWeirdLlama no they didnt, when they were orchestrated by debussy, 3 was switched to 1 and 1 was switched to 3 and he never did 2. just. sayin.

  • @tpakvn The gymnopedie No 3 is also in piano. Erik Satie did not write this orchestrated version, this is just an arrangment of the gymnopedie No 1

  • @tpakvn I know, but, with Debussy, it's very nice. !!! It's a +

  • Beautiful. Just Beautiful. That's all I can say about this piece.

  • Beyond incredible.

  • doesn't intro sounds like fatboy slim's - talking bout my baby... lol

  • @DrSamba1 Haha, I guess not :P it's nice to escape from this world once in a while

  • Debussy and Satie. Wow!

  • I'm suprised anyone can dislike this music.

  • @AkiiesThePoet

They really do like it, but pushed the wrong button by accident :)

  • The combination of the picture and the music is too much. I feel as though my soul is being lifted out of my anchor of a body and into that world.

  • @lovecuocua That's bad? :-)

  • where i could download it?

  • I just sat here and wept nearly the entire time. Dear god. So beautiful.

  • @ambry99

Actualy, You're still crying. At this very moment, to be exact.

  • I Love this Soung Erik Satie is magic really.

  • Your videos have influenced my style a lot over the last few years.

If it weren't for your channel, I'd not have discovered Hammershoi, Varo and other unique artists.

    Thank you for existing. :)

  • So I se the artist, but please, could someone point me to a spesific album where I can find this spesific randition of the Debussy orchestrations of the Gymnopedies. This is so beautiful.

  • This is gymnopedie no 1 isn't it?

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L To Erik Satie originally yes, but when Debussy orchestrated the whole thing, he changed the number 1 to the number 3 ;)

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L I SWEAR TO GOD IM GOING TO FART ALL OVER YOU

  • It seems slightly odd, that over 120 years have passed since this song was first published...and yet it's still widely known, in one way or another.

  • The Gymnopédies, published in Paris starting in 1888, are three piano compositions written by French composer and pianist Erik Satie.

These short, atmospheric pieces are written in 3/4 time, with each sharing a common theme and structure. Collectively, the Gymnopédies are regarded as the precursors to modern ambient music

  • what are these paintings you use in these Satie videos?

thanks for posting these by the way

  • @Micklol Take a look at Google Images. Look for LEONORA CARRINGTON PAINTINGS. She was one of the three 20th century female painters belonging to the glory of Mexico. Though she was born in England, she lived in Mexico for more than 60 years. The other two painters are Remedios Varo (born in Spain) and Frida Kahlo. By the way, Leonora Carrington died on May 25,2011 in Mexico City.

  • this is the gymnopedie no 1

  • @Shanelololol

no 3 for the debussy version

  • @Micklol ohh i see. so while this is the first gymnopedie it's the third one that debussy orchestrated?

  • Does anybody know where I can perhaps get this music in a higher quality? I am willing to pay money!

  • @Rambowjo2

Underneath the view count/ likes and dislikes bar is this little thing that appears when a database finds a song similar to the video. You can download from any of those online services that are listed.

  • @SpoofedINC I want this particular piece, orchestrated by Debussy. I already have some of Erik Satie's compositions, but it's pure piano.

  • @Rambowjo2

You can convert : ( I was trying to send a link but says error) Just put on google : "Youtube to mp3 converter"

And so you'll find it.. :)

  • @pigmerry This quality is horrible. I want high quality.

  • @Rambowjo2 Ok.Try another way...

  • Debussy rewrote the (gymnopédies) 1st such as the 3rd, and the 3rd such as the 1st. Then, this is the 3rd for Debussy and the 1st for Satie.

  • A lovely poem, for this breath-taking piece:

    Sonnet 81 P Neruda

... Rest with your dream in my dream.

Love and pain and work should all sleep, now.

The night turns on its invisible wheels,

and you are pure beside me as a sleeping amber. ..

No one else, Love, will sleep in my dreams.

  • this is no.1

  • Comment removed

  • This is beautiful. Just simply beautiful.

  • Does anybody know what orchestra is intrepreting this? I like it much better than the version I have (Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse directed by Michel Plasson), by the way, you all should listen to Gary Numan's beautiful rendition of this piece (which we all know is Gymnopedie No.1, but No.3 when orchestrated by Debussy)

  • This is the 2nd movement of Vivaldi's Summer, please correct the title lolololz

  • Guys , give it rest ..we all know by now one is not the other .. Just listen , that's why we wrote it ...

  • This is Gymnopedie "No.3" for the orchestration. Nothing is wrong.

The numbering was deliberately reversed by Debussy who orchestrate Satie's Gymnopedies.

  • ... I think a lot of people need to read the description box :/ the uploader KNOWS that this is Gymnopedies 1. Debussy reversed the numbering, as SystemJammer said.

Please, let's just enjoy this wonderful music.

  • hey guys thumbs this up im letting the uploader this is gymnopedies 1 not 3...

  • In defense of the person who posted this beautiful piece, Debussy apparently reversed the numbering of the Gymnopedies (it's mentioned in the notes to this video).

  • In response to projectbrumaire calling someone a "god damn idiot" I think you need to look at all the Gymnopedies and you will find that this IS indeed Gymopedie Number 1...albeit, the orchestral input is stunning, this is Gymnopedie Number 1.....FACT!

  • leder likes this song

  • This is not Gymnopédie nº 3, it's nº 1 ;)

  • Satie + Debussy = too beautiful for my eardrums to bear...

  • this is not no 1 you god damn idiot!!!

  • The work of a genuis orchestrated by a genius...Priceless

  • Can´t stop hearing this O.O

  • Beautiful. I listen to this whenever I write or study.

  • This is no. 1 indeed.

  • Just fantastic.

  • Creo que es la música más maravillosa del mundo

  • the opening was majestic

  • love the masonic art piece. Very well thought out.

  • This is gymnopedie no.1

  • holy crap amazing!!!!!!!!! WOW 100000 times better than the number 1

not saying one is bad but this is just amazing!!!!!

  • Ah 4 dislikes, bad sound maybe? ecco co ooo

  • Breath-taking..

  • How could there be three dislikes? I guess those were just accidents.

  • I've been looking for this song in ages <3 love this ^^

Does anyone know where i can find this same song but with just the piano? D:

  • @whitebloss0m There's a version by Kevin MacLeod; Hopefully that was the one you were looking for(:

  • @Lago519 Thank you so much! :D

  • @whitebloss0m You can use Ares and paste this: Erik Satie

  • @hacecafe Thanks again :D

  • "First gymnopédie (original piano setting by Satie) → 3rd gymnopédie (orchestration by Debussy) Third gymnopédie (original piano setting by Satie) → 1st gymnopédie (orchestration by Debussy)"

  • AMAZING!

    I LOVE IT

  • Beautiful. Simply a masterpiece.

  • Oh ok, Debussy swapped them around.. Then this is beautiful without an ammendment.

  • This is beautiful, but it is Gymopedie No. 1.

  • Does no one read descriptions? Distant Mirrors explains the numbering. Could do away with 100+ comments if people just bloody read!

  • thanks to my art teacher i never took the time to actually listen to classical music such as this. It's so relaxing and calming, plus I can write and draw better by listening to this. <3 Does anyone know what the piece of art is in this video? I would really love to put it as my background for my laptop? :)

  • Hate to spoil it for you, but this is gymnopedie No. 1. And yes, I know Debussy changed the numbers, BUT THEN, you should have written it that way. Now you're implying Eric Satie composed and named it this way, and Debussy the Orchestrated it.

  • @gunnar111213 Yes but then people have to find out the reason why it was wrote like that rather than the original way. Plus if people are looking for the Claude Debussy orchestrated version then they ought to know the numbers were swapped...

  • My favorite piece of music on all of YouTube. Thanks so much for posting.

  • disculpa, no tenía ni idea

  • This is No. 1. Please correct to the title. Thank you.

  • @gottscore Debussy actually swapped them around I think for his orchestration.

  • I could never hate this piece no matter how many times I listen to it. I love the very beginning the most, but the whole piece is gorgeous.

  • Hey what's the name of the work you've put in background? It is sooo beautiful!! And the name of the other backgrounds you've put for the others ''videos'' of the Erik Satie's compositions.

  • God ! It's so eerie !!

  • Wow, fantastic.

  • Indeed he did. And indeed this is very beautiful. Disney uses a snippet of this in their French impressions De France. A score made for a show in the French pavilion in Epcot at Walt Disney World

  • This is Gymnopedie No.1, not 3

  • Dubussy reversed the numbering of 1 and 3 when he orchestrated them.

  • @sicero

Debussy switched the numbering when he orchestrated.

  • @sicero Right!

  • i prefer the 3rd one,but god this is so beautiful

  • 2 Dislikes? Crazy mofos... This is SUBLiME!

  • @evesaenz13

You'd hate it too if you had to listen to this every god damn day on top of the sound of incredibly loud and annoying shoppers.

  • wheeey 300 likes, Debussy is the best!!

  • Beautiful!

  • When I listen to this song, I feel like something inside me is crying

  • this is #1 ..???

    kool.

  • Such soothing beauty.

  • <3 Bravo! Tres bien! #1! Luv it! Thank you so much for posting & sharing*^o^* Brilliant☆ <3

  • So tenderly beautiful, a definite masterpiece!

  • Un enchantement ! magnifique orchestration !!

    Merci beaucoup !

    Marie K

  • i adore this music piece so much! <3 thanks for the post =)

  • the painting is really beautiful.....i wonder who compose this fine art....

  • @paolin619 It's called "Temple of the World" by Leonora Carrington. Enjoy!

  • Can anyone tell me who is the artist of this painting? It is so beautiful, I want to buy a copy.

  • @11guzz Remedios Varo

  • Erik Satie cette version est spectaculaire voir sublime, quand je la rejoue au piano je décolle à fond vraiment magnifique un vrai pur bonheur

  • WERES No. 2??

  • the artwork that you use are awesome!! kudos to Leonora Carrington

  • Very pretty, but this is Gymnopedie No. 1.

  • @lolaaex Debussy purposely reversed the number. yes, this is No. 1, and the orchestrated No. 1 is actually No. 3

    :)

  • Here's my videoof No. 3 a bit more surreal than most. Hope you like it.

  • esta es la gimnopedie no 1

  • Satie is so relaxing...

  • this song is so not gymnpedie no.3

  • @redSUPERMAN2 Yes it is. Erik Satie wrote it as a piano piece. Claude Debussy Orchestrated it. Look it up on Wikipedia.

  • @Mastadex i no stupid but doesnt even sound like it they messed it up.

  • Uwielbiam rokoszować się muzyką tak lekką i genialną.....wieczory należą tylko do niego. Zauroczona Polka.

  • seriously, this is gymnopedie no 3.

  • @Ar0n13 It isn't, there are some very distinct differences between the two, but this is definitely no. 1.

  • Ecco da dove nasce Zelda. Satie è un genio che fa il culo a tutti. E Debussy non è da meno, ma ciò che dico è talmente ovvio che farei bene a tacere.

  • I don't know which of the two versions I liked most.

  • This sounds like my dreams - the velvet cool of the night, the rich, heavy brocade of the starry sky, the moon glazing me in softness. Outside, the trees whispering as a wind, scented with flowers and damp earth, and that slight hint of a hot summer day, a mockingbird singing somewhere in the distance. Like the fluttering of a thousand bird wings, or dancing with your lover under the cover of darkness...

  • This is Gymnopedie 1 :/

  • @Powerfulllestkid Debussy used a different numbering system to the piano versions.

  • Why did Debussy switched gymnopedie´s numbers? And why did Satie composed the no. 1 and the no. 3 first and then, seven years later the no. 2? Impressionism is strange...

  • It's Gymnopedie No.1 not 3.

  • @LedZeppelinFanGirl

Debussy switched them around. When referring to the orchestral versions, this one is No. 3.

  • @TheWanderingNight Yep. Exactly.

  • I found Debussy's orchestral versions of the three Gymnopedies (for which I thank you) but I know he also did orcherstral versions of Satie's Gnossienes and Nocturnes. As a kid, I had them all on vinyl, and they were awesome. I wish someone would put them on youtube. (Or even make a CD--hell, I'm desperate!)

  • yes it is ;-)
