  • Now its higher quality, not out of those old factories in America.

  • brilliant video

  • the whole process sounds way to expensive for the time

  • Before that make them in china!

  • "High Quality" "State of the art" bunch of hippies ...

  • old, but still neat!

  • Where are the suicide children?

  • ₩☮Ш 1980❝ϟ

  • This was before Apple decided to out source to sweat shops in Asia. Thanks Apple for taking away jobs from the western world.

  • @ogrish84 To be honest, we get it in the UK too. John Dyson, a Brit, invented Dyson hoovers, the quality was great when made in the UK. Then a few thousand people made redundant and production was shipped to Malaysia where the quality went all cheap and crap.

  • ID LIKE TO SAY FROM: ( hotdoc007) ALL COMMENTS from (hotdoc007) on thru to (Tom672) THIS CHAT-EAR BETWEEN A FEW OF YOU IS STUPID, UNEDUCATED, AND RIDICULOUS AND THATS PUTTING IT VERY NICELY!!..& CAN'T YOU PEOPLE READ THIS IS A COMMENT PAGE TO SAY GOOD-BYE OR FOR "THANK-YOUS" OR POSITIVE WORDS OF CLOSER TO A GREAT MAN...

  • I would like to say thanks for the technology and the beer busts on fridays back in 1984 thru.I would like to know if anybody out there went to the Apple computers party with the Wizard of OZ theme & Huey Lewis and the news performed for employees. I'd like to see some footage of that event Steve knew how to throw a party!!..

  • I worked at the fremont plant when they first opened. I met Steve on many, company functions. I had the biggest crush / lust in 1984. My then boyfriend would drop me off for work, cause we shared a car back then. H e would always complain about my appearance, he'd say thats to dressed up for work. I just want to say good-bye to a great man that this world and it's people, will miss.

  • at 0:28

  • Now it's all made in mainland china or in taiwan (iphone).

  • How is it better or faster than a bunch of chinese?

  • The name's Zalinsky. I make car parts

    for the American working man,

    because that's who i am.

And that's who i care about.

  • Was the Asian on the treadmill powering the facility?

  • Hey look! Actual Americans making American products. Wow

  • apple still making products of highest quality on the planet !!!

if made in china or USA it makes no different .. still, i hope they were made in the USA

  • I love this video, but what's with those shorts!

  • Quality

  • $20 million sure stretched far back in the days.

  • now eveything is in china, assembled by poor Chinese earning probably less that your cup of coffee per week.

  • @PIECE2YOURMOTHA Ehhh, my mac is just from California.

  • @bravo3000pirate I think you'll find you mac was made by foxconn in china.

  • And then the robots rebel and attempt to destroy all humans.

  • 3:03 NO SOUP FOR YOU!

  • slow procedure

  • $20 million? that's all?

  • lol 1:17

    XD

  • Early 80's computer factory sucks looks like today's japanese super robots.

See today's japanese super robots totally junks from 70's-80's.

  • The factory is Quite unlike today's factories

  • @macintosh3823

One very ironic thing this old factory is much more modern and automated then the factories in China were macs are built today.

The only robots you'll find in a foxconn factory are the pick and place machines the rest is manual labor.

  • why dont they produce macs in the US anymore? :(

  • @alexbleks Because Apple found out that paying Foxconn to make them is cheaper. The minimum wage here in the USA is around $5-8, whereas China's minimum wage is just around $1, and they thought that switching the manufacture to China would be more profitable. Thus, most of their hardware is now made in China.

  • "This factory can produce one Mac every 27 seconds." You mean 'could,' past tense. It is now a colocation facility for Hurricane Electric Internet Services.

  • Back when the us actually had factories

  • This was the mid 1980s state of the art at a time when alot of grocery stores were using rackmount computers with core memory and tape drives.

  • preaty impresive i think

  • 1:15 lol @ the person

  • seems like this is from the 80's.

  • @NoahSchultzChannel It is from the very early 90's.

  • @NoahSchultzChannel no shit Sherlock no it's from 2013 of course it's from 1984

  • I find this amazing how every computer is a Mac, an old one, yet they could all handle the processing needed for such a complex operation...Old computers never cease to amaze.

  • This is so cool!!

  • no it isnt, its just one way of pronouncing it, if you break the word up into pieces its SOL - DER there is an L there.

  • the pronunciation of solder is really odd, it sounds more like sodder

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV That is the way you pronounce the word. Now you know.

  • wow. i din't know technology was that advanced back then

  • So according to this video, there's about two people working at the giant factory while one black chick runs on a treadmill.

  • i love that guy's pink pants... they are so sazzzyyy.... XD

    1:27

  • in a storage bin called a "tote"

  • 20 million! what a bargain. You could buy a few house nowdays with that much. how rooted are we.

  • This reminds me of the kinds of videos in Fallout 3 and Bioshock 2...

  • haha that dude at 1:23 is awesum <:

  • awww... <3 I loved the 80's/ 90's music and that voice used in tutorials and commercials!

  • ZZZzzz

  • Well, I'm gonna have to agree with craigstephfoulon. 1/6 of the world's population is Chinese. Of course it's difficult to find jobs unless we give them. They have no choice but to work for little,

  • wth theres an apple factory in fremont, i live in union city so close by, is it still there?

  • hey is that the real apple factory

  • was...

  • Too BAD i live in Hayward i might plan a road trip to go there with my family we love apple computers

  • OH MY GOD, I LIVE IN NEWARK, THERE'S A FREAKING MACINTOSH FACTORY IN FREMONT? (newark is literally surrounded by fremont)

  • WAS... This was when Americans were willing, even proud, to work in manufacturing.

We all know what happened after this....

  • Well yeah but you get what i mean. I'm just wondering if the building where they had the factory is still standing today. I'd love to go see it.

  • yeah, the wetbacks came flooding over our unprotected borders making it impossible for real Americans to make a buck. Kill them all!!!!!!

  • @craigstephenfoulon

These days these things are all made in China.

Because "real americans" (just like all other people in the western world) are no longer willing to work such jobs for no money.

  • Well of course we're not going to work for no money. Pretty sure we got rid of slavery a long time ago. The gooks have no choice because there are so many of them. They have to work for pennies. Thats why America has been the strongest country in the world, because we have more money than anybody with fewer people. Not anymore!

  • @craigstephenfoulon actually we are the strongest because of how much of our tax money they use on the military.

  • @Molo9000 but the chinese workers get paid

  • Labor overseas </3

  • @ORUPRANKSTAZ I wouldn't say they're not willing. There are many americans that I'm sure are willing to make an extra buck, especially in this economy. However, that's not what apple or most other companies for that matter are interested in.They are interested in making more money so,paying china instead of the u.s. is a better idea. The idea that no body wants to work a"working class"job is ridiculous. Now,what is more realistic that not every one is a Dr. or lawyer.Especially with the cost of edu.

  • @shechshire

Average income in 2006 in china was $2,025

I'm pretty sure not a single american would be willing to work 60hours a week for that kind of money.

  • @Molo9000 I thought you said they get paid no money.

  • @shechshire

If you'd like to work for so little money, go ahead!

I bet 95% of homeless beggars in the USA have more money.

  • @Molo9000 what? What are you going on about? All I said was that I thought you said they don't get payed anything. Well, duu, of course. Why do you think most companies pay chinese companies for manufacturing? They don't do it here because it they will have less profits.

  • @Molo9000 but, what you said earlier about "Because "real americans" (just like all other people in the western world) are no longer willing to work such jobs for no money." simply isn't true.1you will get payed2their are plenty of americans that need a job (working class or not)

  • @shechshire

Of course they are not paid "no money", but they are paid so little that it doesn't make a difference.

U'd struggle to survive on $2000 a year in the USA. (and 2000 bucks is the average income in China. People working for Apple make as little as $1400)

There is no way that unskilled labour in north america or western europe will ever be able to compete with that.

  • @Molo9000 right, that's what I said. That's why companies take their business to china were it cost the least to manufacture.

  • @Molo9000

The iPad has $229 worth of parts in it the labor is only $10 even if US labor was used it would not greatly effect the price as markup is the largest part of the price.

First world factories tend to be highly automated while ones in China tend to use lots of manual assembly so a US factory would not necessarily be 10x or more expensive.

The Chinese workers are literally competing with robots.

  • @Molo9000 because like I said before, as with any country; not every one is a lawyer or doctor. There are plenty of americans that work in the so called "the jobs that no body wants"-like Walmart, construction, restaurants, fast-food, etc., these are the jobs that the poor and lower middle class live of off.

  • @shechshire

Well, then tell your congressman and state representatives to lower your state's business taxes. Our business tax rate is often over 40%. What do you expect? The lowest I've ever been told was 18%. You also have to account for inflation (both foreign and domestic) and a multitude of other variables, including company health insurance rates.

Either number is absolutely horrendous. No wonder we're shipping jobs abroad - the bigger operations can't afford to even manufacture here.

  • booooooooring

  • why did you watch it in the first place

  • Back then they made stuff with quality and workmanship.

  • @Membrane556 they still do.

  • @sprayframe

Most of Apple's products today are junk made by Foxconn in China and are not worth the extra cost.

  • @Membrane556 bullshit, their products are made from aircraft grade aluminium with TOP precision. have you seen the speaker holes on the macbook pro? i suggest that you go and see how the macbook pro is made. theres a good video on it.

  • @Membrane556 yeh, no wonder a macintosh costet like 2000 buks..

  • @Membrane556 you mean before they went to china?

  • @luigi90900

The quality went strait down the toilet around 2002.

I know they usually end up obsolete in just a few years but now they don't even last long enough to become obsolete.

  • @Membrane556 I know. JUST FOOLING WITH YOU! No really, i HAD a mac that lasted for all of 3 hours and 43 minutes and approximately 6 seconds. THen i took it to the apple store and got the computer i am typing on now that has lasted for 3 and a half years. (And i am a death sentence for a computer)

  • @Membrane556 You say that, but the stuff works a lot better now.

  • @JGervstudios2011

    You must be joking.

  • @Membrane556 Lets see how much technology is built into an old Macintosh computer. How much technology is in the MacBook Pro. Which is Faster? Which is made out of aluminum and hard to brake?

  • @Membrane556 Yes, everything was better in the past.

  • very boring,.....

    not a good commentry,,,,,,

  • This reminds me of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood when Mr. McFeely gives him a video tape on how they make things.

  • I never knew David lee Roth worked at Apple. Must have been hard after he got the boot from Van Halen...

  • That guy in pink...

  • Actually you have to use the opening theme from dallas...

the first beat sounds pretty similiar

  • why was there someone running at 0:29

  • So the factory would get electricity.

  • haha

  • the robot's like the one from Flight of the Navigator

  • Where are all the Chinese people?

  • Wow you can tell the nationality of the people? I saw some racist people on here too. At the beginning the narrator said Freemont, CA. You were just pwned

  • Didn't you see the USA flag?

  • Relax dude. Not everything is prejudiced/racist simply b/c you say it is.

If I had said "where are all those [dirty] Chinese people?" That would be racist.

    Get laid.

  • doesnt mean immigrants arent working there. which they are, they're just not camera ready

  • jeje the 80s

  • lol, i would go and stick peices of black paper on some white tiles to confuse the robot!

  • why was there somone just randomly jogging at the beginning haha

  • Macs made in America :)

  • The 80's lol!

  • This building is now the Hurricane Electric FMT2 colocation facility

  • and their are a few things that i did not think they use when making computer. did anyone notice that the products in that factory that make the macs are apple products look closely.

  • wow i figured this was all done at the apple campus years ago. but i am not sure about today. I would love to see how macbooks are made and imacs. but that was cool. I get to see how original macs were made.

  • OMG I live in Fremont CA! Silicon Valley!

  • What about the plants in china, it is more less slave labor, be proud apple.

  • You're the stupid (and rather rude) one, umpypumpy. I know that there is cheap labor in China and other foreign countries, I was just saying that it's just unfortunate that apple moved to china due to quality and human rights issues. It's quite rude that you made an incorrect assumation and called me a dumbass. What do you think your sloppy typing tells me?

  • cool, wish you had a more recent one, oh well

  • awesome vids!!! how did u get all these videos?

  • It's a shame they moved to China and Taiwan :(
