  • nice...

  • Excellent, excellent, excellent. I might just be able to play this after your instruction. I'll try it at home tonight after work. First, I'm going out to my local music store to look for a looper.

  • Thanks for posting this.

I think the strum pattern is D,D,U,D,U,D,D. See 3:53 to confirm

Is the M. Tucker intro the same chords, but picked? Anybody know?

Sounds like a gulf accent to me.

    I'm not really a fan of Guiness or straw hats, but they can both be very effective when needed! [ ;>) }

  • anthonym40, Toy Caldwell of the Marshall tucker band wrote this in 1971 and they .recorded in 1972...hank junior recorded a great version on his friends album in 1975 before Waylon did in 1976....not being smart, but I was there....

  • Mojo I just love your videos so informative yet so relaxed. I'm afraid to say the cat ran away when you started singing................ but I never did like the cat. Just off to buy a straw hat and will stop at the pub on the way for a pint of my favourite drink, 'Guiness.' If I see the cat on the way?....well I will try and find him a new home because your videos come first! By the way you're lead playing over the song sounds great and your lessons are brilliant!!!

  • The marshall tucker band did a alright cover of this :D

  • don't get me wrong tho ur version sound GREAT !

  • Awesome man, you can really play the guitar.

  • Shiner beer

  • It would be better if you drank PBR not Guiness ... Guiness and stray hats clash ... LOL

  • Another good three-chord-guitar lesson. Your site was incredibly useful when I first started learning to play. But what's up with the Reverend? It's the first non-Fender electric I've seen you play. Sounds great.

  • that picking you did while you looped it was the shit!

  • GREAT JOB. MAYBE SOMEDAY ILL PLAY LIKE THAT. TEACHING MY SELF FOR 8 MONTHS KNOW. SO I KNEW THE CHORDS, I PLAY HARP TO THIS WHILE FRIENDS SING, SO I WANTED TO LEARN GUITAR. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.. AND OH TRY SOUR BEER IF YA CAN FIND IT:) PEACE

  • Great lesson Mojo. Another Waylon tune that is not heard, covered and no lesson on it is Memories Of You and I. I think this is a 3 chord song. I think it is one of his most beautiful songs. You should give it some exposure since you have so many people following your lessons and covers, plus the fact it is a Hoss tune. I see you only have the 1 waylon lesson. Hope you do a cover and lesson.

  • Thanks! You did a nice job.

  • just love that solo :) Thanx for great tutorials.

  • this is a marshall tucker band song written and sung by toy caldwell.

  • Mojo your the best I love this Guitar.Wish I could find one like that..I would love to see you play Life in the Fast lane by Eagles.

    Much Love from Mississippi

  • lol johnny cash finger :D

  • You must make a full cover of this song with that amazing solo!!!!

  • hoss is boss

  • Thanks cool vid

  • Hi really love all the lessons that you do. I have been watching your videos now for the past 3 years or so. I have watched this video several time now because well I love this song and appreciate the fact that there is at least one person on youtube who is showing Waylon's version of this song. Can you tell what the strum pattern is.

  • Mojo,

Dude you rock and thank you! Cheers man!

    Scott

  • This song "Can't you see" is one of the top (5) southern Rock songs of all time. The late great Toy Caldwell was the composer. Waylon asked Toy if he could recorded it in late '75 and it came out in '76. MTB version is still the best, nothing against Waylon but no one could do this like the orginal MTB with Toy on lead vocal and guitar.Thank you for posting.I like the different key you do it in. I do it in the D yours sounds good....is your strum pattern D,D, U, U, U, DU?

    Thanks

  • How about a Kokanee? will that work in a pinch?

If Guiness will improve my playing then I can make that switch!

  • You're accent is telling me your Canadian lol. You listen to BTO at all?

  • Well, I am not :) Who's BTO?

  • Oh my bad dude. BTO is Bachman Turner Overdrive, btw.

  • Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

  • bachman turner overdrive

  • @ThreeChordGuitar Bachman Turner Overdrive :)

  • @ThreeChordGuitar Bachman Turner Overdrive....Randy Bachman from The Guess Who..

  • @ThreeChordGuitar Bachman turner Overdrive, "you aint seen nuthin yet" and other such hits

  • anything that waylon sang and layed is the best there is he is my favorite i am just learning to play guitar and i want to play this song so bad but i am having trouble changing chords i haven't quiet learned to change chords is there any tips you can give me or maybe you can make a video about it and post t on your website like i said when i posted one time before my dream has always to be a country singer and i think i can o that with your help of teaching me to play the guitar

  • Also check out the Matt Minglewood version. He's a Canadian Rocker who does an extended version

  • A master at his craft.

  • the marshall tucker bands version is the best and if u r a beginner try used the chords g d and c personaly i like them better

  • I think this song was orig. written by Toy Caldwell who played on Hank Williams Jr.s breakout album "Hank Willams Jr. & Friends" from the early 70's. Just a little trivi for everyone.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • Thanks Mojo. Great learning tool. This is the first song I have learned to play, at 42 yrs BTW. Keep up the good work. Anything by Waylon Rocks!

  • You made my day! Thanks for the post, and continue to learn :)

  • I think i just shit myself from watching this// wow bro u still kick ass// love the solo

  • I would give my left testicle to be able to solo like that.

  • I wouldn't take it ;)

  • LMFAO!!!!!!

  • is this the same chord pattern is mountain man by alabama

  • great solo work is this improvision

  • BADASS MAN!!! god i love this song. thanks for teaching me how to play it. i watched this vid and about 20 min later i was playin and singing. awesome

  • Love this song, Love Waylon, but Toy Caldwell (Marshall Tucker Band) really rocked this, having trouble with the riff can you help

  • thanks man

  • kind of offended man its marshall tucker all the way....

why dont you do it in d c g?

  • beacause D C G is the same thing as E D A people use different keys for different voices. obviously waylon jennings likes a different key than MTB.

  • This is a very good version, I'm not going to dispute that one bit, but I have to agree with you, Blank... the original by Marshall Tucker is the best.

  • I recently bought a Boss RC-2 loop station and it makes practicing so much more entertaining.

    Peace

  • Man! You are such a big help! I'm fairly new at guitar and felt like I was stuck in a rut. Your videos are so informative and have helped me tremendously. Thank You Thank You Thank You. I started learning when i was 12 and put it down. I had to start all over again (36 now). Your keeping me playing, and interested. You Rock!

  • Thank you so much, you made my day :)

  • THANKS MAN YOU ARE GREAT!!!!!!!

  • You are so smart teaching us "how to play for dummys" lol!

  • That is certainly not the perspective from f owhich I teach, though! Frankly, I am definitely one of the dummies myself, more than anything :)

  • do you just strum with your fingernail? Seems like you have an accent,am I wrong?

  • English is my 3rd language, so yes I have an accent :) And yes, I do strum with my fingernails... thanks for watching! :)

  • Your lessons are the best. I'm a long time sax player, but I bought a guitar&amp two weeks ago, learn a few cords, and I'm already making music. Keep up the good work, I have to go heal my finger tips.

  • Thanks man, you made my day. BTW, I know your pain. I am also a sax player who pretends to be a guitar player :)

  • The lessons you give are very helpful.Thank You very much!

  • nice singing man keep on drinkin

  • nice singin man, guiness helps lmao

  • Thanks! And yes, Guinness can't hurt ;)

  • Hoss was a nickname for Waylon

  • hoss wasnt his nickname, its what he called everyone

  • hoss was another name for a thoroughbred that translated over as a replacement for friend or bud or different terms of that nature.

  • im sorry but could somebody tell me what a haws is?

  • this is good but i like the marshall tucker band version better...just sayin

  • Okay! I will attempt to pick my jaw up from the floor! Cool licks brother!

  • This is my third attempt of trying to learn guitar in the last 15 years. I'm actually a drummer with always an interest of learning guitar as well. This third attempt at learning as become SO MUCH more inspiring thanks to your lesson videos. I can't being to tell you how much your lessons have helped me. I also play alto sax, and was professionally taught. YOU bury my sax instructor in a heartbeat!!! Your teaching methods are OUTSTANDING and so understandable!! Thank you so much!!!

  • Thanks! You made my day :)

  • u guys are frikin amazing, but i play by tabs and dont know the chords, i have never been in a guitar class

  • I have never taken a lesson either... and God knows I should have ;)

  • well, can you guys try and insert tabs for us guitarists that dont know chords, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • I have free chord charts on my website :)

  • Good job, enjoy your videos a lot.

    Thanks,

    Brad

  • Great lesson, great solo. Btw, huge fan of the Johnny Cash finger.

  • Oh yeah!!!

    Excellent, good feeling!

  • Strat = Stratocaster je suppose.

    Breizh = Bretagne?

    29 = Finistere?

  • Hi Mojo,

Help me, was the solo E Minor or E Major Pentatonic?

    Thanks

  • nice simple tune, Waylon always did a great job with this one. thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for watching :)

  • Do play everything just with your fingers, or do you use a pick sometimes. I like playing wit my fingers better, but i wonder if i can be fast enough for a solo.

    Greetings Andi

  • I never play with a pick anymore. I tried for a long time, but it just didn't work for me :)

  • It is the same with me, but I always thought you can't play solos like the one from stairway to heaven.

I always thought you can just play chord based stuff. I will give up playing with a pick, too.

    Thanks for your fast reply.

  • Thanks for the question :)

  • Thanks for another great lesson. Who knew so many songs coould be played with only 3 chords. I'm a beginner and your lessons have made my practice sessions enjoyable.

  • Glad to be of assistance!

  • great lesson and song

  • Thanks :)

  • One of my favorite songs. Great instruction on maintaining the perfect timing and strumming. Another outstanding lesson.Thank you.

  • nice to see you got celtic relatives man wish i was one of them then your playing could rub off on me ha ha very nice lesson i enjoyed your soloing too.keep up the good work mojo, although i know you will.

  • Not only do I have Celtic relatives... I am a Celt myself :)

  • thats pretty cool man we could be long long lost relatives although your to good to be related to me especially with the blues playing.and where i come from'County Mayo,'were not exactly known for our blues players

  • Long lost relatives... wouldn't that be fun :)

  • very nice job again mojo, but i have a few question for you about my new guitar if you dont mind. i recently just bought a tgx acoustic guitar, dreadnot body style. pretty crappy but i sanded down the nut, retappered the saddle and put in a ivory saddle, replaced the bridge with a bone bridge, put some bone bridge pins in, and added some good exlixir strings. anything else you might wanna suggest that i should add to it? cause it sound a whole lot better than what it did before.

  • Nope, sounds like you already did a pretty good job!

Other than that, I may recommend a fret job if the fret ends are not kind to your fingers ;)

  • Great job Mojo, loved the pentatonic soloing at the end.

  • Thanks man :)

  • very cool Mojo , lets go to nashville , Ill be your manager , we will get rich.

  • great choice of song!

  • Fantastic as usual, my friend:) Great song! Have a blessed day:)

  • I can't sing and play at the same time. Actually, I can't sing haha!

    Another amazing job, Mojo!

  • I've put my guitar down for a while due to frustration... you're making me want to pick it up again. Damnit!! Lol.

  • mojo. Nice sound from the humbuckers and Dr Z, simple tune and I will study the lead break while wondering around the pentatonic. Oh and by the way the singing is getting quite impressive. Thanks for your time and effort.

  • .

    dude, you are awesome !
