Hello! Have you ever tried - fast abs magic (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cooworker got beautiful 6 pack abs and lost a lot of belly fat with it.
perfect. <3 If you are looking for ATS instruction in Kentucky, I am FCBD Teacher Certified and a Sister Studio. Find me on facebook: facebook . com/HeidiATS
so yeah Maghreb on here is a really old field recording that doesn't exist for sale, so FCBD had Helm remake it so that it would be available to dancers to use. I know the current one is slightly different sounding, but it's what we came up with!
what is the name of the song that starts at 6:50? I apologise if this question has been asked a lot, but I'm a little bit confused because I've been told that it's called "maghreb". However, I did a search for this song with FCBD, and I've found more recent performances of Maghreb played by Helm, but the song sounds completely different to this one heard here.
At 2:53 there is a woman with such control of her abdominal muscles - I am so envious! And so in awe of this wonderful style. More power to you girls!
Another point is that tribal costuming further proves that we do NOT dance for the attentionof anyone. I think cabaret costumes are freakin amazingly beautiful but its not something i would put myself in. Because it is attracting the wrong kind of attention showing all that skin and leg and just having a l pannel that covers your crotch, You cant deny that is MUCH more provacative that our tribal gear. We cover up ALOT lol.
1997 seems like agos ago now. Haha! It would be nice if Carolena Nerricio did a retrospective on this video... like how has ATS changed since she created the dance form, what has changed in her life and her dance group... Someone should pitch that ideo to her. :)
I understand and find that most American women feel that way. I think it is a cultural diffrence in that many cultures don't feel that trying to attract a man is not respecting themselves.
well I'm from Sweden and I think that the most common opinion about bellydance amongst ppl is that it is made to attract men, when infact many dancers bellydance because it makes them feel good and they love the sisterhood and the community that is created around the dance, so i think it is important to get that sentense out there, that most women aren't bellydancing to pay tribute to old customs, that it is a way to satisfy men, but to learn about their bodies and show strength as a woman.
Thank you for getting this out there! I dance Gypsy-style belly dance and am now starting to get into ATS. Oh I wish I could be at your booth..its so hard to get stuff here in Newfoundland.
I feel that all dancers must choose thier own path. And not all dancing is for the entertainment of men. But I don't understand why there seems to be this need to sweep under the rug. That there is a history of gypsy dancers performing to entertain men. For example the Algerian gypsies, these were poor women and they would go out make thier money so the could have a dowry to get married. And it is a accepted custom.
I think you need to look at the cultural aspect of the history of the dance, before making such a sweeping statement. Tribal style has a diffrent history than what the Arabic style does. You really can't lump all styles of belly dance into such a statement. I am not saying that the statement is wrong. Just that it is only one truth about a branch of the dance & does not encompass the whole tree or its roots.
By the way when I say "you" I don't mean a personal you. I mean dancers in general. I know how sometimes a discussion on the computer can get ugly because it sounds like a personal attack. I am just putting my 2 cents in. If and dancers are curious about the Eyptian gypsies. Aisha Ali is a wonderful historian look up her site on the web. She spent much time living with the Gypsies to learn thier ways. I was surprised by what I learned.
ok well that is my opinion and I'am sticking with it, never would I ever perform to attract men. I respect your knowledge and opinion but that is my perspective on it and I'm not changing it. Maybe that was the way they did it back in the old days, but things are different now, women respect themselves and have the power to do so.
Damn right we dance because WE enjoy it. See this is where i find a major difference in tribal ATS and fusion, from egyptian turkish and cabaret, The cabaret form really is mor flirty in my opinion. Where tribal is entirely concentrated on our troupe, not the audience, not the men OR women, just us and the enjoyment and bond we have together.
I have to know the name/album/artist of that song at the end....I think it's called "Maghreb" as I emailed Caroleena, but that's all the info I know...someone please help!!! I love this song!!!
This is perfect to show to all my friends who are interested/curious about tribal or ATS bellydance. I can't wait for your workshop in New Orleans this weekend!

bellydancing isn't for men at all, I mean.. sure men can bellydance, but the danceform is not by any means to entertain men.
