  • He didn't teach us how to make um he just showed us that he knew how to make them

  • He doesn't really show you how to do it...

  • it did sound brutal to me too.. haha but still he's pretty good

  • Wow he thought he sounded brutal, then I can't begin to explain wat I sound like

  • I can't believe he thought it sounded brutal.. I'd love to sound like that!

  • you should make me one

  • Ha he thinks that sounds 'pretty brutal', I'm guessing he hasn't heard a factory made reed in a while...

  • What a very interesting video. My favourite oboist has always been Gordon Hunt but you are now also one of my favouirte oboists.

  • At 2:05, what part of the reed did he cut a little bit off of to smooth out the sound, the tip or the heart?

    Thanks

  • I play the oboe too when you are testing it it sounds so beautiful:)

  • haha... it hurt my heart when i heard him say " it sounds pretty brutal"

i would love to make a reed that even makes sounds. haha

  • @vnspn I know same... When I first heard it I was like wow cool! and then bam he comes out and was like that was horrible! I was like ohhhh.... :'(

  • haha same here

  • I know! His technical ability was amazing.

  • @youngjun3

That's why he's principal in the NY Philharmonic!

  • how much do all those machines cost??

  • Depends. The gougers I believe cost a couple thousand while the rest are in the hundreds.

  • The gouging machine he's using is a Ross Gouging machine, which is priced around $1000. Others usually cost between $1500-$2000.

  • great oboist but I beat him at table tennis!

  • I've been playing for 29 years since middle school and it has always been a struggle. It always amazes me to hear a professional play so easily.

  • does everybody "test drive?" their reed o god how many reed have i use in my life

  • i need advice!! my oboe reed breaks VERY easily.. and its too expensive and a bother to keep buying them... and i think they break in my mouth when i play, HELP ME!

  • You are probably doing one or more of the following:

    1. Biting the reed when you play

    2. Have Too thin windows/Tip

    3. Hitting the reed too hard with your tounge when you play

  • the 2 minute and 50 second reed beats the 5 minute reed

  • The "crow" is abit too low

  • no it's not.

  • but then we have to pay like 5-15dollars

  • isn't, i meant :/

  • wow, he sounds so pretty even when the reed is totally in his favor

  • really coolh

  • is this really complete?
