Mine had a similar problem, i fixed it while i was messing with the FAN connector and also the fan itself, maybe some bad connection there. If you have the same problem try this, seems stupid but it works.
Mine is Acer 1640 and located tons of drivers and mechanical failures. I use to experience a 50% chance of successful startup and program conflict between MSN messenger and media player. I eventually replaced the original authentic windows to some bootleg windows and drivers from random chinese website and it works fine from dat point on. Other than dat, my laptop still has battery failure, touch pad failure, overheat issues, etc. Maybe I should make a video to tell ppl to beware.
i have the same problem too... in my case one of two memory slot fail i buy a new memory 1gb ddr2 and put in memory slot turn off again but i change the memory slot and work very well but if the memory slot fail im fucked =P...
the laptop went back to acer, I think they replaced the whole mobo, graphics card, including the dvd drive. It's been running now for 1 year and it's OK. Keep my fingeers crossed...
i tooked out ma RAM and putaded the dam right back in worked for like 10 mins then the mother fucker shut down on me and was broken again ... faulty RAM?
You might check your RAM. I had the same problem (boot failure, preceded by system freezes, blue screens etc.) - replaced the RAM and everything was back at normal.
However, that said, I have had my laptop since 05, and almost never turn it off. And being that I'm typing on it and using it right now..well, I think that negates the fault of the whole thing onto me. However, yeah..I think they just don't wanna fool with you.
Mine has done that, too. I left it overnight in my car during the wintertime (I know it got below 20 degrees)...and it wouldn't come on for a few days. That was my mistake, but I'm saying this because it seems like they may have abused your laptop.
hey, i had the same problem with my acer 2350 too. spent $300 for a new motherboard and the same problem still returned. i plucked out one ram stick and it booted tho. too bad acer compromises quality for money. i would rather burn more cash for a nice solid thinkpad.
I have the exact problem constantly, when I asked for a replacement they didn't seem to be interested and I returned it to them for they said a more "thorough check" and still have same again and again. Acer is a waste of my time.
Acer is always underestimated. I have an aspire 1693. It's been with me for almost three years, and it's almost 24 hours on and it never failed me. My work is in computer vision and I'm often running very heavy programs on it. I had ran a 96 hours simulation on it.
if only i smashed my screen! the laptop stops working just by itself. again and again and again. i think if it stops for the fourth time i am entitled for a replacement with a new one!
i had the bearly same problem in a other computer...
the problem i have right now is that the screen of my pc it visualizez like a plasma screen!!!! i need help...!!!!!!

have the same problem,
replaced the RAM,
still nothing,
try to run in on a ext. screen
still nothing,so i gues its the graphic card,
but its on board of the motherboard,
so it will cost a lot of money,
so just buy a new one,and put the hard disk in that one,
or try universal boot cd :)

Please never buy any Acer, they are complete trash and aren't built correctly. Save yourself the time or trouble and go with a different brand.

to get image you need to press in the left side of touch pad. The problem is on motherboard... Chipset is not qorking properly
