I can never quite put my finger on what it is that sets Elvis apart. People talk about pitch, range, etc, but I really don't think it is technical ability. There is a loss and a yearning in that voice, something that transcends the actual notes. You can hear singers who are technically flawless, but they lack that soulful or haunting quality. You can be impressed by them, but they don't move you. Singing is about the emotions and that's what Elvis delivers on. He strikes a human chord.

Every now & then , you meet sum1 in your life that kinda fascinates you,for 1 reason or another...well, Elvis was the personification of this feeling.Every facet of His being. Talent , looks , personality, Charisma , attitude..it just goes on & on.Only God can bestow such a complete package. Elvis was His 2nd best work..wink-wink.I guess every 2,000-3,000 years or so...The world gets a present.whats next?

I've listened to everyones rendition of Twelfth and Elvis is the ONLY one who can rival Johnny Mathis on this song.  I like Mathis' version the best, but Elvis' version is as powerful, just different is all. There is not another singer with the range of Elvis, except maybe for the chairman, Frank Sinatra

This was recorded on a Scotch C-120 Low Noise cassette during rehearsals on August 16 1974. Elvis was not recording this under the usual recording studio environment. He still does such a good job especially with the over dub by David Briggs.

The Osmonds recorded this and released it I always thought of it as a Donny song, but clearly anything Elvis sang, he owed it. No one could so completely bring out the message or story of a song like he did..
