Sugar Ray was a beautiful technical boxer, well ahead of his time... LaMotta was a tough brawler who wanted to go toe to toe, Robinson great boxer but LaMotta exciting to watch!!!!
Ali wanted to be like Marciano since he was a small child. Both were great boxers. How does a video of Sugar and LaMotta turn into an argument about Ali?
@MrChocolateCoconut Hard to KO a big-headed fighter. That thing can take a lot more abuse. But it'll just sit there and take a beating until it falls off. Lol

@ajp135212, Emmanuel Steward, a man who who knows so very, very very much more than you do about boxing, (please don't embarrass yourself by trying to deny this). Was stunned when told that Mayweather tried to put himself in Robinson's league, his shocked response was "he really didn't say that did he.
@Statenizzy, I've seen a lot of clueless, stupid, I mean really stupid statements posted on these forums, but yours is about the dumbest ever. LaMotta would have gotten killed today??? There has never ever been a tougher pound for pound fighter ever. He fought the greatest many times over and was never knocked off his feet. Fighters were every bit as well conditioned in those days and if anything more durable because they fought so often. You are clueless.
@petercriscuola Lets not forget Ali said several times Robinson was the best p4p ever and his personal idol and that if he had been a natural heavyweight, nobody would be able to beat him.
@petercriscuola Point is, Ali himself knew what Robinson was made of so it doesn't really matter what Ali's fans think. Ali also emulated Robinson's style but as much as he tried to emulate Robinson,One thing Ali didn't have that Robinson had was Punching Power. Robinson could dance and box, fight and brawl, outpoint his opponents or KO them out. He was close to perfection.
@Tusc9969 i give you that robinson had more punching power, but ali was faster and he could take every punch, he fought against some of the best punchers ever and ali beat them all.
@petercriscuola One thing you also failed to mention that would help your arguement a bit is that Ali also had one of the best chins in the history of boxing but he didn't have the same speed in the 70's that he had in the 60's when he was cassius clay.Ali was also great getting into opponent's mind and playing mind games. Everthing else he emulated from Robinson...from the footwork to the rope-a-dope! Only thing I hated about ali was that he loved grabbing behind the opponents head.
yes you are right, but everyone has idols and everyone emulates someone else, it happens in sports, music, etc, and sometimes the pupil becomes better than the master.
dont get me wrong, robinson was great, he was awesome too, but i think ali was even better.
@petercriscuola Well Ali wasn't Robinson's pupil but I understand what you mean. Im just saying Robinson had a bit more abilities than Ali...Like I said before, Robinson could do it all and he did it real sweet like sugar. Ali in my book is #2 after Robinson but i agree both are great legends and they will never be replaced!
@petercriscuola So wrong. Ali was great but even he admits there were better. Robinson was 128 - 1 at one point ! Besides Ali was a loser who disgraced his family and turned his back on the country that gave him everything !
@5Cdarkwing wars are a fuckin business, ali was right, you are a moron, people are not suppose to kil each other, wars represent everything that is wrong.
besides this has nothing to do with boxing, so shut the fuck up you sick bastard.
lamotta wouldve got killed in todays even 20 years ago world...its not that jake was bad..its just boxing is more technical and training is way more intense.but jake is still a legend
@StatenIzzy1 Boxers today are nothing compared to boxers like LaMatto and Robinson. Pacquiao is 54-3 and Mayweather is 42-0 and those are today's best boxers........ LaMatto is 83-19 and Robinson is 173-19. The old school boxers fought & won way more than boxers today will ever win. Mayweather would have gotten killed up against Robinson. No comparison!!
Man these guys are so flawed, no defense, no counter punches, no head movement from robinson, just there to be hit...never the less he is called they call him the GOAT ,,i think ali and prime roy jones were much better
@ajp135212 WE STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF THOSE WHO CAME BEFORE US. WHAT IS KNOWN NOW, WAS NOT KNOWN THEN. Still, I suggest you watch the Sugarman many more times, read his record and then reconsider your assessment. I think you will come to a far different conclusion.
@OUTDOORSGY09 his skills are not what the hype was about,, ive been watching his fights online and im being honest here when i say a guy like jones could have easily beaten every guy srr has beaten in the fights ive seen, i gotta question what does he do when hes in there with a quick hard hitting counter puncher like jones..idk man i try to see the greatness but a guy getting hit so easily is not what i expected if lamotta is the best hes faced then jones would pose a big threat
@OUTDOORSGY09 i mean can u help me out, cuz its not like im hating or anything but i want to see the best opponent hes faced...show me where can i see his greatness spoken of, because i watch alot of floyd mayweather and in technical skill this man is not even close..he getting hit so easily, no headmovement, counter shots, no defense, no reflexes,...was he old here???
@ajp135212 OK, think of this. If the Sugarman magically came into the future in his prime and learned all our the modern techniques and had strength coach like Manny etc. etc., you still dont think Suger Ray is the GOAT ? I imagine you know that both Ali and the overwhelming majority of experts think he is. The Sugarman KOed the Raging Bull when Lamotta outweighed him by 16 lbs ! To me his reactions are AWESOME and his left hook a virtual scythe . Course beat GOAT #2 Henry Armstrong too !
Opinions please...Who has greater power? SRR or Pac?
I feel as if its gotta be SRR by quite a margin... but i've read people (fools in my mind) say pac has better power and boxers hit harder today... I've personally never really seen anyone welter or middle hit like SRR... his punches look like they could easily bludgeon you to death (technically he did kill someone in the ring so... kinda accurate)
Pac has uglier more like "arm punches" and its lucky to see more then 1,2,1,2,1 that look softer
@NateTheG0v i think generally the old timers had better punching power mainly due to proper technique/stance which doesn't seem to be taught these days.
Maybe its time to reintroduce tree chopping in the ol' training sessions.
LaMotta was much more skilled than people give him credit for. Not just an irresponsible aggressor, but actually a skilled technician when it came to getting inside.
@TranceEuropeExpress lol he come foward and is a huge punching back, he stics his jab in there and lands it at will because srr wasnt as smart or technical so he didnt know how counter the jab...lamotta if in there with a prime roy jones would have never seen the 6th round because he was just way to open
@ajp135212 You're forgetting a couple of things. First, LaMotta was never knocked down in his entire career. And since the old fighters generally punched harder than the modern ones, it's unlikely any of today's would be able to lay him out.
Also, the old fighters had way more experience than today's. Robinson had a total of 200+ fights, for example. You can't really compare novices (todays boxers) with seasoned pros (the old timers)
@JohnnyFriendly lol well to be honest with u roy jones in his prime makes these 2 look slow, and the movement speed, and counters is somthing u never saw during this time.and todays boxers includes mayweather a tactical genius in the ring.. never will u see mayweather take 3 jabs to the face, slow ones may i add...never will u see mayweather get hit so easily, look close, no head movement no counter shots, SRR has the recodrs he has the speed the power but lacks intelligence and defense
@ajp135212 Anyone can look like a tavtival geniud fighting flakes. When Mayweather comes out fighting demons with a record of 173 - 19, then you can talk about what Mayweather can do. Until then, Mayweather has completed 2/9 the journey Robinson has.
What made them great fighters was not that they won. It was that they were demons who wanted nothing more than to be the true best, and didn't even consideer getting beaten as a deterrence.
All these guys that keep saying boxing was better in the old days...seriously wtf. Come on. These guys couldn't throw a jab correctly. Please, someone tell me how their boxing is better than someone like Ray Leonard or Ali, or Hearns. Really. They had style, the guys here in black and white are throwing lunging shots and these hooks aren't hooks they are swings. Please don't mock me by calling me an idiot. Rather, educate me on what I seem to be missing, please.
@SpawnofHastur Well everyone talked and talks about these guys like Louis, Johnson, Dempsey being the greatest of all time, so it doesn't surprise me. As you can see here, Robinson had a good jab but his hooks were caveman hooks. He was round about the only good jabber before Ali came around. Everyone else fought like cavemen...
i dont understand, y wouldnt robinson wouldnt let his uppercuts go? hes got good uppers and lamotta has his head laid out perfectly for them, if there is a fault in my observation someone please point it out, it only seems right from my point of view
@thewhiteSRR ur a coward for not being judgemental and stop labelling la motta as a warrior dude is a bum and thats all he is. like u. and it did rhymed so TRIPLE DAMAGE FOR UR IGNORANCE
Boxing was better back then because they weren't afraid to go full offence and straight pound got pound.. now a days its all defense and little fighting...
@rhidiandavies1991 well the real life blonde girl that la motta liked at the start said that jake la motta was worse then the la motta de niro porttrayed when jake asked her was i that bad.
I came to watch this bout after playing Fight Night Round 3. I was so outraged at terrible they had made Sugar Ray Robinson box in the game, I had to disqualify myself kneeing that video game pretender in his bit-mapped balls. Electronic Arts should be ashamed at how they mishandled this amazing fighter. At least Jake LaMotta is somewhat respectable in the game.
@sparkyinbath Boxing is the same today as it was then just that today you wil get a larger gap between the fighters. They hit harder today move faster know more it's just the gaps. Like any other sport boxers know more so their train up better giving them more consciousness about the fight. They just went out and fought back then.
@topdog90U i must say that's not an accurate depiction of boxers of the past, they knew more than the fighters of today. I can't go into it in more detail due to character count with youtube comments but i recommend you read the book 'the arc of boxing: the rise and decline of the sweet science' if you're really interested
@HarryTheTalkingDude Know I agree and understand what your saying about the craft of older boxers, but like any sport athletes evolve. What boxers do today they learn from older fighters, but the different is what you see a Joe Louis do or a Jake Lamotta. It look so much more impressive back then because the knowledge of the sport wasn't as hig as it is today. Look how Floyd for example Master the craft of the phily shell. He learn it from previous fighters, but not just one many.
@topdog90U "It look so much more impressive back then because the knowledge of the sport wasn't as hig as it is today" - the thing is, i could reverse that and apply it to boxing today. Mayweather as you say looks impressive because he mastered the philly shell, but he looks truly impressive because you rarely see it today - the only other guy I know today using it is James Toney. But back in the days of guys like Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore it was more commonplace
sugar ray robinson needs floyds help, he needs floyd to teach on how to not get hit by that jab...lol floyd could teach him a thing or two about counters....u see those slow jabs hitting robinson, but i cant believe the greatestt fighter should be getting hit by thins,,, type in mayweather pull counters so u can see the difference form this sluggish performance to the quick reflexes of mayweather....man ima recieve hell for writing this but hey, its true
@ajp135212. You dont know nothing about boxing robinsons defence looked shit becouse it harder to block punches with smaller gloves......and floyd is the one who learnt from sugar ray robinson.....and robinsons style is similar to thmmy hearns and dont forget hearns would knock floyd the fuck out
@1SugarRayRobinson1 believe me i kno more then u, but with a username that says surgar ray robinson i would see why u would say hes better,,,,,hop offf his dick and look at the styles, mayweather would out box this guy, he looks like shit here, and u have fast fighter who struggle to touch floyd
@1SugarRayRobinson1 i have never sseeen a more overrated fighter. i heard so many things about how perfect he was and how hes was the most amazing fighter...lol roy jones would way more amazing and roy jones in his prime would have hurt this guy....trust me roy jones was 7x as fast then lamotta and his reflexes were 10x as good....no matter what u say what im seeing in this video is not what the legend says, i was expecting to seee somthing amazin, instead im seeing 2 sloppy fighters brawl
@ajp135212 roy jones is a cheater...a roid head.....and he had trouble with antonio tarver dont forget that robinson is a better preasure fighter than antonio tarver and robinson fought skillful fighters too like kid gavilan and randy turpin
@1SugarRayRobinson1 yeah but roy fought tarver whhile he was declining, the roy jones from the 90's would have fairly easy, trust me it was not the same fighter
@Aztech355 well records dont win u fights, skills do and roy was much sharper, faster, was harder to hit, and was a better counter puncher,,, never in a million year would a prime roy jones struggle with a slow guy like lamotta,,,
@Aztech355 yeah and lamotta gave a guy like robinson a problem, a problem he would not have gave roy jones,,, believe me take a good look, lamotta landed lead left hooks to the top and back down,,, lol if thats able to land on robinson just picture a guy whos quicker, with more punching power like roy jones and in much better physical condition..look it up roy jones lead left hook, that shit would land at will on srr cuz the man had bad defense
I follow boxing and I know about Roy Jones don't worry about that. I would rather compare Roy Jones in his prime against Joe Calzaghe than to compare Roy to Robinson. Lamotta is not in the comparison, as for your comment about records don't win fights skills do. Explain how 173 wins and 108 ko's is not skill sir.
@Aztech355 lol ibecause it was different eras, those fighters were not as technically sound as the fighters today, they were more brawlers, chances are all those 173 wwould have gotten spanked by roy jones pretty easy,,,thng is ive seen robinson winning off wild punches,,,it wouldnt fly today with guys like floyd or a prime rj...believe me srr wouldnt kno what to do with a guy launching lead lefts and rights in a blink of an eye,,,he ddnt kno how to ove from lamotta slow shots
@Aztech355 he was not ray robinson, he was faster, harder to hit, quicker reflexes, better counter puncher, and gives u more angles, and moore movement, hes throws better combos...so u are right he is no robinson,,,,,cuz u will never see a slow guy popping roy jones with the same punch over and over again...cu unlike robinson roy had head movment, unlike robinson roy would counter the shit outta u...and u cant say im wrong, about those things roy had more skill
i really dont see the greatness, believe me im tryna find it but i cant, hes too overrated...honestly in mny opinion i think a guy like mayweather can outbox him, hes getting hit so easily by a slow sluggish fighter with no defense,,,imm gonna recieve hell for this comment but its just the way i see things i dont see the greatness robinson looks so open i just dont see the defense , floyd is a genius in the ring and i think he would take advantage of srr inability to defend and counter
@ajp135212 You have to remember. We're in an era where the talent pool for boxing in America is the lowest it's ever been. Boxing was the big money sport up until athletes started making millions in baseball, basketball, hockey, and football. Boxers made way more than they did then. Floyd doesn't get pushed. Hatton was a hand me down Jake Lamotta. Mayweather fights older and smaller fighters. Robinson fought everyone. Floyd's gotta fight Pacquiao to achieve greatness, cause he has no one.
@HeavyD2544 thing is no one can say mosley was a nobody, no one can say beating dela hoya when he was 33 out weighing floyd by 17lbs is nothing, u cant say that him beating corrales was nothing, u cant say that him beating castillo a very good lightweight was nothing,,,he has many good names but ppl shoot him down, now hes fighting victor ortiz a man whos 24 loooking better then hes ever looked and when floyd beats him ppl gotta give him his credit...look at robinsons skill wise hes not better
@ajp135212 Look man. Robinson and Lamotta are way way past their prime here. This a slow motion version of their first three fights. At one time Robinson went on a tour of Europe fighting 10 times in a month. He did that twice in his career. De La Hoya was over and done with by then. Mosely was old as shit too. They aren't the kind of guys who dominated their weight classes either. Robinson had already fought was 123-1-1 at this point. Lamotta had fought around 70 I believe. Ortiz who?
@HeavyD2544 lamotta and ry fought alot of times, and i have seen alot of clips of there fights, he was like 20-30 when he fought lamotta, he was fighting lamotta for the 6th time when he was 30,..so i wouldnt say they were past there prime
@ajp135212 This is something you wouldn't understand then. 125 fights is more than most fighters entire careers. Those blows to the head and body slow down a fighter over time. Have you ever done a sport that involves making weight? Making weight for 125 fights weakens you terribly. His prime was on the decline. Same with Jake's. Most fighters are lucky to have 70 fights in a career. Why do you think Sugar Ray Leonard retired with only 40? I don't think you understand the grind..
@HeavyD2544 yeah ima boxer myself i kno the toll it takes but, i just believe we dont have enough evidence to say this guy was the best because its different era and not to piss off anyone but i feel floyds is a better boxer.for all u know im not seeing greatness because of him being older or just an off night.....but all i know is from what i have seen if he cant ko floyd which already damn near impossible with his defense he wont win..are there any other fights of him in his prime i can watch?
@ajp135212 I'm gonna look around and see what's here. It's usually not easy to find a young Ray. Same with Jake. I know of a good tribute video to Jake, where he looks ten times faster than he does here. Imma look around and see what I can find. Might take a while though. The weight is the thing that tears away the most sometimes, especially if its way below your natural weight. I started boxing after high school, but I wrestled before that. I had to weigh in at 119 every week. Brutal.
@HeavyD2544. Naseem hamed was shoaboting and pernell beat the crap out of two mexicans but he got robed rwice the mexicans neverr give the blacks the credit they deserve :(
@1SugarRayRobinson1 Hamed was totally outclassed, and showboating is all that guy was good for. Should have kept his hands up when Barrera was hitting him straight rights and jabs all night. Barrera's guard barely gave up anything to Hamed who telegraphed his punches because he had to lift his arms from his side first. Shoulda kep em up!
WHAT? Pacquiao is not over rated. He isn't the best of all time or even in my top 20. BUT he is the best boxer in the sport today. He is not a bum, he is in great physical condition and he also has a great chin. Pacquiao is right where he should be.
See, you get these kids that watch one fight and assume Manny Pacquiao is the best of all time. They have no idea about the warriors in the past. As for pacman and chavez, i think chavez wins but it's impossible to compare boxers of different era
LaMotta was one of my favorites..tough s.o.b not because he was a great boxer, but because he had balls and would fight anyone... even if jake would get beat.. Thats what made him a legend and that he was liked so much.. We will never see another LaMotta..The closes fighter that comes to mind that compares to Lamotta in recent years is Arturo Gatti..thanks and good vid
Sugar Ray and Lamotta once tried to rob me in a dark alley, so I kicked the shit out of both of them. It was a genuine fistfight. We're all friends today though
@pakr4r7y Sugar Ray Robinson fought in a way tougher era than today. 15 rnd fights. Smaller gloves. Only 8 weight classes if I'm not mistaken. Only ONE title per weight class not 4. Fighting tough fights twice a month instead of twice a year. The modern day P4P fighters in Pac and Floyd are great for this day in age. But in all honesty Robinson would have beaten them both.
@1SugarRayRobinson1 with that style of his , left hand positioned way so slow, he's lucky he's not fighting today. He'll be sucker for Pacquiao's right hook followed by a left cross.
@Tomifukitoji So what if he drops hes hands low roy jones used to drop his hands and he would beat pacquiao floyd mayweather drops his hands low......and didnt pacquiao drawed with an unknown black american boxer called sanchez who used to drop his hands and didnt pacquiao ducked a black american called raheem lol what a coward and but I agree with u pacquiao would beat robinson..........in a singing contest loool
@1SugarRayRobinson1 LOL, roy jones is a good fighter no doubt about that, but his low left guard style against a southpaw opponent would suck him dry. have you ask a southpaw fighter named antonio tarver about that? guess not. and by the way, dirty rotten agapito sanchez ain't american. he's from dominican republic. hahaha! you're a big joke man!!!
@Tomifukitoji roy jones wuld have riped pacquiao apart dude pacquiao had trouble with sanchez a class B fighter man u know nothing about boxing ,u dont know nothing about robinson he dsent always drop his hand he only keeps hes hands up when he needs to and alot of fighters get away with it becouse of their speed and chin u dumb prick and pacquiao fights the pussy way keeping boyh of his hands up lol
@1SugarRayRobinson1 I'm guessing you have never boxed or aren't a very good one if you do. Keeping your hands up is the best way to box, plus it's much better for getting you're jab out their quickly. Very few fighters go with their hands down and it almost always catches up with them. It's why Roy Jones went way down hill after he got knocked out. He became afraid of having it happen again. That's what leaving your hands down does for you, but Robinson was on another level than Roy.
@1SugarRayRobinson1 Well, you're comment made you sound like a retard. In fact, both of you guys are idiots who sound like people who have never boxed in a ring before. You sound like fans who have never trained or done the sport. You have no clue what it feels like to make weight or run before and after you're in the gym every day. You're both clueless.
@HeavyD2544. How did I made my self soud like a retard? I was just trying to explain something to the pactard...stupid cocke head u might esswell call eveyone that arguse on youtube a retard.....u might eswell just call ur self a retard LMAO

Man these guys are so flawed, no defense, no counter punches, no head movement from robinson, just there to be hit...never the less he is called they call him the GOAT ,,i think ali and prime roy jones were much better
ajp135212 2 months ago
@ajp135212 WE STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF THOSE WHO CAME BEFORE US. WHAT IS KNOWN NOW, WAS NOT KNOWN THEN. Still, I suggest you watch the Sugarman many more times, read his record and then reconsider your assessment. I think you will come to a far different conclusion.
OUTDOORSGY09 2 months ago
@OUTDOORSGY09 his skills are not what the hype was about,, ive been watching his fights online and im being honest here when i say a guy like jones could have easily beaten every guy srr has beaten in the fights ive seen, i gotta question what does he do when hes in there with a quick hard hitting counter puncher like jones..idk man i try to see the greatness but a guy getting hit so easily is not what i expected if lamotta is the best hes faced then jones would pose a big threat
ajp135212 2 months ago
@OUTDOORSGY09 i mean can u help me out, cuz its not like im hating or anything but i want to see the best opponent hes faced...show me where can i see his greatness spoken of, because i watch alot of floyd mayweather and in technical skill this man is not even close..he getting hit so easily, no headmovement, counter shots, no defense, no reflexes,...was he old here???
ajp135212 2 months ago

NateTheG0v 3 months ago
@NateTheG0v i think generally the old timers had better punching power mainly due to proper technique/stance which doesn't seem to be taught these days.
Maybe its time to reintroduce tree chopping in the ol' training sessions.

LaMotta was much more skilled than people give him credit for. Not just an irresponsible aggressor, but actually a skilled technician when it came to getting inside.
TranceEuropeExpress 3 months ago
@TranceEuropeExpress lol he come foward and is a huge punching back, he stics his jab in there and lands it at will because srr wasnt as smart or technical so he didnt know how counter the jab...lamotta if in there with a prime roy jones would have never seen the 6th round because he was just way to open
ajp135212 2 months ago
@ajp135212 You're forgetting a couple of things. First, LaMotta was never knocked down in his entire career. And since the old fighters generally punched harder than the modern ones, it's unlikely any of today's would be able to lay him out.
Also, the old fighters had way more experience than today's. Robinson had a total of 200+ fights, for example. You can't really compare novices (todays boxers) with seasoned pros (the old timers)
JohnnyFriendly 2 months ago
@JohnnyFriendly lol well to be honest with u roy jones in his prime makes these 2 look slow, and the movement speed, and counters is somthing u never saw during this time.and todays boxers includes mayweather a tactical genius in the ring.. never will u see mayweather take 3 jabs to the face, slow ones may i add...never will u see mayweather get hit so easily, look close, no head movement no counter shots, SRR has the recodrs he has the speed the power but lacks intelligence and defense
ajp135212 2 months ago
@ajp135212 Anyone can look like a tavtival geniud fighting flakes. When Mayweather comes out fighting demons with a record of 173 - 19, then you can talk about what Mayweather can do. Until then, Mayweather has completed 2/9 the journey Robinson has.
What made them great fighters was not that they won. It was that they were demons who wanted nothing more than to be the true best, and didn't even consideer getting beaten as a deterrence.
Escereon 2 months ago
@ajp135212 Psh. Jones may have won but he wouldn't have gotten him out of there. LaMotta had a great chin unlike *ahem* Roy Jones.

@MysteryoftheGods I can't talk about LaMotta, but for Sugar Ray...well, you mentioned Ali. Even Ali held that Robinson was the best boxer ever.
SpawnofHastur 3 months ago
@SpawnofHastur Well everyone talked and talks about these guys like Louis, Johnson, Dempsey being the greatest of all time, so it doesn't surprise me. As you can see here, Robinson had a good jab but his hooks were caveman hooks. He was round about the only good jabber before Ali came around. Everyone else fought like cavemen...

@sparkyinbath Boxing is the same today as it was then just that today you wil get a larger gap between the fighters. They hit harder today move faster know more it's just the gaps. Like any other sport boxers know more so their train up better giving them more consciousness about the fight. They just went out and fought back then.
topdog90U 5 months ago
@topdog90U i must say that's not an accurate depiction of boxers of the past, they knew more than the fighters of today. I can't go into it in more detail due to character count with youtube comments but i recommend you read the book 'the arc of boxing: the rise and decline of the sweet science' if you're really interested
HarryTheTalkingDude 4 months ago
@HarryTheTalkingDude Know I agree and understand what your saying about the craft of older boxers, but like any sport athletes evolve. What boxers do today they learn from older fighters, but the different is what you see a Joe Louis do or a Jake Lamotta. It look so much more impressive back then because the knowledge of the sport wasn't as hig as it is today. Look how Floyd for example Master the craft of the phily shell. He learn it from previous fighters, but not just one many.
topdog90U 4 months ago
@topdog90U "It look so much more impressive back then because the knowledge of the sport wasn't as hig as it is today" - the thing is, i could reverse that and apply it to boxing today. Mayweather as you say looks impressive because he mastered the philly shell, but he looks truly impressive because you rarely see it today - the only other guy I know today using it is James Toney. But back in the days of guys like Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore it was more commonplace

I follow boxing and I know about Roy Jones don't worry about that. I would rather compare Roy Jones in his prime against Joe Calzaghe than to compare Roy to Robinson. Aztech355 5 months ago
@Aztech355 lol ibecause it was different eras, those fighters were not as technically sound as the fighters today, they were more brawlers, chances are all those 173 wwould have gotten spanked by roy jones pretty easy,,,thng is ive seen robinson winning off wild punches,,,it wouldnt fly today with guys like floyd or a prime rj...believe me srr wouldnt kno what to do with a guy launching lead lefts and rights in a blink of an eye,,,he ddnt kno how to ove from lamotta slow shots

ajp135212 6 months ago
@ajp135212 You have to remember. We're in an era where the talent pool for boxing in America is the lowest it's ever been. Boxing was the big money sport up until athletes started making millions in baseball, basketball, hockey, and football. Boxers made way more than they did then. Floyd doesn't get pushed. Hatton was a hand me down Jake Lamotta. Mayweather fights older and smaller fighters. Robinson fought everyone. Floyd's gotta fight Pacquiao to achieve greatness, cause he has no one.

ajp135212 6 months ago
@ajp135212 Look man. Robinson and Lamotta are way way past their prime here. This a slow motion version of their first three fights. At one time Robinson went on a tour of Europe fighting 10 times in a month. He did that twice in his career. De La Hoya was over and done with by then. Mosely was old as shit too. They aren't the kind of guys who dominated their weight classes either. Robinson had already fought was 123-1-1 at this point. Lamotta had fought around 70 I believe. Ortiz who?
HeavyD2544 5 months ago
@HeavyD2544 lamotta and ry fought alot of times, and i have seen alot of clips of there fights, he was like 20-30 when he fought lamotta, he was fighting lamotta for the 6th time when he was 30,..so i wouldnt say they were past there prime
ajp135212 5 months ago
@ajp135212 This is something you wouldn't understand then. 125 fights is more than most fighters entire careers. Those blows to the head and body slow down a fighter over time. Have you ever done a sport that involves making weight? Making weight for 125 fights weakens you terribly. His prime was on the decline. Same with Jake's. Most fighters are lucky to have 70 fights in a career. Why do you think Sugar Ray Leonard retired with only 40? I don't think you understand the grind..
HeavyD2544 5 months ago
