Look at how camouflaged it is against the background, it must have roamed those mountains for thousands and thousands of generations. Pause the video, while looking away....wait one minute and try to spot it back in less than 2 seconds...
yeah very rare to see them in action like that. Its still the only video I ever seen on Snow Leopards. I saw this when it was aired on AP a few years ago. Would love to see an update show on this Leopard since its been collared
If I knew I was being studied by bearded nerds and was forced to wear a collar the size of a small ice cream truck, I'd just say fuck it and go extinct.
With all the political and social unrest in Pakistan, its surprising(pleasantly) that someone has time to care for its wildlife (even if its outsiders, at least someone is allowed to do it).
Hey Brainiac Scientists, did it cross your oversized brains to make the colar the same colors as the leopards coat, ditto for the bright blue ear tags. Are these the people we want analyzing the data?
That one kill doesn't prove anything. That cat will have to work harder for its food because of that white collar, I don't care what they say about it.
this is a beautiful, elusive creature. i can't understand why it's necessary to use such devices on an animal that lives in places humans mostly do not. the intervention of humans, as in my opinion, will only hurt the animal in the long-run. i think the size and the sky blue tags are ridiculous. how can one get to know a species from a laboratory and not witnessing it over time with real eyes.
@levthelion yeah but those collars are helping researchers track down more of these animals. because the snow leapord is an elusive animal that is rarely seen by humans
Why is this thing so huge, and why do they tag her anyway ? Just let the animals live normally. Of course she's going to hunt even with an alarm clock stuck on her neck, how else is she going to survive dumb fucks ??
@KaLNFoRc3R i know you commented a long time ago, but the collars a designed to make sure the animal is comortable around its neck. plus its to track it down and enough of these placed on the cats will let researchers know more about it because the cat is rarley seen by humans
@IslandThunder84 NO! DUMB ASS!. why in the hell do she need to role around in the dirt to camouflage herself?. her coat already look like the rocks and gray like the rocks..
I think the problem is mostly the bulk of the battery pack. Because they're so elusive and roam over such huge areas once a leopard is collared it must have a powerful transmitter and long life battery. The battery will last for about 3 years or so and has to be waterproof, survive sub-zero temps and all kinds of impacts. Newer digital GPS trackers are being used and require much less power than old transmitters, I think even GSM mobile phone technology is being adapted.
Mobile phone tech, now there is an excellent idea. Now I did not think about the battery pack. Batteries weigh quite a bit, so what you see on this collar is mostly battery which must be cumbersome. If there is a chip implanted, the heat of the animal will keep it from being drained from the cold and the chip could be waterproof. Also what about an extensive study over a course of many years that is funded properly that would alleviate the cheapest approach which seems to be the collar.Thanx
@kevsterino Screw battery life, i don't like going in the wild and every animal i see has some kind of tag. People want to see nature untouched and this 20lb dumbbell hanging from the neck is an eye sore. what a disgrace
