@TheDaedalx - I could have, but it just wouldn't sound as good!! Just like the fuel injection, I could have gone with a carb but that would have been too easy. The plenum had to be turned 180 degrees and had to be altered to go over the fuel rail along with the throttle body had to be altered. There were many of these kind of changes throughout the van.
@battousai9439..... Did you see under the hood of this van? It was easier to change the spark plugs with the V8 than it was as a V6. That's because I made it that way. After installing an automatic brake pedal I had to move it to the left about an inch and a half and make a new mount for the gas pedal. There is no way to put a V8 in an Aerostar without making it fit. This was a GREAT daily driver.
i had a 92 aerostar and i treated it like i was walking on egg shells and one day i was driving to el-paso and the engine broke and it only had 86,000 miles on it now i have a 98 ford taurus which i treat it like a race car and it has 121,891 miles on it think and i had 0 problems with it FORD is the best i think the aerostar was built wrong or something idk lol
If you read some of the replies under these videos, youll see what kind of miles (trouble free) I put on this van and how many were with a V8. Ive owned a lot of different makes and model vehicles, and can tell you they all can and will break sometime if youre lucky enough not to have it when it breaks, thats great. Good luck!!!
That would make a great story but, the Mustang engine went in while I was single. My Mustang was a loaded GT, 5-speed, sunroof car with several upgrades. Very fun car for four people. I like the idea of a driveline transplant without my wife knowing it, but she likes it and is all for it. My project now is a 440, 4-speed into a car Ive owned for over 30 years.
If you can fabricate everything you cant buy, you can do this. If you need to pay someone, it wouldnt be worth it. The only thing I could find was the swaybars (PST). Everything else had to be fabricated. The final cost of the first EFI V-8 automatic conversion cost me less than $100 because of what I sold the V6 5-spd for. It took me 6 months to finish it that time (Dec. 95 to May 96).
it is not impossible to put a 5.0 in an aerostar. the front end will from a mustang will bolt up to an aerostar. and also if a zz3 crate motor can be put in a chevy astro i dont see why its not possible
@WARD5KUSTOMZ An Astro uses a 4.3L V6, which is a 90 degree enfine based on a 350/5.7L. The Chevy V8 is just longer than the V6, while the 2.8/3.0/4.0 V6es in Aerostars were 60 degree engines, so the 302/5.0 is both longe and wider than them.
Its real, Im putting something together now that will show a lot more of the van. When Im finished my son will post it with the other videos on here. Youll see the Ram-air/cowl-induction hood (I made it from a factory hood), X-pipe dual exhaust, PST sway bars and a lot more.
You could have went with the Taurus SHO's Yamaha 3.2L V6

Yeah, Aerostars just don`t look as cool as Astro vans. Still, I got much respect for this project.
