  • lmao

  • i still remember my first joy electric album. The Tick Tock Treasury. I keep coming back to Joy Electric. there is just no other band like them. awesome.

  • I love Joy Electric.. my dad (a christian music salesmen) introduced me to them ... shit probably mid 90's. Loved them ever since.. unique, fun, and a hint of sadness, perfect combination. Ultrabeat is another one to check out, but I'm not sure what youtube has to offer in that department. It's more techno/dance but worth the time in my opinion!

  • When I first heard this song a few months ago, I was like, "Where has this been all my life?!" I'm definitely a JE fan now.

  • I have a question about Joy Electric. Is their style of music under Electronica or Techno? I have always wondered if someone can answer this it would be awesome.

  • @fireheartgames

People like to argue about this but just know that in the end it's pretty much synthpop. Also, Joy Electric is a one man genius.

  • @maxxpower17 Thanks I appreciate the help on this, and although the lead singer is the main genius isn't their a drummer and a guitarist. I remember seeing a video on here that shows two other people. In all fairness I think they need a little credit for their parts right. Have you heard him in the Foxglove Hunt band with the lead singer of Fine China( sorry I'm not to good with names and I forgot both of theirs lol). I like that band they rock in it.

  • @fireheartgames

When Ronnie performs live Fine China main man Rob Withem plays the drums, and when The Foxglove Hunt performs live Mr. Martin plays the drums, while Rob plays the guitar. I assure you however that Ronnie Martin pretty much does everything in Joy Electric. In the first couple of albums Ronnie had some help from Jeff Cloud, but by the time Ronnie started with his "Legacy" project Jeff was gone. Hope that helped.

  • @maxxpower17 Hey thanks again for the help but I'm still curious on one of Joy Electrics live videos here on YouTube it showed Ronnie Martin had a drummer and a guitarist does this mean they where just back up for that performance or what?

  • @fireheartgames

Do you have a link to the video?

  • @maxxpower17 Dude just look up their song Sugar Rush on YouTube and it should show the live performance I'm talking about. I said on guy is playing guitar but I messed up it's a keytar not a guitar. Anyways you'll see what I'm talking about when I say two other guys in Joy Electric.

  • @fireheartgames

I checked out the video mate. Back then Ronnie had a lot more help when he performed live, one of the guys was Jeff Cloud and the other guys I'm not quite sure. After time Ronnie started using a sequencer which he controlled and Rob Withem would play the drums.

  • @maxxpower17 Cool so I see what your saying now. Even though Ronnie had help live he pretty much produced all the music right. Man that's what I call talented. God sure blessed this man with it to be able to do all of this basically on his own. That pretty cool if you ask me.

  • @fireheartgames

It's definitely awesome and he's definitely awesome. Ronnie's the number #1 influence and inspiration in my music. I make synthpop music with analog synthesizers and "cheesy" analog sounds, and if it wasn't for Ronnie's music I wouldn't be were I am now.

  • @maxxpower17 That's awesome do you have any videos posted of your music? I would love to check your music out if you do.

  • @fireheartgames

Nah dude. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a vocalist, they seem to be pretty rare these days for some reason, especially female vocalists. If you want I could show you a song but it won't have vocals, and to be honest my songs were tailor made for huge vocal melodies.

  • I find nothing strange about his voice. It's all part of their sound. I love it!

  • Okay for one: everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Those of you who like this music: why are you even letting disparate opinions bother you? If someone dislikes something you like, it's really none of your business, even if they're jerks about it. One the other hand, however, you guys saying you don't like this music don't need to be so snotty about it.

Now, can we all go back to simply commenting like civilized people?

  • ummmm his voice is um im speechless

  • excellent music, but strange voice in tune! wonderful news! they have a long career!

  • he isn't a good singer at all, his instrumentals are alright, he shouldnt insist on putting his voice out

  • @Woopycushiun dude shut up you come and insult our videos for some dumb ass reason, keep shit to yourself

  • @Dillorzaarour U mad. it isnt good music and you know it

  • @Woopycushiun you know i can start bagging on you, you need to shut the fuck up!

  • @Dillorzaarour music sucks QQ

  • the voice him is uggly

  • absolutely brilliant, this!! The music is like a masterful continuation of Kraftwerk. The video pays direct homage to Kraftwerk (man-machine, numbers, 80s digital imagery). The singing reminds me of that mid-80s "early gothic" style such as Xymox, and Cabaret Voltaire. I'm an old schooler and I LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • Daring music imho. I almost always enjoy JE, this initially put me off, it sounded pretty over the top. But that is the point of the song I think, enjoying music or art requires us to let ourselves go and leave our inhibitions about sound and sensibility behind. Ronnie is a thoughtful musician and is far past the point of making music just to win short term approval. He is taking an old genre and finding ways to be a trailblazer while keeping songs down to simply, enjoyable hooks.

  • I believe this song could rightly stand as the greatest testament to the beauty and genius of electronic instruments in the history of music. With a swollen heart I vow that Ronnie Martin will live on as one of the most treasured and unsung heros of his musical generation. God bless you Ronnie. Your efforts do not fall on deaf ears.

    -White

  • His voice shocked me at first but this is my second time listening and it has definitely grown on me.

  • i don't know why...but i like it!!! :D

  • Great stuff :]

  • The first few notes that he actually sang were surprising to say the least, and at first I really didn't like his voice. Definitely an acquired taste... but I acquired it within the first few seconds :) Holy WOW! Many, many, many thanks to the man who directed me here!

  • oke weird...

  • eww his voice!

  • the intro sounds like a Tatu song

  • ANALOG!

  • Ronnie Martin Kicks Ass!

  • this song is so bad hahah

  • holy shit seriously...

  • 38 people need to have their thumbs shorn off.

  • I agree with jjmini, Ronnie from JE has been doing his stuff for yrs , fantastic synthpop, unique to only him , even empire of the sun has borrowed some of Ronnies sound , never get sick of JE

  • @PARADOXXMUZIC oh gosh! I made that post awhile ago. I'm really glad you agree.

  • I'm not afraid of what electricity made, I LOVE IT! :) I didn't like this song or album at first like Ronnie's other works, but it grew on me. I love this track and Only Copernicus.

  • The music is just purely freakin sweet but in my opinion the voice just doesnt fit right

  • @mccornflake1 i agree. i hate it when bad vocals ruin a song.

  • I dont understand why he thought a vocal style change would be a good thing. He sounds ill, gawr!

  • amazing...

  • this is a great song

  • i <3 Ronnie Martin with everything in me

  • I didn't know Gary Numan had a son...

  • Why does this have so many views? Stop watching this! Go watch the Burgundy Years video.

  • That is a good one.

  • @DrMadrigal NO U.

  • If anything i think it's his natural voice...anyone who sings into a mic knows what im saying...since Ronnie is a pureist, it makes sense that his vocals be unscathed like his synths...Ronnie is not the best singer in the world, but his melodies and artistry is unparallel

  • I agree

  • I like Robot Rock and The Children Of The Lord Ep the best.

  • Whatever!!! His voice is fine.. People complain way too much about his voice.

  • I love it. Everyone seems to be pretty damn critical of his voice. I like it. It is different which is something joy e,ectric has always been. Different. If he started playing what everyone thought he should sound like then he wouldnt be an artist. He would be a puppet. You guys need to lighten up and learn how to enjoy music,

  • he always reminds me somewhat of Gary Numan

  • lmao his voice is sooooo funny, this guy is really only good live. He was Amazing at Tomfest 09

  • I didn't know there were any more Tomfests. I haven't been to one since '99.Oh, '99! "The summer of love." You're only sixteen once. *sigh*

  • ohh my.. :S

  • I love the song! But he could have made a more interesting video for it.

    -Robert

  • dont like the voice too much but i love the music.

  • I usually like Joyelectric, but this is a little too trippy. Plus, his voice sounds awful in this song

  • Too trippy? What is this "too trippy" of which you speak? Didn't know there was such a thing.

  • Video rocks, the Beats rock...but this guy sounds like Adam Sandler doing a dorky skit voice

  • music is really good, and his singing is good , but his voice is just horrible

  • i do not like his voice

  • This guy is fukin kool

  • This just in, Martins video for what electricity made and his entire grandfather album are inspired by a crazy acid trip.

  • heard this on pandora, absolutely love it :)

this will definitely get played @ our next party :)

    Radio Clandestina, Puerto Rico.

  • I'm all for Tooth and Nail, but he sounds like a goat that got punched in the throat, repeatedly

  • /agree 100%

  • Wow O_O, I read that then heard his voice... Ouch haha.

  • GreenDiseasePJ:

If you hates the music, why are you even here listening to it?

I totally hate Kate Perrys so-called music and think that it is an insult to every person with a bit of taste. But I don't go to her videos here and say to all her fans: "Kate Perry sucks, how can you idiots listen to her!" So shut up if you don't have anything meaningful to say.

  • @Grahnen15 well some people are looking for new kinds a music.. so not everyone that comes here already knows him... and btw.. kate perry sucks i agree with you haha

  • Five stars for song . . . two stars for video. Martin's amazing music deserves equally well-crafted visuals.

  • there just as good as i remember them 5 years ago when i was in to this music

  • this is the jam

I play it out on electro nights

  • try "the phonograph plays" from "hello, mannequin" too :)

  • haha i know! its hilarious!

  • P.S. smart book FTW!!!!!!!!

  • ronnie is amazing.

    he is a genius.

    and his voice is amazing.

no matter how he uses it.

    period.

  • wow....yr an idiot.

  • and by the way. this isnt meant to be techno. its called synth pop.

techno sucks. i live in detroit and i spend a lot of time in the scene.

    get over yourself dude.

how old are you? like 12?

he made his voice like that on purpose. he experiments because hes open minded. much unlike you.

  • actually if you knew anything about music you'd know that *yr* is a sonic youth reference as thurston moore always spells it *yr*.

    seriously. get over yourself.

people like you are the death of originality.

  • "death of originality".......that's really cool. I like that. Just to clear up the record, i like Joy Electric, he's grown on me.

  • Nice having no come back for the rest of the shit i said, and i keep hearing this "get over yourself". What the hell is that supposed to mean? How is acknowledging this shit as the worst music ever make me full of myself? I'm sure plenty of others think the way i do. I'm all for originality but if this is the direction new music is going to take, then i'm done listening to music. "Death of orginality" is good by the way. Too bad it perfectly describes this.

  • ok. i have a serious question.

what kind of music DO you listen to?

    what bands?

  • Pearl Jam mostly, Green Day a little bit. Flowbots, Metallica, rap that actually has some meaning, Muse (their music sounds good.. vocals.. not so much..) absolutely no country.. That might be worse than this. No I take that back. And a random assortment of songs from different artists but the ones i said are what i mostly listen to. Why? Oh i am to against just going to watch a video then bad mouthing it. The thing is my friend told me to watch it while he was trying to stop laughing.

  • well you just named two of my most hated bands.

personally i think eddie veddar sounds like a goat on steroids, BUT im not going to tell you to go kill yourself because you listen to what i consider shitty music.

    live and let live.

  • techno doesn't suck. now YOUR not being open-minded. its all a matter of opinion. and, seriously, if synth pop is similar enough to techno to be mistaken for it, then they must sound alike. and if so, then this song sounds similar to "sucky" music. is that what youre trying to say?

  • im personally not a fan of super repetitive minimal warehouse music.

i love electronic music of all types. but techno is kind of boring.

and sure...it sounds similar...if you dont know the difference.

to people who arent into electronic, its all just *techno*.

so what im *trying* to say is,

if you dont like it, dont listen to it.

i dont like techno, but i dont go watch a bunch of techno videos just to insult the people who like it.

  • i love this, the track reminds me of electro bands like The Knife and specifically their vocalist Karin Dreijer for some reason ...

  • wow he's wearing normal ppl clothes in this one lol ^^

"Silver! silver! silver!" <3 that song :)

  • Why is everyone complaining about his voice?!? that is one of the things that make his music great! all of JE music is great.

  • dude i so agree with you, if his voice was normal then it would sound like all the other music vids.lol

  • I have been a fan of JE a long time and I have to say it is time for this project to die. Ronnie has got to be running out of ideas or something.

  • As a synthesizer enthusiast, there is no way to not like this.

  • I seriously can't watch this without laughing. 1] the video itself looks like something from a homemade Matrix movie and 2] I don't get the song in the least. But don't get me wrong, I like JE. This video just makes me giggle. X3 It's surprisingly catchy too. =o

  • when hes not dressed up in retarded costumes, hes actually okay looking.

    music rocks though =]

  • i agree really wierd, not so good vocals, but i cant. stop. watching. it. really. i can't....

  • First JE I owned was a cassette of We Are The Music Makers...the vocals on this song sound like his live vocals. After following JE for 12 years, I have to think he's doing these vocals on purpose for some artistic purpose.

  • This is so weird... I can't stop watching it...

  • Ronnie is a great artist and JE has had the longevity it has enjoyed because of a faithful following of listeners that refuse to settle for cookie-cutter-spam-music. sure... there is a place for such music. But JE has always delivered the goods. His voice is not be the best. If his voice does annoy you, don't try to convince others of what bothers you. just move on and find something you do like. I for one enjoy his voice. it's raw and not run through auto-tuners like most pop artist these days.

  • his voice has always been kind of like that... i can see why some ppl wouldnt like it but i am a huge fan of JE

  • Joy Electric is, in fact, a great artist. His voice is proof that he's not willing to conform to idiots who think the new bands on Tooth & Nail are talented.

  • seriously. I totally agree, what is this new stuff t&n has been releasing lately..

    FF5?

Nothing more than a bunch of sellouts.

<3 the good old days of t&n, like JE, mewithoutYou etc..

  • I think I know why his voice is may be like that. He's been making music for years now, so his voice might be starting to age. I still however believe Ronnie is a talented guy. I do like this song.

  • just horrible i mean the beat is okay but THAT voice brakes the whole song o.o

  • cant say that this is the best choice that Tooth and Nail records has made as far as investments go. his voice just sounds annoying, im sorry.

  • C'est une joke ses vraiment nul a chier!!!

  • LOL

  • love the beat, im just not feeling it with the singer

  • this song is... intresting, i would have to say that his song monosynth is better, this ones ok

  • this song is so addicting greatly composed !!!!

  • love this song

  • awesome

  • This guy is awesome.

  • you guys just dont "get" joy electric, its apparently beyond your understanding

  • i would have to agree with you [:

  • haha what? it's not a matter of understanding, it's a matter of preference, I prefer a voice that doesn't annoy me, you don't "get" "opinion"

  • Alright, then how about a giving a small child the most expensive steak ever. Do you think the child could savor the steak? Or would it be wasted because the child didn't "get" it? Or maybe the child would rather have some candy(underoath) instead of actually even wanting the steak in the first place

  • ok why don't you use an analogy that actually applys, i'm far from being an infant when it comes to music, i'll even admit i'm one of those annoying music elitists, quit acting like you have to be enlightened to like this voice, it's annoying and is the very reason he's only this big after years of work. I prefer Jónsi Birgisson's voice of Sigur Ros, now THAT'S a voice.

  • "it's annoying and is the very reason he's only this big after years of work."

No, it's because Ronnie doesn't want to be "big" and likes for his music to remain obscure that way he knows who his REAL fans are. Personally, I didn't hear anything wrong with the vocals. He really shows a lot of emotion in his voice in this song, more so than in a lot of his other songs.

  • It's all a matter of taste, no need to fight...

  • this is soooo sick

    <33

  • he released something like 24 records since 1994, HE's the best in electronic, check out ROBOT ROCK and CHRISTIAN SONGS, the very best!!!

  • He is different and unique. You should love him for playing to the beat of a different drum. He's also a Christian artist for those of you who don't know. 1999 album "Christian Songs".

Those of you who say that it's an insult to the Christian music community should rethink yourselves. Anything you do for God is great, no matter what others say. (as long as it fits with God's rules) Many missionaries were stoned because they wouldn't conform. DIFFERENT = GOOD

    Keep All The Virtues!

  • Come on people! Are you afraid of what electricity made? Just because you're not used to it or that you don't like it doesn't make it bad. I hate metal, I hate country. I don't go around slamming artist's music because of it.

Ronnie Martin is a true musician. A true inventor. Truly unafraid to do that which others couldn't. Everyone uses guitars, simple vocals, and drum and bass to make all of their music, If you're lucky you may get a keyboard too.

  • I came

  • I saw

  • Just getting into this in English, but one word mate: existentialism

  • This music is the reason people punch babies...

  • dane cook is awsome!!!

  • at least hes not hiding it with autotune like 99 percent of modern bands these days. There something to be said for people to go against the whole autotune trend these days. Its an acquired taste yes, as is synth pop. If you think this is bad, id wonder what you think of Gary Numan.

  • not so sure on the vocals but the beat is amazing.

  • why would he use autotune...he's completely in tune...

  • this isn't my style of music, but it is kind of interesting for a change, i like some of the other stuff this guy did too

  • terrible

  • I think it is very good, this guys just doing what he likes to do and u all hate him for it.

    you should b ashamed

  • You guys are all retarded. The new album is awesome, the vocals are awesome, and you can all go cry about it to your mommas if you dont like it.

  • i think the whining has something to do with being at least 33 years after the event.

And no let us NOT listen to Joy division and celebrate the irony. If it needs pointing out, you're an idiot. End of.

  • It's a one-man project with original instruments. ;)

  • i dont understand the video....why is it so boring, its catchy, ,but boring and a bit wierd

  • holy crud....

  • where's the beef? cool beans

  • I like some of Joy Electric's stuff but these vocals are awful.

  • I agree they just got worse !

  • wtf is this. he should have just stuck with his wierd ass little girls voice he always did.

  • Weirdest band of the century

  • this is shit.

  • WILLIAM HUNG

  • i am brian peppers

  • Must be watched in high quality.

  • is this a joke?

  • I just had it TRON and Joy ELectric, I know Mr. Marin knows something about TRON (1982).

This is great! I was looking forward to the next Music Video and I'll look forward to next ones.

    END OF LINE.

  • synth classic)
