  • Reeks of style. Where did we go wrong?

  • I love the groovy begining of this show...really cool music too. This show was awesome....

  • Is this how British people act?

  • @Earthman99999 yep :)

  • @Earthman99999

Absolutely, old chap. This is exactly what Brits are like.

  • @Earthman99999 Yes indeed this is exactly how we act, We all wear suits all day every day and are trained in the gentlemanly arts of self defence using rapier and fistcuffs the use of the pistol we leave to women and the colonial hoi polloi.

  • Wtf hulk... iron man..... captin america..... thor..... what happend

  • I thought captain america was gonna be here.... Woops

  • I love the way he looks at her at .59. This was my favorite Avengers intro. They were a great pair.

  • Have you ever noticed that you never saw blood or a policeman (except as an actor in the ZZ von Schnerk episode) in any Avengers episode. What a fantastic show it was. No wonder it is a cult favorite.

  • Steed would get pulled down by a SWAT team if he brandished that swordstick now.

  • In France we know this show as "Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir" wich means "Bowler hat and leather boots" which was an original and better title than "The Avengers" in my opinion : )

  • @jayasuriya101 because it is exatcly what the title says it it.

  • @jayasuriya101 Cause, It does'nt say MARVEl Avengers, Doesn't it? It's from a 1960 TV show.

  • @Sknwlkr111

A TV show that is much better than any comic book 'hero'.

  • I remember when CBS would show this at 11:30 P.M.on Saturdays, it was magic !

  • This is the best TV opening I've ever seen.

The part where Patrick snatches a carnation flower with his weapon and Diana catches it is really cool... is symbolic of the chemistry these two had on the screen.

    Excellent!

  • Childhood TV memory. They had it. The re-made movie...mmm not so much.

  • Dang if that Peel girl doesn't remind me of Cpt. Janeway.

    Just a tiny bit.

  • I thought Diana Rigg was great as mrs Peel but before her so was Honor Blackman in her leather cat suit

  • In Germany the series was very popular under the very apposite title "Mit Charme, Schirm und Melone" (With charm, umbrella and a bowler hat). The Germans have always recognised our ascendancy in detective fiction. are obsessed with Edgar Wallace and Sherlock Holmes, and are fascinated by the often obsolete trappings of British gentility such as the bowler hat (of sacred memory).

  • Great video! Let’s play a little game If you were able to have your own cult TV channel what 15 series would you select? Mine would be (in no particular order) The Avengers Star Trek (Kirk of course) The Prisoner The Invaders The Man from Uncle Space 1999 Randall & Hopkirk (original) The Saint Blakes 7 The Persuaders UFO (which deserves a remake with new effects please and more alien action) The Outer Limits Sapphire & Steel Red Dwarf And just to be silly – the A Team Yours ?
  • diane rigg the most beautifull woman on the earth!!!!!!!

  • @MrDrende Man,you said it!.

  • Oops i thought this was the new

movie opening titles. So i was exited. Lol

  • Ah now THIS is the opening I remember as a kid!

  • I use to watch this when I was 10...still love it.. they were awesome!!!

  • people who don't like this show should keep in mind that the avengers was not meant to be a documentary on spy-craft. if was a fun, whimsical, delightful 60 minutes spent with two very appealing characters with once-in-a-millennium screen chemistry.

if you want realism, go visit the nearest bus depot.

  • I loved this show, (least until Ms.Peel left). I thought it quite smart.

I was 10. Still one of my favorites.

  • emma peel....*sigh*

  • " Some of these shows werembarrassingly stupid." You're not only an college ass wiper of demented people but illerate as well; there should be a space between ALL words. Robert go back to grammar school and stfu .... chuckles.

  • awesome

  • Eh? What stupidity?

I think you're confusing (bless) stupidity for FUN

  • Is it just my imagination or does Steed look like British Prime Minister David Cameron?

  • I LOVE EMMA PEEL

  • Steed FTW

  • comment les anglais faisaient ils pour créer des séries

parfaites du générique de dubut au générique de fin

  • Watched just to hear this greatheme song and to see Diana Rigg.

The shows were rather boring and stupid.

Wish we could hear the longer ending theme song.

  • @robertgift

    typical american no taste

  • @fattwat1 [Typical American. No taste.]

Many Americans desire lesstupidity in such shows.

  • @robertgift you're an ass wipe.

  • @robfergusonjr Why yes! In college I worked as an orderly and cleaned the butts of demented people. You were one of my patients? Some of these shows werembarrassingly stupid.

  • @AmericanPowerBase Not me I dont ask for shit, & I think Americas leaders had their own agenda in both world wars, it wasnt an act of kindness to the British, & anyway I think the Russians in WWII did all the work. Going to war is seldom done as an act of kindness by any country, its usually for its own interests... You should watch an excellent documentary called "Allies at War" it was never about helping Britain, but was about stopping the Soviets making mainland Europe Communist.

  • Emma Peel and Steed forever. One of the greatest TV series of all time!

  • I LOVE this shit ....This shit is the BEST!!!.....AVENGERS FOREVER!!!

  • Great clip! For me, it was that loose flip hairstyle of hers that did it. Yes, carefully styled, but loose. In New York, I was copying her style and it was being claimed my own, but I didn't invent it, I copied it:! Patrick was a great foil for her artistry, bravo to him!

  • @LouisPlume Just some facts and stats according to U.S. FBI 2009 figures - Just over 8 million gun owners in US. Just over 10 thousand firearm homicides. Est. 65 to 75 % of the victims of these homicides had criminal records. (Est. comes from from 13 cities where stats were gathered.) Banning guns here would be about as effective as banning illegal drugs. We, as part of the 99.9 % of the reponsible gun owners would like to see tougher penalties against the irreponsible criminals.

  • @northwi60 Yeah but emma could shoot my pistol anytime!

  • One of the best tv themes in history. the show sucked after Dianne left !

  • @lcolby11 Yeah. Tarara Boomdeeayy didn't cut it.

  • One of the best tv themes in history

  • is that a cap-gun cos Brits aint allowed real guns,,LOL

  • @pentogram23 Yes probably a cap gun, we are not even allowed replicas unless they are in orange plastic, and if you paint one gun metal colour you can be arrested, no joke. On the plus side though, we dont shoot 20 thousand of each other a year, but getting a licence to hold a replica for film making is a pain.

  • what a show,,,classic 60s tv

  • There are not to many woman that can carry of wearing a black cat suit and not look slutty. Diana Rigg was a woman that could carry it of not only with sexiness but with elegance at the same time.

  • "Extraordinary crimes against the people and the state have to be avenged by agents extraordinary. Two such people are John Steed, top professional, and his partner,Emma Peel, talented amateur.Otherwise known as the Avengers."

  • Nice.

  • emma peel ahh sigh

  • dicen que los viejos tiempos son inolvidables, y esto es una muestra de ello, deliciosamente "sexi" sin ser chabacano

  • hey, i've made my own opening of the avengers tv series exactly based on this one, if you want see it go see the video comment up

  • Swinging London!

  • I need to kick 8 people's butts Avengers style, how can you possibly not love this theme tune?!!!!!

  • Diana Rigg is so gorgeous! love the hair

  • no one was more beautiful than Diana Rigg.......

  • Sir Denis Eton-Hogg at his finest!!

  • I love Diana Rigg.

  • Ah, the things I wanted to do to Emma Peel

  • i agree much classier

  • Loved this series, still do, as well as the music. I have all on VHS. After I purchased all the tapes, THEN they came out on DVD! Love 'em anyway. I plan to watch all tapes, marathon style, very soon!

  • Best tv series couple ever

  • ahhhh, so classy

  • I used to have a crush on Diana when I was a little boy. She was so hot.

  • POP ART

  • this is classified.

  • There's only one Emma Peel for me and that's Dame Dianna Rigg! The best import the UK ever sent next to The Beatles. Long live The Avengers!!!!

  • @chimptor50 Highly Agree!!!!!!!

  • @chimptor50 Voted one of the all-time top 10 sexiest women in television.

  • wheres iron man? and thor?

  • @mryeti94 i know, IM SCARED MAN!!!

  • QUIERO VIVIR ASIIII!!!! IDOLOSSS!!!

  • Real Class.......not like now, so sleazy and trashy.

  • nice ,upload......

like to buy this series if it out on DVD....

  • These titles were LONG you don't get LONG titles anymore. tv is RUBBISH now.

  • I loooooooooved this show when I was a kid. I think I thought the lady was my mom.

  • The coolest the UK has ever been.

  • What a fantasic show that was, reminds me of growing up.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah good old 60's stuff !!! corny but good

  • id like for her to pop my cork XD

  • Comment removed

  • This is my favorite show

  • There was a great chemistry on screen between Emma Peel and John Steed plus a witty banter. The only on screen couple to come anywhere near that magic is Mulder and Scully.

  • Emma Peel = M. Appeal = MAN appeal

    Get it?

  • Best intro ever to the best tv show ever. nuff said.

  • I wanted to grow up to be Emma Peel. One of the best TV shows ever! If they tried to remake it today, they would just replace charm with filth. Miss this show! There's nothing of value to see on TV today.

  • @BeezoHow well said !! re filth

  • Thanks so much for the in color upload !!!!!! It's so nice to see Real Gents as Super Heroes. Protect your Side Kick With Your Own Charm and Charisma !!!!!!!! A Magickal Man from a Magickal Land !!!!!!!!! HOORAY For You !!!!!!!! says, TeRa1320 Cyberpunk ExtroDinAire !

  • Oh, Mrs. Peel......

  • Emma Peel was so called because she had M(an) Appeal.

  • Emma Peel............. need I say more?

  • "The Cast" with Harper and Owens is coming soon.

We hope to have much to celebrate.

    Love!

  • Diana a lady to die for. Steed though was great, a perfect gentleman and never stole limelight, a real English gentleman and they complimented eachother perfectly.

    A lady and a gentleman.

  • one of the best themes ever

  • to put it simply and no emphasis whatsoever, GOD BLESS YOU for uplading this ;-)

Sunshine of my youth, loved them like they were family.

  • POP ART

  • loved this show and LOVED Emma Peel

  • Sexy, and SMART. Mrs. Peel was the brain, but Steed was the fox. Both very intelligent, but not in the same ways. Another thing was how they worked together, and RESPECTED each other. They were a great team. Honour(sp) Blackman, earlier as Cathy Gayle worked with Steed the same way, but the scripts hadn't evolved to the point of the classic when Diana Rigg played Mrs. Peel. Tara King didn't last as long because the series was canceled, supposedly because the orders from the US fell off.

  • Truthfully, Sex is out of style now- compared to those days.

The worst thing you could get could be cured with anti-biotics...and nobody I knew got anything. The answer to "You want to have sex?" was usually "Why not?". Too bad the people who want to control your life and brain have ruined everything. What's popular now? Glenn Beck. That's about as far from sex as you can get.

  • Just love it when some one makes a funny remark to a comment, then the other person replies , and they haven`t got the joke at all.............irony just goes right over some peoples heads.

  • The Saint , Avengers and The Champions are the best TV theme music ever, of course the avengers are number uno LOL!!!

  • One of the coolest tv themes ever. I believe a live orchestra performed this theme. The Avengers was great 60s tv. Diana Rigg is simply drop dead gorgeous. Perfect blend of style and cool.

  • WTF

  • @m14g I'm so with you on that. Especially the 'W'.

express yourself in words and sentences, maybe I'll know why I disagree with you...!

  • GOD I loved this................out of all the various intros that were created for the show, this one's my #1 favourite. Excellent!

  • I love the opening theme music. There were things about the 60's I'm sure were great, but it's important to remember that this is 60's TELEVISION. Not real life. Depending on who you ask, the 60's may not have been all that delicious - and every woman wasn't looking like Diana Rigg.

  • How much I missed them !!! They give me nice memories !!!

    Thanks for this video !!!

  • Yes it must have been awful in the 60s. You just have to feel sorry for poor Patrick MacNee, year after year working on the same show with Honor Blackman, Diana Rigg, Linda Thorson and Joanna Lumley, hey wait and minute!

  • emma pill my favorite girl i like u!

  • oh yes, the social unrest of the times had SOO much to do with this music - after all, McNee was personally responsible for sending in Bull Connors and Rigg engineered the Gulf of Tonkin

    /sarcasm off

  • classic british tv

  • @dancingdiplodocus >>"the world was so much more gentlemanly back then"

I love the show but I'd hardly call that period of time gentlemanly while the war in

Vietnam raged, in addition to the murders of JFK, RFK and MLK. The racial violence and nastiness toward blacks in America at that time was nasty beyond belief.

  • @itsumadekokoni --> Racial nastiness like the 1955 vicious killing of Emmett Till (14) in Money, Mississippi. The 1963 bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham killing Denise McNair (11), Addie Mae Collins (14), Carole Robertson (14) and Cynthia Wesley (14) and the murder of Fred Hampton in 1969 in Chicago. Go to Wikipedia to find out just how outrageous the details of their deaths were.

  • Mrs. Peel what a hottie, when I was a kid I wanted to peel away that leather suit she wore!

  • the diana rigg series was much better than the others you agree?

  • she was 1 of the first woman i thought pretty. i musta been tween 6 / 9? great intro music.

  • In real life, he was convicted as a pedophile and she was a lesbo.

  • @dumnuts1 dude? really?

  • The chemistry between Macnee and Rigg is sublime. Recently saw alot of the episodes on re-runs. The show had it`s faults, but were tiny compared to it`s charm, style, wit and the feeling i get that both Macnee and Rigg are winking at the viewers watching in their living rooms and saying " we get the joke, you get the joke and we`re all just having so much fun".

  • haha i thought when i saw avengers opening title that it was the marvel avengers

  • POP ART

  • One of the best show themes ever - the show wasnt too bad either.

  • Interestingly, while John Steed was shown in bowler hat/umbrella; the essence of the English city gentleman ... Patrick Macnee had become a US citizen a few years earlier, in 1959.

  • Musically, this is STILL one of the best TV theme songs EVER! The Avengers was a fun show, too. I'm glad it was made in England. Had it been produced here in America, the writers would have had Steed and Mrs. Peel get married eventually. It would have messed up the whole premise of the show.

  • POP ART

  • Diana Rigg is alittle old, but she's still sexy.

  • God rest Johnny sleep well.

  • Let us not forget Sir John Dankworth, who passed away earlier this month, and who composed this stylish, classic TV theme!

  • the world was so much more gentlemanly back then, and so much cooler

  • @dancingdiplodocus And they just don't write great, memorable TV show theme songs like they used to. It is a trip to hear some of the really great stuff again: Hawaii Five-O, The Saint, Ironside, Man From U.N.C.L.E., Get Smart. I even put The Monkees opening theme in that list. All great stuff!

  • @dancingdiplodocus

2/3s of the population of the UK would despise a man like this as being "posh".

And America? Even worse. They'd probably just think he's gay.

    Such a shame...

  • @ChopstickBrando Im from the US..i loved this show ; 0

  • @ChopstickBrando

thats where people get steed wrong

he had a nasty side to him when needed

  • @dancingdiplodocus

    So true.

    And Diana was so fine.

  • @dancingdiplodocus i second that!!!

  • @dancingdiplodocus

Amen to that! far cooler without even trying, unfortunately nothing like things are today :-(

  • Where are heroines like this today?...ones who ARE sexy, instead of slutty pretending and failing to be sexy...

  • @CashForGash To be fair, you can have the sexy ones and I take the sluts.

  • @manzi71

great, thats that settled then :P

  • @CashForGash

Back then the ladies had class.

  • @CashForGash

Yup, tv nowadays no longer has the charm of the older days.

Tv is full oh hoars (don't remember how to spell it), idiots and noobs. Good old uk tv, the world needs more of it.

  • @CashForGash You're right. It was indeed quite a different time from today. We've become too high-tech. Simple productions like this where the storyline made the show (rather than special effects & sex) just wouldn't sell today. Sad, but true.

  • @CashForGash I'm here for you.

  • At the moment Diana pops her lovely head out from behind that chair, I'm transfixed!

This was such a great show! One of the finest ever. Steed was dashing and cool; Mrs Peel was elegant but tough and very refined!

  • This was shot onto 35mm film, not ordinary videotape like other programmes that's why if you watch the TV broadcasts or DVDs the quality is outstanding.

Don't be fooled into thinking modern day digital HD is the best quality picture you can get, it is in fact 70mm analogue film which has a horizontal resolution exceeding 4000 lines, HD digital can't get anywhere near the quality.

  • Surprising but true !

Of course it depends on the quality of the remaining material.

  • Diana Rigg is Stunning !!!

  • Mr. Steed....great show - loved the English shows

  • Lets talk remake to erase the awful 90s version with Uma Thurman ???? If they were to do another hopefully with a good director and script I think Rosamund Pike would make a good Mrs Peel she is very posh and English.

  • Loved this show as a child back in the

60s!! Only woman my Dad ever commented as "hot" was Diana Rigg and he didnt miss an episode.

  • Most Stylish.

    Best Music.

    Best Performed.

    Best Choreographed.

    Sublime.

AND it was done over 40 years ago ...

  • Comment removed

  • Oh man, that woman was sooo sexy !!!!.

  • This was one of my favorite shows as a child. I always liked to see the opening title scene--didn't want to miss it.

My favorite 'Emma Peel' was Diana Rigg. Good chemistry between Macnee and Rigg.

  • I'd rather be John Steed than James Bond. Steed had more fun and was more fun to be around.

  • the best of the Avengers openings

  • Definitely. Summed up the series beautifully.

  • The only complaint I can register is that they are using the WRONG Champagne glasses.

  • My favorite version of the opening. Love the perc.ussion at the beginning.

  • These days they would not waste 1 min on opening titles its all done in a flash especially on US shows they are the worst. I have not seen many episodes of the Avengers but the titles are so cool.

  • love you Emma.....

  • I love Diana more than can be expressed. and the greatest tv import from GB ever, except for "The Prisoner" : however, McNee's contribution is always underrated, he had to handle comedy, drama, action, and even romance as Steed, and did a superlative job, w/ Honor, Diana, Linda, et. al.

It's surprising how much time McNee has on camera, as compared to Diana.

    Any.who, a great show.

  • Diana Rigg, (inherently ?), always seemed to play her role with a wry and ironic twist. She, paired with Patrick Macnee (the young Jacob Marley btw) defined "The Avengers". It was as catching lightning-in-a-bottle.

I'm thankful to have had that.

  • Look, it`s Mrs. Tracy Bond! ;)
