  • Killer Instinct clone...

  • @RetroShinigami Yeah, the Cojag was the arcade version of the Atari Jaguar.

  • The Bezerker feature was added at the very end, and they thought it would add to the game. To me it just muddied it up. What happened is we couldn't compete with the next Street Fighter so they cancelled the project. It is rare that a game makes it that far and gets killed. I left the company shortly after the project was cancelled.

  • Also there were two types of backgrounds. There was the paralaxing background like the graveyard where as you move left and right, the perspective of the background changes. It is better on the prison level. The other is a looping movie background. We had lots of free hard drive space, so size wasn't the issue. There were also some origin to the characters, but they decided to not bother to explain them. The last boss is supposed to be an insect alien.

  • There were finishing moves, bezerker moves, and combos as well. If I go digging I think I can find what they are. I coded them all up, but I wasn't that good at fighting games. The problem with the game and why it wasn't very good is no one on the team was really a fighting game player (including myself), so we were only copying, and not actually creating something that we liked. There were three programmers, but one left early in the project.

  • I would have to agree with some of the comments of the review, but not all. The game was not finished, but the machine was on Field Test. So it cleared Field Trial, and it was in the field to see how much it earned. There was probably only a month left of work on the project. So what you see is pretty much the finished product. You are right it was a KI ripoff. We had a KI machine in our area, and refered to it constantly. I was one of the two engineers on the final project!

  • Was one of the guys names Bolok? haha...

  • I think Killer Instinct 2 looks bettah!! Get that also! It's brilliant entertainment! :D

  • this game looks kinda crappy to me lol just my opinion :P good review though

  • Cant expect much from something that wasnt finished or released.,

  • @gamemaster14neo This is also running on a mame emulator, and is no where near as smooth as the actual hardware.

  • @10p6 My computer at the time didnt run the game too well while capturing it, also in the many years since I made this review the emulation has improved greatly.

  • @gamemaster14neo I know all about Jaguar emulation. The Jag hardware is one of the hardest consoles to emulate because of it's custom risk design. For a 3+ year old video, it actually runs pretty decent.

  • @Lunarl3lade Bare in mind that this was developed nearly 20 years ago.

  • Seems ambitious if you think about it. But it seems that the creators of the game were relying on graphics to seel the game and not the fact that it should be fun to play. BUT nobody does that anymore, i mean selling a unfun game with awesome graphics > playability is something nobody does with the nextgen consoles *sarcasm

  • game mechanics is nothing like KI snce u cant do combos from certain button imputs sir =)

  • It kinda feels like Killer Instrinct but since its unfinished its not fully polished and lacks combo flow.

  • Why did Atari fighting games suck so bad? lol

  • @neomedia74

MACE WAS THE SHIT! and Tenth Degree showed promise

  • Glad I never heard of this game.

  • what the hell are u talking about this game is fun and provides plenty of diffiuity moves and you forgot the sucides where it's like a reverse of fatalites. if you like killer instinct and mortal kombat than you will love this game just that their no endingS!

  • I personally thought this game just had a very generic feel and the moves arent nearly as refined as Killer Instinct. Basically in this game you could quickly push buttons and pull off a combo without knowing any real moves.

  • The scrolling backgrounds are pretty impressive.

  • They are all done in full motion cg video.

  • The main reason no one heard of this is it was not released. Atari had a problem releasing games thinking they wouldnt do well because of competition.

  • And Atari was too cowardly to bring this to the N64, don't ya think so?

  • The game wasnt even finished yet, the project was scrapped, Plus atari was too busy with their doomed system the Atari Jaguar to bother with nintendo at the time.

  • In that case, Midway should have released this game on the N64 and Sony Playstation, don't you think so?

  • Would have been nice and all but Midway had no rights to this game since it was made by atari on atari hardware, Midway had no hand in it at all. This is one of the reasons I love emulation because we can play the lost gems we would not have been able to play otherwise.

  • What emulator did you use for this Game mame?

  • It currently only runs on mame, the game consists of a 242kb rom and a 532mb hard drive image. It was one of the first three games that used hard drives that ran on mame (Area 51 and Maximum Force were the other two).

  • ahh i see thx for the info. :)

  • @gamemaster14neo

I couldn't find a rom that MAME recognized. Where did you downloaded yours?

  • @cheapohater for this game you need the rom itself and the chd file which is an image of the hard drive, if you dont have both the game wont be recognized.

  • yeh fool

  • I never even heard of this, I need to download this and check it out....
